After the mishap, he seeks reparations for his rug that was soiled in the process, only to find himself strewn in the mess even further.

The Coen Brothers are masters of their craft, creating a genre-busting film with witty dialogue, comedic irony, subversions of expectation, a perfect soundtrack, and acting that gives life to the characters. Absolutely unique and hilarious. It's impossible to not like "The Dude" and Walter, which complement each other in their weird idiosyncrasies. My favorite Coen Brothers movie by far!

The story's message is very simple as in all Coen Brothers' movies, the symbolism is so subtle and exquisite as in all Coen Brothers' movies, and every character with or without an arc or a sub-plot has a thing to do in the movie's plot or atThe story's message is very simple as in all Coen Brothers' movies, the symbolism is so subtle and exquisite as in all Coen Brothers' movies, and every character with or without an arc or a sub-plot has a thing to do in the movie's plot or at least make you appreciate the movie even more than you do, but despite all that the redundancy of using the allegory by using many characters and sub-plots with the fast pacing could make you feel the movie's story is very sophisticated and convoluted even it's not. Also, I found some characters haven't been merged well with the plot (even they are very meaningful like the rest of the characters as I said). That being said, these issues didn't bother me at all as I was so invested in each character and I really enjoyed every second in the movie.

Jeff Bridges maybe give the best performance in his career. It's really a shame he didn't get an Oscar nomination for his vivid and stellar performance in The Big Lebowski. John Goodman was great, and he had a wonderful chemistry with Steve Buscemi as well as with Jeff Bridges.
Philip Seymour Hoffman didn't have a lot of time on the screen but he was so hilarious.

Roger Deakins did an awesome job as usual and crafted not just a beautiful cinematography but also a very smart and shiny one that has aged (and will age) very well.

The soundtrack maybe is one of the best soundtracks ever put to movie. It's a very very underrated one.

The Big Lebowski is a delightful ride. It's one of the best Coen Brothers' movies, and hands down it's the most "Coen Brothers" Coen Brothers' movie.

The Big Lebowski It is odd to encounter a sketchy comic feautre by Coen Brothers and the exciting part is that they do pull it off not like the other genre that they are familiar with but the writing is quite powerfulsay there's a man..

It is odd to encounter a sketchy comic feautre by Coen Brothers and the exciting part is that they do pull it off not like the other genre that they are familiar with but the writing is quite powerful and funny at the same time. And on terms of execution there is no doubt on that part as they score majestically on projecting the anticipated vision on screen. On performance level Jeff Bridges is hilarious along with a great supporting cast like John Goodman and Julianne Moore (she is surprisingly funnier than any other cast member). The Big Lebowski had a great potential concept that is piled upon setting the plot and characters way too much that the joke grows shallow and numb when it hits on screen no matter how much they have worked on building it up.… Expand

Near genius premise about a loser trying to get back his rug, but has a disappointing ending with alot moments I didn't care for: the parts with Maude being one. The Dude is the fantastic main character of the movie, who is almost like nihilists, he isn't interested in having sex, having a family or even a job, but he wants his carpet (or rug) back, because that is what's important for him. Clever, right? The movie itself is hilarious, and the histrionics of Bridges, Goodman and Buscemi are wonderful.… Expand

في هذا الفيلم خلقا نوعاً جديداً للحياة. فيلم شبابي تراجوكوميدي، وهذه ميزة الأخوين. رغم الأداء المميز لجيف بريجز وبشخصيته الخاصة اللامبالية وإنسانيته بنفس الوقتأي فلم للأخوين كوين هو فيلم مميز. حتى الآن لم أشاهد فيلماً لهما يمكن وصفه بالسيء.
في هذا الفيلم خلقا نوعاً جديداً للحياة. فيلم شبابي تراجوكوميدي، وهذه ميزة الأخوين. رغم الأداء المميز لجيف بريجز وبشخصيته الخاصة اللامبالية وإنسانيته بنفس الوقت (دوود) إلا أن ما أضافه الممثلون من أمثال بوسيمي وغودمان ومور وهوفمان وتورتورو أعطى للفيلم قيمة خاصة وكوميديا مميزة.

The "Dude" is not a man. For he "is" not at all.. For he does not do anything really.. Therefore, Mr. Lebowski, the bowling "Duderino" is no burden to anyone else in this world either.. Therefore, Mr. Lebowski, the bowling "Duderino" is no burden to anyone else in this world either.. Except for the other Mr. Lebowski, the millionaire, whos wife has vanished.

The name Lebowski is probably the only thing the entrepreneur and the white-russian-drinking dude have in common. So the dude gets himself in trouble. A kidnapping plot has unfolded and he finds himself in the midst of it.

Will all this find a conclusion? Will all this matter at all in the end? Well, this film does simply not abide, which is why many people don't get why this is in so many cineasts top 10 lists.. While dozens of writers have tried to get to the core of this story, the things that really make The Big Lebowski stand out, are all the things it is not and all the questions it refuses to answer on its own.

Sometimes there's a man. Sometimes there's the right Coen Brothers film for the right mood.… Expand

A funny and original story with characters that have more depth your typical comedy, maybe even your typical drama. The visuals encased in "The Big Lebowski" are interesting for its comedic tone, and the end result is a load of laughs.

A brilliant original comedy from the ever creative Coen brothers.
Jeff Bridges is superb as the "Dude", as are the supporting actors in this at times absurd movie.
A must see.

Such an empty boring film, some parts are fun (which brings up my review a little) but you can’t excuse the entire film because some scenes have good writing. The way in which the story establishes the sheer laziness and carefree attitude of "The Dude" is remarkable. No matter what happens to this man, you can't shake him up! Sure, his rug got peed on, thugs are breaking into his house, and his bowling pals and acquaintances are closing down on him, but nevertheless, "the dude abides!". The character development is solid and the acting is professional, and who could possibly ask for a better cast than this? Besides the 281 F-bombs, this film is hilarious and the entire story line can indeed have endless deeper meanings and significances.… Expand

The story is so charmingly simple that the entire case can literally be discounted from the entire picture. The Dude does some crazy things, and the dumb practical jokes he makes in reaction are absolutely funny. Additionally, the character development is excellent. The Dude, Walter, and Donny are three opposites of a coin, respectively representing the lazy, bad-faithful bum, the excessively rigid and irritable hothead, and the frightened coward prepared to flee from anything that exhibits even the least hint of danger. Overall, the acting is quite good. Jeff Bridges' performance as the slacker here demonstrates his acting talent. John Goodman definitely includes the absurd comedy.… Expand

Fantastic film its kind of a mi between a Tarantino film crossed with a comedy like the hangover. The cast were great with John Goodman being the standout. I wish Steve Buscemi's character had more to do.
