I will update this review soon.

Ok, it's an 8/10, as mentioned before I have never played anything scott pilgrim, this is a highly satisfying movie with some very small problems.

Firstly the dialogue fighting the music sometimes is a bit overwhelming.
Secondly the pacing, it can go a little fast but considering the time it had it was acceptable.

This is a really short review I know, it is an old movie anyway, but I enjoyed this one.
I also need more, tell me there is a sequel?

Scott Pilgrim VS The Universe?

Do I recommend this though, yes and no. I was watching this with my dad and I don't think he found it good, I on the other hand found it to be something different compared to the films we have today. Different generation I guess.

I need more and want more of Scott Pilgrim, I'm going to be trying out the game/s now soo the movie did a great job in interesting me in its universe.

The Goodest Band Movie Ever.

Great music, even though most of them are covers, memorable characters, great CGi,
And, there's a game, which is great.
The books that the movies is based on, also great, and...
The upcoming anime.

The film is shot in a unique way and looks wonderful and the music is cool with lots of energy. Edgar Wright does a superb job directing the film, the film is filled with humour and good humour at that, it goes at a cracking pace and is compelling throughout and the characters are appealing. The acting is great, Michael Cera gives one of his better performances(only his performance on the brilliant sit-com Arrested Development is better in my opinion) and he is well supported by some very talented co-stars.

Overall, a great movie and one of my personal favourites of its year so far. 9/10 Bethany Cox

The story begins in the land of Toronto, Canada where we are introduced to Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) and his band mates, Steven Stills (Mark Webber), Kim Pines (Mark Webber), and Young Neil (Simmons), who start to drill him about his love life, because he reveals that he is dating Knives chou, a highschooler. Scott and Knives have a very awkward relationship. Scott is not the most successful adult, he lives with his friend Wallas, and does not have a job. Scott goes on a “date” with Knives to the library, and sees a girl from his dreams, Ramona flowers. Scott instantly falls in love with Ramona and asks her on a date when he sees her at his doorstep while delivering a package. They have a great date, but on the backside he is still dating knives because he doesnt wanna break her heart. So in a climax of events he invites both Ramona and Knives to his concert. It goes well and he doesn't have any incidents until the ceiling breaks down, and here comes Mathew Pattel, Ramona's first evil ex. Scott fights Mathew and comes out on top but learns he must fight Ramonas other evil exes. This film is not just good in quality but has many fun facts as well. This film has won multiple awards such as Empire Award for Best Director, Motion Picture Comedy/Musical, and Satellite Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Did you know that this movie is based off of a set of graphic novels, and the movie was finished before they were! The ending of the movie, which is very good, was made up completely by the screenwriter. It has songs from many different bands, including the rolling stones. Last but not least the game has a video game based on it, its very hard as i have played it myself, but it is a fun rewarding side scrolling beat em up. I think this is a very good movie, it's my favorite of all time after all. The film covers tough topics like abuse and how to handle having a bad past. The characters overcome this though and give strength to any viewers who are struggling with similar issues. The talented cast and the very talented director give this movie some wacky flare, with its comic book style. It has a special place in mine and many peoples heart for the enriching story and deep meaning to all 112 of its minutes. Expand

'Scott Pilgrim'I rarely saw so much benevolence for gamers in a movie. We need more movies like this one. Without being directly about video gaming it compiles an impressive number of winks and easter eggs for players. It is so open-minded. 'Scott Pilgrim' includes gay people, women with a deep role, a shy hero and a diverse cast. This surely was a risky shot for director Edgar Wright. But I see it ended up getting the reviews and recognition he truly deserves. Scenario is intriguing and firstly unpredictable. But once the main subject is launched the course of events and ending become way more predictable. The very end hopefully remains a true surprise. Overall pace of the movie is really weird. Important things sometimes happen very (too?) fast while insignificant things are highlighted for a long time and intensely. Staging is awesome with all these video games and cartoonesque style. Special effects are decent even for these days.

Jokes are huh... Numerous? Don't get me wrong: there are so many jokes that it is impossible to be all bad ones. So yes, some are truly funny while some others are an ocean of flatness and ease. It is hard sometimes to dissociate true and effective things in the movie and what is here to make us laugh and/or getting triggered.

Main character (Scott) was quite hard for me to understand and truly appreciate. He certainly shows some interesting progress all along the movie but his inconsistency and raintery made me hate him too. It is hard to understand what he really wants in his life. It goes the same way for Knives who is wounded then wants revenge and then forgives everything. Ramona surely is an interesting character but doesn't fail to also show some inconsistency and strange weaknesses.

