The longest song in the album "Inamorata" is slower than the other but it sounds amazing and for sure makes an impression from the first listen.

We should all accept the fact that Metallica is an old band and we can't expect the same as the 80s, but even with that we should appreciate what they are releasing, because they still sound good and James' vocals sound even better.

Also the songs in 72 seasons are still as long as their previous releases which is awesome!

I don't know how people can give this album 8-9-10 score. Are you didn't listen to a real 10 albums? Are you really sure that this is equal to Master of Puppets or Paranoid or Painkiller or Number of the Beast? Seriously?

Very boring and mediocre riffs, a lot of repetitiveness, no hits, all songs sound the same, absolutely horrible solos, bass drum sound (Metallica disease for last 20 years). Oh, also unreasonably long songs. They should listen to "Believer" by Ozzy for example. Great song structure, not a one riff repeat for one minute 5 times = song.

Previous album wasn't their best, but at least you can hear difference when songs change. One "Halo on Fire" is better than this whole album.

Overall - 3/10. Boredom, laziness, degradation, compositional weakness and impotence of the once great group. As a long time fan - their worst album in career.

Huge respect for James anyway. He is still in great musician shape

Admittedly, that song is really fantastic and one of my new favorite Metallica songs. However, the entire rest of the album is either boring or painfully average. A lot of the riffs and hooks on the songs just don't work. And, the album is way too long. I actually don't have a problem with the final track being how long it is, but the rest of the album is just boring all the way through. Despite all this though, the album is clearly important, and is still leagues above Metallica's worst. I didn't enjoy listening to this album, but I could understand why other people would love it. Not a must listen for sure, but if you think you'd like it, give it a try. Expand

I really liked this album, even if it doesn´t sound as good as we know metallica can be, after all of those years of career i think that´s a really great record with awesome songs and reminds of past metallica moments, makes us feel relieved that it is good

For my first time paying a deep and complete attention to Metallica, they become something tiring to hear very quickly on this album. They still have some tricks under the cords, and each one of the songs have a space and time that is worth to hold on to. This is not something one can come back easily, not even them with 5 + years in between their latest albums, but I do feel Metallica deserves to be something we should be holding strong just as much as they keep pushing the boundaries of their creativity and energy. Long live Metallica, hell yeah. Expand

This is why 72 Seasons is here: to bring us there, in the future, giving the chance to gaze everything differently. Same topics, from a new perspectives resembles different observers. From the bottom of my soul, thanks.

I would argue this is the best material they have brought out since Jason left the band. It is a mix of some earlier sounds for sure (with Kill em All, Load, ReLoad, and maybe even a bit of The Black Album mixed in) but has a feel of its own at the same time.

Overall a great album, with some great bass included in the mix for once.

New Metallica album is always good news. They are enjoying themselves, putting out songs that sound exactly good as their first albums, the difference is just in modern mixing and mastering. Really good album, the more you listen to it, the more you like it. Anyways.. It is still better than if Metallica quit and stopped making music for millions of people that are in love with them :)

This is a solid Metallica album, no more and no less. There's nothing particularly new here but I'm not sure what people would expect from 4 guys that are almost 60 and are 40 years into their career. I'm just happy that they're still out there and still putting out solid records for people to enjoy.

Dishonorable mentions include "Sleepwalk My Life Away" for starting off promising then jumping off a cliff 90 seconds in, "Lux Aeterna" for trying its best to be a Judas Priest song (but not nearly as good) and "If Darkness Had a Son" because Lars' kick drum sounds straight like FL Studios' stock kick drum sound.

A great Metallica record! Not the most innovative, but there are some really strong riffs, the production is good and James' vocals and lyrics are fantastic! It's like a weird mix of Kill'em All and Load/Reload. Inamorata is my favorite track!

Yes it’s new Metallica, and that’s exciting. But newness aside, it’s a C+ album. Some good riffs here and there but too many songs where they just chugga-chugga for a minute or two sounding like they aren’t really sure where to go next, play the chorus, chugga some more, chorus, chugga, chorus, end. It’s a long listen.

Problem : riffs are not that good and lacks of soul.

For all Hetfield’s soul-baring, however, as a whole 72 Seasons seems to mark the end of their late-career renaissance and is ultimately far more solid than spectacular.
