The Idea of an Interdimensional multiverse existing isn't a bad idea however this movie poorly, and I mean POORLY represents how all of that works.

Let me get the goods out of the way, the VFX and other effects are great, but everything else is not good. From what I understand they wanted to tie in the previous films, this is definitely not the way they should have done it. Another great thing about the film is the music, Bear McCreary just knocks it out of the park with the themes.

Now on to the bads, The two plots that are going on at the same time, yeah don't do that, it splits the focus of the film.
Next the Characters and How they act, This is what I call stupid acting, where the characters are logically uneasy to follow.
Not only that, the acting itself is not good, I've definitely seen better in any Sci-Fi Indi film.
Next, the story and plot are mashed up into this generic and predictable mess. The entire film when a certain character pops up I was just predicting on point what was going to happen.
Finally, the paradox, this is not how paradoxes work, this is not how any of that works, the film mentions chaos and unpredictability in a Dimensional Multiverse.

Meaning there are multiple realities stemming from a source reality, there aren't just 2 realities where you can travel to each other, that's not how that works.

Look I'm not a physicist but I am a Computer Scientist, And I understand from years of coding, mathematics and simulations how the natural and unnatural forms of logic can be influenced, changed and implemented, at least in a theoretical manner.
And if that's not enough I've watched enough content that deals with space, time and the effect of gravity on space-time, there's also the internet where any average person on the block can just look up and figure out anything science.

"But the mass and energy were so big that they travelled into another dimension."
Ha, no if that were the case then why are black holes visible, why are stars visible, and why are planets visible and not travelling to different dimensions? Ok, black holes here are the exception, but still what they did wasn't a black hole. I'm not too salty about the science behind it but hey I can deal with a little bit of fictional science if it is implemented well, We've seen StarWars, and I like StarWars.

Anyway, this film was overall disappointing, the cool effects couldn't save it and yeah.
4/10, this movie has holes(Is this a Joke, maybe), and unanswered questions and compared to the previous films it is worse. I didn't expect this at all I expected some chaotic maybe even fictional science(They tried but just really poorly done) to be in this film, instead, it's just not that. All of this does not work or make sense, in the context they wanted it to be in. To me, it is an incomplete film.

I will now search longer for other good Sci-Fi films, do I need to go to another reality for this, maybe in another reality this film is good, or maybe it was bad and was rated good.
I don't know. I'll see what happens.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I haven't seen the other Cloverfield movies, that doesn't excuse a lot of this movie's problems. If it wasn't for certain moments with Ava (who is the only one of the crew that is useful for something in the plot) or Mina Jensen's surprise betrayal, I would give it much less than a 4, since everything in this movie doesn't make sense, there are a lot of things that are not explained or that happen when the writers are more convenient. A supposed energy crisis despite the fact that at the beginning of the movie it didn't seem like it, a monster that comes out of nowhere at the end, objects that move in the spaceship as if it were possessed, and many overacting of the protagonists.
Very poorly made and on top of that generic, not recommended.

Abrams, The Cloverfield Paradox is about as tasteful as a loaf of stale bread. Haphazardly struggling to cover the film's Lack of depth, lack of logic and shallow character design through unnecessarily abundant use of CGI that does little to have the viewer wonder about the "technologies of the future". Also, significant effort has been put to marketing this film towards Asia, even going the length of including a character that replies to others' English lines exclusively in Mandarin. Better spend your time with a film that doesn't try so very hard to appeal to all the masses out there. Expand

Paradox has its moments, going back and forth between two stages and keeping the audience guessing of their interconnectivity. At the end, we get well... nothing out of it. Some "ooh ahh" moments surrounded with mediocrity.

Cloverfield Paradox (2018): This movie is really, really bad. Things just happen for seemingly no reason, and nothing makes any sense. I can't say much more about such an unenjoyably dumb movie other than that the plot is really messy.

