Night Shyamalan would make something this incredibly bad. You know that Shyamalan is intending the movie to be a horror/thriller type of movie, and that is what you would expect, but that is not the case in this film. As many others have stated, the acting truly is laughable, at points similar to acting in movies such as Scary Movie and other parody films. What makes it even more funny is the lines that are used which always seemed like the most obvious lines you could think of. The only thing that came close to keeping me on the edge of my seat was the camera shots throughout the movie that built suspense for me multiple times. Other than that, and overall, the acting was bad, the script was bad, the storyline didn't go anywhere throughout the movie, and the ending didn't give off any second thoughts or any additional thinking (as I saw Shyamalan's Sixth Sense). When it's over, all it seems to be is an unrealistic movie with a plot that never went anywhere and parody-like acting. Expand

Despite the fact the plot sounds so strange (but not impossible if you read a little about what plants can do when they're in danger), and most people I've watched this movie with ended so shocked, this is a movie about love. Call me a complete fool, or idle, but for me this is the most romantic movie ever made. My point is, this is not a love-movie, but shows what love can do. And maybe this is what people are not seeing, that we need more love to get through these rough times. In the end, this is what love is all about: being confused, being mad, sad and happy. That's why love here seems so real! This is a great movie because it grows by itself. Expand

The overall concept wasn't bad as the exposition to a much larger film. However, the second half to this great epic (what happens to mankind after this) never happens. If you were to cut this down to the couple good scenes and add a new ending (which shows more aftermath) and have the actors give better performances (most of these guys are better then that). I don't understand how the dialogue and the acting could have gone so wrong. Didn't they see they could not play their parts well? Wahlberg is IMO an awesome actor, but I guess he can't do drama. I liked Sixth Sense, Signs, and even Unbreakable. But after The Village, Lady in the Water, and now The Happening, Shyamalan has used up the reputation he earned from his good movies. The Happening suffered from terrible dialogue and an idiotic plot. The dialogue made Wahlberg and Leguizamo's characters seem like simpletons.[****SPOILER***] I felt sorry for Wahlberg for having such aweful lines. His performance came across as weak - but this was due to the weakness of the character he played and the silliness of the big villain of the movie - neurotoxin-producing trees! So everyone in the movie is running away from trees that make them kill themselves. Toward the end of the movie, you are more afraid of a cranky old woman who lets Wahlberg and company stay at her house than the killer trees. Forget the trees, just sitting through this movie will make people want to kill themselves. Expand

There can not be any other explanation for Raveesh S.'s comment besides he works for the studio that produced this. Worst movie I have ever seen in theatres.

Fortunately I was to see it, I like it a lot, I didn't heard some "empty" reviews or critics, they are not gods to know what is right, I rather my own opinion and I enjoy it.

M. Night's next movie will be a tribute to how consistently disappointing his movies are. Starring Nicholas Cage, the entirety of the film will be of him standing outside the theater, ticket in hand, ominous expression on his face. M. The worst movie I've ever seen. The only scary thing is how unintentionally funny this movie is. The most disturbing part is in half the scenes you can see the mic dropping down into the top half of the screen. *ITS A $60MILLION DOLLAR The worst movie I've ever seen. The most disturbing part is in half the scenes you can see the mic dropping down into the top half of the screen. *ITS A $60MILLION DOLLAR MOVIE HOW CAN YOU ALLOW THAT.* There is nothing redeeming, Horrible acting, writing, directing, just everything is a disaster. I feel dumber for having seen it. I would rather castrate myself than see this again. Expand

Because there were only two things I liked about it; the incredibly awesome gore, and the hilarious cheesy lines that came out of Wahlberg's mouth. I was pretty much horribly disappointed with everything else. I mean, the concept would be kind of cool I guess, if it was followed through with a wicked twist. Without spoiling, let's just say that M. Night did not deliver his usual set of tricks. Unlike the masterpiece that was "The Sixth Sense", "The Happening" was falling into the stupor where "Mars Attacks" and "Eight Legged Freaks" were left to die... Regardless of who has written/directed this film, don't waste your money and see it. Expand

Am I the only one that got this movie? I thought it was a great spin on the whole "we're killing mother earth". It's an intelligent horror movie which I think is what catches people off. The trailers were excellent at building Am I the only one that got this movie? I thought it was a great spin on the whole "we're killing mother earth". It's an intelligent horror movie which I think is what catches people off. The trailers were excellent at building interest in the "horror" of what ever is happening and then when you go see the movie, you realize it's not monsters or aliens, it's something you have to think about. I really enjoyed it and couldn't believe how many chuckle were built into such a horrifying story. Masterful but not widely received, I guess. I'm still a big M. Night fan though. Expand

The dialogue was predictable and over emphisised, I mean, I know the plot was suspect but the actors dont have to say out loud there every thought.. As for the actors, I dont think we will be seeing the majority of them in any films too soon. Also, the line "I am the same, I dont like to show my emotions" does NOT excuse the god awfull acting.. I mean.. eughgh Rated as a 2 for making me laugh Expand

The plot was alright, but at 11 cents a minute, I expect a little more. With what has to be the slowest end credits, this movie creeps slightly past 90 minutes, but in substance, it is about as long as your average commute. I tally 75 minutes.

I have seen hundred's of scary-suspense movies, many are so bad, but this is so smart that you can take it as a comedy or what it is, a paranoic-scary-suspense movie, find the details, not only go to eat pop corn, jeje.

If you create your own ideas about the movie before see it your mistake will make you blame the movie all the time, actually few people let the things flow expecting surprises and others doesn't enjoy anything.

Agree with Chicago Sun Times : " too thoughtful for the summer action season, but I appreciate the quietly realistic way Shyamalan finds to tell a story about the possible death of man". But in my humble opinion it deserves more than a 75.
