Dark But Just A Game é outra faixa que merece atenção. Lana compôs a maior parte do álbum, exceto a faixa final, For Free, composta originalmente por Joni Mitchell.
Em geral, Chemtrails Over The Country Club é um ótimo álbum.

Overall: 9/10. People are judging this album too quickly, they call it bad in just one listen but after listening to it a couple times, it’s a masterpiece. It gives you that NFR vibes with a hint of Lust for Life and Honeymoon. The songs, lyrics, beat, melody are all emotional and it just gives you that vibe of calmness and brings out your feels.

It's an amazing album. I wish I ain't got a "but", however I do. I might be so wrong, but it feels like the songs have not a great identity. I guess I am saying this because of NFR. Anyway, after listen it for the second time, naturally the songs start to develop a stunning identity and the poetry start to get through you and the lyrics just get attached. Lana is such a talented songwriter.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album is one of Lana's best. It's certainly not as good as NFR, but it surprised me after listening to the singles. White Dress starts out the album very strong and provides a comfortable transition to the title track, I must say I'm not a fan of Tulsa Jesus Freak, but it works relatively well with the flow of the album, but is quite different from all the other songs. Let Me Love You Like a Woman finally sounds good, probably because of its newfound context. Wild at Heart uses instrumentals from songs on NFR, which seemed quite unusual and unnecessary, would've liked to see a continuation of the production of the first part of the song, instead of suddenly feeling like it transformed into How to Disappear, with a melody ripped out of hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have given me a very conflicted feeling, and the song is quite repetitive anyways and comes off as immature because of its way-too-common resolution in the chorus. With Dark But Just a Game, the record seems to turn around, the song itself was my favourite after my first listen through, but it is also quite repetitive a suffers from a cliché resolution in the chorus, just like Wild at Heart. The instrumentation on this song is also quite similar to NFR, but that is ok since the intro is quite unique. Not All Who Wander are Lost is a beautiful completely acoustic retreat, but it retains the same 2nd half feeling set by DBJAG, it's refrain sounds a bit too sharply syncopated for a song like this, but after a repeat listens, it makes more sense. Yosemite is slow, emotional, and brings back some of Lana's old subtle grandiosity which feels slightly out of place, but it works out fine. Breaking up slowly is a very interesting track, the vocals sound completely different from anything I've ever heard from Lana, but no additional artist is listed (at least on Spotify) it's startling when it first starts and seems quite a bit louder than the rest of the record; not much for dynamics. Dance Till We Die is a beautiful song, it amalgamates a melody I feel like I've heard quite a lot with Lana, and although the rhythm is repetitive, the production on this song is delicate and very fitting for the way a listener might be feeling emotionally at this point in the album. Lana's vocals could be slightly more coordinated on this song, however. Oh and the breakdown, the closest thing I've ever heard Lana sound to Fiona Apple, it was pretty surreal. She could've run with it more though, returning to the old style of the song felt slightly disappointing for some reason. Unfortunately my favourite song on the record, Lana's cover of Joni Mitchell's For Free mixes beautiful production with a perfect artist collaboration; ft. Zella Day, Weyes Blood. It is a perfect closer to this pretty solid record. Overall I think Lana did her thing again, she created some amazing songs and some songs that seem a bit out of place. Overall this is a very solid effort, and although it's certainly not one of her best records, it's intimate tone, touching writing, and relatively cohesive and quality production will earn it a spot in my usual rotation. I'd give it an 8.4 if I could, thank you Lana for another enjoyable piece of art :D Expand

Chemtrails Over the Country Club bien podría resumirse en tres palabras: encantador, inteligente y delicado.

Easily enjoyable with a few highlights (White dress, Dark but just a game, Not all who wander are lost). Coming out of Norman F*cking Rockwell, I had a lot of expectations. Not only was NFR the renewal I waited for since Honeymoon (I didn't like Lust For Life more pop-ish influences very much) but it quickly became my favorite album of all time. It accompagnied me in a suicide attempt, a breakup, a recovery and the pandemic.

Whilst NFR sounds like a late-august love letter for Southern California and it's small towns like Topanga, Calabasas and Malibu and everything that goes in the alleys that populate those, Chemtrails over the country club sounds and feel like a journal in the unknown of middle-america, red states and bible belt. Right off the bat, White Dress welcomes you in a violent, heart-wrentching way, Lana's rambling about the time she was 19, carefree, bussing tables at Ruby's. What else can be said about that superb introduction? It surpassed my favorite opener, "Cruel World" (from Ultraviolence, 2014) and is one of Lana's most complex and personnal song along with Mariners Appartment Complex.

