The acting was mediocre at best. While Daisy Ridley did a great job of being a good fighter in the film, the intimate or emotional scenes were cringe worthy to say the least. I thought that John Boyega, while funny, almost seemed out of place throughout the film. I don't think this was necessarily his fault as it may have been the writing, but his character just didn't act like a Star Wars character. He acted almost just like a normal person you'd run into anywhere. There were far too many cliché moments in this movie. It has a nearly identical plot with 'A New Hope' only this time the planet killing space object is bigger and badder. Kylo Ren was fantastic, until he took off his mask. After that it seemed whenever he spoke he was struggling not to cry. The movie does contain a good twist near the end. However, the final duel is a bit ridiculous to me, as Rey has no experience fighting nor using the force and yet is able to hold her own in a fight with a sith. To me it just seemed absurd. I was disappointed in the movie overall, and I hope the next movies are better. Should you see it? Of course you should, its Star Wars. Just don't spend a lot of money or miss something important to watch it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie looks and sounds like Star Wars, what with the similar characters and ships and lightsabers galore! But it certainly didn't feel like a Star Wars movie. The movie plays like a re-imagining of Star Wars: Episode IV (plus a few tidbits from Empire and Jedi), but with a lot less *magic*. Which, to me, makes it not even worth it. Who would have known Star Wars would fall victim to the reboot culture of Hollywood? This movie did as well as it did merely by stroking your nostalgia strings, but fails to provide much else of substance. I would have preferred they at least make a standalone remake of Episode IV because they spent so much time trying to hit the same beats of movies long past that they couldn't really tell the story of Episode VII unfolding before our eyes.

It's been 30 years since our heroes' last mission on screen together, but things don't seem to be going the trajectory we appeared to be headed during the credits of Episode VI. And sadly, JJ Abrams' attempts to take us back through memory lane meant very little time was spent explaining just what was going on in this movie. Why is the galaxy back in turmoil? Who is the resistance... or why are they resisting at all? I thought the rebels won? Why is the Empire just as strong, if not stronger than before, but with a different name? Why should I care about Hosnian Prime? What happened to Coruscant? These questions, plus more, are left up to the novelization and future movies and entries into the series. Which, in English, means "pay Disney extra bucks for content that should have been in this movie." Being a fan on opening night, giddy with excitement after 11 years of a Star Wars drought, I was left with more questions than answers. More frustration than joy. The characters themselves are enigmas with questionable motivations. Finn seemed like he'd be a very deep character: a storm trooper turned good guy (or Jedi, given the bait and switch marketing). But no. He has PTSD from seeing his friend die in battle, then sees a pretty girl and decides he wants to fight again, but against his old friends. What? Overall I feel like his character doesn't do very much at all except for being comic relief. A big disappointment, considering they marketed him holding a lightsaber in some trailers. Overall I feel like he's wasted as a character. That brings us to Rey. Not a lot is told about her, but you can tell that characters around her know who she *really* is. They are telegraphing her secrets so hard that you know they're going for a "No, *I* am your father"-type moment in Episode VIII or IX. What happened to subtlety? A lack of backstory nonwithstanding, the movie lacked in atmosphere. Things felt very formulaic and stale. I used to love hearing John Williams crank it up to 11 in the original trilogy and the prequels. It would get my blood pumping for a fight scene or make me feel more in touch with the characters' emotions. It would allow the scene to breathe a bit. This movie? Nah. Williams and company phoned it in on this one. At no point did his score overtake the scene and get my blood pumping -- at least not after the initial opening crawl. Worse so, the scenes that are meant to be nostalgia trips are quite heavy handed that it's 4th wall breaking. It's almost like JJ Abrams popped up in the seat next to me and went, "Hey, remember this scene from the original STAR WARS!?" Yes, I remember. I just watched all 6 before coming to the theater. And none of them had helicopter shot cliffhangers either.

All in all, I didn't hate the movie, but I certainly didn't love it either. A 5/10 is the best I can give this movie. It had its bright spots. BB-8 steals the show, hands down. And it was good to see Han, Luke and Leia on the same screen at all. I like the use of a woman and PoCs as main characters. Big props for that. But with those in mind, I definitely didn't wait a decade for a half-baked remake of Episode 4 advertised as Episode 7. If they wanted to smash together a remake and a sequel, just do what Creed did. The former main character becomes the mentor to the new one while they embark on a brand new journey. Not copy+paste an old script from a classic that didn't need to be touched. I thought Abrams would have learned that after seeing how bad Star Trek: Into Darkness turned out. Now instead of 3 unique movies in the new trilogy, we'll have at best 2. That's assuming Episode 8 isn't a remake of ESB. Lastly, it's painfully obvious that George Lucas was behind the "Star Wars magic" this whole time. Awful characters and all, you still felt like you were watching authentic Star Wars.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I anticpated this movie more than almost any movie before it however it was probably the most unoriginal conservative movie ever made. No new ideas just a remake of a new hope without calling it one. I could make a list but it would be too long of the similarities. Also the main character Rey her skills in flying and lightsaber fighting just werent believeable she had basically no training and was able to beat kylo ren. Come on luke didnt beat vader right away he had to train and then lose to vader first. As for kylo ren he was just such a lousy bad guy so weak. The less important things were good effects etc but this movie doesnt deserve the good reviews its gotten just based on the lack of originality alone. Expand

In the context of the other films it makes absolutely no sense. Rey is inexplicably the most powerful force user in existence without any hint that there might be more to her than what is readily apparent.

The new villains are a flanderized Empire fan-club with inexplicably more resources than the Galaxy-spanning tyranny they intend to revive. Meanwhile the New Republic is barely mentioned, seemingly powerless and only appearing once on screen when the capital is destroyed by the bad guys Planet-Sized Death Star with a big laser somehow visible from all parts of the galaxy.

The characters a mixed bag with returning fan favorites underwhelming and new characters underdeveloped. All of Han Solo's development from the original trilogy completely undone with no explanation. Leia leads a supposedly Republic-backed "Resistance" force against the new bad guys, the First Order lead by a new totally-not-Emperor shadowy villain.

The movie was not without promise though. All of its mistakes could have been undone if Episode 8 had repaired the damage done to the setting (instead of doubling down and making everything infinitely worse) The new Darth Vader -type character, Kylo Ren was an interesting concept, a villain who was unstable due to constantly comparing himself to a far greater evil he's trying to emulate. Even the First Order itself could have been very interesting if they were portrayed more as an insurgent force with the bereaucratically-entangled Republic attempting to hunt them down ineffectually.

