A tedious movie that manages to wring the life out of every second of its 130 minute running time. ..130 minutes of life I'd like back.

By comparison, this movie lost the wider community interaction, fun spirit, and sense of existance. New Moon was just a bunch of wind sweap scenes of moaning over the next untouchable, yet 'promising to protect you and be yours forever" guy. I know there was a lot to get covered, but the movie was just dull. The slo mo action scenes (carpet blood flight, fighting wolves) just made me think of computers and think at least about the better direcion in Buffy/ Angel. I thought Hardwicke and team's music choices really blended well and added, while NM music was just tv-inspired mood backdrop. I did enjoy the boy flesh (go Team Jacob!). NM made me just wish Edward would go away. Expand

Both this and the first movie were AWFUL. I love my niece but I will never forgive her for making me sit through both of these. Poorly written, poorly acted, no actual plot and far too much dialogue for you to consider this anything other than a some sort of Lifetime made-for-tv movie with "vampires". People on here comparing this to Romeo and Juliet have clearly never read Romeo and Juliet. And the other thing I've notice, and clearly I am not the first, is that all of the positive comments are female composed. Oh well. I guess we get 300 and Troy and a bunch of other cheesey brutish flicks and they get Twilight. Maybe some day they'll actually start producing good, substantial movies again. Expand

If you are a 13 - 16 year old girl, then it's just a phase. Otherwise, there's nothing that redeems this movie's torturously slow pace, Unbroken depressive moodiness, and complelete failure to feature satisfying action in such a super-hyped blockbuster. The female lead grates on the nerves the whole movie, and the male lead is non-existent. It gets a grudging one point from me because for a whole 7-8 minutes in that entire movie there was an actual vampire fight that gave insight into the relative strengths, powers, and weaknesses of the vampires in this world. Also, for the first time ever, at the end of these seven minutes, it turns out that Bella might not be completely worthless and defenseless. In summary, the entire film could be reduced to the audience with the Elder Italian Vampire Clan, and the audience would have seen everything worth seeing, regarding the male and female leads. Except that her friend is a werewolf, but she ditches him , so it doesn't really matter. I encourage others to vote this down so low that it winds up on the worst movies top 200. Expand

I gave this film a chance because I thought the books were decent, albeit ridiculous, though after all this sick, childish mania I've even turned from those. The only thing that saves this film is the man-candy that are the La Push werewolves. But Sparkles and Pathetic Swan could be killed off and these films still wouldn't have a prayer. It's painful to see what this ridiculous series has reduced vampires to. I sincerely hope this is forgotten as quickly as it began so Hollywood can make room for some real vampire films. This crap can stick to television and sad, emo teenagers who have no concept of the level of awesomeness required to make a real vampire film. No more of this vampire literature blasphemy. Expand

No wonder the divorce rate is so high. A bunch of vapid characters glaring at each other and muttering lines that are sappier than a maple tree. This is what constitutes entertainment today for this age group? At least 300 taught boys some history. The saddest part is, Romeo and Juliet (which this story weakly alludes to) is 1000% better (and more romantic), yet it's next to impossible to interest young girls in Shakespeare because we've replaced the teaching of Classics in our schools with doo-doo like this. When are we going to see movies where young girls are intelligent, capable, determined, and set on forging their own destinies. Somebody please give Joss Whedon $200 million dollars. PLEASE. Expand

