The movie failed to make a profit, but, like so many titles before it, this film presents the beauty of cinematography and the imagination of mankind at its best. This movie has all the trappings of a peak Disney family feature; a time when that company promoted friendship, faith and good will to all men. As such,“Tomorrowland” embodies the hope, excitement and wonder that so many of us feel during childhood. More importantly, it speaks of true love: that, despite our constant arguing, differences and conflict, our friends and family still care, no matter what. Finally, “Tomorrowland” teaches us that we need to let go of, not only our doubts, anger and resentment, but also let go of our emotional dependence on others. That way we can all move forward into the future.

This movie has me smiling wide-eyed and honestly crying at its uplifting message and excellent pace. It has me glued to my monitor in a trance that almost no current Hollywood production can do any longer. Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof: I received your wonderful message and it lives and breathes in my heart. This is a very underrated movie. It is actually a really fun adventure with an original premise. The characters are likeable, the visuals are spectacular, the world is really immersive, and it has a very intriguing plot. Brad Bird has a wayThis is a very underrated movie. Brad Bird has a way of directing that makes everything feel so fun and adventurous as he have done with the Incredibles movies and MI- Ghost Protocol. Michael Giacchino's score is absolutely terrific, big, melodic, and orchestral. I listen to the Pin-Ultimate Experience and End Credits cue all the time. The third act unfortunately is a bit of a let down but still it doesn't ruin the movie or anything. Since the buildup and the anticipation of the first two acts were so well done, I just thought there would be something more interesting by the end. However, it is very emotional and I like the way it wraps up. Although George Clooney is good, Britt Robertson and Raffey Cassidy are the standouts here and they are both wonderfully charismatic. It is truly too bad that this original film tanked at the box office because I really would like to see more adventure films like this. I wish Brad Bird would come back to direct live action films especially adventure films like this one.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, the visuals/CGI in this are really good! I found it a very entertaining and enjoyable watch due to the different colourful worlds shown. Its quite engrossing. It definitely has a childlike naivety to it but then it is a Disney film and it seemed like a family friendly film for the most part, so thats ok.

I liked the fantasy element of it. The colours are quite vivid, even in scenes set on modern day Earth, so it has a comic book type feel to it visually, aside from the CGI aspect. I felt it was a nice escapist watch - it reminded me somewhat of the Spy Kids films, in terms of the mix of CGI environments and real life scenes, although with better effects of course. I quite like watching the adult (George Clooney, rather than Antonio Banderas like in the Spy Kids films) getting flustered, while the kids seem to know exactly what their doing. There was one scene which made me think of Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium, if but briefly.

However, it does take a rather sombre tone towards the end, which some may criticise it for, as it highlights the worrying future for our planet due to the activity of humans, i.e. the impact of climate change etc.

Overall (that aside) this is a fun watch which I'd recommend.… Expand

Как не странно, но почему то мне нравятся многие фильмы которые проваливаются в прокате в США. Водный мир, Поле битвы Земля, Нечто и т. д. Земля будущего, из этой серии.

Даже не знаю с чего начать. Сам фильм увидел только в 2017м году по тв. Досмотрел до первой рекламы и побежал качать Blu-ray версию, ну естественно с торрента.
Фильм очень понравился. Весёлый, красивый, не напрягающий фильм. Под него легко расслабиться после работы.
Очень понравились актеры, особенно актрисы. Графика тоже на высоте, придраться не к чему.
Сюжет развивается логично, в начале есть даже какая то интрига, чем то напомнил первых Детей шпионов. Самый большой недостаток, как мне кажется, вот в чем. Фильму был очень нужен сиквел. И сиквел нужен был с теми же главными героями. Но увы. Чёкнутые американские критики фильм уничтожили (Негров нет, лгбт тоже отсутствует. Ну как такое кино может быть хорошим в сша? ;-( ).
Ещё, как мне показалось, у фильма была очень плохая рекламная компания, по крайней мере в России. О фильме я лично ничего не слышал до 2017 года, хотя в кинотеатры хожу.
Хотелось было бы увидеть более полную историю того самого мира будущего, что с ним произошло, почему и кто виноват в этом. Длина фильма 2 часа 10 минут и я думаю можно было бы добавить минут 20, что бы раскрыть тайны будущего.
А так это прекрасный семейный, приключенческий и фантастический фильм. Всем поклонникам Детей шпионов и Пятых элементов смотреть в обязательном порядке!… Expand

It takes the movie about 30 minutes to really kick into gear but it will not effect your overall experience. I enjoyed the plot of slowly figuring out what is Tomorrowland and what's the purpose behind it all. Yes, the movie is not a perfect one but it is neither a bad one.