As it stands this film is just a hollow soft-reboot that undoes everything accomplished in the Original Trilogy while wearing its skin to fool people into thinking they're watching the 1977 classic again. What a wasted opportunity...

Sorry, didn't cut it - OK, no big disasters and on the plus side a welcome return to the aesthetics of the first trilogy, but...
- Too fast storytelling leaving no room for mystery and suspense
- lovestory way too glued on and unbelievable
- new "Death Star mk III" and in general Imperial vs Rebellion (Republic) underdeveloped
- too keen on reintroducing key elements - not just aestetics - in an attempt to get the franchise "back on track"
- generally feels to much like a cinematic playground rather than a genuine attempt at reintroducing a gripping and arching storyline (in this regard actually manages to underperform compared to the second trilogy)

On the plusside:
- there's still room for a better executed sequel, dedicated to the kung fu of the Force (actually its begging for it)
- some new Imperial characters show some yet to be unfolded promise

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A really weak movie. Acting is good, special effects are good, plot is terrible, writing is terrible, characters are terrible. There are plot holes every couple of minutes. Main character is a Mary Sue - she is perfect at everything she tries in the movie, better than people who have spent years and decades training. Just because. Better than all the Jedi in all other movies, since she just "got" everything within seconds or minutes.

Don't get me started on the DS3. JJ is a moron who doesn't understand basic science - IMHO that should disqualify him from the genre of sci-fi altogether - he should not be allowed to make sci-fi movies. If you blow up a planet at one end of the galaxy, then other planets in the galaxy won't see that for tens and hundreds of thousands of years! Speed of light - galaxies are big!

I was willing to give parts of the movie a pass right until I saw that - it makes it look like the entire movie is happening in just one solar system. Because that's the only way other planets could be seen blowing up in anywhere near real time (even though it should have taken them minutes).

Not to mention that the method of attacking the DS3 was retarded - if anyone could just fly through the shields at FTL, why not load a couple of dozen freighters with nukes and send them in on autopilot?

This is besides all the smaller plot holes. Like the main bad guy being a total weenie who couldn't defeat a regular storm trooper. Or Phasma being useless in the extreme. Or the weak interaction between Han and Leia. Or the fact that with the magnitude and relative sizes of two or three stars (like what they had in the map) you could pinpoint the coordinates in seconds using a modern laptop (if not a cell phone).

This movie was badly written, had a bad and nonsensical plot, major plot holes, bad character design and dialog, and was not good in general. Despite all of their problems, prequels made FAR more sense than this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, this movie is getting this type of hype for such a completely un-original plot if any? I was really hoping that somehow this film would do the impossible but of course it did not. It did not expand GL's vision into a compelling overall narrative, but unlike many other negative reviews, I completely loved the gal protagonist developing mad force skills on the fly. And the setup to show the decline in the power of the dark side is somewhat appreciated in that the lead Sith lord of this film has anger management issues. Very weak subtleties that I may eventually come to appreciate. However, the main unforgivable thing for me is the completely boring and inexcusable third iteration of xwings attacking a death star - seriously? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I left a theater after the movie ended that was completely silent.

Sure there were a few chuckles during the movie.

Not once was there cheering like during the prequels.

That there to me proves this was a lesser movie.

I could of forgiven Disney/Abrams for the rehash of A New Hope in this movie.

What could not forgive them for and what truly ruined The Force Awakens for me was the lack of emotion all through out the movie. It was a boring ride from start to finish.

Those points coupled with the pointless death of Han Solo (or supposed death), nothing but lame jokes, garbage dialogue, and the overall poor acting, I have to say perhaps my sights were far too high.

I liked the EU universe far better for many things, and disliked parts of it as well.

That being stated Disney would of been better off following the books in the EU instead of this pile of trash.

The only real saving grace was characters from the original trilogy. I was excited to see Chewie, Han, Leia, R2, and C-3P0. It was a bit of a slap in the face to only see Luke 2 times for a total of about 60 secs in the movie as well.

The biggest disappointment for me in the movie was Kylo Ren. He started off looking very powerful and interesting much like Vader. There was so much hype about him, and I got suckered in by it.Then of course all too quickly he turns into a pathetic child who throws temper tantrums and is so emotionally weak he cant control the force when he needs too.

I gave the movie a 4 out of ten due to the fact it is still star wars but it doesn't even hold up to the prequels. That is the worst part about the let down about The Force Awakens. Disney/Abrams could of made a excellent foray in to the new EU universe simply by using much of the lore that was in place from the books.
Instead they took from the existing movies and failed.

Lets hope they make the next movie truly interesting and memorable.

Hugely disappointing, but predictably so. By far the worst Star Wars film ever made that no serious Star Wars fan could ever enjoy.

Let me just say, I am a massive Star Wars fan; not so much of the movies as most are a mess but I love the lore and the world that has been created. The movies often do not tell the story that a universe as vast as Star Wars deserve and this rubbish is no different.

The first thing I noticed was the acting of the two 'newcomers' - it really is awful, not helped by a terrible script. The chap who plays Finn is particularly laughable with his supremely stupid reactions to everything that happens around him - there is a noise 'what was that?', someone comes into a room 'who just came in?' it really is ridiculous. This can in part be papered over by the fact his character has been raised as a stormtrooper and knows nothing else blah, blah, blah, but really it's just awful acting and writing. These two really were unknown for a reason.

The heroine Rey, is only marginally better but again, suffers from the writing, with her character being possibly the most stereotypical ever conceived. Angry, down on her luck etc etc and then predictably 'blossoms' throughout the movie to get behind the cause, all very tired and has been done countless times before.

The 'plot', if it can even be called that, again, is laughably bad, an almost exact copy of A New Hope but not as good. It really makes you wonder where they got the guys to write this, my guess is that they must have been 'unknowns' as well. If you hadn't seen this movie you really wouldn't believe the plot was so close to the first film - Empire creates super weapon but has plans stolen by rebels who at the end of the movie manage to exploit the weakness they found in said plans, all the while a young nobody from a backwater planet becomes a large part of the rebellion unexpectedly' - it really is the EXACT same! It also cannot be saved by the side plot involving the search for Luke Skywalker, the stolen plans revealing his location the only real difference in the stories.

There is also a quite frankly, disgusting amount of fan service in the movie which I'm sure has been included just as much for the service as it has to save the writers from coming up with anything remotely original. Han and Chewie, the Falcon, a planet very closely resembling Tatooine, it all becomes a bit of a bore.