The chemistry that Bella and Edward shared in Twilight is null and void here. I know Edward is gone for most of the story but that doesn't mean their chemistry is lacking. Something about sparkly indecisive vampires isn't too impressive. Anne Rice got it right. Not twilight. This movie is FOR preteen girls hoping to see a bare chest. My opinion? Kristin Stewart's acting is HORRIBLE. She's emotionless and bland and just not the right person to play the role of a love sick teenager. The hospital scene in the first one was retarded, her deadpan voice was not at all convincing. All in all, she ruins the movies. Robert Patterson isn't any better. Even adding in a seasoned actor like Michael Sheen was not enough to save this series. I very much enjoyed the books but do get extremely tired of the patheticism that surrounds the character of Bella. Kristen Stewart's ridiculous over-acting does nothing to help this fact. It's difficult to me to even see the main love story as the highlight of this series, because they are so childish, it's vomit reflex inducing. I never though I would say I'm a Jacob fan over an Edward fan but Taylor Lautner really makes this movie for me. He just brings some smiling and laughter to this otherwise very morose love story. I can't imagined anyone would want to be condemned to such a clingy relationship. Even when the supernatural are involved there can be a sense of humor and a little fun. I just feel that Anne Rice would weep at the ridiculousness these supposedly beautifully frightening creatures have been reduced to. The werewolves ended up being the highlight for me. The graphics are beautiful and make up for shotty camera work. The other Cullens do well off-setting the moody, love-sick 100 some year old teenager they harbor. They and Michael Sheen are the only highlights to the Twilight vampires. Expand

I think the next movie will be even better because the book is so full of action. I thought the actors were really good and had great chemistry. This movie basically sets the scene and characters for the next two movies so some of the slow stuff was necessary. I think Kristen Stewart is the perfect Bella and Taylor Lautner was a great Jacob. Unfortunately, Bella and Edward do not qualify. Bella is a co-dependent, selfish, teasing, manipulative, emotionless hack of a character that nobody can, and shouldn't, relate to. When she gets dumped by Edward, she rides with bikers, throws herself off a cliff, and crashes a motorcycle that results in a bad head injury solely just to fuel her adrenaline-induced hallucinations of Edward. Edward, on the other hand, is nothing more than physically dangerous and emotionally abusive. The highlight of his character happens not too far into the movie where he tries to 'protect' Bella from a fellow vampire set off by her blood. His first instinct is to push her out of the way and into a plate glass table while running at mach 5. After that, he dumps her. New Moon, much like Twilight, just serves as eye candy to underage girls and single women. There's not a hint of a true romance here. Titanic and Beauty and the Beast still stand as my favorite romance movies because I could relate to the characters, and I wanted them to get together. Anybody that relates to either of these characters needs some serious help. Expand

This movie was quite boring, with no real ending. More emo Bella and Edward. More "Vampires" who sparkle and don't have fangs. I really like the idea of the story but it just doesn't do it for me. I'll watch the third just to... I dunno...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am unable to criticize too much a film but in this case, yes. New Moon is certainly one of the most morally harmful to the film world. I still can not believe that the is love between Edward and Belle. Edward that moves away from Belle so as not to hurt (which, however, the wounds). Belle gets depressed and is four months without doing anything to fight back, then he consoles himself with Jacob and then it happens here in the chaos. I do not understand how can people like this saga. Expand

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' is an excruciating exercise in filmmaking and overall film entertainment. One must wonder what the filmmakers were thinking when they finished making this and probably thought, "We did a good job, here!".

The film continues more or less where the first film left off. In that we see Bella (Kristen Stewart) still living with her father and is having nightmares about being old and the fact that her vampire lover, Edward (Robert Pattinson) will never age, and hasn't done so since he was 17. Later on, we see that Edward doesn't want to risk Bella's life by having himself in it, so he tells her that he's going away, and that she must not do anything erratic. Despite his leaving being the best for both of them, she cannot seem to function without him, nor can he stop concerning himself over her.

Bella decides to bond even more closely with Jacob Black (an often topless Taylor Lautner), in which she soon discovers that werewolves become a part of his life, and how they are not so keen on vampires. This then leads to a constant conflict as to whether or not Bella is attracted to Edward or Jacob, not only is she facing the difficult decision over which bland boyfriend she wants, but they could not be more opposite if they tried. It's almost like choosing between a PC or a Mac...they're rivals in every way, but you cannot make the decision over which is best for you.

