A fantastic conclusion to the saga. (What do you MEAN, "somehow, Palpatine returned?") I'm going with a different approach for this one, reviewing each act individually.
Act I: Solid. I don't appreciate the *weird* stuff at Jabba's palace (Oola, Leia in bikini, etc.) But it admittedly fits what they were going for in the section, which is the kind of sleazy gangster vibe or whatever, which is executed to a T. This act is a bit cheezy at times, and it feels a bit weird that Han was saved so quickly after the previous movie made such a big deal of the carbonite, but it's about the best they could do with the plot they envisioned.
Act II: Also solid. It's not the best Star Wars content ever or anything, but it's very well done. Speeder chases are great, Endor is great, the Ewoks are great, characters are great... just a solid time overall.
Act III: Oh my gosh. Oh... my gosh. OH MY GOSH. This is some of the best Star Wars content, period. Luke and Vader's relationship, the Emperor's trickery, Vader's redemption... It's all so perfectly realized. Plus the space battle outside is pretty good too. The final destruction of the Death Star II used to feel anticlimactic to me, but the last time I watched it I didn't really feel that way. This third act is truly amazing, and is what makes this film a must-watch.
There is a distinct tonal difference between the three acts, and a few more minor flaws, but these pale in comparison to the way the film carefully, thoughtfully, and provocatively ends the Star Wars saga, at least until 32 years later.

And how much itI couldn't resist the temptation and also re-watched the film that concludes the original trilogy, "Return of the Jedi". You really can't finish "The Empire Strikes Back" without feeling an immediate urge to watch this movie. And how much it was worth. The original Star Wars movies are an unparalleled cinematic experience. Still, this movie is the weakest of the original three. Compared to the revolutionary "A New Hope" and the masterpiece "The Empire Strikes Back", here it is a slightly more ornate and silly film about the battle on Endor, and there are severe pacing problems here, with a 40-minute first act and then an immediate jump to the end of the film after a strange second act, which connects in the climax of the saga between three events that take place at the same time. It is also very strange that this is a film in which the event that takes place is hardly noticeable, rather it only comes in the middle of the film. And yet - the whole sequence of saving Han from Jabba is a brilliant film in itself, Vader's return to the light side of the force is still amazing, and it is still one of the best films in history, which holds up even after 40 years. On this optimistic note - may the force be with you! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This one is OK, just OK. After the good 'Star Wars' and the great 'Empire Strikes Back', you see 'Return of the Jedi', and *SPOILER ALERT*, the good guys win. Of course everyone wants to see the good guys win, but announcing the outcome in the title is not exactly a smart move. Nor were the Ewoks, and the ending party didn't need to last as long as it did. Then again, the scenes with the Emperor are legitimately pretty creepy, and who can forget the (take your pick of stupidly awesome or awesomely stupid) line "IT'S A TRAP!!" 'Jedi' is the weakest link in the original trilogy for its tonal inconsistencies, but it is still far better than any of the prequels. Expand

This has always been my favorite of the Star Wars movies, mainly for the heroically uplifting final half of the movie, and the Machete Order makes exponentially more powerful. Still is an excellent movie in its own right, but the Matchete Order puts it over the top, and ends one of the greatest and most influential movie trilogies in history. Expand

Warning: Spoilers
So what made this movie a step down than its two predecessors? Well, forgive me for nit picking, but I didn't think the humour is as strong as it was in New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Plus, while it was evident, the romantic elements weren't as developed either. However, putting these flaws aside, it is still enormously entertaining, thanks to the elaborate set pieces and the well choreographed battles(the final battle especially was a knockout). And I will say that it is a vast improvement over the prequels. The plot is still fast paced and sophisticated, and the screenplay while not as fun still is as imaginative as ever.

I have heard many complaints about the Ewoks. I think it depends on your perspective whether you like them or not; maybe a delight to younger audiences, maybe too sickly cute to an adult. Being a 17 year old female, I thought they were very cute. The acting is still very impressive, with Mark Hamill spontaneously likable in the lead. Frank Oz is a perfect Yoda and his death scene is heart rending, and Ian McDairmund also steals his scenes as the Emperor. Harrison Ford, in an inspired bit of casting is great again as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher is still vivacious and Alec Guiness the great actor that he was is brilliant as Obi Wan. But my favourite is James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader, his majestic booming voice is very ideal for a dark menacing villain. And I must mention John Williams's music, brilliant and innovative, unquestionably one of the best film scores of all time. All in all, while my least favourite of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi makes for essential viewing. 9/10 Bethany Cox.