(Bonus for the iconic scene at the end brilliantly used as a major sample in Kid Cudi's last album on 'She Knows This'! *What if I want the satisfaction?*)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why doesn't everyone love this movie? It is my second favourite Wright movie, and it is so good. Although it might not live up to the cornetto trilogy, and even on a bad day Baby driver, it is still amazing. The cast is hilarious, Kieran Culkin being an especially funny addition. The cinematography is spectacular, blending the real world and the dreams inside Scott's head together in such a way so amazing that it is hard to believe. Some of the effects may have aged poorly in retrospect, but the majority of them are still very impressive. What many point to as the biggest problem is that it lacks the same heart that made the graphic novels it was based on so popular. And although the novels may have a better and more experimental story, the movie makes up for this by not only being more funny than the novels ever were, but also giving off the impression this all might just be one person heavily altered perspective on the world around him. The ending might be a little muddled, probably owing to the somewhat rushed production, but the impression I left the theatre with wasn't on of regret over what the movie might have been, but rather one of happiness over such an hilarious and heartwarming and awesome story could even exist in the medium of Hollywood film. This was a completely transcendent experience, one that I will have many times in the future as well. Expand

TheScott Pilgrim vs. the World is a film made solely for one audience in mind and it may not be enjoyable for those who are outside of that audience. The design of the film is decent, as well as the actors who were chosen to play the roles. The writing is decent as well, though contains cliches of stereotypical "geeky" type culture. Which is part of the down-side of this film.

The film was made for the geeky audience in mind, and if you are not of that audience it may be difficult to understand or relate to many of the jokes and references the film provides. To put it simply, this film was crafted decently but may be seen as cringe-worthy or a master-piece depending on the lens the user sees it from.

I also remember howI remember how big the Scott Pilgrim series was, and how well it captured the early 2000s nerd zeitgeist. I remember how popular this movie was, and how it was viewed as such a great springboard into the graphic novels. I also remember how Scott Pilgrim underwent a critical re-evaluation where everyone distanced themselves from the franchise as a result the manic-pixie-dream-girl archetype coming under well deserved scrutiny. Ramona Flowers is the peak manic-pixie-dream-girl and you're lying to yourself if she's not. People argued that this movie romanticized the toxic behavior of putting someone on a pedestal, and people really straight up abandoned Scott Pilgrim over this. They may have been right.

Now that the critical controversy has died down, does this movie hold up?

I think it does. Its ironic because the whole movie is about Scott learning to NOT put Ramona on a pedestal and to actually treat her as a person. The movie is funny and heartfelt. The effects, performances, and gags are great. Edgar Wright really elevated this movie into something great. Definitely check this one out.

I love this movie so much, that I felt like I needed to write publicly about it! Where do I begin?

This film is a personal favorite; never in cinema history have I ever felt so connected to a character, nor his friends, nor the world (though, with much more graphics) than with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Such a vibrant and colorful world this film creates, filled with music, and emotions, conflict, love and friendship. Oh, and tons of humor! For me, this film perfectly depicts an exaggerated version of the kind of culture and reality I found myself in at the end of high school and throughout college, which is why I love this movie so much!
On a technical side, this movie has some of the best transitions, use of lighting, and motion GFX that I have yet seen! Everything is so fun and energetic; every action pops off of the screen like a drawing from the comic books. Definitely a movie that will stay in my lists of favorites for life! I hope to one day show this to my future kids when they're heading off to college. It depicts a world where men are the eccentric emotional beings, struggling to accept responsibility for the wrongs they have committed in the 20-something relationships they were involved with, while the women are the ones who are emotionally collected if not stoic (Kim and Ramona, primarily). This film is such a direct tap onto what culture I come from, and live in, and love, and I don't think there will ever be a film like this one again!

