The story of Transformers starts to decrease and humor levels are getting lower. The actions scenes make up for the depth lacking story.

Having said that, I don't think it is that great either. Easily the best thing about this movie are the action sequences; the opening scene in Shanghai, the forest battle and the throwdown in Egypt (for the most part) save this movie from being a total fail. But, the story is at best the second-worst in the franchise (maybe the Last Knight is worse). Plus, this movie is unnecessarily sexual, and John Turturro's cheeks... just why, Bay? Yeah, this is a mediocre movie with some phenomenal action. Expand

First off, this film is very VERY racist in so many parts. Also there are so many sex euphemisms that I'm surprised it never received an R or even an X rating. The plot, oh wow, did someone never even study up on Transformers lore for this, has to do with The Matrix and blowing up the sun... what? This was the last Transformers movie I ever went to see, predicting that others would follow the same formula. That's right, after the first one they all just follow the same plot structure and don't do anything different. Expand

I really liked the first movie so there was no way I could believe that THIS franchise could possibly be bad (although I did see that later on, I didn't see it here). In my review of the first movie I said how I got interested in the Transformers franchise after watching it, since I didn't know this was actually a toys company and not an anime series. If that movie was just the introduction, this was where the real action takes place.
I saw Revenge of the Fallen on Amazon Prime soon after the first one. I only had one week left before my Prime subscription would expire, so I had only decided to dedicate this time to watching all the Transformers movies so that I could understand what this franchise is all about. Unlike the future movie this one actually expanded on what was established at the first movie. Although the human characters were not as interesting as the previous movie and the story was also pretty much empty, the action scenes completely made up for it.
As usual the CGI and action was very good. The new characters introduced were fun to watch. I really like to see it when new characters are brought in and given their own character development as they transform into cool cars. However not everything about this movie was good. Like I said above the human characters were not as interesting. The entire blood about Sam going to college and his parents continuously pestering him was very annoying. This was the last time we got to see Mikaela, which is also something very sad IYKWIM.
This movie was able to explain very well the entire concept of Transformers, something that the prequel fail to do so. Before I used to think that Autobots and Decepticons are supposed to be cars, but now I know that they are actually robots which can turn themselves into whatever they see in front of them. I would definitely give a rewatch afterwards sometime in the future whenever I have to show this franchise to a new generation.

This film is slightly messy, but only if you don't pay attention. The movie isn't finished yet, and you can tell; there are some funny awkward jokes strewn around, and there are a few minor narrative holes here and there, but I can see where they're heading, and I LOVE it. The plot is very interesting to explore, including the history of Transformers and the lasting effects of that legacy that transcends time. Also you will not find better action in any other film than in this one; the action is nonstop and visually appealing and it will keep you at the edge of your seat. All in all, my childhood favorite and an actually enjoyable watch. Expand

The first one was way better. This one made me a little sick to my stomach. I like Shia but can he please make a better film. Michael Bay has to stop focusing his camera on Fox's rack. We all now that, he's not fooling anyone. We all saw.

Thoroughly mediocre, especially in view of how good the first was. Badly visualised, badly editted, poorly written. Transformers broke the Michael Bay mold, Revenge of The Fallen gets right back into it.

The movie jumped around too much in the beginning, the comedy protions lasted too long, and parts of the movie were there for no reason. They cursed just to curse, no rhyme or reason behind it, purely for cheep laughs. Slow mo running like baywatch in a childs movie, not that its the worse thing in the world, but simply misplaced. The first two minutes of comedy is great and truly funny, but then it lasts another eight annoying minutes which completely overshadows the first two. They spend way too much time trying to make people laugh, and not enough perfecting the storyline. the plot is well done, but out of no where they jump from autobots to predacons to humans with terrible transitions. The movie is terrible until u get to the point where megatron fights prime, if u can watch from that point and skip the rest. if it wasnt for the later part of the movie , it would be a zero, and im a huge transformers fan. overall, the movie speeds threw parts which should be given more attention, and gives way too much time to parts that should last a minute or two Expand