But, you have to pay attention in this one or you'll miss important details! It DOES explain the other movies. In my opinion, the frequent poor reviews stem from the viewer's ignorance about particle accelerators, lack of attention to details, and inability to see this movie as science fiction. It was easy to miss dialog that was important to understanding the movie. Don't be embarrassed to turn on captioning. It helps! I use it for every movie I watch.

I'm not sure why critics do not understand the tie-ins to the previous movies. The writer clearly states that the particle accelerator is 1000x more powerful than any ever built. Not 2x, not 100x. My point being, the writer created the perfect basis for chaos being unleashed ... including chaos in time ... which is even mentioned as a potential side-effect in the movie. If you can't accept that, which I'm not saying that's what happened, you're not accepting that you're watching a sci-fi movie--and you're still trying make it fit within your understanding of particle accelerators today.

Another criticism I've seen is that the astronauts/scientists (or whatever they were called) were too immature and acting irrationally to be on a space station. Again, I don't think the critics are paying close enough attention to what is actually going on in the movie and are still trying to compare it to the way they understand the world today. Things were desperate on Earth ... and they were also running out of time. Countries were at each other's throats and looking out for their own interests. So, you can expect that these scientists (representing those countries) might be as well.

I like seeing things I've never seen before in movies. You'll see some of that.

Loved the soundtrack too. Intense!

Then astronauts,  from different places in the world, go for a mission in space looking foward to make a strong machine work and then give humanity energy to keep living again. And doing that they just end up in another dimension. Directed by Julius Onah and written by Oren Uziel.
So let's start with what is good about the story, wich is the idea, the whole idea is very nice, the characters traveling to another dimension unintentionally and finding out that are versions of themselves and in different conditions are really nice, and the consequence of this broke of time and space being the reason of the creation of monsters, wich we see in other movies from the franchise, the fact that this makes any other creative situations with monsters in any historical moment, not mattering space or time is really good. The justification for the story isn't the worst thing, lack of energy and something so strong to be done on earth can produce more and save people's life, isn't bad, but isn't very good neither, the main thing was to see how that was going to go, the storytelling in this film is really that bad, wich implies to make the audience bored, because there isn't much moments where i got enthusiastic watching this, the story isn't fun, the happenings overall aren't interesting, so all of this helps to make this a bad movie, is the essential. One really bad thing about this film is that all the time they are saying to eachother to go fix that, go do that, arrange this, and sometimes you actually see them doing these things, but it doesn't matter, just never, is all the damn time, you just don't know what they are fixing or doing with tools and all the time we see them using things, a lot of things happen when they are doing those and you just don't get it, i was just like: "but what was he even doing there". There are so many plot holes, that i really got stressed in some moments, i got that the dimensions colapsing and that is the paradox, so strange things happens, that is cool but i think that they went to far in a level that this movie isn't the kind of to do that, like, i'm ok with an arm moving alone, but how in the world and why, a arm would know that a compass would be in the stomach of another guy, that is nonsense in a way that this is not the kind of film to have it, it is nice that everything is strange, people are appearing out of nowhere and they know the others, but there somethings that just didn't fit. More towards the end there are some characters that do somethings really nonsense, i mean, it first makes a decision, and 5 minutes later it completely changes the decision with absolutely nothing being different, the 3rd act of this film have so many flaws that what could have saved the movie in some point, with at least some nice scenes really just made it worst for me. There are some nice scenes, right after they lost Earth and they not sure what is happening, that is nice, imagine that you are orbiting the planet and for one time to another you just completely lost it and have no idea where is it anymore, here is a nice agony, and the things that start happening after it, some work, some doens't, but the true is that it is nice to see strange things going on. About the dimension situation the thing about Ava character is really nice, where in one dimension one bad thing have happened and in the other one the problem is not there, so the fight for stay there or not it is nice.
The chemistry between the characters, until some point it is fine, but it got way to whatever. Gugu mbatha-raw overall don't really do a much different or stable thing, but there is a monologue towards the end and some tears in other moments that were really nice. Elizabeth Debicki have some moments in this film that works, her doubt face in some moments is fine, but in other her misunderstanding weren't really convincing, i don't know if that was directing or she, but wasn't good. All the others are just functional, there weren't really much moments for each other.
The cinematography really don't mean much, there are some lights in some moments, some use of cameras, but really nothing very special neither inside or outside the station. The soundtrack is ok, but still no big deal neither.
Cloverfield Paradox is a film with a very interesting idea, but poorly executed, a story that got interesting during some minutes, but because so many plot holes and a 3rd act with not much coherence, this is self sabotaging.

