The juxtaposition of Williams’ words with the bright jangle rock within is what makes the album an enticing listen.

Cotton Crown is a truly rare record. Poetic, poisonous, exhilarating, and somehow, in spite of its dark heart, utterly joyous.

The steps forward on Cotton Crown are subtle but undeniable, with the Tubs' vision growing clearer through these increasingly enjoyable and well-crafted songs.

It's Williams's confessions, delivered with an intensity worthy of Richard Thompson, that make their second album so compelling. [Apr 2025, p.79]

The music mirrors the persuasive charm of the narrator, hooking you in even as the singer boasts they're a bit of a heel. [Mar 2025, p.38]

The Tubs have proven to be an excellent band. They are also pretty predictable. Maybe this is what jangle music has become. However, I would argue that the Tubs can reach a deeper level, showing that they are taking risks and ultimately rewarding listeners who have otherwise enjoyed their music.
