If you've seen any of the other Pink Panther films featuring Peter Sellers, then you'll have a good idea of roughly what to expect. I suppose its somewhat like a pre-Jackie Chan, James Bond parody with extra good doses of slapstick comedy. In a way it looks dated but most of the said slapstick comedy isn't exactly ruined because its a few decades old (it dates from 1976) and I was quite amused and entertained by it. Clouseau is still very much the bumbling bufoon type, with (but of course!) the most grating French accent (or should that be, ackk-zant?!), which made me think of the English policeman character from 'Allo 'Allo, who I imagine was copying the character of Clouseau. All in all it was a funny and entertaining watch that I'd happily recommend.… Expand

This fifth "Pink Panther" film sees Peter Sellers' inspector Clouseau running from the likes of a former ally driven mad by the detective's sheer stupidity. Admittedly, "Strikes Again" had me worried for its entire first half. So many of the gags -- be they physical, verbal, or otherwise --This fifth "Pink Panther" film sees Peter Sellers' inspector Clouseau running from the likes of a former ally driven mad by the detective's sheer stupidity. Admittedly, "Strikes Again" had me worried for its entire first half. So many of the gags -- be they physical, verbal, or otherwise -- were landing that I was truly concerned about how/whether or not the movie was even able to keep it up. My worries came to fruition. Things do fall apart, with the stakes, jokes, and circumstances in the second half ultimately taking an uncharacteristic turn into the realm of a James Body parody. If I wanted to watch the comedic genius of Peter Sellers injected into a Bond flick, I'd rather watch the actual movie he starred in that tried to do this -- 1967's "Casino Royale." Still, it's worthy of a watch, with that first half containing a really nice assortment of classic, true, "Pink-Panther-like" gags. If only they'd stuck the landing, though.… Expand

Another movie in the Pink Panther franchise, and again I feel like nothing new has been added to what we've already seen. In a franchise that has been ruled by ups and downs, and by an inconsistency that doesn't bode well, the film is nonetheless satisfying: it's not excellent, not evenAnother movie in the Pink Panther franchise, and again I feel like nothing new has been added to what we've already seen. The film's biggest problem turns out to be the plot, which is sparse, excessive and very exaggerated. I felt, on more than one occasion, that the film stretches the plot to the maximum, due to lack of content. Everything revolves around a deranged ex-Inspector Dreyfus, who is transformed into a kind of super villain. After creating a kind of "Spectre" (those familiar with the James Bond universe will understand my comparison better), he manufactures a weapon of mass destruction and threatens the entire world, demanding Clouseau's head. Is it exaggerated enough?

Peter Sellers does what he can with what he gets to work with, but I couldn't help but feel that his character is almost a caricature of what we've seen before, and that the actor is underrated and underused. Even more cartoonish and weird, Herbert Lom deserves, however, a praise for the way he took advantage of the madness and exaggeration of the character, turning it into something truly funny.

Technically, the film manages to rival its predecessors in terms of cinematography, sets and costumes, giving us exactly what we were hoping to find. There are no great effects, but what was used has quality and does its job. Music is not far behind and satisfies us without, however, standing out.… Expand