The series I started with the cloverfield movie is now over, I honestly say it was the worst movie in the series of three movies, even worse in the others.
The most interesting series I've seen because they are different from each other in the three movies and merge them together with only small pieces.

I would like to pass on the cloverfield paradox.Actually the movie was very smooth and enjoying the viewing(my most positive thoughts about the movie)
:):)

but it was a lot of ridiculous things, and certainly some events were no longer logical or even impossible for me, so I decided that it was a very ridiculous movie because there were more than one. There were a lot of things that I did not have in my mind I really wondered about some of the events.

I liked it very much in the previous 2 movies but unfortunately I did not like it Movies were good but it was ridiculous, unreasonable and unrealistic I could not write a lot of comments about this movie because I tried to understand the events in many minutes and I always thought in my head that such a thing could be real.
The last scene went well

I did not like this movie but if it comes to the sequel, I run to the cinema and watch it because it is a very valuable series.

Its literally running out of energy and once this happens everyone will die except... if we dont make the Mcguffin particle work. This is literally the whole movie premise. So lazy that my 11 year old nephew can write one better. We have a massive space station with artificial gravity and rooms 5 times bigger than my whole apartment but we are running out of energy. This is just a lazy movie made for money no reason to watch it as it has little to no cinematic value. Expand

They didn't have to worry about losing any money on a film that was rumored to not be that great, and instead they made a guaranteed profit, albeit a small one, from it. Netflix knew exactly what they wanted to do with it, too, as they had a commercial during the Super Bowl that said the film would be on Netflix right after the game. So I bet they got a lot of people to watch it, at least way more than who would have seen it in the theaters. So I watched it, of course, and it's by far the worst film in the franchise. It almost feels like that this was originally a B-level sci-fi movie and they decided to make it into a Cloverfield movie towards the end of production. There's a scene towards the beginning of the movie, that seems pretty shoehorned in, that is the primary tie to the Cloverfield universe. Take that scene out, and the only indicator that this is a Cloverfield movie is the very last scene of the movie (which I won't spoil here). Of course, that could also be said about 10 Cloverfield Lane, but this ain't no 10 Cloverfield Lane. The characters aren't particularly interesting or engaging, and there are a lot of story elements throughout the movie that genuinely do not make sense and are never explained. The story itself had potential, but it never really took off and became the enthralling sci-fi story it could have. There's also some very sloppy editing at times, and I'm pretty sure I shook my head once or twice. But still, despite all of that, the movie is watchable. You're not going to be checking the time every five minutes or feel like completely exiting out of the movie. To me, it's the equivalent of a mediocre episode of Black Mirror. It's not absolutely terrible, but it's not going to impress you, either. Expand

First on how I judge movies, if I enjoy them at least purely from entertainment point I vote 7, if I am indifferent about them 5 and intra/extrapolete the rest yourself.

This movie I enjoyed solely on the grounds of how bizarre and unpredictable it is. It has the production value, looks and feels of A movie, but ... plot is not the word I am looking for, because for plot you need at least somewhat linear narrative, but that is not what is happening here. But again that is not necessarily bad. This movie reminds me of life. Not the movie Life, actual life.
There is a plan right, you want to accomplish something. And you do your best, but then life happens and the "plot" of your life shifts, it no longer follows the original plan, but still it progresses, and then another thing happens and another and another. Suddenly you have to be reminded of what was original plan because you are dealing with something else entirely.

This is the feel I got from this movie. Sometimes funny, (hilarious even thank you Chris O'Dowd), sometimes drama (thanks Daniel Brühl) and sometimes borderline psychological horror. It is not focused enough to be a fluid movie experience but in my opinion it is still worth the look.

