Jul 25, 2025With its scratch groove and percussive shuffle, "Back At The Start" is about as busy as they get, but it's a masterclass in the persuasive power of less is more. .... For the most part, Crown Of Roses succeeds via its concentrated hush, a rootless simmer that suggests the imminent arrival of a full storm. [Sep 2025, p.32]

Jul 25, 2025Tere are precious few singer/songwriters with Patty Griffin's level of craft, empathy, and wisdom, and nearly every album she gives us is a gift. That's absolutely the case with Crown of Roses, and it demands to be heard.

MojoJul 25, 2025Worth the wait. Her voice is on excellent form and her band has its understated arrangements down to an art. [Sep 2025, p.82]

Jul 25, 2025Her obsession with the past, recent losses, and more directly with mortality is overwhelming. If you are feeling down, it’s best to avoid listening. Okay, you have been sufficiently warned. There are, of course, positive aspects too. Her poetry is as rich as ever. She does have a couple of optimistic tunes, and her thought patterns often resemble those 3 AM dreams. Well, maybe that part isn’t so positive, but they are certainly relatable. The album is also somewhat deceptive.
