The Bourne Legacy really is a disappointment compared to the trilogy it followed. The story didn't make sense, it jumped from one plot to another, and was a sorry excuse for a Bourne movie. No wonder Matt didn't sign on for this one.

The Bourne Legacy works only through Jeremy Renner's work as Aaron Cross. Otherwise, it is a failed attempt at imitating it's much better predecessors.

The biggest mystery and suspense around "The Bourne Legacy" comes from good advertisement. The actors are good though, especially the leading performers Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Renner. But it's well known that good actors don't replace good screenplay. Expand

Good action. Unnecessary extended. At least he gets the girl at the end. Useless scenes. Norton reduced to that role? Not good. Easy ending and resolving. Its not the same without Damon

Renner takes Damon's attempt at an action hero and does it 10x better. You don't need to suspend belief to imagine Renner as a gruff operative which makes a fresh change from Damon as the "Deer in the Headlights" we've seen in the previous films.
The story was full of intrigue and the slow boil which was the first act was a much need change from the Damon lead cartoons we've had before.

Best bourne movie yet. Not as much action in this one but the storyline was creative and renner's performance was much better than Matt Damon's in the first three.

Here comes the spin -off of Bourne where is Jeremy Renner, rather cocky , but the movie was a bit boring , but fixed in the action scenes , as the creators of Bourne have that .

Matt Damon is certainly missed, but Renner proves more than capable of carrying the film on his own. The plot is intriguing and action packed, and Tony Gilroy writes and directs the film very well. This movie isn't all that bad, bit it isn't really a good movie either. While Jeremy Renner does great in taking over Matt Damon for the lead role, the movie itself is a disappointment .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie, in my opinion, was fantastic!! The main character, played excellently by Jeremy Renner-- WOW.! I had read and heard more negative reviews than positive. When it was shown on TV, I was not expecting much. I do not understand all the negative stuff and the critics blah, blah, blah.! Rachel Weisz, great actress, is wonderful again. Ed Norton--he is fantastic. I bought this movie after viewing twice in a row. Yes, Matt Damon, is so fantastic in all the other "Bourne" movies--he is just an excellent actor. It is my belief that too many Matt Damon fans could not and/or would not like any other actor in this series. Reading the previous reviews sort of upset me, but I feel that people are allowed their own opinions. Yet, now that the new Matt Damon "Bourne" movie is due out soon, the ugly comments about the one "Bourne" movie not starring him are out a lot again----- I just had to put in my two cents worth ( even knowing that I may get a lot of flack about it). The main character (Renner) starts out strong in the beginning of the film and stays that way thru the end. Of course he is looking for the meds he needs to keep from reverting and worsening in his intelligence IQ. Remember that he started out at the way sub-par level. Think how you would feel knowing that your IQ would drop to idiot levels---SCARY!! Also, the female super scientist (Weisz) has dedicated her life and career to this project that will bring her not fame nor fortune. Now the powers that be (Norton), want her dead, dead, dead!! Geesh, people go with the intense flow here. The chase scene was a tad long but NOT boring. The end was cute--the two find a personnel connection--yehhhh. The first "Bourne" movie ended with the two main characters having a really nice togetherness too. Who knew if there would be another movie.? Yes, the second one was intense too but with his love dying like she did, well it was just sad and depressing. Kill her off, why not have her get seriously injured and forget her relationship with Jason??! Then he has to let her go to live a safer life. At least she would be alive. Far too many movies and TV shows have the love interest be killed off.?! Each of the "Bourne" movies need to be viewed oft times, then you can pick up more of the things you may have missed. Movie ticket sales help determine what movies may get a sequel. Yet the movie theaters have not figured out what may be contributing to the reduced sales. Most theaters that I have been to over the last decade or two, have the room temps at sub-zero, do not ask rude people to leave if they text or talk thru most of the viewing, allow parents with rude behaving kids to act up, do not try to be sure that people with disabilities are allowed to be seated first, the sound to be painfully loud for loud scenes and music and then drops to hard to hear for conversation, etc. In short, the "fun" and enjoyment of seeing a new movie "on-the-big-screen" is not all that great to go to anymore. Why state this here??? Here is hoping these troublesome issues are taken care of so more people will buy tickets to see movies like this and then the profits will be much better on more movies. Again, this movie is so much more enjoyable than many have led you to believe. I have watched this movie several times and always enjoy it. I hope that you will view it with an open mind, it may surprise you in a good way. Expand

Producing the Bourne Legacy was Universal's decision, apart from Damon and Greengrass, and it has been labeled a spin-off, which I don't believe for a second. The idea of turning Bourne into a 007-type was interesting, especially because the two franchises would have striking differences, like the sense of a loss of identity, and rogue isolation from the government. Plus, Renner pulled me in to the story line within the first 30 minutes, and I got over my initial disappointment. Expand

The only Bourne movie I didn't like. I enjoyed it towards the end because it had action, unlike the rest. The first hour or so is him in a cabin in the forest, very boring. It wasn't good.

Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), one of Outcome's six agents, and research scientist Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz) go on the run when Byer targets them for termination. But Cross proves to be a far deadlier target than Byer realizes. It isn't quite as compelling as the earlier trilogy, but The Bourne Legacy proves the franchise has stories left to tell -- and benefits from Jeremy Renner's magnetic work in the starring role. It would be nice if it wasn't a movie from the “Bourne” franchise.

After three good films, the “Bourne” franchise seems to be laid on solid foundations, and the success of the following films seems assured. In fact, franchises like that turn into money-making machines for the studios… but what I found in this film is something capable of disappointing the most ardent fan of the franchise: it's a “Bourne” movie without Jason Bourne.

In fact, the script focuses entirely on Aaron Cross, a completely new and unknown character to us, whose journey as a CIA operative seems to start with "Outcome", another top secret agency program specializing in the modification of psychology and behaviors through certain drugs. When the program is discontinued by higher order and everyone involved is murdered, Cross does what he can to escape and save his life.

The movie isn't really that bad, if we forget about the previous movies and their extremely far-fetched connection to the Bourne franchise. It starts very slowly, more than any of those that preceded it, and there are many points where the story sounds confused and disjointed. Even so, it untangled itself and the ending worked relatively effectively. Tony Gilroy's direction proved to be far less interesting and original than that of his predecessor, with whom he collaborated directly, and the script, which he also assures, is good enough, but far from the quality achieved previously. There are also some editing issues and scenes that seem to be there just to take up time.

Without Matt Damon and the franchise's title character, the film feels constantly out of place. Say what you like… if a movie is so closely associated with a character it becomes difficult to conceive of a sequel or prequel in which she doesn't appear in some way, even if she is younger or older… Jeremy Renner does what he can for us trying to make this absence forget, but he can't, despite being a talented actor and doing a good job here. In the cast, he is undoubtedly the one who manages to stand out and shine the most. Rachel Weisz is not so good: the actress works as she can, but the material she receives is bad and the character never develops properly. Edward Norton is uninteresting and seems to be uncomfortable with the character. It is, without a doubt, the worst work by this actor, at least with regard to everything I've seen so far.

Technically, it's an intense film and one where there are many redeeming qualities: the cinematography is elegant and well constructed, making the most of the filming locations. The editing, as I said, leaves something to be desired, as does the pace of the film, but this is balanced by a good selection of special effects, visual and sound, and a judicious and well thought-out use of CGI. The action scenes aren't as impactful as what we've seen in previous movies, and the chases look a lot like what we've seen in previous “Bourne” movies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dull, boring and Mess! One time watch,it was like the whole original trilogy's bits were mixed in one,the whole 1st half was dull and from that the whole movie felt like 3hrs it felt Stretched.the music was good, the acting was amazing Edward Norton was amazing as Hot headed boss and Jeremy as assassin was great and Rachel was amazing as support, the story was decent but the screenplay and the execution was terrible, the action scenes were great and chasing sequences were intense.the connection with Bourne Ulitmatum was awesome as the timeline it was taking place in between it,the starting intro to CIA,doctors and Assassin's the situation at start was exciting but then the whole hunting of agents with the slow moving conversation's in snow house and the whole doctors intro it felt very boring the drone killing scene was awesome but it was showcased such a way half of the things were confusing.the things started to get exciting from the Psycho doctor's murdering and the Martha's house shootout the fight's scenes were awesome in it from then on the trip and all felt like Bourne Identity it was engaging from then on.the whole pills thing setup at start was like why,but then the purpose reveal was little surprising, the side operations and politics were good but didn't felt that impact-full,the factory breakout and crowded escape was fun and awesome then the whole ending chase and fights it was intense and awesome the stunts were really amazing and the last bike scene and crash it was mind-blowing and the end with the boat and the tied up of the case from previous movie was amazing, the 2nd half was amazing with great end,it was decent movie but disappointment for trilogy lover's and action movie goers as it has less action,as per spin-off i will love to watch origin and aftermath of the case but this movie felt no impact on it,Overall not too bad but not that good it was one time watch! The biggest strenght of the original Bourne movies is that they were fast, they were short, and they didn't waste time. They went straigh to the point

This movie is long, slow and wastes a lot of time.

It wastes time showing Jeremy Renner doing random stuff and hanging out with Oscar Isaac in Aalaska. It wastes time setting up a shootout for what feels like an eternity. It wastes time with a lot of talking and very little action.

Also, what's all this super soldier, genetic enhancement **** Wasn't it enough just having very skilled assassins?

The ending feels very abrupt. When "Extreme Ways" by Moby started playing I geniunely thought to myself: "wait, really? It's over already?". The film is very long and yet it still feels incomplete. Maybe they were hoping for some sequels.
Also, Rachel Weisz is really bad here.

There's some cool moments and I appreciate that it actually attempts to be different, but it would be easier to appreciate it if the name "Bourne" wasn't in the title. This could've been a fine standalone film.

My least favorite of the series. Didn't really have anything to do with the actual series. It was an ok movie, but it's like a different movie in itself.