Now before you rush ahead and quickly mark my review unhelpful, hear me out alright? Return of the Jedi is the only movie of the trilogy I had no hopes from. I had heard of people saying that it's the worst in the series. But considering INow before you rush ahead and quickly mark my review unhelpful, hear me out alright? Return of the Jedi is the only movie of the trilogy I had no hopes from. I had heard of people saying that it's the worst in the series. But considering I got bored from A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back I thought this one is going to be even worse (why I got bored of them, that's written on their reviews. But still if you're too lazy to check it's because I always somehow get bored watching old movies). So I had absolutely no expectations from it. Turns out it has the most story of all the Star Wars movies.

The movie began with answering the question as to what happened to Han Solo. He gets rescued by Luke and Leia. We even get to see the iconic Boba Fett in that scene. Later on we get to see Lando. Even though I haven't heard about him and I actually had to look up his name while writing this review, he looks pretty iconic. I don't know if this was a popular look or this movie made the look popular, but I guess the latter is true. There were many other NPC characters throughout the movie, but for me the selling point were the Ewoks. And I don't care what all the "die-hard Star Wars fanboys" say.

The Ewoks are so adorable! I wanted to pull their cheeks. Their scenes were so cute and funny. The way they fought the Stormtroopers or treated C3PO like a messiah was really wholesome. I really wanted to see that kind of stuff in Star Wars movies. Just because it's set in space doesn't mean it always has to blast out laser guns or have huge flying ships. After all, it's set long long ago in a galaxy far far away. There could be many tribes living over there as well. And seeing them hold up makes me believe they still exist somewhere in today's time, having evolved into becoming teddy bears as advanced as humans.

And finally Darth Vader's final fight scene in this movie, in my opinion, was way better than The Empire Strikes Back. We actually get to see what Darth Vader looks like, and he hasn't cut Luke's arm for this. This is the correct way of drawing out emotions. The one who is making the audience emotional should be in pain, and not the one being made emotional. Darth Sidious was really intimidating, and I really wanted more of him rather than the trash that Palpatine was.

Star Wars: Episode VI is even today my favourite Star Wars movie. It doesn't matter what others say about it, it's gonna be the most OP in my opinon. In just 2.5 hours it managed to tell more story than the entire sequel trilogy combined. And the best part - the spoilers from this movie aren't even as popular as Episode IV or V, so I could watch it without already knowing what I'm about to watch. I'd absolutely watch it again.

Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher remain a thoroughly enjoyable trio. I did find parts of the plot a little similar to 1977's 'Star Wars', due to the Death Star stuff, but overall I unquestionably enjoyed the 135 minutes.

The score is great again, while the new bunch of characters are cool. There are some memorable moments in there, as we see the first spate of films come to a close very nicely. I'm very intrigued to see where things go with the prequels, hopefully they continue to hit high marks.

I would love to rank it lower, but the movie starts off great and has an even better ending. Although it retreads a lot of the same plot points as A new hope, the beginning Jabbas palace rescue and the ending duel between darth vader and luke is just some of the best cinema I have seen. I like the idea of endor and ewoks, but there's something about the execution that doesn't sit right with me. I also don't hate the new 2019 Disney+ edit of this movie. It has some good additions. Lightsaber fights got better, acting was on point, effects are amazing for the time it came out, music is as good as always and the perfect end for Anakin of course. I'm just not a fan with the part about Jabba. It's not bad but neither really good. It's just ok. A bit biring maybe Expand

Out of the original trilogy, this is the weaker. Sometimes it seems like they are forcing the things with the family stuff and all, but anyway, nice movie when it come to its technical aspects.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well everybody knows which are the aspects positive this movie like the battleships galactic battle, the Jabba hut palace, the meeting with the emperor or the fantastic final for the saga.