I myself was a fan of the original Transformers, though admittedly not as big as I could have been never fully watching or reading any of the series, and my wife was never into them or saw anything of them practically at all. We both agreed that the movie was good though. It was fast paced, which apparently must have lost most critics I guess, because everyone seems to think their was no plot. We had no trouble with it though, and it made for such an entertaining movie, neither of us wanted to get up to use the bathroom. I thought there was a lot more Transformers action in this one, which was fun. I didn't have trouble distinguishing the bots like most critics seemed to, though admittedly it would have been a 10 in my book if they had simply gave them a little more time to get to know a couple characters in full like we do with the twins. It seemed to me that a lot was given to characterize robots. People also seem to complain about the twins being racist, but I didn't see it as racist until I heard critics arguing about it. I see plenty of kids acting like that, and believe me, it's not limited to Black, Hispanic, OR Caucasian people. It's just a dialect becoming very ambiguous between gangbanger types of all races, so why does it have to be racist? They're robots. They aren't any color but red and green. The notion that they're a black stereotype is only in the minds of the viewer, which is where the racism really lies. I also thought the treatment of the human-sided plot was interesting and playful. It's a shame most critics think so poorly of the fanservicey moment of Megan Fox's character at the beginning, though they seem to take that moment and blow it out of proportion. If you only read the critics (which I did before seeing it so expecting it to be very sexist) you would get a completely different idea of the character then what she was. The movie had a comic-book styled idea on sex appeal, with the sexual tension on the surface instead of what most movies fall to nowadays, simply having a full on sex scene right out of a porno. Great movie!! Expand

GOOD: -Bay /actually/ included 'Bee, whom I adore with every possible inch of my innerself, and so scream every single time I see a Chevy Camaro in real life. -Whoa, they actually made a second movie. -I liked seeing all of the new characters, and contradictory to what everyone esle says, I didn't mind Skids and Mudflap that much. But perhaps that's just because fourteen year olds act like that most of the time. So that means most of the kids at my school do that as well. -I loved the action, although sometimes it began to be overbearing. BAD: -What the hell ever happened to the Secretary of Defense?! They made a big deal of all the government security efforts in the first movie, leading up to a sequel, then TOTALLY DROP ALL OF IT?! What?! -They made Obama look like a doofass. Wtf?! But, then again...they made Bush look like a doofass in the first movie, so I guess it makes up for it. -Four words: Not enough robot scenes. It was mostly humans. Um, Bay, last time I checked the movie was called "Transformers", not "Aw Look at Sam being socially awkward at college *angstemoangstangst* and Mikaela acting like a total slut! :D" Yeah. I just said that. -I was /actually/ looking forward to seeing 'Bee a lot in this movie...-obsession-...and I barely got to see him. What's up with that?! -Let me just quote someone from a review I read once, "Bay might as well have made a movie about Mikaela's bouncing tits, and it probably still would have sold just as well." ---Sums in up in one sentence. Mikaela, please, put your shirt back on and quit getting boob-jobs. -Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. I think I speak for the over ten million emetophobes out there when I say, "What the fuck is up with Sam randomly hurling in the library?!" Did that even have a real purpose besides make me reconsider my popcorn buying habits? What about those sympathetic vomiters? Do you think I /really/ wanna look over and see someone puking in the middle of the movie? Nuuu. -Why Bay? Why? I was actually happy for like, the three minutes that Sam was dead. And, hell, even though I love 'Bee, I LOVE that expression that came across his face as he dropped to his knees in sorrow and disbelief. Absolutley amazing. And so why is it that it's impossible to find that clip? I think that sums it up for now...so...thus my horrid rating. It wasn't worth going for all of the things Bay did to fuck it up, but it was worth going to satisfy my Transfomers fix that I'd been having for about three months prior to its release. Expand

The first hour and a half of the movie I almost laughed at myself for doubting this movie, then the point all the raters made came out. This movie has AMAZING special effects, with perfectly created fights that left me with goosebumps, however, that just wasn't enough. It is a long movie ((close to three hours I believe)) and it hits a very stagnant point about half way through. The acting, other than LeBeouf, is stale and lazy. I would recommend this movie if you're a fan of stylized fighting sequences, such as some DBZ type stuff. If that doesn't interest you, don't waste the time or money Expand

Transformers 2 doubles Seriously, how can you go into a movie based on a cartoon with such high expectations for character development, plotline and "beautiful cinematography" which seems to be all that is needed for a good score these days. Transformers 2 doubles the action and despite some fairly erroneous and somewhat distracting errors in both story and effects creates an amazing experience. I don't recall Transformers both now and during the original cartoons run ever being about the story. It was always second to the eye candy of big guns on big robots. The movie delivers that and more with the added bonus of two total hotties for at least the first 30-45 minutes of the movie. Once people go into a movie expecting more than it needs to deliver, people go on a bashing run around the Internets and through the press. Its sad that films like this which are pure brain candy are treated like they might be the next Ben Hur and subsequently fall short. Expand