Finally I come to the most irritating thing about the whole movie - the duel at the end between Rey and Kylo Ren, and it's lead up. Yes, there are lore destroying, stupid moments in other Star Wars movies (Padme's age, how easy Palpatine kills 3 Jedi, the stupidness of how Anakin becomes Vader) but this one might trump them all. Unlike any other Star Wars film or any lore, both Rey and Finn become proficient in lightsaber combat the second they pick one up! Yes, apparently no training is required, contrary to absolutely everything we've read or seen in any other Star Wars material. This is ridiculous enough, but it comes to a ludicrous head when Rey, with absolutely zero training, manages to defeat Kylo Ren, a Sith Lord trained for years in lightsaber combat. If I didn't watch it on a plane I would have walked out right there.

The only good points were Kylo Ren, by a country mile the most interesting character and the one with the most potential and depth. Supreme leader Snoke, although basically playing the part of the Emperor also interested me and I'm eager to see more of them both.

To sum up, I really find it hard to believe any true Star Wars fan could actually say this movie is anything but awful. A huge disappointment and basically a lore destroying, ridiculous remake of a New Hope, that, despite the special effects, is nowhere near as good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "I am being torn apart." I watched the movie twice. I felt hope at times during the movie but
almost constantly battled a feeling of impending doom that the movie is not on track. The movie
is entertaining and humorous, but feels way too coincidental and convenient, which I really wish
could be explained away by the Force. The new characters are likable but we are forced to like
them because Rey can do anything as a superhero from a superhero movie, Finn is invincible like
a cartoon character to any crash, hit or lightsaber, and Poe has unshakable confidence and wit.
How can anyone not love those qualities? Kylo Ren, the most interesting character during much of
the movie is no longer an interesting character by the end, which is a failure. The side
characters of Phasma, Snoke, or the First Order were card board cut outs, and revealed the
film's lack of depth to flesh out history or imagination. Han's humor and silent gestures
grounded this movie, which I really credit Harrison Ford for his acting and writers to give the
movie deeper emotions rather than all the telegraphed surface emotions. During the Rey rescue
scenes I thought the movie was finally getting good, and felt on track but then they made it
heart wrenching. The marketing by Disney, JJ and Harrison misdirected me, into thinking this was
going to be a fun ride at least for this film, and that they would take great care with the lore
and characters already in place. But Disney forget to invent much of anything in the Star Wars
world except to play with the pieces already in the toy chest and add a few characters. They
almost kept it a "fun", "satisfying" movie experience, and it would have rated a 6, but Han's death makes it feel like a horror movie so it is a 5. It was an effective, memorable scene but did the writers have wisdom to make it worth it, like an Obi Wan death? Hopefully episodes 8 and 9 can frame this movie in a better light and give meaning to a master story.

Visually ok, but disappointing with both the acting and the choppy scenes. I seem to be one of the very few people who actually dis-liked this film.
The concept of the Finn character needs much more explanation than someone who turns rogue in the space of ten minutes!
The acting is so wooden it's quite annoying, I didn't make it to the end of the film I was totally annoyed with the cheesy one liners and the over acting. Even from the established actors Harrison etc were very poor, the scenes with Solo & Leia were cringe worthy and looked so staged it was quite terrible.
this film lacked any depth for me, it was far to Disney and far too boring, it seems quite obviously a way of generating large amounts of revenue, which I did expect if I'm honest.
I just wanted it to be so much more than it was!
When you look at films like 'Gaurdians', the humour sort of works, and in the old films that is true too, but it's so quickly done in this it just feels weird, the direction is so fast between scenes it just left me confused as to why it was even there.
Action wise it was ok, graphically very good, and I quite like the way that real scenes have been used rather than CGI all the time.
there are a couple of reviews that hit it spot on here, one refers to Voldermort, quite right too, what's that all about?
There was a chance here to make a film that inspired a new generation of an old fan, I think ultimately they have achieved the new fan bit, but 'hardcore' SW fan is not going to like the new direction. It just didn't work for me at all, there aren't many films that I leave, but this sadly was one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is really hard to rate given the crazy history of the franchise. So my number rating is what I think I would give it had I not seen any of the previous movies. Looked great, didn't seem to drag too much but I can't say many more good things about it. As a SW fan I would rate it higher just for the nostalgia and the fact that it wasn't one of the prequels. But I have huge problems with the movie.
As almost everyone agrees, the story is almost identical to A New Hope. Another Death Star!?!? Granted it was bigger and the idea was much cooler it's still a freakin Death Star. The bad guy is nowhere near as intimidating as Darth Vader. Not even close, so I'm hoping he is not a large part going forward. He loses to a tiny girl with no saber training or force training. If that was me I would retire and find another line of work. It was cool to get reintroduced to the old characters but it says something when the Wookie with no "speaking" lines steals the show. I have hope that the next two movies will be better now that they have gotten all the nostalgia out of the way and can focus on a new story but I'm scared someone's going to end up sleeping in an animal at some point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The special effects were great, cinematography was good and the acting was excellent. I like the new characters and thought what I learned of them was enough for this episode.

I've been a Star Wars fan since I saw the movie in '77 I was 7. I'm probably one of the few people in the world that loved the prequels (knew it wasn't going to be an action-based movie), and I walked into this movie with no expectations.

I knew the expanded universe was off the table, and expected an entirely different story. If the Force Awakens was a reboot, I would have loved it to death. But, it's not; it's the seventh chapter in the series.

I've never had a problem with the suspension of disbelief, until this movie. As soon as I saw Rey on the Tatooine clone I knew she was the new jedi. Because she looks a lot like Padme, I assumed she was Luke's daughter, which was revealed in her last flashback. It appears that the Janitor storm trooper will be another jedi given enough time as he can magically use the lightsaber. Ben is a Revanite knockoff like Sidious was supposed to be, wearing the Vader/Anakin/Revan gear with Revan's upgraded mask.

Han dies, which wasn't a shock as Ford always hated the idea of doing more movies. I'm sure Luke will die in the next movie as Hamill has been more bitter about the movies than Ford was. Fisher will probably stay on as long as she can because of $.

The acorn looking chick is the new yoda, Finn and Rey the new love interest, and as always the 3rd Reich can't make a death star without the obvious back door clause cause evil.

I can honestly go with all of that. Seriously. Fine. Whatever. It's Star Wars not Hamlet. I'm not expecting a masterpiece after 38 years.

But it's still A New Hope mixed with Empire, and I've seen those movies at least 100 times since their launch. I just wanted new.

I don't want a nostalgia piece. Chapters 3-6 were great for their time, but life marches on. Throwing out the expanded universe opened the door to a whole new universe, and Lucas bowing out removed the need to work through his WWII therapy.

