When Star Wars first hit the cinemas in 1977 the reason it got the amout of hype was because its story and directing stlye was revolutionary for the time and greatly shaped modern hollywood. But in a world where the "Star Wars Formula" is commonly used and further developed Ep 4-6 wouldnt be interesting anymore. The setting "Bad Guys have the power and Good Guys rebell to gain it back" was heavily used in the last 40 years, Star Wars would still be its origin, but that alone wouldnt make it fun to watch. What it lacked was a background, HOW did the bad guys come to power. And ROTS gets into that perfectly. The chancellor manipulating the corrupt republic (based on a war in which he led both ends) and especically the most promising force user in history in the way Ian McDiarmid plays it, is amazing to watch and fills a huge gap in the history of Star Wars, this movie in particular but also the other Prequels are the reason Star Wars is still relevant nowerdays.
Must watch, 10/10, one of my favorite movies all time and my favorite Star Wars movie!

The special effects are still a problem but they are better than in the other two movies.
The acting is still pretty awkward for the most part plus some odd lines, but not as much as previous two films, indeed, I dear to say that there is a lot of cool shots and bits of dialog that are pretty intense.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Revenge of the Sith is the greatest Star Wars prequel. The movie takes all of the biggest Star Wars prequel criticisms and completely eradicates them. Revenge of the Sith is not too long, the plot makes sense, the dialogue is far superior to the last two, and Jar Jar only has one line in the film. Revenge of the Sith also keeps the best part about the prequels, the fight choreography, and capitalizes on it.
The entire point of the prequels is to represent how Anakin plunged into the dark side. In the prequels, Anakin is presented as a human with human emotions, not a Jedi that’s subject to the Jedi code. Anakin turns because of loyalty to the man he respects and the desire to protect human life. Anakin must choose between two fathers, representative of two sides. Obi-Wan represents the light and Palpatine represents the darkness. Both sides are using Anakin to get something they desire, both not recognizing him as an equal. This concept is immoral no matter how moral the cause is. Both Fathers fail to do their job, and for that, it eventually leads to their death.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is honestly in the top three when it comes to my favorite Star Wars films. Ewan McGregor is such a great actor and is easily the highlight of the entire film but the rest of the cast is really good too. The only exception, to be honest, is Hayden, who is extremely out of his depth here and was wrongly cast by George Lucas. The characters overall were memorable and badass. Great writing, great drama, great action flick. What else can I say? Expand

The film contains several iconic Star Wars moments, mainly the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin. The story is much more emotionally compelling than the previous two movies. However, it contains many of the problems between the previous two films, such as the uninspiring characters and wooden dialogue. In addition, there a several inconsistencies in the story which ultimately do a poor job of connecting the prequels and the originals. This film was an improvement over the other two movies, but it still leaves you searching for more. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Revenge Of The Sith, where do I begin, the cast are way better than they were in Attack Of The Clones and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is way better in this one. The reasons on why he's better is due to him having better dialogue which works well and it's quite a small thing but his facial expressions when he's taking with other characters show him to be quite an angry and annoyed character, not really shown as the whiny brat he was in Episode 2. Also, the fight scenes here are very fun and engaging not like the ones in Attack Of Clones, we get to meet some new villains and witness some brilliant fight scenes with them. Honestly, my favourite fight scenes throughout this movie would have to be the one where it's General Grevious Vs Obi-Wan Kenobi and the final fight scene where it's Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) vs Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) those fight scenes are always amazing to watch. Finally, the Revenge Of The Sith has got an amazing plot with a brilliant ending which links up perfectly to A New Hope. Overall, I'd honestly say this is my favourite prequel and it might be one of my favourite Star Wars movies, it's honesty worth the watch. Expand

There's no question that George Lucas on his own cannot write good dialogue as some of it here is cringe inducing terrible and since this is when all the story threads come together, it's all the more disappointing when it doesn't land. Episode III is saved by its stunning visuals, music and action set pieces that easily make it the most entertaining and somewhat satisfying entry to this trilogy of Star Wars films. Expand

The romance scenes are a lot better and don’t feel forced. The plot is consistent, face paced, and entertaining. Unlike in Attack of the Clones, I never felt bored watching this movie. It’s full of action, suspense, and emotions.