I was not a huge fan of the first movie and I was expecting to come out of this one feeling the same way. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this movie was actually a bit better than the first (from the perspective of a huge Transformers fan). I've read through the reviews on this site and have noticed that most of you disliked the constant comedic relief. After seeing a number of Summer blockbusters, I've trained myself to just ignore the comedy bits. If you can do the same you will enjoy this movie for what it is: robots fighting robots. The fight scenes in this movie were much longer and more prevalent than in the first, which is probably why I liked this one more. One particular battle in the forest towards the middle of the movie really won me over. The story in the movie, while weak, is really no more weak than the story of the first movie. A giant machine threatening to destroy the Earth is no different than an ancient Transformer relic threatening to destroy the Earth. One thing to note about the infamous "Twins" was that they were definitely racist stereotypes; however, I noticed that the only people laughing at them in my theater were the African American family behind me. If that family could enjoy the movie despite the "racism," I think a lot of other people can as well. Needless to say, I doubt The Twins will be back for number 3. If you're someone who can overlook a lot of cheese and just focus on the real point (robots fighting robots) this movie will please you. If you need a story that could win an Oscar, please skip this movie and don't bother reviewing it. Expand

OK so the plotline was a little thin, the sections which portray Sam's social life are DREADFUL and you'll find it hard to give a flying monkey shit about his girlfreind, and in a few of the fight scenes you simply CANNOT tell whats going on, but aside from this it remained a fairly fun outing. The special effects were phenomenal and make up for the fairly poor acting, and a few of the fight scenes do truly look awsome - what better to see than giant robots tearing each other's heads off? Overall it's naff and far from deep and moving, but probably jsut about worth spending a fiver to see the awsome robot fights on the big screen, but almost definately not worth getting on DVD. Expand

The special effects for this movie were incredible, but the story completely killed it. in the first movie, the basic story is: There are robots, both good and bad. There's a cube called the allspark and we need to stop the bad robots from getting it. In this movie, the plot is so convoluted i could barely understand what was happening. There's a piece of the all spark that sam has, then there's another one in a big super secret safe and then there's this other thing trapped in a cell made of transformer carcasses that does basically the same thing as the all spark and sam needs to get it before the bad robots destroy the great pyramid to unleash a machine to destroy our sun. i mean, WHAT?? In addition, the dialogue is laughable at times (along with the acting by a certain Megan Fox). When Megatron has a conversation with The Fallen, it comes off as a bad darth vader/emperor thing with the fallen referring to him as "My apprentice." Another thing that sealed the deal was that they tried too hard to make the robots funny. There are two robots that follow sam & company around for the whole film simply as "Comic relief." That'd be fine, IF THEY WERE FUNNY!! They come off to me as the jar jar binks of transformers. annyoing, stupid, and just plain unnecessary. This crit, (though it may be viewed as a plus for some) has to do with megan fox. The movie was a megan fox fest. From the first time she's on screen till when the credits roll, she's there to serve one purpose: To make the men drool. There's a shot in the final battle of Shia and Megan running through the smoke and flames in slow motion. There was no need for slow motion, except to make megan fox jiggle. (Not to mention her acting sucks so terribly). In conclusion, I think transformers overcomplicated itself and should have stuck with a simpler more straight forward storyline. The special effects are fantastic and nearly worth the price of admission alone, but no matter how great they are, they need a plot to stand on. And transformers just doesn't have one. Expand

This movie actually made it boring to sit through 2 and a half hours of an action movie, and you couldn't even tell whats going on when the robots fight.

A million times better than the 1st movie. If you go to a movie based on toy robots fighting one another expecting to get some of the best acting, and directing, theres something wrong with you. All I can say is that they really need to lighten up. If you are going to see this movie expecting an emotional outing, a well driven story, or a tried and true Transformers die-hard loyal movie, you will hate it. However- go to see it for what it is, a fun summer flick, and you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit. It's a summer movie- it's just for fun. Don't go LOOKING for a bad movie or that's what you'll get, go with an open mind and what you'll get is a fun summer movie that's not too shabby. Expand