So I put it aside for a while, until this saturday when I was bored as hell and I wanted to watch a entertaining Sci-fi movie, thinking; 'How bad can this really be?' Turns out, this movie is not as bad as people say. Sure, it's not 2001 or Alien, but it was fun! It was escapism to the max. The movie might as well been on the Sci-fi channel, if not for the cool, and somewhat derivative, set and costume design. I also liked the CGI in this one, or it didn't bother me. Writing and acting was entertaining, aside from some weirdly placed humor moments. If you go in expecting something great, you will be disappointed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It baffles me why all those professional critics who call this movie a nonsense don't hold a star wars or superhero nonsense to the same standard? To any hard core scifi fan this movie is not too bad attempt to tackle really hard questions regarding a real nature of our world, that is to large extend still a big unknown. This is what collision of parallel universes should be like - chaotic, incomprehensible, sometimes even comical. The time - past, present and future shouldn't make sense anymore and causality is abandoned. This is the world the physicist see and kudos to anyone who tries to convey that incomprehensible reality in a blockbuster movie. Overall the movie is, like modern physics, grossly misunderstood, so if you're a hard core scifi fan and know who Assimov, Lem, Le Guin are, you should give it a go, and don't mind pro critics who can't handle anything that doesn't play games or pays homage to their predefined and static ideas of genres and subgenres. Throw out casuality, throw in space-time continuum and they're all lost. Just like a good sci fi literature it presents interesting moral dilemmas, like should I choose a better path of parallel reality, should I interfere with it. It creates great causality mess out of two engineers who are their own replacements in different realities but have to handle the consequences of their personal collision plus parallel existence on earth as younger version of self. It reminds me one of the short stories from Lem's Star Diaries, where Ijon Tichy gets trapped with his ship into time loop and tries to repair it getting a hand from different version of himself. Overall the movie is not a 10/10, it has too many ideas thrown in and they're not all being developed as they could, a few loose ends but is still a very enjoyable experience and a solid scifi. I was so excited when I found out I was going to be able to watch it right after the game. That excitement turned to confusion after I finished the movie. It almost feels like two different movies. One of them I like, the other I don’t. The Acting, the Direction, the score, all of the individual aspects of this movie are great. However, the finished product is a messy, confusing film that almost entirely destroys the Cloverfield continuity. It’s honestly really crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that has so many great aspects, but has no idea how to put them together. A disappointing, but enjoyable film. Expand

The first two installments were incredibly chilling and so well choreographed that it would leave its mark on the suspense genre. This film, however, was such a ridiculous outlier that disregarded any legacy that it was hoping to build up. Expect a few twists to leave you confused, but the bad yet predictable writing will relieve your mind of thinking at all. While the acting is satisfactory in this film, there is hardly any element to make this film uniquely cinematic. The problem with this movie is the lack of effort and the typical path that most effortless movies have gone down to. It does not help that the speculation around the monsters and creatures in this universe are only clouded with more questions. Questions that we're supposed to find the answer to in another obsure prequel with an even more obscure premise. In short, this movie is nothing special. Just like any other Netflix film, it tends to bore you with nothing left for thought. Expand

WhileJust like everyone's been saying, The Cloverfield Paradox is definitely the weakest of the Cloverfield trilogy falling far short of the excellent first two films. Not terrible, just weak. It doesn't feel like a Cloverfield film either. While the past two movies differed significantly in their plots, they did match in tone with their combination of suspense, horror, and some comedy. This film feels like it was trying to too hard to be Black Mirror. Seriously, the film has a very produced by the BBC or another British channel feel to it. When they used the Cloverfield font for the opening credits, tonally it feels completely alien to what is on screen. The biggest weakness is the plotting. The exposition, why they are up in the space ship trying to create the God Particle, the risks of the Particle, the energy crisis back on Earth, and the character introductions, go by super quickly without any one getting a firm grip on what's going on. Things settle down and become more manageable once the major threat occurs on the ship, but even then when they try to scientifically explain what's going on or how to stop it, it's not the easiest to swallow.