Watching how the Republic fell and Anakin’s turn to the dark side were amazing and finally gave context to the OT. Ian McDiarmid is amazing as Palpatine, especially in scenes like Order 66 and the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. Hayden Christensen got a lot better and portrays Anakin excellently as a young adult confused with emotions he has been forced to hold back until they finally erupt inside of him and fuel his turn to darkness. Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman are gems as usual. The scene between Obi Wan and Anakin on Mustafar has to be one of the greatest scenes in movie history. “I HATE YOU!!!!!”
“You were my brother Anakin... I loved you...”
Both actors did that scene perfectly. The emotions were passionate and real. Seriously, if you are a Star Wars fan and haven’t seen this movie, go see it. It saved the prequels after the disaster that was AotC. This movie is up there with Empire. 10/10 for me. There are some flaws, but the highs of this movie are so damn good that I have 0 regrets watching.

Even haters of the prequels will admit that this is a good movie or at least an improvement (Some only to themselves;-). All plots come to a mostly satisfying conclusion. There are even less wooden dialogues (One of the main complaints by many). The movie starts strong and doesn't decline. I like the plots and must admit that the Jedi are partly to blame for their downfall (See also Bonus Star Wars knowledge). I will not say they are evil. They are paralysed by their dogmas and cant evolve. The order needed reforms and Anakin would be the right person with Obi Wan and other as guidance. They fall into the trap to easily. I like the portrait of Anakin's struggle. He tries to save his loved ones by means he would never consider otherwise. This is something anyone can relate. Question yourself what you would do save your family, friends or loved ones. Palpatine (Ian Mc Diarmid) is a brilliant plotter and here he can shine. You can see him enjoy the fruition of his plans. If I have a complaint I would say he should make the galaxy a paradise for everyone. This would be an even more ultimate victory and would taint the Jedi order forever (Example: Do you know the story of Darth Sidious the great? The most liked emperor of all times. The man that ended slavery and poverty in the galaxy. The man they erected statues and named hospitals / universities on each world?;-). But this don't affect my rating. My two real complaints are the high ground advantage (Works not on one on one. It works in army size conflicts) and Padmes (Natalie Portman) fate. The explanation for her demise is ridiculous. Like so many times I don't blame the actress. She does an awesome job in this movie. It is the script for this scene that lessens the experience. I will also praise Obi Wan (Ewan Mc Gregor) for his role. I hope they make an Obi Wan movie (At the time of writing it looks like they cancelled it). Then there are the intense battles. . They are the best in all Star Wars. Of cause like always there is the score from John Williams. He is a staple for film music and a real genius. Overall the prequel trilogy is not as bad as fans made it. The new trilogy will even improve this statement. I really enjoyed this movie and did even rewatch it. Bonus Star Wars knowledge: Did you know that being a Sith is totally legal by republic law (Even long before the prequels)? It is freedom of religion. Attacking some one on base of this alone would be comparable to a hate crime in our world. The best traps are the ones that the targets will not avoid comes to my mind. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the rocky start the prequel trilogy found home and gave us a satisfying conclusion to the Anakin trilogy. While you knew what would happen you still wish things could have been different since you have gotten to know all the characters. There is only really one problem I have with this movie and that is the way Anakin finally falls to the darkside by accidently killing a Jedi. Things really goes from 0 to 100 after that. But maybe that was the point? Maybe George Lucas wanted us to see Anakin as someone who didn't actually want to join the darkside and trapped by one really bad mistake, as an explanation why he still has some good in him that Luke later can find. Even if him killing children feels kinda strange since he so strongly believed in justice. It always felt like it was suppose to take much longer for him to get that far. But then again, this is fantasy and the darkside corrupts really fast. We have seen before that going darkside makes you really dark really fast and turning back to the light goes just as fast. I love the beginning of the movie. I loved Anakin's fight with Dooku. But this movie was just a little off or it would be perfect. I think Anakin killing children was a bit too much of a turn for me. It wasn't believable. I think his turn to the dark side could have been better overall. It works but it could have been better. Darth Sidious manipulates him so much and Anakin wants to save Padme. But I don't think he would actually kill children at this point. The lightsaber fight between Anakin and Obi Wan was too long and over choreographed. I didn't like when Anakin becomes Darth Vader and yells noooooo!!! It was cheesy. But overall it's still a good story about how Anakin becomes Darth Vader. Meanwhile Yoda vs the Emperor was a battle Star Wars fans dreamed of and George Lucas made it real. The ending hits you hard in the feels, and ends with the beautiful view of tatooine sunset. This movie was everything any Star Wars fan would have hoped for. An amazing way to end what was a flawed prequel trilogy, well done George Lucas. Expand