The film moves at a frustratingly slow pace, it doesn't help as well that the characters presented to us are no more interesting either. Kristen Stewart lacks the ability to show enthusiasm in her performance, unless that is how Stephanie Meyer (the writer of these books) wanted the character to be. It makes me wonder why two guys like Edward and Jacob are so fascinated by Bella...there is nothing about her character that seems so special. I'm not sure if I should blame Stewart's performance, or if I should blame the direction by Chris Weitz, or if I should blame the screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg.

"New Moon" is absolutely devoid of interest, devoid of fun, devoid of a compelling execution for a story. It doesn't hook you in like most "sagas" are supposed to...instead it leaves you hungry, impatient, and overall, dissatisfied.

Whilst I decided to, I will give my thoughts on the entire pentalogy which I've never heard of the term before so I gotta get on point with them so let's stop p***ing about and let's get on with it. On Bella's 18th birthday she wakes up from a dream where she is an old woman and Edward Cullen. His family host a birthday reception for her. Whilst Bella had a paper cut Jasper is overwhelmed by the scent of her blood, he decides to attack her but is restrained. Edward believes that he and his family are putting Bella's life in danger so he decides to end their relationship and he and the Cullens leave Forks. For months, Bella is depressed and isolated. She meets with Jacob Black played by Taylor Lautner and they develop a strong friendship. Okay, now I can get to my problems here with it, not just because I don't like the film but just because this movie took directions and making it a complete mess. When Edward leaves Bella and depart from Forks, he did that to protect her and told her not to do anything reckless and he won't interrupt her what so ever. What does he do? He interrupts her to keeping from trouble and danger. Jeez, you just told her that she can move on without any interference from you. Jesus Christ, why don't you just f**k off? I think you know all the rest of what's going on when it comes to me doing these movies, 'cause this whole saga never ends. The Twilight Saga: New Moon, it sucks, I'm on to the next one, bye. Expand

General improvements over the previous film.

This film was based on a series of "best seller" books about the romance between a vampire and a young human. I never read the books (nor do I intend to) to know what they are like, and I'm willing not to talk about them, but if Edward and Bella's love story was supposed to be epic, something didn't work. Despite this, and just like the first film in this tetralogy, this film was a box office champion, teenagers consumed it well and the studio rubbed its hands in satisfaction.

The plot is easy to summarize. After realizing that Bella was in danger with him, Edward leaves her, wishing she would forget him and live a normal life. But she falls into depression and seeks, by various means, to put herself at risk in the hope that he will appear through visions that she has whenever she is in danger. At the same time, she approaches Jake, who is in love with her and wants to have a chance. It turns out that he also changes: he belongs to a tribe of werewolves and, somehow, it activates and he starts to be able to transform into a giant wolf. From there, the animosity between him and Edward grows, given that vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, and is linked to the competition for the love of young Bella.

Despite the change of director, little changes. Chris Weitz seems more capable as a producer than as a director. The film is going on without us feeling connected to what we are seeing. With the exception of some very concrete scenes, there is no involvement or depth, everything seems futile and a deep and dramatic love, capable of transforming a person's life, ends up just looking like a childish crush. The sudden ending of the film would, I think, have the intention of provoking a "wow effect" in the audience, but in me it only caused the sensation that the final part of the film was cut or eaten.

What I said about the actors in the first film applies perfectly to this one. There were some casting errors that didn't help. Kristen Stewart is a weak actress with no presence or expression, and the same can be said of a dull Robert Pattinson, who seems to be more dead than his character. Both were poor casting choices and the romance between them never convinces by the absolute lack of chemistry. In spite of everything, comparing the two films directly, I think Stewart took advantage of the previous experience and did a better job here, which may be the result of some critical spirit and the ability to face mistakes and try to do better. Better than them, Taylor Lautner is more intense and palatable, and that intensifies a lot here. Together with Billy Burke and Ashley Greene, they are the best interpretations of the film. The Volturi manage to appear cold, calculating and threatening, especially Dakota Fanning, Jamie Campbell Bower and Christopher Heyerdahl. Michael Sheen seems polite, even aristocratic, but he based his character on a thousand stereotypes about European noble vampires and looks like a caricature and not a credible character.