A major mistake of this film was to try to tie into the plot of the first Cloverfield movie. 10 Cloverfield Lane didn't tie in and it didn't need to. I so wish it was the same here. The entire subplot takes place on Earth away from the space station and feels like an entirely different movie. It is dull and aimless. It doesn't help that it follows the husband character, who's the most boring of the cast.

On the plus side, the film does creepy weird stuff very well. When the s--- hits the fan, is when I started being entertained. The other strong part is the story of the main character, Hamilton. It is the only fully-fleshed part of the film. Hamilton is a relate-able woman with a tragic past. You emphasize with her and understand her actions. Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays the part wonderfully.

The other characters don't play so well. They're sort-of one-dimensional with very weak dialogue. The acting isn't much better. Thing is I don't blame the actors. Almost the entirety of the cast, are well-accomplished. I'm personally a fan of Steve Bruhl. The fact that none of them can deliver speaks on the direction. There is one joke involving Kansas. The joke of itself was funny, but the way it was delivered was poorly done that it robbed the joke of all humor.

The set design of the spaceship is distinctive and eye-catching. I especially like the exterior, which is something I haven't seen before. The inside of the ship can be a bit busy visually, though. Makes it hard to focus sometimes.

I really liked the end credits theme, which is from the same guy who did the theme for 10 Cloverfield Lane. The only part that feels like the previous movies, this instrumental continues the tradition of bombastic moodiness.

Again, I wouldn't say this is a bad film. Heck, I could watch it again sometime off in the future. It is just disappointing. The Cloverfield Paradox is one of those films that comes so close to being a good film. Where you can clearly see what could have been fixed. Beneath a weakly directed film is a unique story trying to get out.

While The Cloverfield paradox throws around some interesting ideas, it is sadly a below average sci-fi. Set on a doomed international space station, TCP fails to commit fully to its dramatic, scientific or horror elements instead existing somewhere in between it all feeling hollow as a result. Had it not had the cloverfield attachment I might have expected less going in.

As a movie that exists to explain the first Cloverfield, this is merely serviceable. But the themes it deals with, the plot, and the characters are all why I'm here. Without getting too heavily into spoilers, there are similarities to Alien where most of the action takes place on a space station. But the movie goes beyond being simply a space monster flick and deals more in shades of grey than I first expected it to. It's tempting to view the actions of certain characters as evil, but all of the motivations are believable and things play out in a really cool way. Also, how cool is it that this was announced and released on the same day? I didn't even have to get up from the couch after #TheBigGame. Except to pee. Anyway, I'd recommend this to fans of sci-fi. It's less horror than the previous movie so don't expect a ton of scares, or for the filmmakers to answer all the questions you have about the larger fictional universe/multiverse. Expand

so of course there are a lot of universes with an earth with total different inhabitants. (the "monsters" from movie one and the "aliens" from movie two)
due to the shepard several universes crashed together and many things are drawing together resulting in the strange things happening at the space station. (and on earth as you can see in the other 2 movies)
its impossible for a human to foreknow all possibilities happening in different universes so they just refer to it as chaos because of the human disability to understand it. but of course its not chaos, if you could see all the other universes and their parameters, everything would make totally sense, but they dont show you that on the movie.
so people are confused. and rate this a bad movie. but its not.
i would like to explain everything a little bit more detailed but im not a native english speaker, sorry.