It's a marketing masterpiece, and a fun Star Wars film with great new characters that I love. But the story is tired and played out. I honestly hope the next once amps up the story is veers away from the predictable setup they've laid at out feet.

I went into this without much in the way of expectation. I love the originals and don`t care much for the prequels, although I found them entertaining on release and still like bits of them despite their many flaws.

I was quite into the film for about the first half hour or so, enjoying following the new characters (Boyega, Ridley and Isaac) all of whom are likeable and funny. I also felt a bit of nostalgia at the appearance of Solo and Chewie, all seemed to be going well. A number of questions about the universe we`ve been away from so long hadnt been answered and there were a few too many references or direct lifts from the originals but it all seemed to be going well and I was engaged.

As the film continued and It became obvious that it was just going to be a retread of the original peppered with bits and pieces of the others with a liberal dose of a fanservice and an odd amount of jokey humour It began to lose me. It felt like I was watching Star Trek Into Darkness or Prometheus again. Too many things happening simply because thats what happened in the originals or for plot convenience, to hell with whether it makes sense or not.

A very weak villain and how predictable it all got didnt help. Once I stopped caring, all the niggly little details that didnt make sense became much more noticeable. By the time the big moments of the movie happened I was just wishing for it to be over.

I can`t say it was terrible, but I don`t really see myself ever watching it again. All the good things are draped over an unimaginative retread of a classic. All the grand epic moments are either rushed past in the hurry to get to the next joke/reference or the the movie doesnt feel like its earned them.

They could of course try to use this as a start point for new stories and something better, but between the mystifyingly glowing reviews and fear of trying anything new they probably won`t. Which is a shame because I`m not interested in seeing more of this, which is probably what we`ll get.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What this movie did right was to bring back the theme and feel of the original films. What I didn't like about the movie is the use of almost identical plot mechanism as the previous movies. If you have not seen the originals it may feel like more fresh scifi.

I wasn't expecting much when I went. This usually allows me to leave the theater having been pleasantly surprised that the movie was better than expected. Unfortunately I left the theater disappointed by this film. This was not the fresh scifi I was looking for. The next director is said to be more risky, perhaps then we will have a truly new Star Wars adventure in the setting of the originals.

So many things were done right; yet, so many things were done wrong that the movie suffered as a whole.

Let's start with what they did right.
Introducing new characters. They needed to introduce characters such as Rey and Finn into the film in order to foster a new generation of pure badassery. Daisy Ridley was brilliant in her role. Rey really did come to life for me, and was in my opinion, more believable of a character than any other in the film. The introduction of oldies, but goodies, was well-paced and generally thoughtful. They did honestly try hard to pay homage to the past while bringing the future into the forefront. The story was generally well-put together, and the action scenes were pretty brilliant. A testament to J.J.'s particularly grandiose skills. However, that is where the good parts end.

The acting in the film is better than in some of the more recent films of the franchise, but most of the characters suffer from a lack of depth of feeling. In Episodes 4, 5, and 6, Darth Vader is brilliantly imposing. The people around him genuinely fear being under his command. His silence is ominous, his anger pure and antiseptic. His rage was terrifying, because his strength was undeniable from the first moments in A New Hope. We loved him because he was an archetypal terror! The villains in The Force Awakens, well, lets just say they leave much to be desired...

Rips from the plot of A New Hope, the Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi are abound throughout the film. Iconic moments are taken and recycled into this movie without pause or concern for the well-being of the plot in an effort to entertain old die-hards who can't understand that change is inevitable. This blatantly formulaic approach to the film just gave us more of the same. When Disney trashed the extended universe to make way for new canon material, the fans expected more. We expected new, powerful, masterful material instead of the plot re-write from long long ago. Instead, we got a recycled film without real creativity from the ground up.

Overall, the film suffers from having too many things to introduce and too many story arcs that have very little to do with one another. And because of that broadness, the story lacks in depth, and the length of the film cannot do justice to what they tried to accomplish. Many things seem to be in the film as an afterthought for decisions that were made. You will like it. It is fun and exciting! Though we have one quote for the producers of the next few films: “...But beware of the dark side... If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice...” - Yoda

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I can't go into why too much without spoiling the film, but if you think back to the learning process Luke Skywalker went through to get to where he was at the end of the Trilogy, you'll see that Rey is just too good and competent considering that she has never had any pilot or jedi training (the film didn't tell us so at least). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues the famous tale of the Skywalker family 30 years after the original trilogy left off. It didn’t have to be good to make money, they could have just put the name Star Wars on it and would’ve easily made several hundred million dollars, but it wasn’t just good, it was amazing.

The movie takes place 30 years after the explosion of the second death star. The movie lead roles are Finn and Rey who meet on a desert planet similar to Tatooine. The first order seems to have taken the place of the empire with few differences between the two. The resistance has also taken the place of the rebels, which also have many similarities. Luke is missing and both the first order and the resistance are looking for him. The two fight over the missing piece of the map that leads to Luke. The first order later reveals their death star-like star killer base that blows up the small planets the growing new republic are located on.

Something that I have appreciated about the Star Wars franchise is that they bring in actors whose careers have just begun or those who have not had big enough roles to be well known (excluding the prequels). The two leads, Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) and Finn (played by John Boyega) did a superb job on their first major role. I personally like that they do this because I get tired of seeing the same faces in every movie. It’s good for the studio because it is cheaper for them to hire lesser known actors. It is also good for the actors because once they are done acting for Star Wars, the experience will likely boost their careers like it did for Harrison Ford.

The movie also had a good balance of practical effects (special effects that are physically produced) and CGI (special effects created digitally using computers). An example would be how they created an actual BB-8 droid instead of adding it in later digitally. But at the same time the CGI helped add detail to the background and allows the director to add big things without having to make it themselves for a lot of money.

The one thing that made the movie even somewhat bad is how much they copied from Star Wars: A New Hope. From the death star to the characters to the planets, it’s almost as if they've rebuilt the original movie but with fresh paint. Some of the characters are literally the same people. Such as Han Solo and Leia Organa. Both still play their same roles: Han is still smuggling, then he gives the main characters a ride to where they need to go and ends up helping the resistance group; and Leia being the leader of the resistance group.

The balance of practical effects and CGI was great and the use of lesser known actors for the leads is awesome to me.Even with how much it copied from the first movie it is still a welcomed addition to the saga. All in all it was an excellent movie and I can't wait for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is a great film for newcomers to the series, but an overly familiar one for returning fans.