I have read quite a lot of negative comments about this movie and even its message and I find that to be slightly odd. The main purpose of this movie was to provide fun and entertainment to the audience and it does fulfill it's purpose.

Overall, I will surely recommend this movie to anyone. At least it tried something new in childish and entertaining way. Don't check critics reviews, they wrote more childish reviews than the movie's story.… Expand

I found film enjoyable from beginning to end. It's full comedic whit and stunning imagery. The actors are all at there best in this film especially George Clooney. This makes almost all the characters interesting. There is one exception to this rule however and that our main antagonist Nix play Hugh Laurie. Though Laurie plays the character perfectly with what he is given the character fails to realize any type of depth tho the failings of his own motivation. But to be honest since he isn't in the film all that much it doesn't really hurt the film. The best of the film is the philosophical questions that it raises about the future and how we view it being important. In conclusion if your looking for a film that everyone in your family to enjoy this is perfect film for you.… Expand

Sadly I was somewhat disappointed with this movie. I had expected so much more from it.

The story itself was fresh and interesting. The choice of actors, however, left me underwhelmed. I enjoyed George Clooney playing a grumpy old man.Sadly I was somewhat disappointed with this movie. I had expected so much more from it.

C’est un film qui commence différemment des autres films basiques -> gros méchants, des gentils et terminer.
Non dans celui-ci Disney commence par vous faire rêver .... avec c’est deux scènes d’introduction magique. Puis il vous montre qui sont les gentils, vous fait connaître quelque méchant sans importance qui font un petit clin d’oeil a TERMINATOR (au passage), vous rappelle que Star Wars est une licence qui leur appartient et en profite pour faire de la pub (ce qui mon fait plaisir,pourquoi? Car ce n’est pas un panneau publicitaire ...) Puis à la fin le gigantesque méchant.
C’est une progression que j’admire de la part du réalisateur. C’est très chouette.
Je n’ai pas vu ce film en 3D, mais au vu de toutes les scènes je ne sais pas si c’était vraiment la peine.
Des musiques sympathiques qui nous font rentrer dans cet univers de rêve.
Bref si vous avez des enfants ce film correspond quasiment à la perfection.
Un film que je conseille vivement… Expand

Tomorrowland is a plot driven sci-fi thriller about a girl that finds a collector's pin that allows her to enter into another world. The action and chase sequences are slick fun with mature choreography created and performed lethally. It is a visual galore brimmed with gritty humans, fragile robots, darker future and jaw dropping technology which frankly was difficult to pull off considering the vision, but it surely is convincing enough. There are bits and pieces of humor in it which is imputed smoothly and works with the flow especially all the tiny physical notions. It is too calculative and is obliged with its subjective procedure to set up the plots and characters, that it fails to offer the basic need to its audience. There are few ideas extracted from here and there with very little to offer on terms of originality. The cinematography and background isn't suffice for it to glorify the scenes which frankly is in desperate need of. Clooney adapts the character aptly with Robertson still in need of polishing along with Cassidy and Laurie who surprisingly seems distracted in here. The narrative is too diplomatic for it to breed the crisp out of its over thought out concept. The conversations may be inedible at times but few one liners hits it out of the park along with its perfectly cooked characters that are just pure fun to explore. Ticking for more than two hours, Bird's execution may be worth but a blunt script as such fails on all levels to cut out its own premise amidst all the commercial aspect of it. The passionate vision of Bird, the emotional aspects that the concept deals with and well constructed physical sequences are the high points of the feature. Tomorrowland is Bird's attempt on creating a sci-fi, it is a plausible attempt but the viewers seek more.… Expand

Overall, this is a pretty nice movie. Nice, developed characters and an interesting plot, but if you miss one tiny detail at any part of the movie, it won't make much sense, which hurts the experience, but it's still worth watching.