The movie does have a bunch of aspect in different ways that entretain you, not just because it is really good, but because is a completely different kind of work that isn't usual at all. First i would like to talk about the sounds in the movie, it is mastered perfectly, like the sounds fit and combine with what is happening during the scene, it is so enjoyable and natural at the same time, the director did some tricks in transitions in scene to scene that is just phenomenal. The visual of the movie is another factor that makes this movie so iconic and unique, it does apply some video game hud, putting life, combos counting, the pose of fight games, that is so great.
The acting for me was perfect, Michael Cera was the perfect casting for this character, he really is a big nerd and like his character he naturally pass all of the insecurity and charisma that the character should, you totally connect and cheers for him. Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers may be the best character in the movie, she had a nice arc and she totally delievers it with the nonsense aspects of the movie.
The supporting actors are all great, every single member of the legion of evil have some personality stereotyped and are all interesting and fun, the gay friend did a great job, so as her first girlfired and his hole band, everyone did a nice job in here, and definely is a good example of way this movie worked.
The story is another unbelievable aspect of the movie and make this movie even more great. Is basically a guy that nerds can relate a lot, he have a girlfriend and a difficult situation with girls in the past. He finds another girl and desperately wants to date her, and for do this, he needs to fight and defeat all of her 7 ex boyfriends. He literally fight in a completely poetic license way, it is so great, Wright creativity during the most part of those battles is just unthinkable and surprises you all the time with some crazy and creative decisions. The story isn't bad and it does make sense, but the movie doesn't take itself seriously, so it is not a problem at all the nonsense stuff that happens.
I like how the movie does a lot of little critics on the society, mainly during the dialogues of the battle, and isn't scary to go off in these, you can see a bunch of moments as a big metaphor into some real thing. Another thing that it is very interesting, is that you can take for your life, Ramona Flowers character is aprisioned by her past, it is impessing her to go and improve in her life, and needs to fight it to move on. In Ramona case was her relationships, but could be anything else in some real life person. She always disappear of the places to run away from her past, for guilty. She does have a duality, that starts even with her name. Like in a video-game, we pass throw levels, second, third chances are given to us all the time, even when a game over seems to happen, they teach that to us. I love how the movie says that you need to understand you and respect yourself, it is told with metaphors and, for me, it was great.
The comedy of the movie is on point, Michael Cera character have such of a unique personality but at the same time you can see him in a bunch of people and probably in you. All aspects help in the comedy, the sounds, the cinematography and everything, surely you will laugh a lot watching it.
It uses aesthetically interesting shooting angles, using various screen formats during projection to portray narrative elements such as the scope of battles or the solitude of the characters. In turn, one uses the visual versatility of the director to play with the extremes that involve the coloring of the world of the long.
I believe that something that could have been a little bit better, are the action scenes, after the half of the movie during some fight scenes i saw myself distracted and not very into what was going on, maybe tooked to long to solve some fights, it may disconnect you from the movie during some minutes.
This movie is just great, it is unique and you have probably have seen really few things with more personality and more courage than this movie, it does have unique sounds asepcts, visuals and a great montage. You will laugh with the creativity of the director and the lines plus other aspects well connected and a nonsense metaphorical story that teachs some nice stuff.

It's really strange that this amazing movie is Edgar Wright's worst one!

Scott Pilgrim VS. The World

It not only takes guts to pull off such a petty and amusing concept to this extent but also skills on executing the tale, eerie world and portraying the amusing characters whilst connecting with the audience. Edgar Wright is in his A game and there won't be an inch of doubt after one leaves the room for he has got you right where he wants and that is on the edge of the seat. Although Michael Cera is hilarious the supporting cast like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza and some other cameos overpowers him on screen. Scott Pilgrim VS. The World is hilarious in its tone with witty writing that has smart comic sketches, rich funny details and amusing character that blends into a whole pack of entertainment.

And if you chooseIt has been several years since I last sat through the slog that was Scott Pilgrim vs the World. And to this day I still hear 'fans' of the movie talk about how it's the greatest video game movie ever made. This isn't true. And if you choose to watch the movie, you will see that nothing is good about it. It's awkward, stilted, not funny, and offers nothing of value. It can't even be considered so bad it's good. It's just bad. Although I am primarily a video game critic, and an exceedingly popular, well known, and respected one at that, I feel as if I step forward to call this movie's fans for what they are: Hipsters are who are trying to pretend to be nerds. Let me give you an example of what this terrible film does. So Scott is hanging out with his bros and his lesbian girlfriend or whatever and his psycho high school girlfriend pops in up in the window. The Zelda item theme plays. This is supposed to be a bad thing, why is that jingle playing now? It makes absolutely no sense and was clearly only thrown in because hipsters love Zelda, even though they don't play the games. A better video game movie? Probably Wreck it Ralph. Or maybe even the Super Mario Brothers movie. Even that film had Bob-ombs who did what they supposed to do. Scott Pilgrim is not worth anyone's time. It's an unfocused mess that doesn't really have anything going for it. Expand

Whenever Michael Cera is in a movie, there is always a connection between the Independent world and mainstream media. In other words, Cera usually stars in movies with an "Indie" theme but is geared towards the general audience (i.e Nick And Norah, Juno). In this case, Edgar Wright's (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World explores the world of pop culture using a combination of video games and indie rock.

Scott Pilgrim is an adaptation of the obscurely-known comic book series of the same name. Pilgrim, the bassist of the fictitious band Sex Bomb-omb, is a somewhat socially awkward Canadian that always finds himself in a bad relationship. He later meets a dead-pan hipster named Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and soon dates her. But before Pilgrim can continue to date the mysterious girl, he must defeat her seven-evil exes in glamorous video game-like sequences.