Consistent action made for an entertaining experience from start to finish. With epic moments such as planet destruction, family betrayal, and Jedi genocide, there wasn't a dull moment.

However, the film could almost be considered a remake of episode IV. The plot, the characters, and even individual scenes were so similar to the original film that the whole film felt like deja vu. There was Deathstar V2.0, R2D2 V2.0, Luke Skywalker V2.0, and even hopeless robot stroll through the desert 2.0.

The new characters were decent with a variety of personalities and backstories. However, the only truely fresh character was Finn. Everyone else simply felt like past personas resurrected with a subtle twist.

In the end, the movie was great fun, but nothing struck me as truly exceptional aside from the visuals and special effects.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To put it all in one word, I would say "Disappointed". From the beginning I was extremely excited to see the new Star Wars movie. The entire series (games, books, TV series, toys, and more) were a big part of life for since my childhood. They guided my dreams to reach space, led me to attempt an aerospace degree and eventually got me an internship at NASA. And that's not counting my Star Wars Jedi Outcast tattoo. So, it was bad enough that Disney made the decision that my childhood was now no longer connon, then to have this movie slap me, my wife, and two oldest boys in the face made me upset. The entire movie is filled with plot holes, unexplained events, and science far-fetched even for Star Wars. An apathetic-at-times performace from the veteran cast made it all the more disappointing. For starters, why is there a third death star? From a writing perspective, it's unimaginative and lazy, from a plotline perspective it's just plain dumb. The previous two failed with an entire fleet backing them up, not to mention bankrupting the entire Empire. Oh, by the way...there's more, it's an entire planet this time that somehow took less than 30 years to build, can suck the power from the sun and can shoot multiple planets at the same time. Next, why is the new empire basically a color version of WW2 nazi footage? Seriously, they have a parade, a screaming leader, a giant flag, and a speech about taking over the universe. They even steal people and brainwash them to fight for them. (Which means the good guys are killing innocent people by the way) Then, they replaced Yoda with a new character named Maz Katana, who can't use the force, but seems like she can use the force and somehow has lukes old lightsaber. She never really clicks as a character and isn't explained well. And that brings me to my next point, the cantina Maz operates. It's a cut and paste from Episode 4 cantina scene and was lazy writing. Im getting tired so I’ll wrap up the last complaints. The entire movie takes place in one star system???? The New Republic isn't explained or showed, and why is the resistance (lazy writing and basically the Rebellion) separate from the Republic and only has a dozen x-wings? Why is a 60 year old princess the only general shown in the resistance? How can Finn use a lightsaber? Why does the only First Order Trooper with a stun baton find Finn and know who he is and beat him in a duel? Why does Ray learn how to use the force as good as a Jedi Master in a few minutes. Why does Kylo (Adam is terrible for this part by the way) get beat by Ray even though he has years of training and is in the Skywalker bloodline? Why is Ben Han and Leia’s kid in this universe when he is Luke’s son in the original universe? (lazy writing) Why was R2-D2 in low power mode? (lazy writing) Snoke is a new emperor, they didn't even try to be creative (more lazy writing)

I will say that i enjoyed some of the visual effects and the four newest stars were actually very good. And when i say the four newest stars, I of course mean Daisy, John, Oscar, and BB-8. Gwendoline Christie was underutilized and should have seen more screen time.

There is no explanation for anything that happens. The cinematography was amateurish. And the plot was amazingly bad. Everything is a facade, there is no DEPTH to anything or anyone.

Any previous established Star Wars logic and lore is thrown to the wind for sake of 'cool stuff'. This is a poorly made, big budget fanfic. The worst "Star Wars" movie I've ever seen, bar none.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -SPOILERS-

This movie was awful, not just for a Starwars movie. The character development was laughable, the introduction the movie made to old comers such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, and R2D2 was insulting. The others were just bad, not enough to mention. There was only a few good things the movie had going for it, in which they shat on towards the end or right after.

First off, short to long battles. Practically every fight that happens looks amazing, except for the final lightsaber duel. The small 2 on 1 fight with the Falcon Vs. the Tie fighter was incredible The way the gun was jammed so Rai had to flip the Falcon upside down so Fin could fire a blast and kill the pilot, that was incredible. Nothing better could have been done. Now it is what happened afterwords that got me.
"GOOD JOB!" "YEA YOU TOO!" "WE'RE A GREAT TEAM!" "YOU WERE AMAZING OUT THERE!" "SO WERE YOU!" *Circle jerking intensifies* They took an outstanding moment in the movie that really opens your eyes, and they just milk the **** out of it, to the point where it makes you hate that scene in itself for the way they made the characters pull off that scenario.

The potential of a storm trooper and Kylo Ren. Call me picky, but that scene with Kylo Ren Vs. Fin in that 20-30 second lightsaber duel was just appalling. How does a regular STORM TROOPER LAST THAT LONG, VS. A SITH. Storm Troopers are push overs, they die to the dumbest living things out there. Wampa's, Rebel soldiers, EWOKS. You name it. Now, when a Sith comes to mind, your first instinct is an unstoppable Jedi killer who can take on hundreds of regular people. Not this guy, you see; Kylo Ren actually struggles to kill 1 measly Bad turned Good Stormtrooper in a duel, and this Stormtrooper has never held a lightsaber in his life. My god.

The sound development . The sound they made and used throughout the movie was incredible, outstanding, amazing, fantastic, top notch. I could think of thousands of appropriate slang for the thought they put in for everything in the movie when it came to sound. The helmets being taken off, the weapons firing, the sabers clashing, all of it.

The Stormtroopers. The Stormtroopers were a hit and a miss at the same time. They gave too much humanity into them. For instance, the scene where Kylo Ren is informed of the bad news about who escaped and who the people were. He begins slashing everything like an autistic, then after learning one of the escapee's had to have been his sister, he screamed. Now, the part where the Troopers are walking, then they turned around. That was just ridiculous. Storm Troopers are suppose to be heartless killing machines disciplined by the darkside, not a bunch of **** This especially goes to Fin, who in a very short turn of events decides he wants to help a guy he doesn't even know. Yes, he did watch a comrade die, and yes, he did watch as Kylo Ren ordered his squadron to summarily execute tens of innocents. Either way, you think the training that would go into a Storm Trooper would be more intense than having your stomach turn when one guy dies next to you that you probably just knew and not cared for. Now, putting aside the negativity, the captain was fantastic until the last scene you see her. From the trailer I expected some cliche hefty angry disciplinary drill Sargent voice of a man. I was shown otherwise. They actually pushed the boundaries on what an Imperial / First Order can be, and proved to me that they could take a high ranking class captain of the Sith faction and make it a woman's role, and at the same time give that strike of fear that viewers like I felt at the beginning.