Technically sublime and under scrutiny entertaining but unfortunately Tomorrowland fails to meet expectations, the culptrist are the script and its own scope that is only helpful to inspire if the story is motivating. Beyond its own idea of elitism, the criticism it shows works under certain circumstances, because if in fact one can live in that dream world, what is the purpose of our real world in the first place?

Not sure why critics hated on this movie so much. It's fun, original, and thoroughly entertaining. There was appropriate use of Clooney (not too much) and Brit Robertson gives an excellent performance. Hugh Laurie and Raffey Cassidy are greatNot sure why critics hated on this movie so much. Often feeling like a modern attempt to rekindle the joy and sense of adventure of 1980s science fiction films, Tomorrowland largely feels like a paltry imitation that has no idea what made those films work. Though capably acted throughoutOften feeling like a modern attempt to rekindle the joy and sense of adventure of 1980s science fiction films, Tomorrowland largely feels like a paltry imitation that has no idea what made those films work. Though capably acted throughout with a compelling premise, Tomorrowland gets too bogged down in the details and forgets to have a good time, instead opting to rush through its conclusion that may have a heart warming message, but really lacks the quality build-up to make it all pay-off. Though fashionable to criticize screenwriter Damon Lindelof for the issues of every film he touches, I have never had that much of a problem with the man. However, Tomorrowland most certainly falters because of its script, though with Brad Bird having a hand in the script and directing the film, the buck stops with him and there are some issues here that should have been stopped from the beginning, ignoring the internal inconsistency that also plagues the film, but could be ignored if the film were better.

This major issue is the fact that the film is two-thirds exposition and character introduction. Introducing us to Frank Walker (George Clooney), his love of inventing, and how he arrived in Tomorrowland with the help of a young girl/robot named Athena (Raffey Cassidy) who recruits dreamers to come to Tomorrowland, the film then introduces us to Casey Newton (Britt Robertson). Explaining everything about their lives, showing pointless backstory about how they love science and invention, and then having Athena and Casey race to meet Frank, it takes a while for the film to introduce its central problem. While some could say they introduce it early when Athena says that Casey is needed to fix Tomorrowland because somebody made something they should not have made, that is merely a foreshadow to what the actual problem is. It is not until two-thirds of the way into the film or so that we actually learn what the problem is: the world is ending. Within half an hour, the disaster is averted due to Casey's optimism and ability to help the world stop focusing on the negative and instead refocus the world on the positive sides of things. How does she do this, you ask? Spoiler: (though a spoiler, it is one that can save you 130 minutes of your life, so I do recommend you read it) she blows it up. Yes, that is literally all there is to it. In order to justify going an extra thirty minutes, there is some fighting between our heroes and chief bad guy David Nix (Hugh Laurie), some fuss about a bomb, and sequences of Casey learning the world will end and freaking out about all of it before saving it and then teaming up with Frank to fix everything and repopulate Tomorrowland with a new set of dreamers. Until this largely cliche sequence that is just filler, there is further filler early on with Frank initially being hesitant to help Casey only to be influenced to help her when he sees guard robots from Tomorrowland following her with the mission of killing her. The film largely goes through the beats of any adventure film about somebody tasked with saving the world and needing the help of somebody who came before them and may or may not have had a hand in creating the present situation. It is a film that has been done many times before and will be made again in the future. For a film that has such an inventive premise, it is a shame to see it just slowly wind up becoming highly derivative and never breathing life into anything.

The script's internal consistency is also a major issue. For example, David Nix says the machine cannot be turned off. Though it is not turned off, it is blown up, which apparently turns it off. Without any explanation as to how the world is saved and rapidly becomes what it once was where people were optimistic about the future instead of afraid of what was to come, everything is fixed. The machine that caused it having the impact it has similarly makes no sense. Allowing the user to see the past, present, and future around the world, it apparently sends radio waves or something out to other dimensions and its mere presence via these waves - even if not tapped into - caused the world to see a bleak future that was coming true via a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or something like that. With regard to the character of Athena, she is incapable of love, emotion, and having ideas, until she loves Frank, has emotions regarding the end of their time together, and has an idea on how to fix everything. Though just minor examples, these do hint to how much this film alters from its 80 minutes of exposition just out of pure convenience or forgetting the fact that it had been previously defined. The film even contradicts things mere moments after it is introduced, which really makes this one incredibly lazily written and inexcusable.… Expand