The acting ranges from great to just okay, with the standout being Gugu Mbatha-Raw, but that is because she has the most material to work with, everyone else is basically a stock horror cliché when it comes with close containment horror like the Mist, the Thing, and the first Alien film. But that would imply that this movie is scary at all. It does have scares, stock scares, but instead it is just a jumbled film that shifts between different story elements while also connecting to the previous films within the Cloverfield films. From stock horror tropes, to sci-fi thriller, to the "levity" that comes from a misplaced Chris O'Dowd, the movie has no idea what it wants to be and devolves into a tepid slog of different narrative elements that are crammed into one horrid Frankenstein monster with expendable characters that you don't really care much about. The production design is pretty great, but that doesn't save a sloppy script. Expand

This is a steaming heap of garbage from the self cognizant arm to the ludicrous conclusions which characters come to based off of seemingly nothing other than ruminating about things while locked in a soundproof medical exam room with only glass walls. Why does an electrically activated sealant foam react to magnetic fluctuations by reaching out and grabbing someone? Where did all that water come from and why did it wind up where it did? This film simply does not know what it is, other than fundamentally stupid. Is it a supernatural horror? Is it a sci-fi horror? Is it a comedy? Don't care anymore, it certainly didn't start as a Cloverfield production. Expand

That being said I give this movie a 6 out of 10. It felt like a B movie that hired a lot of well-known actors, not a total waste of time but something I might be upset if I paid money to see in theater. Luckily for me this was a Netflix exclusive so it was a nice little bonus film for having the service. For me this was the weakest entry in the Cloverfield franchise, the film was clearly piggy backing off the success of the previous films without bringing much new to the table. I did like the space setting and the actors worked well with the scripts they had, though they did fall prey to the familiar horror movie tropes. You would think the greatest minds in the world would be a bit more informed on space time theories and paradoxes. It did have a nice little connection to the other films and somewhat offered a vague explanation to the origins of the previous films. If you have Netflix and want a sci fi film to pass the time on a day off, then give it a shot. Just remember, you might be a little let down If you are expecting the same quality as the 1st and 2nd Cloverfield movies. Expand

The comedy can often be odd and feel out of place while taking a lot from a certain classic cult horror movie, but it succeeds in breaking up the excessive drama and tension. I enjoyed this film and found it really fun to watch. Not the sort of film everyone would like but it has something special that no other film has.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Cloverfield Paradox is a good space thriller but a very average Cloverfield film. The cast does a phenomenal job with what they are given which helps elevate this movie past the ok script. I feel like there are some sections that were added in after the fact to help "connect" this to the other Cloverfield movies. However, it seems like this film has made the timelines even more confusing given the introduction of multiple universes. It is cool to see the Cloverfield monster (or monsters) but that doesn't make this movie great. While this movie is a little disappointing, I'm still interested where they go with this franchise. While i understand peoples reservations about the split story being a little one sided and the logic for what is trying to be a really smart film being a little flawed its probably worth remembering that both of the other films werent exactly set in scientific fact, its just more obvious as this film tries to be smarter.

Overall if you are a scifi fan you should enjoy this film. Great nod to Alien and Event.

However, for the love of all that is true and good, the critics are right. Please DO NOT waste 2 hours of your life watching this movie. You will NEVER get them back. You’ve been warned.

This movie has nothing to do with any of the other Cloverfield films and is a fraudulent cash grab rebranding a generic Paramount science fiction film The God Particle, as a Cloverfield film and having Netflix purchase and stream this film as a Netflix original.

We need Mueller off the Russian investigation and onto this travesty ASAP!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I have to be honest up front, I would have scored this movie 4/10 but I have to knock 2 points off which I would explain in a bit but lets cover the actual movie. (and yes there be spoilers ahead, lots of spoilers actually)