Kylo Ren in general. My god, they couldn't have made a Jedi turned Sith look any more retarded. Lets have a nod to the lore of the Sith. When you abuse the force, your body slowly turns for the worse, making you look like a diabolical abomination in a matter of years. Not with Kylo Ren though, he gets to be evil, cruel, heartless, and abuse the **** out of his force powers, but still looks regular. I don't know if it was just me, but from what I was expecting his face to look like from all the crap he did throughout the movie was a wrinkled, dirty washcloth. What we got instead was **** Ringo Starr incarnate. The worst part is that from all the horrible things he committed, Abrams made him look like a push over in half the scenes of the movie. Threatening to kill an Officer if he didn't succeed, and then not. To make things worse, the Officer stood there and told him the bad news on a **** grocery list, and all he says is: "Anything else"? Dear lord is this the Jedi turned Rogue that makes people swallow their spit in horror, or just a bantering easy going Brit.

I would say more, but I hit 4800+ characters, the limit is 5000. The movie is garbage, and I haven't even gone through half of what I wanted to criticize

It's a well done move with copied plot from the previous movies. The huge box office will send a message to Disney: "Keep doing it, we love it!". So prepare for more movies with copy - paste plots.

Back to the review....

This movie actually wasn't bad if judging it as a random movie; it would honestly rate a 7 out of 10 on my list. It's mediocre considering it's a Star Wars movie though.

THE BAD

People saying this is a Liberal's wet dream are wrong. This is a nightmare. Black guy as useless comic relief who might as well be a sidekick, white woman being an OP Mary Sue (I hate weak women, but OP people in general annoy me), and a non-existent guy who's sexually is ambiguous.

Finn, the black guy, only seems to be there to hush people of color up and to make the other white characters look good. There were hardly any Asian people, which is weird because they are the majority of the world's population. Hardly any black people, or any other people of color. They pretty much put Finn as lead, pitiful one at that, just to say, "there's your diversity! Now stop your yapping!" He sucks at fighting, which is weird since he was trained at a military academy.

The woman was OP, being a good pilot, using the force, kicking ass, etc; keep in mind she never had any training. I could buy her being good at fighting, if she's all alone then those skills are required, but good at flying a ship and using the force? I don't think so.

The pilot with an ambiguous sexuality was non-existent.

THE GOOD

It was an engaging action movie, it didn't disappoint with the action. It had several hilarious moments. The characters were unique in personality, and weren't obvious copies of the characters in the previous franchise. The effects were great, and that little robot was adorable. It came out to be a solid movie in of itself. Though I still wanted more considering that it was a Star Wars movie.

There's also too much reliance on nostalgia. Get ready for spurts of fanservice ever 15 minutes or so. Oh look, there's the Milenium Falcon. Oh look, it's C3PO and R2D2. Oh look, the cave sequence from Dagobah, except in the basement of a bar. The new characters are ok. Rey was the strongest of the 3 new protagonists, but didn't really shine until the last quarter of the movie. The returning cast were great, especially Han Solo, who I felt carried most of the movie. The visual effects and sound were excellent all around. They mostly used practical effects and it looks much better than the CGI fest that was the prequels. For the next one: less reliance on old characters and tropes. Give us something new. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 4 is mainly for BB8, Boyega and Ridley. But it kinda makes any victories the good-guys had in the original trilogy a bit pointless doesn't it? Empire's back (First Order); Death Star's back (Starkiller Base); Luke has seemingly trained only one dude in 30 years since ROTJ and that dude has gone bad; You can learn to use the force, and a light-sabre, in about 5 minutes as evidenced by Rey - Luke and Vadar and the rest must really be slow learners; Han is a smuggler again and he and Leia's relationship is a mess; Sith lords can use the force to read minds now - why didn't Vadar just "mind-meld" the Rebel Base info out of Leia's head in ep IV? And all this talk of getting rid minimising CGI only to have the main villain and a yoda-wannabe needlessly animated.

I think this is my problem with Abrams reboots: He has so much respect for the franchise but close to zero respect for the people that worked on it before him.

Then you get the worst and most unimpressive bad guys in movie history, then cheaply kill one of the most beloved characters because the script has zero emotion and you are done with this movie!! Everything this movie does, does Episode IV even today a hundred times better, more exciting and more emotional.

I loved Episode I-III because they were different and fresh in comparison to IV-VI. Star Wars was always brave, innovative and rose the bar for science fiction movies. The Force Awakens is just a cowardly, uninspired joke! SHAME ON YOU Abrams and Disney!

Ignored all of those collected works (from which it ought to have pulled inspiration) and instead created A New Hope again with a less plausible explanation of how we got here. I get it. I do. The books explain that the New Republic largely de-militarized and thus left the Resistence a rag-tag team of fringe fighters unequiped to identify the bigger badder death star being constructed... somewhere... and with... resources? But look. It's been 25 years since the battle of Jakku. Even if we are putting the galactic civil war on par with World War One and could therefore explain the second rise of a defeated super power in two decades, the rest of the galaxy would never, WOULD NEVER, plausibly have demilitarized as quickly as to have left a handful of ships in the hand of resistence fighters and gathered around only one system (which the starkiller promptly destroys). Never would a literal planet have had the opportunity to be constructed with all eyes on military development (especially that coming from the First Order being a remnant of the Empire). Even in WW2, historians agree the signs were all there that Germany was mounting a war time economy. Also, the other world powers were similarly still well equipped for combat arguably, even better equipped given the war time technologies like planes and radar and all that. To premise a film on blindly missing the remains of an evil war power constructing the exact same super weapon, but bigger, than before with an actual weaker flaw (just fly in and shoot some things no mega specific one in a million shot required) is insane. To see this come from Disney is inexcusable. They had the resources. They had the material. And what sucks the most is they had the actors (Rey and Finn and Kylo are all amazing). I'm writing this after the Last Jedi has come out because I had hoped that there would be some explanation. Like the StarForge (a device that could have arguably created the Starkiller base and fleet of star destroyers) could have been introduced and we could have all said oh, sure, that makes sense but no. We have this explanation that people just ignored them as the First Order became the dominant military force in the galaxy less than a century after one of the most wide spread conflicts in galactic history. I don't buy it. I wanted to like star wars. Hell I wanted to love star wars but this new series is an ambling, soulless imitation of Lucas's vision. I wish these movies had never been made and it makes me reconsider the Disney brand as a whole. There's do and do not, Disney tried. Disney Failed. Expand

Han Solo = primarily Finn
Darth Vader = Kylo Ren
Obi-Wan = Han Solo

This movie has a wonderful story even though it does seem similar to episode IV, V, and VI it doesn't take away from the enjoyment and is a great setup to the next two films in the trilogy. All the old cast does a great job and the use of practical FX are great. The only problem I have with this movie is StarKiller Base. Even though the name is awesome it's basically a third Death Star which is getting old. Also the Rathtars weren't that great but no movie is without flaws. Disney decided to completely destroy everything that made this Universe. I feel bad that we won't see the True Star Wars Universe, the Twins (Jacen and Jaina Solo), Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker. Yes, Ben Skywalker, the son of Luke and Mara Jade (who they also seem to have gotten rid of). This movie literally took names and places and then just rehashed Episode 4. I would have rather them have done the clones of Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker; or jump forward to the Yuuzhan Vong War (though many would be WAY too lost to follow it).