Il y a aussi le Docteur Maison (non, pas Bonnemaison !) qu'on a laissé sortir de son hôpital à pognon et qui est toujours aussi con. Mais c'est quand même joli ce Disney qui sauve le monde gnééééé.… Expand

A family movie unlike any other. It's has action, effects, verve, exciting concept... It also has ambition and something meaningful to say. And putting young two girl heroes (one's a robot!) in the centre of the story was quite refreshing. But all in all, the movie is so uneven that I can't fully recommend it.

"Tomorrowland" feels never elegants script-wise and the acting style seems kind of hammy (I think it's intentional). But the first act, or about 45 minutes, is really catchy.

A lot is happening then, movie is chock-full of ideas how to take us on a visual joyride. New things are coming in like flood, often way before we are finished enjoying the previous things.

The parallel world is quite cool too, think Luc Besson's cult classic "The Fifth Element" (1997) in a Disney remix. Too bad we get to see actually so little of it.

But from during the second hour, i really started feeling disappointed of seeing so much material to build on (both story and the world) but makers choosing to fill the time with endless mediocre mindless action. The second half turns out to be a bit of a drag, especially final "battle". The movie should really be shorter. Not to mention wasting the message part of the movie, being just "Facebook deep".

Brad Bird is known for near-flawless directing career so far. He is the man behind three animations ("The Iron Giant", "The Incredibles", "Ratatouille") and "MIssion: Impossible 4", all well regarded in their genres. But "Tomorrowland" is messy, having too much material and not knowing where to put all of it. Maybe it was a mistake for Bird to write screenplay with Damon Landelof, the creator of "Lost" which also started strong and ended having way too much of everything.

"Tomorrowland" is based on the Disney amusement parks' areas of the same name, by the way. Just like "Pirates of the Caribbean".… Expand

Ok, so the beginning felt like it might be a really exciting movie. Afterwards it got even more exciting and I thought we will see lots of action in it too combined with futuristic/sci-fi stuff. In my opinion because it is Disney, the company which made it, so they made it family friendly and full of lessons for kids. Though it has enough dazzle, Tomorrowland takes a while to start moving, but, once it gets going, its an action-packed, visual splendor, even if it may be too "kiddish" for older viewers.

The movie was just okay to me... I absolutely loved the cast and I am glad that I got to see it for that reason alone but it was way to far fetched. I really did not find this movie interesting at all. none of the characters really impressed me except the villain who I think met an unjust end. Besides the young robot girl he was the character with the most meaning through out the film. I think the ending would have had more impact if instead of killing off the cynical character they changed his mind and helped him to believe in humanity again. The movie claims to be about "optimism" but none of the characters optimism was believable, while the villain made the most sense through the movie its a shame they ended it the way the did. The movie could have shown true optimism by curing the cynic of his cynicism instead of killing him off.

This was targeted at children but I found it pointlessly confusing and, while i'm sure they will enjoy the special effects, the message will be lost on them.… Expand

A beautiful treat for the eyes. One of this film's strengths is that it regularly dazzles viewers with the exciting things portrayed on film. It really is stunning. Another of the movie's strengths is that it thankfully has some substance to back up all that flash. While perhaps a bit uneven at times, "Tomorrowland" has a nice message and a decent plot to keep people invested until the end.

It's just a shame the characters aren't more interesting. The entire cast is made up of some very talented actors and actresses. I mean heck, it's got George Clooney. Unfortunately the majority of them are playing bland character-types we've all seen before. They lack true depth and are just there to carry the plot forward and get that message across. The only one I cared about was Raffey Cassidy's "Athena." She absolutely steal the show here and outdoes Clooney himself. It's a real treat to see her work.

The "never stop dreaming" message is a good one and is presented in an exciting and fresh manner. There's plenty of action, humor, and heart to be found here. It's just a shame the heart part falls short thanks to the majority of the characters being boring. The "science" behind the film might make realists want to throw something at the screen, but as Clooney says in the film "why can't you just be amazed and move on?"