The principle of the movie has at heart quite an interesting idea but not novel, it's yet another energy mguffin causing a tear to another reality / dimension (so far so much like Killswitch and about a dozen other movies in the last few years.)
Script is meh, acting is passible and the SFX's do their job, the main problem is it works very hard to hit all the typical sci-fi / horror tropes but never actually has the guts to properly deliver and in the process gets itself wound up into a muddled mess where the only "character" who actually has a clue how to fix stuff is a guys disemboded arm (not that it's ever explained how it knows what it knows or even how it stays animated) It's all very by the numbers just without a payoff (keeping it PG like those movies with bloodless swords etc) It's like the writer(s?) literally wrote this thing by trawling TV tropes. The "tinfoil hat guy who's right", This thing needs the keys turning at the same time (for no reason), The x times we have done this to fine another way that doesn't work (Chain reaction, also about energy sources), There's "the infected" (see Promethious), Solid objects sucking people in, Animated body parts, The (not)Gruesome Autopsy, an airlock malfunction (okay this one was a least somewhat original, mostly because for reasons best known to the whoever wrote this garbage, the airlock in question pumps water not oxygen), The tools / structure comes alive and has tendrils to suck in a chacter, we have the deception to pull a heroic sacrifice off to save the ship and the sucked out of the window / porthole. And yet ALL these ideas are done better in other movies with much better delivery and pay off.
So yeah this movie would be another run of the mill flick that doesn't set the world alight but it's worst crime is simply they have very obviously gone back and filmed scenes with the leading actresses screen husband and set them around the original cloverfield (with nod to 10CFL) to try and tie it into the cloververse (and it's painfully obvious and badly done because of the utter absence of this in the scenes set on the station) so yet again they are just using the cloverfield name as a sticking plaster onto unrelated movies because they don't feel they are strong enough to stand on it's own merits.

I wanted so badly for this to be amazing and I really wanted to like it. As the movie went on, I kept telling myself that I like it... but then it ended.

What does this movie have to do with anything... let alone the Cloverfield universe?? Honestly. What does the space station situation have anything to do with the Godzilla conflict that is going on in the previous two movies? What answers do we get that bring us closer to what questions the first movie so ingeniously raised??

Where does the franchise go from here? The second movie, at least, gave us a different perspective that relates to the first movie's cause. This didn't feel anything like a Cloverfield movie. It felt more like a dysfunctional Alien/Life wannabe. A total of 10 minutes of this movie actually have anything to do with the creature that is reeking havock down on earth. Even if this wasn't a Cloverfield movie and was just a science fiction movie, there are so many questions left unanswered. Why does everyone know about the "Paradox" phenomenon, but we are left in the dark? What does the arm have to do with anything? How did certain parts end up in a certain person's body?

Even when the characters are pitching their solutions to solve the problems, none of it makes sense and that they are just pulling crap out of their a**es, while everyone stands in a circle pretending to agree and know what to do next.

This is the most jumbled movie I think I have ever seen. The only reason for the 2 score is primarily for Chris O'dowd's performance and humor, along with the ambiance of the film. They set the tone right but never executed... and again, what in the hell does this have to do whth Cloverfield??

If there is something too obvious when you finish this movie, it's that it was far from being part of Cloverfield's anthology and that is quite clear when the events begin to unfold.

The Cloverfield Paradox cannot help feeling like two different films, probably the fact that the decision to add it to the Cloverfield universe was taken during the filming had a lot to do with it.

The narrative in general is too confusing and the little development that is allowed to the story and the characters is too poor, of all the actors despite being a certainly recognized cast, only Gugu Mbatha-Raw has a dramatic and emotional weight in the plot .
The editing only confuses more and being honest if they had really given more treatment to the script they could have created something more interesting, flashy and dynamic, because the story lent itself to it, it's true that the narrative resource of a dimensional rupture might seem too cliché within the field of Sci-Fi but here there were enough arguments to make it better, especially because of the enormous cult the original movie created and all the questions that left unanswered.

The Cloverfield Paradox apparently ends up giving an origin to the creature of the original film and the ending gives enough material to believe two possible things: or the original creature is still alive or that monster is the mother of that creature and let's say that's why this film will get a lot more validation from the fans.

Unquestionably and ironically the biggest flaw of the film ends up being its connection with the Cloverfield universe because obviously all of it feels forced, like an argumentative and narrative crutch, therefore the film never flows as it should and the real and more interesting mystery gets completely forgotten.

