Sure the Transformers part are more exciting than the human parts and that's exactly the type of movie Transformers was, a type of movie where people are watching it because they just wanna see a bunch of giant robots punching and shooting each other, and if that's the case for a film critic at in the end i'm pretty sure they will give the film a negative, well in this case, the humans are actually for me are likeable and convincing enough to make both side almost perfectly equal and stable, i like Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in here, their love relationship was a whatever for me not that it's anything bad but it just whatever, i like them more as a partner not a couple, and the rest of the cast was also great, the humans sort of bad guy of the film played by John Turturro was incredible, and of course the Autobots, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and the rest was cool, Transformers human story and characters are likeable and convincing enough to make me still care about them and it works fine, the whole Transformers part are super well executed with great visual effect, incredible cinematography, lot's of explosion, exciting, and super solid final battle even though how they end Megatron was kinda underwhelming for me, nit picky here and there, but pretty good soundtrack, so overall Transformers is still a solid movie and i will see what comes next.

Yes this is a CGI filled movie but it works surprisingly well. First the cast Mr Bay likes to have hot girls in his movies so who does he cast Megan Fox, she does a job and Shia Le what ever his name is he’s ok. But the movie is great when the Autobots are on the screen. I love the action scenes Prime and Bumblebee are the best characters in this movie they are both badasses. Its cool to see how much the military changes through each movie from hating the Transformers to working with them, honestly when you think about it Michael Bay actually does use practical effects for his explosions which I can respect. Overall it’s a great start to a franchise which I have grown up with and the movies just get more and more crazy as they go on, watch it if it’s for the first time or a rewatch it’s on Hulu. Expand

It was very humorous (on purpose) throughout, and the storyline keeps with the fun of the original series. While the battle sequences are deadly serious, the characters are all part of the fun storyline and no one takes themselves too seriously in this movie. I would recommend for fun, sit-back-and-enjoy-the-fireworks summer fare. Huge plus if you are old enough to remember the original series, as the characters are all fleshed out perfectly. Relax everyone...the movie wasn't written to earn an Oscar. It's just fun and very cool. Expand

I pretty much agree with everyone who gave this movie a 7. The people that were upset about the plot and basic storyline need to realize thats not the point of the movie. its a summer action flick. and i had fun (unlike watching spiderman 3).

This is a thrill ride more than a movie. Great CGI and action. Some good acting mixed with some cheesy Independence Day-like nutty characters. Shia's character got annoying after a while with his fast talk and super hip-not so cool kid-being cool. These are the kids that run high schools, they aren't the ones hiding in the background!! Megan Fox is beautiful but doesn't do a whole lot other than being an object of super tanned lust. Michael Bay needs to lay off the slow motion, with military horn music...every movie he does this-knock it off, it's cheese. Josh Duhamel and Tyrese are the only two that keep this movie somewhat realistic, they did a good job. Rachael Taylor does an ok job until things get silly with her character. The transformers themselves are cool and the new looks are better than the look from the 80'sl. The decepticons to me were much better looking. The CGI is amazing. Optimus Prime's voice is as cool as ever. The fights are full of action. Overall Michael Bay proves to me that he still can't create real humans, but is great at creating simple macho action. Good movie but forgettable characters except for the transformers themselves. Expand

They are so obvious in their intentions to traffic in the gut emotions of an audience not used to thinking very critically about what they are watching. This film, like most of Michael Bay's films, is a gussied up military recruitment ad, the kind where all of the soldiers in it are muscled and oily, and where they do a lot of walking toward the camera in emphatic slow motion. There are girls in the film (two of them, to be exact), but they're basically just guys with breasts and nice legs. The government is to be feared and distrusted, because they keep secrets from the American people (like the fact that the Hoover Dam was really built as a facade to hide alien robots and their belongings), while the military is heroic and manly. To make itself feel relevant, the film even throws in some action scenes set in the Middle East. It was refreshing, though, that for once all of the chest-thumping is not reserved solely for the United States, but rather for the human race in general. The message in "Transformers," other than that geeky teenagers have the stuff soldiers are made of, is that the human race isn't so bad after all, even if we have a lot to learn. Expand

Bay certainly has an eye for the spectacular and epic, with Transformers being no different, we open with a brief introduction from a booming robotic voice telling us about the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, an ancient alien race from the planet Cybertron who bring their battle to earth in search of the AllSpark, a powerful cube holding vast amounts of energy capable of massive amounts of power and of course, destruction.
Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is the unlucky human caught in the midst of this war, as his grandfather made the discovery of these robots many years before, Sam now hold a pivotal piece to the puzzle which is needed by the Transformers. But this young teen has his own troubles, something we are seemingly forced to care about, a teen drama involving Sam getting the girl, in this case, a beautiful girl called Michaela (Megan Fox), who doesn't have to do very much onscreen except move her body to certain angles so as she can be filmed in certain ways, its wasteful but I suppose necessary, because every film needs the good looking girl, right? This drama along with an over-arching military thread of a story certainly leaves very little room for the Transformers, who become a side note, even though the film is almost 150 mins long. But in terms of spectacle, it doesn't get much bigger than this, the way these robots transforms from vehicle to natural form looks amazing as these aliens tear each other apart in the air and on the ground, special effects don't get much better than these, as the realism of these machines unmatched.
There are certainly many things to like about 'Transformers', we have spectacular set-pieces and some heavy lifting robots there to entertain us, but these robots also feel very underused, while the human element starts off light-hearted but becomes serious which in turn is just ludicrous. Even though there is comic relief to be found in John Turturro as a dedicated agent and a small role for the late great Bernie Mac, Transformers has an unlikeable and far too talkative lead in Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky, more focus should definitely been put on the aliens.