Technically, the film shows improvements compared to the previous one, perhaps the result of a stronger financial investment by the studio. CGI wolves are excellent and are the most striking and interesting visual resource. Alexandre Desplat's soundtrack stood out more and this is worth it because it is one of the best technical notes in tetralogy. Editing and post-production work were poor. Good scenery, props, good large-scale images of cold and cloudy landscapes and a beautiful city of Volterra complete the technical work.

Overall, I feel that this film represents a slight improvement over the previous one. We continue to face a dull story, but the introduction of truly threatening characters and the greater role given to more emotional characters and capable actors gives it a bag of breathable air that its predecessor does not have.

Wait--what? People are upset??
Ahh, what a fickle bunch Twilight fans are. I remember the release of the first film last year, and the incredible backlash from fans of the series--can't even remember the number of comments saying "Stick to the book!" Incredible liberties were taken with the plot (or did we all forget the butchering of the much-beloved meadow scene in the first movie?), and too much of Hardwicke's own film-making style was imposed upon a story that was not hers to fiddle with.

Then New Moon comes out. Obviously, the screenwriter and director went to great lengths to painstakingly recreate the second book in film form, undoubtedly due to the response to Twilight. I am hard-pressed to think of any really pivotal plot points that were excluded from this film (and, no, the flights to and from Italy don't qualify as "pivotal"). But suddenly fans come out in droves to complain on the Internet that the dialogue is cheesy? Hello, have you READ the books? Any actor is going to choke on the ridiculous dialogue that Stephenie Meyer came up with (I doubt even Robert De Niro could sell that tripe). Her dialogue only sounds remotely reasonable on the page. At least this movie didn't include such horrendous lines as "I hated you for making me want you so much"). And people saying it's slow? Again, take a look at the book--the vast majority of the story is devoted to Bella moping over the imaginary hole in her chest. It wasn't exactly an action-packed thrill ride.

I for one thought this movie was a vast improvement over the first, primarily because it stayed so true to the book. And Weitz, unlike Hardwicke, wasn't itching to impose his own style on the story by using crazy camera angles and other weird stylistic elements that were nowhere suggested in the pages of Twilight. New Moon was fittingly glossy and stylistically neutral, appealing to a wider range of tastes. It was filmed beautifully and, to my great relief, had a much wider color palette than the first film.

As for the acting--let's face it, Kristen's never going to be an impressive performer until she realizes that scoffing doesn't qualify as "emoting." And Rob just seems flat-out wrong for this role, but I think he did tap into Edward's inner turmoil better than in Twilight. I thought the performances were, overall, a huge improvement over the first film, especially from Taylor, who fits the sunshiney role of Jacob to a T. The Cullens were, yes, sadly underutilized, but making the movie longer just to give them more screen time isn't going to appease complaints about it being boring and slow as it is.

Hopefully this film will get the credit it deserves after the initial tsunami of unreasonable outrage. It's obvious that the filmmakers are trying incredibly hard to please the fans of the book by staying closer to the text. Here's hoping they don't throw up their hands in frustration upon discovering that loyalty to the book is apparently not good enough either.

Twilight: New Moon, It's such a boring **** movie and I was thinking to myself while I was watching this, I'd rather watch Norm Of The North, lol.

Weitz’s pacing is so limp you’re going to need the electricity generated by a live audience to keep from yelling, “Hurry it up!”

Didn't like it at first because of jacob, and because it was so down and i was watching to get happy and i got even more depressed lol, but now i see it with different eyes. I love this movie. The director nailed it, and the soundtrack is AMAZING, as Robert Pattinson said, it was ahead of it's time. Kristen Stewart's acting was on point. She portraied very well a depressive character. The best characterizarion was in this movie. 10000/10 Expand
