The first installment in the epic fantasy-adventure trilogy, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is both an enchanting and enriched fantasy picture with a lot of details and intricate plot elements. Following the journey of HobbitThe first installment in the epic fantasy-adventure trilogy, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is both an enchanting and enriched fantasy picture with a lot of details and intricate plot elements. Following the journey of Hobbit Frodo Baggins who travels with 8 other companions on an dangerous quest to destroy the One Ring in Mount Doom so its evil creator Sauron never gets his hold on it. This story capitulated both Tolkien purists and entertainers wanting a thrillride. The movie has an amazing and splendor cast featuring legendary actors like Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Christopher Lee and Sean Bean while also starring Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin amongst many others. Adapting a large novel that was already excellent into a fully fledged fantasy drama masterpiece is not an easy task. But Peter Jackson realized every touch, every visual, every effect, every character moment, every piece of tension and growth creating a lengthy movie that thrills audiences from start till the end. The action is incredible and the movie features both super memorable and super sad moments like Gandalf's confrontation with Durin's Bane (Balrog of Morgoth) to Boromir's untimely death. The movie makes these scenes become a part of you, shape you like a human being, make you feel strong and attached to the situation. Saruman, whose role in the novel wasn't major was suddenly turned into one of the movie's primary villains and it fitted the nature of this film exuberantly. The movie doesn't slow down, it just continued to set-pieces and locations, while also building off conversations and necessary humor into the mold. The movie just works and it just shows how far cinema has transcended throughout the decades. The movie showcases filmaking in its purist form and makes you attached to the story that J.R.R. Tolkien originally crafted. The movie is just a joyride from start to end and definitely one of the best fantasy films ever made and the quinte-essential film of 2001. Expand

Its first volume, like the other two, has earned a colossal success as what it genuinely deserves. It has been nominated as well as acquired numerous sets of awards – proof of its extraordinaire quality, one can say. Nonetheless, it is indeed worth watching, for it is a one-in-a-million obra maestra. As a prime testament, the plot, graphics, cinematography, and the ensemble cast are noteworthy. It transcended the people’s expectations and the “standard.” The storyline is simply phenomenal. And in regard to its visuals, even with small CGI used, it is exceptionally good to the eye, especially with its ably-detailed, well-designed and proficiently-crafted studio backgrounds, props, and wardrobes, not to mention, the real settings. Furthermore, the iconic characters are played by outstanding actors (Elijah Wood as Frodo, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, etc.) which makes the acting and scenes more memorable, and impactful. Besides, it contains good humor, too - from the characters, especially the Dwarf. It is convincing that each one’s individual and group performances connect us to the characters deeper and let us feel all sorts of emotions such as happiness, pain, sorrow, and nostalgia – which is great.
Also, its musical scores bring you excitement, at the same time, tranquility. They’re all “musically complex, with certain themes constantly winding in and out of individual pieces to reinforce motifs and emotion.” (Cummins, 2018) Somehow, we, the audience, are manipulated and unknowingly make us dive into the screen with these serene splashes of sounds – an ideal match in an entertainment. And although this story is fictional, the messages, and the circumstances in the story depict realities in life. As it unfolded, it revealed a lot of lessons that are relevant in our lives. One of them can be reflected in the quote of the character named Gandalf, who said that “All we must decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” It reminds us of how abstract our lives can be in a lifetime. Truly, the movie has always been popular with the general audience, may it be from kids to adults, because it is undeniably a great piece of art. The nuggets of wisdom that could be acquired in this film are tremendous, and watching it multiple times will surely make you say that it never gets old. It is even getting more interesting, in the second time around for one could see more intricate details of the movie that you might have missed before. For me, to put all of it simply, on a scale of 1-10, this film is a perfect one hundred. And if one haven’t watched it yet, what all we can say is “You missed a half-cycle of your life, my precious.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring presents the impossible as a movie in 2001, the CGI comforted my eyes, I didn't believe that this movie was created in 2001!
I have few problems with this movie:
I found the performance poor sometimes.
The story was boring sometimes too.
The direction was most of the times bad, and the slow motion blew it up for me!
The soundtrack didn't comfort my ears most of he time.
That's all for me!
The story was not that powerful, but it was unique, new and cool!
The CGI -AS I SAID- is full of eye-popping special effects!!!!
The journey was completely thrilling and amazing!!!
The action sequence was brilliantly made, and thrilling too!
This movie contains a lot of things that can make easily a great movie.

