Fruit Bats does it again. Another great album that plays like a true album should. If you like any of their old stuff than this album will not disappoint.

Don't expect anything more earth-shattering than pleasantly folky indie-pop with a mild rootsy lilt. If that's your bag, though, don't lose out on this one. [No. 131, p.55]

Absolute Loser isn’t an experimental, mind-blowing fusion of genres. It doesn’t veer away from Fruit Bats signature sound. Instead, it serves to remind us that Fruit Bats have grown their sound, cultivated it, broken it, and rebuilt it, yet the core remains the same.

If the songs aren’t great at every turn here, they’re still very good, making this a solid record for long-time fans happy to see the band back, and a good set for drawing in new fans.