Tomorrowland is an entertaining movie. One with a lot of flash and excitement. The substance backing it all up might not always be up to snuff, but it's enough to keep things entertaining until it's end. While not perfect it's still worth a watch. Especially with such a good message for the kids. There's even one for the grownups.

It's got some great visuals but seems like a lot of its movie budget went down the drain. It's not like they got special effects in every scene...it's nowhere near that. While it is overall entertaining and has a positive nessage, it suffers from a very slow start and underwhelming ending. It takes like 30 mins to get the ball rolling and for you to figure out what is going on. Also felt that the demise of one of the central robot/android characters (and George Clooney's character's reaction to it) was not very believable--I mean she's a machine, she should be able to copy/download her memories to some backup device and live again in a new body. And lastly, they should have titled it better--it's got nothing to do with the Tomorrowland in Disneyland.… Expand

Tomorrowland is a film that only exists as a live action film because the quality of CGI has reached that point where rendering such diverse, deep and almost photo-realistic backgrounds is possible.
The film oozes quality in every aspect.Tomorrowland is a film that only exists as a live action film because the quality of CGI has reached that point where rendering such diverse, deep and almost photo-realistic backgrounds is possible.
The film oozes quality in every aspect. The imagery as already mentioned, but also the cast, score, cinematography.. It all just has has a gleam an 18ct gold necklace would have over a more ordinary (but still very nice!) 9ct one.
The problem is the storyline/script. Not suggesting it's a bad film... Because it isn't. It fills up its run-time and you still feel like you wanted more. And that's the real problem.
The movie, to me, feels more like a pilot episode to a television series. It doesn't really explain anything, it just barrels along at a fast pace, sweeping you along with it... But it is all action set-pieces, there's incredibly little narrative, just exposition. As I said, nothing is explained... It's just people talking about why they need to do what they're doing, suggesting that this is nothing more than a set up for something which is to follow.
The ending is very much like the ending to a TV show pilot, in that the 'story' which introduces the characters and offers a glimpse beyond the initial premise is closed off... But is immediately followed by a 'stay tuned for scenes from our next episode' epilogue.
In fact the second time I watched the film I mentally made notes where adverts could be placed... Just after something ominous was revealed, or when a big action sequence finished etc, etc.

Overall it's a good film and, as mentioned, the ending does suggest the writers/producers were expecting sequels... However, with the poor box office numbers, I (sadly) suspect the wonderful world of Tomorrowland will never be visited again.… Expand

I will have to say overall the movie was very disappointing, am glad I didn't spend hard earned money at the theater and waited to rent it. The acting from the entire cast is very good throughout the film however she absolutely steals the show anytime she is on screen. Her skill is a prime example of an actor bringing their A-game when it counts and she does it. The film has some great effects and that is one of the high points in this film and I think that actors do a pretty good job in this movie considering what they were given for a script. I did not really feel connected with the characters despite this cast and I really didn't know if the chemistry was 100 percent established with the cast. The third act, the point where everything should really get exciting, is the part where the whole movie just falls apart. The film is too long and allows so much build up only to crack under the pressure. Then I see the credits and see Damon Lindelof wrote this film, the man who is famous for LOST. I must say that is a bit ironic.

I think that Tomorrowland is no where near being a bad film there was just so much potential and it settles for mediocrity. I applaud the effort for Brad Bird and this film is still hardly a scratch on his record so far so I'm sure he will be back with a vengeance for Incredibles 2.… Expand

You know... I went in anticipating just to see how bad this movie was and why it under performed so much.

And now I know... One, Tomorrowland is nothing like the majority of bad reviews it's painted to be. Reason two, people just weren't ready for a story that doesn't travel from point A to B in fast cars, guns blazing, in a straight line.

There is much involved in the story, thus the general viewer will be bored, especially when it's a film about imagination and also about being a better person.. If people asked me what this film was about then that's what I would say.
Tomorrowland is film that was given a chance to be created and it just didn't pay off due to no fault of it's own. So I want to thank the people that made this film possible. People complain when a film is a rehash yet when something new and refreshing comes along, it's ignored and in this case.. unfairly reviewed.
If Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki had made this film and had it animated, then it would have been hailed as a classic and won the animated movie catergory in most awards. It really does feel like a Ghibli movie and I feel if you like Studio Ghibli, then you would like Tomorrowland. It simply does not feel like a normal Hollywood movie, which is why it failed.