This film will never be in my collection, nor will I buy any merchandise from this film series. Disney needs to slap themselves and redo the whole film and just admit that they messed up.

This film is on par with DragonBall: Evolution and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Tell those fans to accept the crap movies that were made of the popular Anime and see what happens. Disney took a popular series that didn't have any alternate universe (which was the great thing about it) and decided to slam it in the mud and keep it there.

I hope they decide to fix this. By the way, luckily my Star Wars faith was restored with Rogue One; however, if Disney keeps on the path of Ep. 7 I feel bad for the future of the franchise.

They took some things from all of the previous Star Wars movies and tried to pretend it was a completely new and unique movie, while they of course made sure it was 100 % political correct. It's such an overrated movie because really it's silly how bad both the writing and the acting is. Rey is apparently this amazing wonderchild that beats every opponent without any practice whatsoever. She defeats Kylo Ren who is a sith student basicly the first time she uses a lightsaber. The movie is dumb, i don't think i need to say much else. Expand

J. Abrams. It stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson.
This movie is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi and follows Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron's search for Luke Skywalker. They also fight alongside the Resistance as the galaxy faces a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren and the First Order.
I really LOVED this movie and every single thing in it. Daisy Ridley is perfect as Rey in the leading role. She was really, really good and showed perfect emotion throughout. She's also awesome in the action sequences and she really sold it. John Boyega is great too, a totally stand out performance from him. Also, Oscar Isaac is very good as he is in every role he's been in so far in his acting career, he was really likable and felt like the new Han Solo. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are good too, especially in the scenes between them that were very touching and through them you felt like there was a history and remorse behind.
Kylo Ren is brilliant as the main villain in the movie. Adam Driver did a wonderful job as his performance was very haunting and even tho it is not explained perfectly, I still found his backstory very interesting too. Plus the final fight with lightsabers is greatly done and the cinematography is what takes it to a whole new level.
The visuals are eye popping, and I loved that they used practical effects mostly. When they used CGI characters it was noticeable but it didn't take me out of it at all. The score, composed by the legendary composer John Williams, it is as great as you'd except and very good-feel like.
Unfortunately, many people have given this movie a bad review simply because of it having many throwbacks to the first original movie, as honestly it does have some plot points that do feel déjà vu here and there but then again those scenes are what make a great Star Wars movie and I am thankful that this movie brought us back to the glorious time and wiped out the bad taste of the prequels.

Clearly, The Force Awakens is not a great film. Equally this is very obviously not a '0 out of 10' film. These user reviews are being posted by people with agendas. If someone gives this film zero out of ten, they are not reviewing the film. They are likely EU fan devastated that Disney wiped 30 years of content off the map. To award this movie zero is a protest. Many of those awarding the movie 10 is a reaction to that. In reality, this is a good movie, not a great one. For the truth, look to the IMDB score, the Flixster score and the fact that this movie won best movie at the Empire and MTV movie awards, voted by the public. Look to the Most active user reviews on this site. Bad movies cant get to $2b box office however well they are marketed (look at BvS).The people have spoken. Ignore the crazed fans - the truth is out there.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok to many plot holes, characters with no or limited force training with abilities far to advanced, flying the Falcon for the first time and not crashing it while going through tight spaces was to far fetched. The scenery outside on Jakar and other planets was excellent the indoor shots looked like they were on a sound stage. The destruction of Corcrosant, I am assuming it was Corcrosant was not violent enough and as I said it just looked like a small cast was standing on a railing on a sound stage when explosion hit. See the movie do not buy all the hype hopefully the next one will be better. Expand

The Force Awakens is a wonderful return to form for the Star Wars saga, using characters old and new along with a classic formula to win back the hearts of fans worldwide and giving us new hope for the greatest Sci-Fi franchise of them all.

Even though it's obsessed with recreating the look of the classics, it has none of the heart. The new characters mostly fall flat, and the old ones really have no excuse for being there (Leia especially has not aged well, it has to be said). I wish we as a people could just put this series out of its misery instead of torturing it like this. Expand

Just amazing.
A movie aimed at fans of canon.

The plot continues the tradition of poetry , however it soon goes into its own unique direction.

Every single ''plot hole'' that is mentioned online is by ''fans'' who dont read up about canon and dont understand the basics of the SW canon (not EU , canon)

All the hate this movie gets is unfair.

Its the best movie IMHO since ESB.

I understand if some dont like it , but RoTJ was ''safe'' and a ''copy'' of ANH and yet it was seen as good.
I think the hate is just a mix of ''special snowflakes'' and the ''need to hate''

If you feel betrayed by StarWars being good again , then its a shame

As for details on the production : -Lighting is perfect , nothing feels fake
-FX the blend of CGI and practical is amazing , however there is one exception the rathtar (it looks less impressive than the rest)
-script its close to perfect with only a few lines that felt forced from lor san tekka at the start. -Plot is great deals with classic themes but goes in new directions with it
-Lore the most important part of a SW production IMHO the lore is great and will show many intresting subplot for those who like to read into it

My only issues with the movie is the battle for starkiller base , I love that battle and its visuals and its subplot in genral. but the xwing battle could be removed from the plot and would not change anything.
In fact apart from removing the new republic and its fleet and showing how advanced the first order is it could be removed and saved for a different movie (or be a one use only weapon)

As for the hate towards the movie , most of it is pure band waggoning.
Yes like all movies it has flaws , and indeed its not as good as ESB but its better than the prequels and better than ROTJ in my mind.

Its not that close to ANH as remeber than in ANH the outline plot is : save the princess , kill the deathstar.
However in TFA its find luke and stop the first order.