However, this one is the "best" out of all of them, I guess, because it's the only one that felt like the missing chapter of the franchise and the one that finally explains the backstory of Darth Vader that actually matters.

As a Star Wars movie fan, I give it praise for the action scenes and lightsaber duels, they are great and are moments fans wanted so much, like the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin or the fight between Yoda and the Emperor, they look really fake (More on that later) but at least the great score makes them exciting.

As a movie, this is AWFUL. Seriously, the acting, directing, cinematography, visual effects, writing almost every single aspect is BAD!
The acting is awful, it's extremely cheesy, melodramatic, cartoonish, I mean, the lead (Hayden Christensen) is an awful actor and Natalie Portman, Samuel L Jackson and pretty much every other actor (except Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiamird who tried) is just bad.

The directing and cinematrography are just mediocre.

The writing, oh my god, the writing. Who turned Star Wars into a melodramatic middle school play!? You might say that's the point but it's not! The original Star Wars and Empire had good writing! Seriously the dialogue is so bad, it's corny, it's cheesy, it's dumb, it's hilarious and total cringe at times (Remember Darth Vader's "NOOOOO"? That's supposed to be a sad moment but that writing made me burst out laughing). I swear to God, you need to watch this to just make fun of how horrible the dialogue is.

It's full of clichés, Ankin and Padme have no chemistry, their romance feels forced, it has tons of plot holes and incoherences and tons of things that are contradicted in the original trilogy (like how the hell did Obi Wan aged so much in just 19 years, don't come up with some explanation from the comics or anything, I want logical explanations in the Star Wars movie canon), and a lot lazy writing (Like ohhhh so C3PO got his memory erased so that's why in the original trilogy he doesn't remember that Anakin created him, how convenient, right?).

Not even the visual effects are good: Star Wars is a franchise known for its outstanding innovation in visual effects, but here, genius filmmaker George Lucas (Ha,fun fact: the best Star Wars movie wasn't even directed by him) decided to use CGI heavily and as a result, this movie hasn't aged well. I swear to god that when watching this I'm just "why not just make the actors CGI too? They're pretty much the only thing that's not CGI. The visual effects haven't aged well and as a result it looks like a Playstation game, how is it that a movie from 1977 has more convincing effects than a movie that came out in 2005?

What a terrible movie, I mean I don't review the other two (Phantom and Attack of the Clones) because I'll say pretty much the same (except in Phantom I'll just add the worst comic relief in cinematic history, you know who it is and if not, you must be a Star Wars fanboy). Seriously, those who give this a 9/10 or 10/10 must be Star Wars fanboys, like, guys, open your eyes! Open your eyes and admit that this movie has more bad than good. Even The Last Jedi is better YES, I SAID IT, you wanna know why? Because at least that movie is better in almost every aspect I just criticised (Acting, cinematography, visual effects, writing) not the best in the franchise but at least better than these three prequels.

So I recently rewatched the entire Star Wars Prequels, including this one. So I figured, why not write a review?

First of all, I am a BIG Star Wars fan so I would love this movie even if it would be really bad, which it isn't. Allow me to explain. I see a lot of people complaining about the acting of Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker). I thought he played the character formiddable. Anakin is supposed to be monotone, dark and impatient. He played this perfectly. Even George Lucas himself said, and I quote: "Poor Hayden. His perfomance was great, they just didn't like the character". The same goes for Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and the other characters. The story was refreshing. I never saw a story fold out like this one. It was not the best, but it was certaintly not bad. It did stick with me after the movie but the build up still feels slow especially since we have had 2 movies before this one explaining the story of Anakin. Effects were great, CGI is great (during the time of making). Film technical I don't have any problem with it. But, there's one thing that does bother me, a lot. And that is that the technology in this movie is so much better in ROTS that in ANH that it looks unrealistic. The ships are more viable and better defended, the troops have more weapons and look stronger and overal the combat technology looks advanced. I know ANH came out about 30 years prior to the prequels and that thus the effect and stuff look worse but that's not what im talking about. Im talking about the machine we see and how it operates. Just rewatch the movies and you will see my point.