I guess this one's good. Entertaining in a very Michael Bay-ish way, but still fairly solid in its own right. The action was good, the effects were great, and the humor wasn't all too bad either.

However, I think that if 'The Rock' didn't exist, this film would be a 9 or even a 10. But it gets an average 7 and here's why.

'Transformers' follows the story of a young, high school boy named Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) who gets caught in an incident when a group of autobots want his grandfather's glasses that contain some secret piece of information.

The lead autobot is Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) who wants Sam's help to retrieve theses glasses and keep it away from the evil Decepiticons. Sam has a car that is also a transformer who is called "Bumblebee", and can only communicate with Sam via radio stations.

Megan Fox plays Mikaela, Sam's love interest, who sticks around because the screenplay says so. While convincing acting can be tough to come from Fox, these two actors do have very good chemistry together and they seem convincing as a couple. Why she sticks around during all this robot rumble though can be a little hard to believe.

The film's biggest weakness however, is the comedy. We've seen elements of comedy in past action movies, but they were always subtle and the director's of those films didn't rely on funny one-liners or ironic incidents to keep their movies at an entertaining pace.

Another weakness is the run-time, while 'Transformers' isn't the most difficult movie to sit through with all the robot destruction and explosive action, the run time can make it feel like you're sitting through an extended edition of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003). The film goes on for half an hour too long, and you know it's a problem when you stop caring for the characters after having seen what they've gone through in the first two hours.

Michael Bay is a very ambitious director, famous for not being so respected with film critics and typical movie-goers, but here, he has demonstrated that maybe he can direct an action film, a "Transformers" film at that.

I never grew up with the Hasbro Transformers toys as a child, I was more of a Lego kid. Maybe my opinion on this film may not count, but, you either judge this as a film based on toys, or you judge it as an action film in general...I think action fans will get what they deserve, but overall, there has been better.

When I saw Transformers, I will admit I wasn't expecting much. And you know what I thought it was a good movie. It is far from the best movie ever made, but it is well worth watching for a number of reasons.

The best thing about the movie was the visual/special effects. They were absolutely mind-blowing, and the whole movie is worth the look just for them alone. And the robots especially Megatron were convincing enough, and the movements weren't jerky in any way. The sound is absolutely terrific, and the music is great. The storyline is original, fast-paced and gripping on the most part. There is some nice humour thrown into the mix, however the dialogue for me was a little too cheesy in places.

The performances are spirited and bring a sense of fun to the proceedings. Shia LeBoeuf brings some charisma and appeal to the title role of Sam, and Megan Fox is hot. John Tuturro has fun in his role, and Kevin Dunn and Julie White are both hilarious as Sam's parents. Hugo Weaving is superb as Megatron, and Peter Cullen makes the most of his character Optimus Prime. In fact, the only weak performance came from the talented Jon Voight, he just seemed out of place. And while there are plenty of visual thrills, I wasn't a massive fan of Michael Bay's direction, it just seemed as though the visuals, story and performances were doing the work and Bay was just there making sure it was all going to plan.

Overall, it is flawed but Transformers while not the best or worst of its genre is worth the look, especially if you are looking for terrific visuals, great sound and a good story. That way, if you overlook the flaws it does indeed have, you are in for a treat. 7/10 Bethany Cox

But what I liked about the movie was that the action is great. Peter cullun as optimus is still a triumph. The humor is sometimes funny. The autobot and decepicon design are a 10 out of 10. Optimus looks badass as a semi truck with flames. Bumblebee looks cool as a camaro, and the others all got great designs. Overall, it's a movie I enjoyed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: -Really good action scenes.
-The actors are doing a pretty solid job.
-The human characters, while a bit generic, are likable enough.
-Decent score.

Cons:
-The human characters, while likable enough, are still kinda generic. I honestly wasn’t expecting them to be super deep since this is Michael Bay, who is notorious for making style over substance films, but that still doesn’t excuse it. -Not all of the attempts at humor land.
-Certain things in the ending, such as the Allspark killing Megatron and Bumblebee getting his voice back out of nowhere, could have been explained better.

Final verdict: Transformers 1 is a pretty decent sci-fi action thriller that is easily still the second best Transformers movie (based on what I have heard, I have not seen any of the other Transformers movies aside from Bumblebee) and I would say that if you are interested it is worth checking out. However if you want a REALLY good Transformers movie, I’d still say go watch Bumblebee before this.