The movie's got a brilliant plot, it's pretty much about this young hobbit, who's called Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) he ends up finding the one ring that belongs to the Dark Lord Sauron.

So, he begins his journey with eight companions to a place called Mount Doom, this is pretty much the only place where the ring can be destroyed.

The cast are all honestly amazing as their characters throughout this movie and all of the dialogue from the characters feels natural and it doesn't feel forced at all.

Also, the movie's got some beautifully smooth cinematography from Andrew Lesnie. The way he's shot this movie is honestly beautiful and he captures the scenes brilliantly.

The action sequences throughout this movie are very clever, violent and very unique and they're all showcased pretty well throughout this movie.

The movie's even got a beautifully composed score from Howard Shore, it's composed so well and it's such a beautiful soundtrack.

Finally, all of the orcs look very rough and very gruesome throughout this movie but I actually adore the way they look throughout this movie, it really adds to their characters.

Overall, Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring is honestly a masterpiece and a half. It's got a brilliant plot, amazing characters, very good dialogue, beautiful cinematography, very clever and very violent action sequences. The movie's even got some very gruesome looking orcs and a score which is beautifully composed.

I'd honestly recommend this movie, if you enjoy fantasy/action movie's with a brilliant plot, amazing acting, very clever and very unique action sequences. This is the movie for you, it's honestly worth the watch.

Magnificent! A great start to the franchise.

'The Lord of the Rings' is yet another film series that I am incredibly late to viewing, at least I've finally got around to it... albeit almost twenty years on from this film's release.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' is delightful. I never know what to expect from a film that goes on for nearly three hours, the pacing has to be near perfection for it to work - and boy does it here. The run time flew by, which is always a terrific sign.

I love a load of things about this, the one that actually sticks out most is the outstanding score. Music can play a huge part in how much I enjoy a film, so I'm delighted to say that the score is here is fantastic. That is by no means the only positive, obviously.

The cast are excellent. Elijah Wood gives a strong performance in the lead role. I've seen Wood in others things down the years and have actually found him a bit hit-and-miss, but here he is very good. Elsewhere, I really enjoyed watching Viggo Mortensen's character.

Away from those two, there are a whole host of noteworthy cast members. Orlando Bloom, or Will Turner to me, is involved, as are the likes of Ian McKellen and Sean Bean. I also liked Liv Tyler in her role.

The look of the film is spectacular, and has aged extremely well even to this day. Everything from the cinematography to the costumes is brilliant, those two things really make the film come alive - helped by the aforementioned score, of course.

Very eager to check out the sequels, prequels and, eventually, the upcoming television series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy is the greatest trilogy of all time, and all the movies are one of the best films ever made, and that's saying a big thing for movies released in the 2000s. You can simply put any of them on top if you rank the 3 films, and whichever film at the bottom won't actually be last, it's still one of the finest movies ever made. But the first one is the best according to me. From an epic premise, really good costumes and makeup, seamless dialogue of a great script, amazing visual effects and sets along with some of the best camerawork I have seen, this is a stunning movie. The storytelling is fantastic and the epic scope of the film never feels forced. It's also filled with a fine performance by Sir Ian Mckellen and great direction from Peter Jackson. It never really shows a full-scaled battle until the Mines Of Moria more than halfway in, but still manages to engaging and enthralling. When the battle does come, it's handled expertly, with the mix of CGI and practical effects devastatingly efficient. The ending is heart-wrenching, as at the end of 3 hours of sensational viewing, you realize the journey has just begun. This should have also swept the oscars like Return Of The King did. Expand

And that was probably an excellent decision. It has been a year since I have watched these and since the story is distributed among all the three movies, I have decided that I will talk about something unique each of them. In total these movies clock over 10 hours, and I can imagine how much the fans of the book must have loved it when they learnt they are getting so much content from a book they love reading so much.