7/10 it's great long live Darth Jar Jar.

The CGI may be a lot better here, but this film is still ruined by horrendous dialogue, headache-inducing action sequences, another terrible performance from Hayden Christiansen (and other characters, although his is still by far the worst) a manic, plot-hole-filled mess of a story that attempts to squeeze tons of failed character development into the film's second half, more worthless, unconvincing romance and tons of 2000s blockbuster movie clichés that are impossible to take seriously. The fact that this movie has so many fans and defenders is downright tragic; maybe in 2005 it might have been a nice surprise because it's more visually interesting than the first two, but it's aged so extremely badly to the point of being inexcusable. The prequels will forever be a complete abomination, among the worst movie trilogies in the history of film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Revenge of the Sith carries the same problems as Episode 1 and Episode 2 : Poor dialogue, poor acting performance, unnecessary and naive scenes, and in some cases, a humiliation to the continuity of the SW universe. However, this is the best of the trilogy and it has some strong points that save its rating from getting 6 out of 10.

First of all, Anakin in this movie is more likable than in Episode 1 and 2. In Episode 1, he was very annoying with his naive, meaningless dialogue. Episode 2 Anakin is a whiny, lousy teenager who keeps complaining and has a creepy way of approaching a girl he had admired since he was a kid. Anakin in Episode 3 is more worthy to be considered as a hero and his fall for the dark side is even more interesting. I think part of the charm of this movie is the darker theme compared to the previous 2 movies. There's the hero turning into the villain, massacre of children and the jedi, Anakin losing his handsome face from the burn, and the victory of the antagonists. They add up to the emotion of the movie.

Anakin's steady transformation to the dark side is very well executed and Lucas did a great job in connecting the Prequel Trilogy to the Original Trilogy. The Republic's transformation into an empire is also very well-thought by Lucas and it suddenly makes the 2 previous movies seem to make sense. It's never too late to impress the fans.

Whilst it doesn't step up to the prowess of Empire Strikes Back, the 3rd and final prequel feels much more genuine and thought out than the previous installments (possibly because it had the most story to cover).

Technological advancements in CGI (which is oft thrown around carelessly in the Prequels) has much improved and sparks a great deal of colour and life into the film; Lucas' ability to create worlds and aliens makes for breathtaking scenes and fun battlescapes.

Similarly, characters feel much more developed and authentic. Hayden Christensen's Anakin is better written and it shows that he is a more talented actor than most people will have you believe. Many scenes feel more emotional with the stakes higher and the theme darker. A host of other astounding actors (Ewan McGregor, Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jackson etc) are better utilized with the stronger story. New characters such as General Grievous liven up the story without detracting from it too.

The dialogue is still somewhat archaic, but many lines are memorable and hilarious (Thanks R/Prequelmemes) as well as carrying the story much better dropping the stakes for a quick laugh. However, its not perfect and does hold the movie back from its full potential.

Personally, I rank this film tied 2nd with A New Hope and just behind the Empire Strikes back. Despite its flaws, it is a lovable and emotional adventure.

The origin story of Darth Vader and the Empire is a beautifully tragic one, and there was a lot riding on Episode III being the one that would save the prequel trilogy from the lackluster, meandering storytelling of the first two installments. Thankfully, it mostly delivered.

From the opening sequence of Revenge of the Sith, it's clear that the filmmakers have a much stronger grasp on their ambitions. The special effects in this one are leaps and bounds better than those of Episodes I and II, and it results in a much more lively, vibrant, believable visual portrayal of the galaxy we came to love in the original films. Though Revenge certainly does still suffer from the same trend set by its predecessors of digitally constructing entire sets even when it's completely unnecessary, it's not quite as distracting as it was in previous films. For the most part, it works. In addition to this, John Williams' score (as always) is breathtaking. It's arguably the best of all the Star Wars films, adding beautiful emotion to the tragedy of the fall of the Jedi.