Starkiller base is a subplot , the meat of the story is about luke and finding him.

As for the rest of the complaints I have read a lot of them are valid of course but ignore lore and other information such as : -All the planets in TFA are close to one and another thats why it feels ''small''
-The falcon was being tracked and has a unique ID , its hard to miss it
-Rey is force sensetive and had to fight all her life to stay alive (and in her spare time she played a space training program she found on a downed ISD)
-General hux speach is actualy realistic if you look at dictatorships and terrorist groups , something the first order is
-Kylo ren is NOT a sith. the sith are gone , luke and anakin removed them. they are nothing but a shadow of that way of life , maybe they are more of a threat , maybe they are less of a threat but they are not sith
-Kylo ren is not fully trained

Anyway , if you hate the movie its fine. all the power to you.
If you like the movie but dont agree with me , all the power to you.

I like all StarWars movies but only love 4 (V , IV , VII , R1) but I dont hate the prequels but I see the flaws in them and have done from the very start (got me a lot of hate in the day)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 17 months later still sucks

It's almost been a year since I saw this movie and I'm still butthurt. This movie is so bad I'm going to point out why I hate it

- Racism and holocaust theme. There's no doubt that Finn is a racial stereotype for a black slave in the civil war. His whole motives of running and wanting to escape and be free of the first order is loud and clear to these themes. To add to this there's a scene where Finn is whipped on the back (which should of killed him) by the big nosed emo. Also why is there a Nazi scene where that red head looks like his on drugs

- Completely unoriginal. It's disappointing that they had three years to write a new story and they couldn't think of anything. There's no way this story is original so how the 'beep' is this a continuous story from Return Of The Jedi. Why not make a reboot like you did to Star Trek you lazy f***

-Terrible acting and characters. Ok the acting was bad in A New Hope but everyone was likeable in that film. I can't support any of the new characters in this film because they are either without flaws, annoying or just plain weird. Why the hell is there a weird interracial relationship between Finn and Rey? this isn't STAR TREK!!

I'm sorry but this is the worst movie I've ever seen I don't understand how this got 80 on this site and I don't care about the story or what's going to happen next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lazy lazy lazy. A near total rehash and remake of ep. 4 and 5. Death star that can blow up 5 planets at once now. WOW!

Weak weak characters. Weak plot which left me with no desire to watch any more installments.

Forgettable characters. Seriously watched the movie 2 nights in a row and still cant remember the main protagonists name.

Obvious links to Nazism by Obviously Jewish run Hollywood.

Here's an Idea. Lets throw together ideas from Avengers, Hunger games, Thor and and of the other star wars moves. Mix them together, throw in some familiar characters who look worn out from the original movies, use a plot that has already worked once before and then work on lots of special effects. Bound to be a hit right? WRONG!

FLOP!

Avoid and do not bother watching any more installments.

The two leads were amazing, the cinematography and special effects were spot on, and it had a few twists and mysteries that do a great job setting up Episode 8. Its certainly not the best Star Wars has to offer, but its still worth watching and hopefully, a bit more creativity and some better villains will make for an outstanding Episode 8. Expand

This movie had a laundry list of things this movie needed to do. It needed to serve as a new movie for the younger generation while satisfying the old generation and make up for the prequels. Whelp, that is what JJ Abrams did with this movie.

The acting was overall good, the actor who played Po was awful, but other than him the acting was sufficient. The practical effects were magnificent, and the CGI was very good, with the exception of some of the space scenes. The biggest downfall of this movie was the story, totally uninteresting nostalgia-fest. There was a couple sitting next to me in the theater, maybe late 50's, it was obvious they had seen the movies when they were kids and had an emotional connecting to them. I, being a 16 year old who has no emotional connection did not cry when people died, or when "sad" things happened. so the biggest question, if you didnt cry what did you get out of this movie? The answer? just another predictable and boring blockbuster. 6.6/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying that when JJ was picked to direct the movie ,i thought he was the right guy for the job without a doubt.I really enjoyed his work with mission impossible series and love the star trek reboots. Also having watched a ton of his interviews ,i considered him to be very intelligent and talented.I still do.

But unfortunately TFA is absolutely horrible.I am still shocked and amazed how the critics review it so well and have no doubt at the moment that there is a conflict of interest in most of them.Having looked through the majority reviews of users here it seems all the fans and ordinary movie goers have the same problems with this movie.

And yes ,this is much more of a reboot than an original movie. There are so many things wrong with it and the script is so week that it is hard for me to believe that one can criticise Lucas's prequels. It is true they were not perfect by far.But omg just compare darth mall to kylo ran? When i first so Darth Mall he was menacing, strong,he meant business, he took on two fully trained Jedi knights with unbelievable confidence that he would kick their ass and he sort of did. That's what should represent a power of the dark side. Are you seriously telling me that a trained ex-jedi under luke skywalker and a current dark side aprentice of snoke had problems with a girl who held a lightsaber for the first time in her life? Are you seriously selling me that without any training she just used a jedi mind trick on a storm trooper? Are seriously selling me that Death Star 3.0 has the same weak points as the previous ones?Did i just see the best guy dark side has to offer lose a force pick up of a simple lightsaber to a girl who never did it?And i can go on and on with this for a very long time.

I am however sure the kids would love it ,because the movie was made for them and you can feel it through out the whole movie. The problem is even with all the practical effects ,previous heroes it just doesnt fell like a star wars movie.People criticise prequels ,but when i saw Coruscant i was "WOOOOW" it is amazing and i don't care if they used cgi ,it gave me the belief and a feeling that the galaxy is huge and unlimited. When i saw clone army i felt the power of the republic. Here i see a couple of TIE fighters and x wings ,with a bunch of storm troopers on the ground. The galaxy feels so small ,not to mention that all those coincidences play into that even more.

I can bet you all the money i have that by the 3rd film Kylo will turn good ,they are just exploiting darth vader story the other way around, that why they are showing him conflicted, but they show it so poorly ,those are like a little girl comparisons are spot on.When Anakin was turned to dark side we knew why,we knew that from the first movie he was afraid of loosing his mother a child,he kept those fears with him ,we see him being hurt by her death later on ,we see him being afraid of losing like her mother his love and future children. It not too much but i get that ,i can get him turning to a dark side. What made a guy with two very important parents and a super famous uncle under whom he trained turn to dark side especially when it was destroyed i don't get? Of course we can say that this will be told to us later, but at least something may be ?a hint or something?

There are just so many things wrong with this movie and so little right , that i could feel myself like a complete idiot getting robbed for my money and believing all the hype about this movie.
