Troll has a blockbuster polish without the Hollywood heaviness. The story’s nothing special; but the action is spry, the characters are likable and the emphasis on Scandinavian folklore keeps Troll from becoming just another generic “Godzilla”/“Jurassic Park” riff. Read full review

Since a creature feature lives and dies by its monster, Troll has the clear advantage of conjuring a magnificent beast from Scandinavian folklore. Of course, that might not be enough for viewers looking for something fresh to watch. Even so, Uthaug ultimately succeeds in developing a movie that’ll most likely please fans of giant creatures. I just watched it on Netflix and I have to say it was pretty good. Nora is such a good actress but what I loved about this is that fairy tales so come true if you believe. norwegian directors are improving their capabilities much more than Hollywood colleagues. one clear example is Roar Uthaug , a relatively young fellow that has in his backpack some very, very interesting movies

No, I just couldn't feel it. There's a brutal imbalance between where the film wants to be funny and where it takes itself too seriously.
There's not much science to it, you either choose one way or you choose the other. Troll chooses poorly and the mix doesn't come out the way I think itNo, I just couldn't feel it. There's a brutal imbalance between where the film wants to be funny and where it takes itself too seriously.

Visually it doesn't look cheap and that's a plus but as entertainment, everyone will have to ponder whether its weak proposal is enough to pass the time or will demand more.

I give it about 10 days of life on Netflix before it falls into total oblivion.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Medioce movie all in all. Great special effects, great locations, I like the overall mood and cinematography. However, the movie is to short, characters are introduced in a bad way, so I don't really care about them. Can't even remember the names. This flick is also full of plot holes and sterotypes e.g. "normal weapons don't work, lets test our super secret brand new wonder rocket our government knows nothing about and destroy our capitol with it".… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the film, the effects were really solid throughout. There are two unanswered questions that I find myself puzzling over.
This is were the spoilers are:
1. If the trolls are made from earth and stone, why do they have a bone skeleton... as seen in the Royal Palace caves? 2. How did they kill the historical tribe of trolls, as the troll that we see in the movie seems impervious to all kinetic or ballistic weapons? If they used mirrors to reflect sunlight into the cave were did the head wounds come from and why didnt the troll at the end of the film not crumble to reveal a skeleton. These may seem trivial but the mythos of trolls demonstrated a strong historical reference material, alluded to in the note book revealing the trolls in sunlight page of aged manuscript.… Expand
