Unlike most biographical documentaries, “Stephen Curry: Underrated” benefits from having two very distinct windows in mind, both buttressing its underlying point: Curry as a barely recruited, under-sized high school prospect, before merging as a college star at Davidson; and his most recent title with the Golden State Warriors. You don’t need to know much about basketball or care about Steph Curry to watch this film, though many probably will. But much like the Michael Jordan doc “The Last Dance,” this beautifully constructed (and much more economical) narrative operates on its own terms, with a beautiful score guiding the viewer through his life. O filme nada mais é do que uma propaganda da NBA para um astro com apelo juvenil: negro, gay, de origem pobre, de esquerda, lindo, olhos claros, queridinho das redes sociais. Tudo bem que ele é um gostoso e tal, mas aqui há um exagero não apenas para enaltecer a pessoa dele (repare como nãoO filme nada mais é do que uma propaganda da NBA para um astro com apelo juvenil: negro, gay, de origem pobre, de esquerda, lindo, olhos claros, queridinho das redes sociais. Tudo bem que ele é um gostoso e tal, mas aqui há um exagero não apenas para enaltecer a pessoa dele (repare como não houve menção a seus defeitos, ou mesmo às rotinas mais exaustivas), mas também para enaltecê-lo frente à equipe quando da sua época no Madison.
Contudo, seus números impresionam sim, ele teve seus méritos, e é sempre muito bom ver um jovem vindo de uma região improvável, especialmente considerando sua cor, conseguir se destacar pelo puro talento. Então, longe de mim desmerecer tudo o que ele conquistou, é de fato impressionante, fora da curva, e em nenhum momento ficamos com a sensação de que o documentário soa gratuito, ao contrário, é extremamente necessário considerando uma América dividida e polarizada, que escancarou seus preconceitos na era Trump.
Então, que fique bem destacado que o documentário é pertinente, inclusive destaco aqui a excelente edição, não é sempre que projetos que intercalam momentos atuais com o passado, num vai e vem constante, ficam tão bons como o visto aqui. Há de se parabenizar a excelente montagem, a trilha, o resgate das fitas originais para tornar a experiência o mais imersiva possível, e funciona naquilo que é proposto: mostrar o atleta na superação das adversidades e suas conquistas.
A ressalva mesmo é por conta do tom sempre complacente, mas de modo algum prejudica o saldo final. Pra mim, que não entendo tanto de NBA, ficou a sensação gostosa de buscar ainda mais o esporte. Destaco também a baixa rotatividade dos jogadores em suas respectivas equipes, muito diferente do que acontece no futebol, por exemplo. O técnico da equipe inicial do Stephen, há mais de 10 anos, continua o mesmo! Isso é sensacional, passa a ideia de uma família mesmo, fortalecendo o senso de pertencimento ao grupo, conferindo uma energia impressionante. E o final valorizando a formação acadêmica é um bonito exemplo para geração atual. Um documentário muito bom, didático e com uma mensagem muito positiva para a atual geração.… Expand
