Bluntly, this is one of the most original albums of the year. It represents Loathe at their most unique, a swirling, shifting composite of influences from wider realms and time periods than most modern metal dares to tread.
  2. 90
It more than justifies the wait and confirms Loathe’s position as heralds of the savage and eclectic cutting-edge of contemporary heavy music.

A Stranger To You is easily Loathe’s most accomplished effort to date: the musicianship and subtle use of harmonies, brazen guitar attacks and strenuous rhythm sections are often breathtaking and dripping with originality.

In lesser hands this album could have been a ragbag, but the band’s bold vision is so masterfully executed it makes for a thrilling ride, in which you never expect what’s coming next.

A Stranger to You proves that Loathe have the chops and genre-fluency necessary to usurp the legacy acts that cannily tap them as tourmates, but its juggling-act execution also reveals the pitfalls of omnivorous ambition.