In short, Brad Bird has yet again made an excellent film, well written, well directed and well acted by all involved. Don't buy into it's box office failure, just give it a go.… Expand

Who could have thought the team-up of the director of ‘TheTomorrowland; the movie that was going to stand out as an original sequel-killer failed to deliver a stronger box office-performance, and of course a less messy and entertaining plot. Who could have thought the team-up of the director of ‘The Incredibles’ and the writer of unaccountable episodes of ‘Lost’ could result it such a popcorn-disaster.

So the movie starts exactly how you think it would, with a young dreamer called Casey Newton and her journey to the mysterious place called Tomorrowland. The plot is very focused on just that, to get to the land of dreams. It’s very optimistic too. It got a lot to tell about us humans on a basic scale, in a way that might be considered a bit cliché-ish though. But the plot is very uncertain after the second act. The movie keeps going but it’s not really clear where we’re going. And because of that; the excitement was lost and the movie failed to deliver. It felt boring and non-entertaining on a personal level at several occasions. The opening sequence didn’t add to that, which felt annoying, childish and overly messy. But let’s not forget the movie and its strength, and there are some of them!

There are a lot of beautiful, realistic and fascinating shots where Brad Bird really did a big difference! The whole ride into this world is so realistic, and not to mention the spectacular action and sci-fi. Just the basic idea of this extraordinary place is wonderful and original. The ride to go there and all these adventurous events is a superb idea! Add somewhat inventive intense action to the film, and you get some awesome moments! But it’s as previously mentioned, a not so great movie. The plot is so one-dimensional and it’s not really explained in the detail what’s going on. It’s messy, weird and it got some smaller plot-holes here and there.

But what about the basics? How’s the characters, actors and dialogs? Well they’re are all great! George Clooney is flawless, as usual. Strong characters and understandable and relatable dialogs are present as well. But there’s some vague chemistry between the main characters. ‘They doesn’t have that strong bond’.

So to keep it short; Tomorrowland is just as Jupiter Ascending. The basic idea is fundamentally great, but the execution of the plot is so weird, non-interesting and silly. No feeling either. But the idea is great and it really is inventive, original and a fun ride into the imagination. But less great than the expectations.

Positive aspects: Highly original, realistic and stunning cinematography, action and characters.
Negative aspects: An overly messy and childish structure, plot-holes, uneven storytelling and a non-interesting plot.

I saw this film being mediocre from the trailers. Every trailer never revealed anything big, but it always panned to beautiful CGI. I saw this movie without good expectations and I have found a really nice film, original and fresh.

It was really disappointing to see a movie with so much anticipation split people in half. While I'm not going on record saying that this was flat amazing, I will say it was honestly (in my opinion) that "Tomorrowland" was still really fun and inventive. First off, it's visually stunning. Brad Bird has a very creative look and the concept was interesting for literally the first two acts. I'll get to that later. The characters I found to be quite interesting. George Clooney is great as a gruff older man. Britt Robertson is also equally great as the female lead. But it's Raffey Cassidy as the little girl that steals the movie. Not only was she so unexpected, but she was a straight up bad-ass and served purposefully well in this movie. The big problem with "Tomorrowland" is the last act. The message presented something that I first bought into at first, but it kept beating you over the head. And the big climax was a big let down. And the ending doesn't leave you inspired because of its forced message. Other than that, I think the movie is quite a bit of fun with awesome action/visual sequences and great characters. If you didn't like it the first time, I want to recommend those to at least give it another try. I give this a B!… Expand

Its very well meaning, and really wants to educate, it just needed to be that little bit more fun.… Expand

Brad Bird is the director of this movie. You may not know the name, but you definitely know the movies. He is the director of films such as The Incredibles, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Ratatouille and The Iron Giant. Needless to say,Brad Bird is the director of this movie. Needless to say, I was extremely hyped for Tomorrowland. And I wasn't disappointed with what I got, but I wasn't the happiest chap either. The acting in this movie is pretty good. George Clooney was on point, as were most of the actors. Its a Disney movie, so its not too mild in its violence, however I was pretty surprised with the violence in this film. It was, pretty freaking violent. Anyway, by the third act, the movie sort of starts to slip a bit. But, it regains strength by the end of the film with a solid ending that definitely satisfies you. Its worth the price of admission, but it isn't Brad Bird's greatest. Then again, that's a pretty tough spot to beat considering he made The Incredibles and The Iron Giant. My final thoughts on this movie are:
If you want to see an entertaining but not too confusing Sci-Fi adventure film, Tomorrowland is your movie.… Expand

