This is how you enjoy music without even knowing the meaning of the korean lyrics, proving how they be producing good musics and literally no skip songs on this album. Lovesick Girls is their best song. It’s pure perfection. I don't know why some people don't like Ice Cream...that is one of the my favourite song in this album.

The first single from the album, ‘How You Like That’, serves as a loud and energetic intro to their first full body of work, appropriately titled ‘THE ALBUM’. The second single from theThe first single from the album, ‘How You Like That’, serves as a loud and energetic intro to their first full body of work, appropriately titled ‘THE ALBUM’. The hip-hop fused EDM track refuses to show any shocking abilities that the group members possess, instead choosing to allow listeners to dance and not care about lyrics or any hard-to-sing high notes. The second single from the album, ‘Ice Cream’, includes appearances throughout the song from American singer Selena Gomez, who is used as nothing but buzz to help the song perform better in western music markets. The group could have performed this song without her, however she certainly is necessary to the song and it’s success, as it explains why the song is such a drastic change in comparison to BLACKPINK’s previous recent singles. The actual song itself doesn’t appear to be that bad, being a basic pop song that many western music markets would enjoy.

The third song (and promotional single?) from the album is the upbeat ‘Pretty Savage’, which showcases the groups’ abilities with melodic rapping, and to use a lot of curse words. Despite this, the song is actually good, however it seems to be what was going to be the third single from the album, before the group received complaints from some fans claiming that this sound was not what they wanted anymore.

The fourth song, ‘Bet You Wanna’, contains an absolutely necessary feature from Cardi B, as she ensures that the song will not become lost and forgotten by the general public. Her verse also adds to the song, which would have been boring without her addition. However, to have a song featuring the popular American rapper Cardi B, it would be common sense to make it a single to promote your group. However, the people behind BLACKPINK were too stupid to even see how this could help promote them in western music markets, further adding to their success.

The third single from the album, ‘Lovesick Girls’, is an extreme drastic change from the group’s previous releases. The electropop and EDM single evokes a nostalgic feeling from 2010s pop music, likely due to David Guetta’s involvement in the production, and earns Jisoo and Jennie their first writing credits, and Jennie her first composition credit. The song is, by far, the best song that appears on the album, and adds credibility to the group’s versatility within their singles.

The sixth song from the album, ‘Crazy Over You’, is the second full English-language song. The song takes inspirations from hip-hop, trap, and uses Arab instrumentation, which is usual for the group to delve into different cultures. The song features strange onomatopoeia and interesting flow and rhythmic choices in the rap sections, overall leaving the listener questioning if the group’s condition has worsened for their first album.

The seventh song, ‘Love To Hate Me’, is the third full English-language song from the album, which is a bass heavy dance-pop song, where the lyrics focus on clapping back at haters of the group. The group don’t do a very good job of this, but the result was a good song so the lyrics don’t matter too much, which is something shown in all BLACKPINK songs. The song finished with a rap verse done by rapper/dancer Lisa, who’s inspirations clearly lie within African-American culture, specifically with the use of AAVE. However, this makes you question whether this is genuine inspiration, or a mock of where this style of music and word delivery originated. The final song from the album, ‘You Never Know’, is a ballad the provides the same purpose as the song that appears before it, but at least vocalist Jisoo finally gets a chance to show off her own vocal abilities.

Overall, ‘THE ALBUM’ seems like a rushed piece of work that the producers knew they could release due to fans of the group waiting so long for new content. However, maybe it would’ve been in their best interests if they just released another EP. The reason why I rate the album so high is solely because of the third single, ‘Lovesick Girls’, which is an extreme improvement for the group, and is, in my opinion, one of the best songs released by an artist in 2020. The title also seems like a laugh in the faces of fans who waited so long, coining the phrase “where is the album?” which has now because the actual albums’ title. However, as appropriately titled it may be, it doesn’t actually appear correct as this 8-track project appears to be just an extended EP, instead of a full body of work.

Such a good album, the only problem actually is the number of songs, all of them show blackpink charisma we all know and the ballad "you never know" is a comfort song with touchful lyrics that amazes us all.

With engaging songs and incredible production, this is one of the most high-quality sounding k-pop albums out there. Each track is special in its own way and it definitely leaves you wanting for more since it’s only 8 tracks.

Never in my life have expected such artistry from Blackpink at this moment, knowing that this is their first ever full album, although, with the lack of number of tracks, this album shows another side of Blackpink that truly proves they're not just a "Girl-crush" type-of-concept Girl group, Definitely 10s across the board for me!

I'm not a fan of this group, but I try to listen to their new album. This album is sophisticated and cute. This album is fun to listen to, but some are not.

Crammed chockfull of crowd-pleasing EDM pyrotechnics and cheeky one-liners, The Album is undeniably a product of a well-oiled, state-of-the-art pop machine, but it feels stuck looking back to tried and true trends in both K-pop and Western pop music.