I don't consider it a disappointment, but frankly what it offered did not come anywhere near expectations much less the hype that was unleashed by its unconventional release. It certainly works for Netflix because of the exclusivity but I really hope that if Abrams plans to continue with this, as it seems to indicate Cloverfield: Overlord arriving in October, I hope better stories and honestly he should avoid continuing to give such crumbs of information, because it will work a few times but at that rate the audiences will get fed up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The science in this movie just does not make any sense. It is not just bad it is completely wrong and annoyingly so. Spacestation breaks appart and stuff keeps spinning around it even though it is not attached to anything. Hatchdoor breaks and water and body freezes instantly. Gravity looks like to be sometimes present and sometimes not, depending on convenience. Hand from other universe can move by itself and can hear and see apparently as well without being attached to anything. Guy looses arm and is like "oh-well-whatever". People use too much energy on earth and fight war about the energy. Then instead of building more tried and trusted renewable energy sources, they build giant expensive space station based on untested physical theory with only enough energy for 5 or so tries and hope for the best. Meanwhile on earth everyone continues driving cars and using cell phones and fancy computers with buttons built into the desk and what-not and sparkly lights. Looks like there is no energy crisis going on whatsoever. The monsters or whatever that only appear like 2 seconds in the end of the movie are not explained. The parallel-universe story that is going on in the movie could explain that they come from the other universe, but even though the spacestation seems to suddenly have all the data from said universe (even though having been transported there from the regular universe) does not list anything about those monsters being there. Also the character from the other universe does not say anything about it. Apparrently you need a hyper-expensive gyroscope to just make a simple position analysis using known constellations. Apparently particle collisions can create deamons if one is to believe some guy they show in the tv. Also saying the particle accellerator is 1000x stronger than any ever built is kind of a lame comparison in terms of the scale involved in the energies of particle physics. Also the movie sucks. Not sure what's up with the poor critic score, but the so-called "critics" have discredited themselves before numerous times, so whatever.

From the pros - it has a nicely convoluted sci-fi plot; good suspense; overall decent acting and some nice references to the first Cloverfield movie.

As for the cons, the main one is that the movie drops the bar towards its end. The tenseness and intrigue die down, and most of the characters start doing increasingly dumb things, especially the "British" woman. She, while being given the most screen time, is the most annoying character of all with uneven acting and unconvincing family drama. Also, you can tell that the scenes on Earth were added later in production mainly to tie the movie to the "Cloververse", as they're largely redundant and don't add much to the plot.

So, while it could have been better, the Cloverfield Paradox is still quite good and it's a neat surprise that it has come out out on the same day as the trailer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite it's shock value, and the strength of it's franchise, Paradox is a car crash of poor performance, poor script and poor delivery. Very little of it makes sense and despite several points where it tries it's best almost everything falls flat. Chris O'Dowd takes the gong for best line when forced to confront the plot itself in the form of his on severed arm writing out a message on the floor. Only for that little gem to never be explained either. Miss it, you're better off just not knowing. Expand

This made me especially eager, given what a huge fan I am of the Cloverfield films and their ever-so secretive marketing, as well as the numerous delays and release date changes this third installment has suffered. Well, all that and the fact that this went to Netflix rather than be distributed to theaters via Paramount like the previous two films were should've been some red flags for me from the get go, cause while this managed to be entertaining and intriguing often times, it was a bit of a disappointment on all other fronts, especially in relation to it's connection to the Cloverfield anthology. While it did partially succeed in somewhat cleverly bridging a few gaps between the other films here and there, the rest of it felt like simply a jumbled and confusing mess. The talented cast (consisting of Daniel Bruhl, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris O'Dowd to name a few) made do with what they were given to work with, cause to be fair to them, they did this film before it was reworked into a Cloverfield film, much like how the previous film 10 Cloverfield Lane was made. And not to spoil too much, but also much like 10 Cloverfield Lane, really the only connection to Cloverfield that this film had didn't really occur until the very end, and even that ended up being rather ridiculous and quite literally last-minute. Overall, it's simply fine when looked at as a sci-fi adventure film, but those looking for deeper and further connections into Cloverfield kinda like I was would really be getting their hopes up. Definitely the weakest link yet in this so-called connected anthology of Cloverfield films yet. Expand