The Fellowship of the Ring is the very first one of the movies which basically kickstarts the adventure. It is amazing to see how much content this movie has in spite of the fact that the entire backstory was narrated in the first two minutes of the beginning. There are a lot of things to talk about in this. The movie created a font style, a score and a colour palette that fits along with the scenes of the battle that made it look so suspenseful. As the scene was going on I was very attentive to hear everything that happens throughout. And this was just the first two minutes of the 3 hour movie.

Afterwards the scene transitioned to the otherwise peaceful Hobbiton. It was a very interesting transition, that showed how on one hand the races are fighting each other for getting control over the Middle Earth, while on the other hand there are a bunch of peace loving Hobbits who are just into their day to day lives. They always have very wholesome reactions when they see Gandalf, which is the reason why it creates a stark contrast from what is about to happen after they leave Hobbiton. Although Bilbo was a good friend of Gandalf and Gandalf had come all the way to celebrate his birthday, he didn't feel that Bilbo was a trustworthy person because he was also attached to the ring. As a result he decided to send his nephew Frodo, his friend Sam and two other Hobbits to help dispose of the ring.

The ring is something I'd like to talk about here, since in this movie the ring and its effects have been talked about the most. The ring is something that appeals to anyone who has desires, but once it is worn it ends up tormenting the wearer. The subtle message it sends us is the consequence of a moment's greed. Not everyone has the ability to hold their temptation, which is why the Hobbits are specifically sent to dispose of it. Frodo himself has the urge to wear it twice, the reason being that he wanted to save himself. At one moment he wears it accidentally during a bar fight, which makes him see the Eye of Modor and makes him vulnerable. If one is able to get over their desires and focus on what makes their life easy, there will be no need of such temptations. This is what the ring tells us.

And afterwards they go to Rivendell which is simply said, the most beautiful place I have ever seen in any movie! Over there they create The Fellowship of the Ring, which goes to destroy the ring in the lava at the Mountain of Doom. Now I won't get too much into the story since I want to keep this review spoiler-free, so I'm just gonna talk about how beautiful all the scenes from this movie are. Seeing them reminded me of my childhood, reading nursery rhymes and fairy tales. I always looked at the pictures and imagined this is what those places must have looked like. Every location from this movie looks like it could be one of those 19th century paintings. It's amazing to see such places are still left in this world that have not been destroyed as of yet.

The movie, or should I say the trilogy, has really gone hard with the details. They chose to make the maps, the fonts, the detailed lore, all the cities from the Middle Earth and even the easter eggs which added a lot of lore to the movie. Every scene from the movie looks like a painting, which is not something which can be said about most adventure fantasy movies. It has the feeling of an RPG game to it, or at least that's how I feel it. It's something of a Skyrim of all movies. For the fans this must have felt like a dream coming true. Things like these should be made for all fantasy movies, which have begun looking underworked simply because of the existence of this movie.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is not a movie that I may want to watch again because of how long it was and the fact that it is nothing in itself unless the other two parts are also combined, but this is also for a good thing because of the fond memories that this movie has left for me. Personally this was the most memorable movie for me among the trilogy. It was because of how rich and detailed this movie was that gave me the confidence of watching the other two movies as well, something I rarely do otherwise. There are many iconic movies like The Godfather, Jurassic Park and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which I did like, but they didn't give me the courage to continue. This is going to be one of those classical movies that I'd remember for life.

Fellowship provides an exciting start to this adaptation of the classic Tolkien books, even if there is a severe lack of relatable characters.