It's visual aspects are absolutely the most stunning, and perhaps the only the element that keeps the movie afloat. Casey was a likable hero, even relatable. We knew her and we believed she was special. But everyone else was unconvincing. I don't believe for a second that Frank is "special" or can save the world. It doesn't feel like he wants to. I also don't think that's Clooney's fault. Frank's character was never even alive because the story didn't allow it.

At the beginning, I was amazed by the overall splendor of Tomorrowland and its mystery, as well of as these animatronics, but as soon as that image of a prosperous and beautiful Tomorrowland is gone, so is the movie. The city is in ruin just like the plot. I'm not even going to go in detail here because quite honestly it just doesn't make sense. The events that transpire don't really add up, they just play loud music and have a lot of special effects. I didn't find myself really caring whether or not the world even ended, because I didn't even understand why these imaginary things could cause such disaster and ruin. Tomorrowland was supposed to be a place of creativity and I just feel like that's something the movie desperately needs to save it. Where is our real-life Casey?… Expand

The Good: As the trailers and previews showed us, the film was visually stunning ... probably even moreso than expected. The actual scenes of Tomorrowland itself were absolutely fantastic and stimulate the imagination. Brittany Robertson was solid in a lead role, while Clooney and Laurie did admirable jobs in supporting roles. Laurie in particular did a good job, in the limited screen time he was given, as the film's main antagonist. The concept, in a basic sense, is a good one and the potential was there for a fun and interesting film.

The Bad: Unfortunately, it fails to live up to it's potential. The fantastic effects and scenery were predominantly shown in the trailers and previews and there was little else beyond those moments. The film also slows down to a crawl for VERY long periods of time, thus ruining the brief momentum it does gain. The story itself eventually falls apart and the ending leaves you scratching your head as it was not well thought out. Lastly, while Robertson does a good job in the role, her character was not well written. She is supposed to be some sort of chosen one with a special gift, yet why or how was never explained. Compounding the issue, she never really does anything special and never makes you feel like she is truly humanity's last hope ... though you are repeatedly told that she is.… Expand

The opening act successfully teases the audience into wanting to know more, but unfortunately the film suffers in its pacing to a large degree. The film feels like a ninety minute beginning to a movie, with little character development and lack of a clear narrative arc. The characters are poorly written, lacking in comedic humour, successful dialogue and basic human instincts and emotional drives. Not to mention the incredibly unusual relationship between the main characters and the lack of a proper antagonist. In terms of narrative arc, the film's pacing is a massive downfall. Whilst the opening act engages the audience's intrigues, the film slows down and eventually simmers out, up until the point that the viewer is disengaged in the already disappointing final act. Overall, Tomorrowland is contradictory, unrealistic, over political and lacking in any sense of adventure or fun promised in the trailers.… Expand

Kind of like how “Gravity” takes you on an obstacle leaden journey across space, “Tomorrowland” has you travelling alongside the protagonists as they escape peril time after time to get to their destination. Brad Bird may not have topped his initial live action outing of “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol”, but he shows that the first movie was no fluke, and I honestly hope that he never goes back to animation. I found this to be a thrilling ride, and if you can put yourself in the mindset of a kid for a few hours, you may too.… Expand

I was expecting a Disney commercial, a sermon, a poorly thought out ending, and there to be other problems with the movie. I didn't experience any of those things. What I did find was a movie that was inventive, surprising and engaging. The movie was fresh in its presentation and the actors were well cast and believable. The message of choosing to feed hope or despair is thought provoking. The dichotomy of critic and user reviews seems to mirror that message.… Expand

Surprisingly good. I didn't expect much from the director of "The Incredibles". While the idea - travels to the future is not new, its realization impresses. I liked all major characters, especially cyborg girl and House.MD as main villain :)
