Masterpiece of the rap genre and a must listen definitely. Latin influences and versatility in general were spot on.

This album is beyond excellent. She combines rap and house together. This is impossible to do. Good album.

She's so talented and this album is a good evidence of her talent, the sound of these is a nice collage for modern rap.

Most versatile release from a female rapper to date, the album has a very experimental vibe as no track is the same. Banks lyricism is incredible, not only that her vocals are on point with Chasing Time, a two in one package.

LOVEEEEEEE. Azealia is a genius. She can rap, sing, and has some of the best beats in her music. Her voice also adds a lot onto this. The songs here constantly stuck in my head. Please listen to this because you will NOT regret it at all.

The album is truly story-telling. Azealia stands out for embracing considered “broke” musical elements and transforming them into memorable work, which ends up leaving an “expensive taste” in our mouths. The only problem is that the execution in some tracks lacks some sort of deepness, required to tell such impacting reflections.

I do enjoy her music and picks in different beats. She flows and switches genres so easily she shows off her versatility as a rapper and singer very well. Giving it a 9 because there were a few tracks I didn't like at first and needed some warming up to with a couple of listens. Favorite tracks: Idle Delilah, BBD, Desperado, and Ice Princess.

Expand

People underastimate Azealia beacause of what she says on Twitter. Broke With Expensive Taste is the proof that not everyone on the rap industry is changing to pop music(like Drake and Minaj). This album definetly is 2014'ss biggest albuns, for it's quality, and for it's impact on rap music.

Although Azealia is mainly known for being the problematic **** from Twitter, she actually does make great music - regardless of personality. The only song I really do not like is Nude Beach A Go-Go, it's awful in my opinion. However, the rest of the album is absolutely brilliant. It really is a great album

Broke With Expensive Taste é o único álbum de rap que eu consegui gostar. Sério, eu detesto rap, mas esse álbum tem músicas ótimas. Mesmo com muito câncer auditivo (muito mesmo), certas músicas tem seu destaque.

Pontos Altos: Soda, Chasing Time, Yung Rapunxel
    Pontos Baixos: JKF, Desperado, BBD

The sixteen track record, far from just worth the wait, is an audacious fusion of lively house and dance beats, that paired with Banks’ phenomenal vocals make this one of the hottest releases of 2014.

This album has clearly been a labour of love for Azealia Banks: she’s postponed, edited and re-edited (dropping questionable tracks like ‘ATM Jam’) and refused to compromise creatively, demanding to be released from a major record deal so she could make the album she envisioned. This serious artistic approach is reflected in the high quality and ballsy individuality of the record, which unlike most of the year’s releases refuses to blend into the charts.

There is something bewitching about Banks’ flow; her confident enunciation and the smoky character filled timbre of her voice set her sound apart. The daring lyrical content is sexually aggressive yet not coquettish, unapologetically glamorous and playful, yet critical of media superficiality, and frankly far more sincere than most popular hip hop. Banks is a skilled lyricist and it’s worth re-listening to some of her tracks to pick up the humour and political messages that often go missed on first listening.

    Azealia banks

The albums melodies and beats are mainly inspired by British dance, dn’b and house music, which gives the album a refreshingly upbeat and energetic feel without the griminess of the current trend of dubstep inspired electro. The highlights of the album are the tracks where Banks lets her soulful singing voice as well as her incredible rapping skills shine, like in the brutally funky ‘Ice Princess’ and the housey ‘Soda’. While, more experimental tracks like the synth-heavy ‘Heavy, Metal and Reflective’ or stripped down calypso style beat and wavering guitar of ‘Idle Delilah’, offer inventive reinterpretations of genres laced with razor sharp rap. The only disappointing track is ‘Yung Rapunxel’, which sounds cluttered and disjointed compared to the stylised harmonies of the rest of the album.

Broke With Expensive Tastes is a much needed injection of fun and funk in what has been a dull year for hip hop and dance music. Azealia Banks brings fresh wit, intelligence and personality into what has become a complacent and repetitive genre and it will be interesting to see which direction she goes in next.

Broke With Expensive Taste is without a doubt the best album of 2014. First of all I would like to praise the production work. I'ts amazing how the album go from hip-hop, salsa, jazz and many more. Banks and the writers did a great job with the lyrics. I respect her for not rapping n-gga or f-ck every 2 lines. And DAMN that girl can sing too ! Amazing Album !

BWET is a fascinating starting point, as she can spit complex rhyme patterns with ease. The hope is that this can progress into something deeper, but as things stand she's still a pleasure to listen to.