Where in the world, excuse me, Middle-Earth do I begin to talk about Peter Jackson’s attestation of adapting J.R.R Tolkein’s fantasized novels into a staggering motion picture? We are introduced to an origin story and a wealthy environmentWhere in the world, excuse me, Middle-Earth do I begin to talk about Peter Jackson’s attestation of adapting J.R.R Tolkein’s fantasized novels into a staggering motion picture? We are introduced to an origin story and a wealthy environment known as the home of the hobbits: the Shire. It is homogeneous of the North Pole, where all the residents/ Hobbits are diminutive and humane, visited by the great wizard Gandalf, who is twice their size and a facsimile of Santa Claus who is not always with the Hobbits. Although the Hobbits have no scrutiny in their world or make presents, they work in their homes to grow tillages for the sake of their environment. Concluding Bilbo’s birthday, who is the chairman of the Shire, Gandalf seeks suspicion from a sacred ring that has been in possession of Bilbo for decades.

I often look forward to three-hour films because of the amount of details I can acknowledge, as well as its certitude to keep me busy. However, I feel skeptical about the pacing of films that are this long because the pacing of entertainment makes us want to stay and watch, or walkout midway. Thankfully this entire story is not coalesced into one flick because you would need a whole day off to watch it all in theaters with a five to ten-minute restroom break in between each film. What is tricky about starting a film or a franchise in general is the ability to set it up in a way that is unique for the audience to dig.

Director Peter Jackson was assigned to shoot these films in his hometown of New Zealand and he used its exquisite hilly landscapes to integrate them into his fantasized style of Middle Earth. Jackson’s direction is very thorough that it is like he will make you feel captivated in the alluring film for three hours. He has invited many actors from half a lap around the planet in the United Kingdom to make this gargantuan project as well as the Hollywood veterans Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, and Liv Tyler, who all have very witty English accents. As a build-up chapter in this extraordinary trilogy, there are only two people who can pull off this kind of art: Peter Jackson’s vivid fantasy imagination, and Howard Shore’s godly soundtrack that is near impossible to surpass in terms of reception and makes you feel surrounded by an ambushing patrol ready to put you on thin air.

Peter Jackson,Simply the first few minutes wow me. A less accomplished filmmaker than Peter Jackson would have jumped right into the Party and left the audience hopelessly disoriented because Lord of the Rings is a highly intricate film. Peter Jackson, however, refrained from doing so. He created a fantastic prologue with Cate Blanchett's mesmerising voice that truly provides all the information required. The instant she said, "The world has altered," I thought, I anticipated it would be a treat. Expand

Gimli, Merry & Pippin are all clowns etc. There were some good dramatic locations to film in New Zealand (Switzerland would've been better) but the Shire ended up looking like a plastic tellytubby land. It's entertaining enough as a action movie though, so 7/10 Expand

Too bad that the film in its entirety of its duration is too slow and too poor in events so as to be too long-winded prequel of what will later be the real film, and this is a great shame as the characters are very beautiful and very well presented. , but the whole is suffocated by the extreme slowness with which everything, including things with more action, happens. For heaven's sake the film is very nice and the settings are also breathtaking and this is a great positive note to the whole, even the story is compelling but as the first chapter it is really too slow. Director Peter Jackson's attention to detail, stunning visuals, and remarkable performances from the cast create an immersive and unforgettable journey to Middle-earth.

From the breathtaking landscapes to the intricate costumes and make-up, every aspect of this film is carefully crafted to transport viewers into J.R.R. Tolkien's epic world. The story of Frodo Baggins and his journey to destroy the One Ring is told with such precision and care that it's impossible not to become fully invested in the fate of Middle-earth.

The performances of the cast are simply outstanding, with Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Viggo Mortensen delivering some of the most memorable performances in film history. Howard Shore's score adds an extra layer of emotion to every scene, capturing the grandeur and danger of Middle-earth.

I have watched The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring so many times, and each time I am still captivated by its beauty and power. This is a film that deserves to be seen and cherished by generations to come. It truly deserves a perfect score of 10/10.