Some scenes I understand, but some scenes not. One thing I felt happy with this movie is, it’s predictable because I knew much about the action movies which are always happy at the end. The product placement and advertising was so in your face all the time that it became a nuissance. Obviously the worst element of this was that they changed the all the Autobots to GM vehicles. Why couldn't they have the characters match the toys? Changing the main characters according to the whims of an advertiser isn't artistic license, it's a sell-out. Very disappointing. I liked the mechanics of the transforming, but many actions scenes were so fast it was difficult to see what was going on. I wish they had slowed it down just a little. Of course the other problems are the "Michael Bay Moments": The scene at the house looking for the glasses - should've been cut. The bit at the start looking for the credit card to call the Pentagon long distance - funny at first, but they took it too far. The "I'm really glad I got into the car with you" tripe... Here's comes Pearl Harbour again! Does Michael Bar really want Matt Stone and Trey Parker writing a song about this movie?!! I played with Transformers as a kid, but I'm probably not the level of fan that would give this movie a rating above even a forgiving 7/10. But for someone who loves Transformers so much, and waited so long for this movie, they might be more forgiving. I think they could have done better. Especially with another director. Too bad Ridley Scott couldn't have taken a crack at this one! Expand

Everything else is as bad as it gets. Michael Bay can hardly work with actors and what worked because of the fresh charisma of Will Smith in Bad Boys and Liv Tyler's beauty in Armageddon is not working here, with the two expressions of Shia LaBeouf and the Body named Megan Fox. Charachters are ridiculous, plot is unbelievable (in a bad way), and even the Kodak-moments isn't working as well as it used to back in 1998. Two especially regretable moments are 1. Josh Duhamel returns from a calm walk in the desert to see his wife and kid waiting on the screen of the nearest computer. Wonder what will happen with this plot line? 2. Megan Fox is into cars. But only when she wears hotpants. The shot of her checking BumbleBee's Engine was so lame and cheap, it made me shift in my seat and thinking if this is all a veteran director can do, no wonder we're still having 70's remakes. But hell, the special effects are GOOD! If you have spare money and time, Transformers is not a bad choice. if you have enough money for one movie, there are better ones out there this summer. Expand

This movie had so much potential, but sadly it didn't live up to it. The problem is that it was a typical Michael Bay film. The problem is that it was a typical Michael Bay film. A Michael Bay film = loud explosions + flashy editing + beautiful people + lots and lots of slow-motion shots (mostly of people turning their heads. That is so 90's!) + incessant music throughout + constant product placement + lots of cheesy scenes + fake sentimentality, then take away a decent plot and story, character development, and credibility and substance. There were times when I thought I was watching Bad Boys II and Pearl Harbor, and I don't mean that in a good way. Transformers could've, and should've, been a lot better, but it sadly wasn't. In saying that, it wasn't bad solely as an action movie, but I don't think I'll be watching it again a second time. Expand

this movie wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. Mike Bay could have done more back story but all in all it was pretty good. The effects were awesome and the plot was 10 times better than the lack of a plot in spiderman this movie wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. Optimus Prime was pretty dull but Megatron was good and the other transformer were pretty good too. The action scenes were well made and the editing was good so i didn't feel like i missed anything. However i didn't care for the humans, the humour was pretty lame and the story was not very interesting. But despite it's shortcomings, the movie is still fun and entertaining enough to sit through at least once. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the title may suggest this movie is about "Transformers", those robot aliens play second fiddle to the humans in this flick. The leader of a protagonistic group called the Autobots, Optimus Prime, doesn't even appear until almost halfway through. Although this adaptation isn't as innovative as the animated television program it still packs a punch and it somewhat entertaining. Ultimately, if you love your CGI more than a decent storyline or character development please feel free to check out this otherwise decent feature film. Expand

Transformers is an entertaining film with epic action, breathtaking visual effects and some humor as well, but sadly the film suffers from bad performances and a cheesy story. I give this movie 61%.

If you're 10 years old, this is perhaps the best movie in the world, and that is because of the masterful CG that Michael Bay has helped direct and develop. If you're older than that however, there are a few problems. The dialogue as a wholeIf you're 10 years old, this is perhaps the best movie in the world, and that is because of the masterful CG that Michael Bay has helped direct and develop. If you're older than that however, there are a few problems. The dialogue as a whole is very cheesy, to the point of being comedic in some scenes and the fact that the robots have different human accents is ridiculous. The casting of Megan Fox may have been cost effective and commercially viable, but if the goal of this film was to be admired and respected, someone more accomplished and with an actual ability to act would have been chosen. Her character is very boring, and could have easily been more substantial had Michael Bay wanted it to be, but again, her lack of acting ability is probably what caused the character to be so insignificant and frankly, a waste of the audience's time (unless of course, you are 10 years old). Shia LeBoeuf's performance makes up for others that fall flat like Megan Fox's and Jon Voight's and his casting was certainly the right choice. The story is fine for what it tries to achieve but nothing other than the amazing visuals and sound make this movie worth watching. That said, there will be many Transformers fans who will appreciate this movie more than the rest of us... Expand
