    Beautifully harrowing music. A trove of demos, alternative takes, live cuts and liner notes, but the main draw are the Fundamentals, half-hour studio experiments that contain Tweedy's first stabs at so many familiar tunes. [Feb 2025, p.55]

    Although Tweedy has repeatedly campaigned against the “myth” of the tortured artist, anyone looking to make a counter-argument need only point to A Ghost Is Born for proof—an argument only further bolstered by this exhaustive reissue. That most of the extras here gel into a cohesive listen is a hell of a triumph. That they entice enough for repeat listens is nothing short of a miracle.

    Exhaustive and impressively curated. .... The "fundamentals" are a bit like Get Back without the laughs, exras surely reserved for the fanatics. Patience may lead to moments of revelation for intrepid listeners, though on the whole, these experiments demystify the process of songwriting itself. [Feb 2025, p.95]