Speaking of tragedy, the plot behind the prequels has always been exactly that, but it just was not as compelling as it could have been in Episodes I and II. In Episode III, the plot develops much more quickly and it's fascinating to witness how the dark side of the force manages to seduce everyone and tangle people of all sides of the conflict in their own good intentions. The moving story is further anchored by strong character arcs that make every individual equally relatable, even the villains.

Despite its many strengths that make it stand out among the Star Wars films, however, Revenge of the Sith does suffer from many flaws that it just couldn't shake from its predecessors. The most prominent of these flaws are the acting and dialogue. Both are still much better and more believable than they were in the previous films. Ian McDiarmid is creepy and effective as the Chancellor and Ewan McGregor sometimes shows plenty of meaningful emotion as Obi-Wan. But the line delivery is still just awful at times and the dialogue is written in such a way that it seems that Lucas doesn't trust his actors to convey emotion on their own. Every character must say what they are feeling all of the time, and it's not believable. It's forced and still worthy of cringe and laughter.

Revenge of the Sith is not a bad movie. I would even argue that it's an above-average one. It has a lot of rough patches but most of them are smoothed out by chilling visuals, some forceful character development, and a politically astute narrative that's surprisingly thought-provoking and intelligent.

Directed and written by George Lucas, it has the participation of Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Ian McDiarmid, among other actors.

This is the last film in the second trilogy and, therefore, binds directly to the original film of the first one. The script is good and establishes this connection in an interesting and credible way. The actors performance wasn't very good and this is, perhaps, one of the worst elements of the film. Natalie Portman disappointed, with a dull interpretation, as Hayden Christensen, who achieved a poor and too theatrical performance. On the other hand, Ian McDiarmid knew how to surprise and gave his character a huge dose of cruelty and coldness, capable of raising the skin of any audience. The special visual and sound effects were perfect. The costumes, make-up and scenarios didn't disillusioned Star Wars fans. Thus, Star Wars ended his second trilogy of a fruitful and positive way, up to the early films of the saga, and the wishes of the public.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The best of the 3 prequels, pity that the appearance of Vader was at the end and not about half of the film and pity also the other two previous films of Lucas. I should have started with this and see the development of Vader and the Empire. Expand

The most action-packed movie by far, however not the best acting and the story could have been better.

For all his writing deficiencies, Lucas spins this fable elegantly, with a delicacy that makes you realize, he's been dreaming of telling this story for a long, long time.

Una muy buena película. Narra el acabose del jedi más poderoso de la galaxia de una forma bastante acorde a la visión de Lucas respecto a su obra maestra de 1977. Muy emotiva y de acción satisfactoria. Totalmente recomendable. Diez de diez.

The best of the prequels. Better than TFA and most certainly better than TLJ (which was just so hideous it makes me angry).

Revenge of the Sith is the final installment in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. It, without a doubt, certainly with out with a bang. The movie follows Anakin Skywalker's descent to the Dark Side and transformation into the Dark Side. Surprisingly, the movie is able to make Anakin a relatable character by making him turn to the Dark Side out of sheer desperation and powerlessness to save his wife, Padmé. In the words of director George Lucas, "you can't have a monster turning into a monster. That's not a story." Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and Ian McDiarmid as the cunning Palpatine definitely turn in the standout performances of the film. Every scene with both of them is great!

The action and visual effects in the movie are, no question, the best in the saga. The movie starts off spectacularly with an epic space battle and ends with an intense lightsaber battle in which the characters are surrounded by fire. The sweeping shots of the city-planet Coruscant and other locales really elevate the cinematography of the film as well. That's not to say the movie isn't without its character moments. The scenes between Palpatine and Anakin and Anakin and Padmé help make the film's climax even more emotional than it would've been.

Time has definitely been kind to the darkest chapter of the Star Wars saga. In my opinion, it's the best film in the series and it's really not a contest.

Review was redone ahead of The Last Jedi.