Most of the first tunes are really good, although Tulsa Jesus Freak falls under the underwhelming category - with White Mustang (from L4L) and Guns N' Roses (UV) - with autotune embelishements i don't care for. I will say that Lana repeating "White hot forever!' sounds beautiful and haunting. It saves the song.
And this is the problem with Chemtrail's tracklist; they all fall in the "Underwhelming" category up until something saves it. Take "Dance til we die" the song would be an absolute bore if it wasn't for Lana howling to saxophones in a 60's psychedelich transe on the bridge.

Whilst I enjoy most of the tracklist, it just has less replay value. I find myself often in my car going for bops of NFR (F*ck it, I love You, The Greatest, California, etc) rather than coming back to White Dress, Dark but just a game or Yosemite. For me, all of Lana's albums respond to a particular mood: Born To Die/Paradise is nostalgia, Ultraviolence is anger, Honeymoon is resignation, Lust For Life is light-headed joy, NFR is the natural balance between optimism and pessimism (about love, work and the state of the world) and Chemtrails just isn't as defined or clear about what it is trying to get from you. Is it wanderlust? Maybe. Is it Autumn settling in? Maybe. Is it that moment you reflect on the past? Maybe.

We don't know and I'm not sure Lana knows herself. Most of the songs are enjoyable, and it's a very solid EP, but it's hard to follow (rather: impossible!) the near perfect Norman F*cking Rockwell.

"Dark But Just a Game", "Yosemite", "Breaking Up Slowly" and "For Free" are absolute beauties. Elsewhere, the Hope Sandoval/Mazzy Star influence is slowly becoming more and more apparent. "Wild at Heart" sounds like it could have been lifted straight from Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions's 2009 album Through the Devil Softly. It's an absolutely gorgeous song. Save a couple of misses ("Tulsa Jesus Freak" and "Not All Who Wander Are Lost"), this is a beautiful record. Similar to Ultraviolence, only better. Expand

Although Antonoff’s production is repetitive and unnecessary and Lana has clearly stopped concerning herself with what the fans or the critics think, it is through this stripped back style and the more intimate moments this album offers that Lana shows her audience her true self. The lyrics tell us the story of where Lana has been and where she wants to go in a beautifully dialled back folk style, without losing the romantic melodrama of her best work. Expand

Chemtrails Over the Country Club bien podría resumirse en tres palabras: encantador, inteligente y delicado.

It is a nice album, surely keeping the perfect elements of NFR!, but I'd love for it to be more innovative lyrically speaking. But anyway, you can't top NFR! with your next release, that's a fact.

Overall, across all of Lana’s album, I wouldn’t say that this one is the standout album I once thought it was.The only main tracks that I personally find to the most replayable are “It’s Dark But Just a Game” and “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”. The rest are too quiet. Quiet songs are fine in general, but they need to pack a punch lyrically in order to grab a listeners attention.Overall, across all of Lana’s album, I wouldn’t say that this one is the standout album I once thought it was.The only main tracks that I personally find to the most replayable are “It’s Dark But Just a Game” and “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”. After all of these months, I find the album too sleepy, but I do come back to it every now and then. I do love and miss Lana’s dramatic but more upbeat (for her) songs on “Born to Die”. I just think that music is so memorable and would help her build marketability with new listeners.

If you are a Lana fan then this record is a God-send, but to a less partisan listener, it's not much more than a collection of decent pop music that dawdle about similar themes and don't offer much in terms of creativity.

Featuring a title track that made rapidly its place amongst Lana Del Rey's greatest songs, you would imagine the rest of Chemtrails Over the Country Club to be as hauntingly beautiful. Unfortunately, it's the opposite. On her 7th album and massively awaited opus to Norman **** Rockwell!, a new staple in modern music, Lana searches herself by surrounding her melodies with acoustics instruments and an overall yee-haw atmosphere. The problem is that by the last few songs, it's clear she failed to achieve the same charm. Most of the tracks are lacking depth, and gives us an unpleasant taste in the mouth when reaching the finale. Expand

It’s hard to resist the sensory impact of these songs. Chemtrails picks up the nostalgic thread of 2019’s Norman Fucking Rockwell!, though here she’s mostly Midwest and more melodic. [Jun 2021, p.25]

“Tulsa Jesus Freak” is arguably closest to the Lana Del Rey longtime fans know and love, and it’s no surprise that it was written in 2019, around the time NFR! came out. “Yosemite” is another highlight, a stunning number with Del Rey’s vocals at their best. But most songs on Chemtrails don’t stand out. They blend together in their delicateness.