I told why it is worst the original triology:

-Special effects are inferior than the before episode
-The eworks are awful, because i don´t understand because you want to introduce another comedy gadget if you already have C3PO and R2D2, this decision gests worse Endor Battle.

But it´s a good movie and i recommed watching.

the last half of this is gold star wars but the first just feels weird, Jabba's palace sequence nearly goes for 40 minutes and only serves the purpose to get Han back in. oh yeah, and ewoks, but still an amazing conclusion to the OT.

The confrontation between Luke, Vader, and the Emperor is one of the most iconic Star Wars moments. Also, the desert rescue sequences is one of my favorite Star Wars scene. The story leaves very few previous questions unanswered; however, it suffers from a lack of originality in some areas (ex. blowing up a bigger Death Star) and plot holes in others (ex. Yoda and Luke's training). Though I didn't think the Ewoks were too annoying, I found some of their scenes to be silly. Overall, Return of the Jedi is a solid conclusion to an all-time great trilogy.

It is time for the deciding confrontation between the rebels and the empire. Again I think most of us are biased by nostalgia and childhood memories but I don't care for my review. The movie starts with the rescue act for Han Solo. If I remember correctly it was not sure if Harrison Ford would return for a third movie so they ended the previous movie in a way that this was covered. Many dislike this arc and I on the other hand like it. It gave us the famous slave Leia outfit;-). Then the set ups for the climatic final will be done and we got the last bits of character developments. Again I think I have nothing new to add here. I wont spoil much more but will repeat that the final battles and the conclusion leave all of us satisfied. It is the right way to end this saga. Overall while not the strongest of the original trilogy it is a worthy addition to he saga. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The end of the original saga. The weakest of the original trilogy IMO but again, not by much. Unlike others I never had any problems with the Ewoks (except for them eating humans that I felt was out of place) and I don't remember if I ever thought that Darth Vader should have stayed evil. I do remember reacting to how string and dark Luke had suddenly gotten. I also never liked the way Boba Fett was defeated because while funny, it kinda takes away the final showdown between him and Han that fans where waiting for.
Still, the ending always gives me chills.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this movie. It's a great story about a father and son. Luke brings Darth Vader back to the light side of the force and becoming Anakin once again. This movie has the most heart out of any of the other Star Wars movies. I grew up with the prequels and love them too. But the reason I like the Prequels so much is because of the original trilogy. I love Luke and Darth Vader. So to finally see how Anakin became Darth Vader was incredible to me. To see Darth Vader as Anakin in his prime fighting Dooku was a dream come true. But without the original trilogy I wouldn't give a **** about the prequels. Although I still don't give a **** about Disney Star Wars. If you loved the original trilogy but hated the prequels not sure how you could like any of the Disney Star Wars movies. At least the prequels had a good story with character progression and respected the force. Disney Star Wars is a joke going by their own rules about how the force works. Disney Star Wars creates problems for the Original trilogy and the prequels because of what they did with the force. So I don't count Disney Star Wars as real Star Wars. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As long as you skip the annoying Ewok parts, this is pound for pound one of the best films ever. So emotional, despite it being a film set in a futuristic intergalactic world the movie relates so much not just to me but to the average movie goer, the film brings the common bonds between Fathers and Sons, Brothers and Sisters in a way that makes me connect to it so much.

I love the sexual tension between Luke and Leia in this movie, you can tell from the great acting that Luke had a hard time resisting the urge to bang his sexy sister during the scene where he reveals she's his sister to her. The kiss the two had in ESB made that sexual tension higher and made it obvious the two were sexually attracted to one another. I love how Palpatine looked a bit like a woman in this film as well so I'm pleased the film promotes transgender people. But the Ewoks were so creepy and gave me nightmares when I was a kid as they're so ugly. They are also boring as hell as they can't speak, they don't even have subtitles for whatever they might be saying. Watching Ewoks is like watching a pet crab sit still, it's lame.

Return of the Jedi even though its not as good as the first two it still is one of my favorite movies of all time and it is an amazing conclusion to the original trilogy. This one adds the fantastically adorable ewoks and the end of the reign of Darth Vader. The visuals effects are gorgeous just as they were in the other two. The animatronics and puppets continue to be fantastic especially Yoda and R2-D2.