The aspect that makes this movie stand out is its beautiful and clever art direction. Edgar Wright, who is famous for multiple cult hits, directs a film that thoroughly emulates the feel of a comic book/video game. From the apparent onomatopoeias to the video game life bars, the audience gets the feeling that they are watching something truly unique.

The other main characteristic that makes this film work is, as stated earlier, its countless references to pop culture and the Independent-music genre. With music composed by alt-rocker Beck, Canadian band Broken Social Scene, and Metric, this music is stuffed with Indie goodness that will make a hipster smile in their plaid cardigan and wayfarers (Small easter egg: Pilgrim's roommate was reading a fake newspaper with a Neko Case advertisement in it. This is totally irrelevant but it made me smile). It also occasionally ridicules the subculture in a friendly joking manner poking fun at veganism, "mainstream" labels, and common memes ("The first album was so much better than the first first album"). It also obviously succeeds in channeling the video game world with its boss battles and the occasional Zelda reference.

While all this said, the film is far from perfect. The concept of the boss battle gets stale quick; What is amusing at first becomes repetitive and dull. The number of exes, although accurate to the comic book series, is just too much to handle in two hours that it made me wish the final battle would happen twenty minutes earlier. Additionally, the battles are equally immense so its hard to discern that Cera's character is conquering anything significant. The film has a run-time of 112 minutes, and it lost its steam at the three quarter mark. What also is flawed is that the movie is simply brainless and does not have much substance. While I do not expect a movie called Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World to be much of a thought provoker, I just thought that it was too silly for its own good. With an outlandish amount of slapstick humour, it was really hard to see this movie as more than a summer movie.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a blast. It is filled with so much action and humour that it is definitely worth the price of admission for music and video game lovers alike. There is no doubt that it will become a cult hit just as Edgar Wright's other movies have. But with its lack of substance and excessive silliness, it is disappointing that the movie could have been so much more than a fun two hours to spend.

Well, after a while, it strays from the comic a little, but they have chosen only the best bits to keep.

It's a funny, over-the-top comedy-slash-action-slash-romance movie, with special effects that are extremely believable, and never make you point at the screen and yell, "FAAAAAKEE!!" And as I said before, parts of the comic are cut out, but if you haven't read them, you won't even know.

The evil ex battles are well planned, well set and well executed (check out the 5th and 6th evil ex battles as the phrase "battle of the bands" is taken literally). The script also has a lot of heart and charm to it, and has something in it for everyone.

The story and film have gained an almost cult like following, and I had to see what all the fuse was about. The truth is, that this particular films represents everything that is wrong with our society and youth culture in general. Scott Pilgrim is the kind of guy who likes to label everyone and everything, but worse than that, he rants in circles, using constant innuendos, that only a fourteen year old would understand. The story isn't even that unique or special, as the film moves at lightning speed, which is slightly slower than the speed at which it's star, Michael Cera, delivers his lines. I really felt as though my head was spinning, with a mix of slang and new terminology, that simply didn't make any sense to me. As far as the story goes, it's just another modern love story, featuring a lovable loser in love, which was completely unbelievable. The reason is Michael Cera, who seemingly plays the exact same role in every film. He's this nerdy, uncomfortable guy, trying all these awkward ways to get girls to fall for him, and it never works, possibly because he is one of the most feminine and closeted actors out there today. I generously gave this film 1 star, because I actually did enjoy Scott Pilgrim's band, but aside from that, this film is a complete waste of time. It's star is unbelievable, it's story is overly complicated, and the dialogue is arguably the worst I have ever heard. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World may be your teenage daughters favorite movie, but if you're older than sixteen, you're going to want to skip this one. Expand

Comedy, action, romance, video games, music; "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" has everything you could ask for. It very quickly became my favourite film after watching it and I could watch it over and over again without ever getting bored of it; the same way that you could watch the same episode of Friends for the 'nth' time and find it as hilarious as the first.

Though the character feels quite different to his graphic novel counterpart, Michael Cera does an excellent job as the awkward Scott, Kieran Culkin is perfect as Wallace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a much more tragic version of Ramona Flowers but this change still works well.

Scott Pilgrim is a must-see and it deserves more recognition. Go watch it, you'll love it.

Once I got over the general weirdness of it, the film really took off for me and above all, is incredibly fun, but most importantly, it is well made. Edgar Wright's style is very abrasive here, since he basically just made it a video game/comic book that was made into a movie, but it really has a very cool and unique look to it that really made the film true eye candy at times. The characters are all pretty well written, though there are some things that really did not work writing wise and I do wish the script was better at different times. The acting was very good from everyone, really loved Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anna Kendrick here, in particular. While very, very odd, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a shining example of Edgar Wright's talents in the director's chair. Expand

Usually i'm sceptical if it's about comic book adaptations, unless it's Marvel/DC Comics, because most of the time the movies try to be to Hollywood like. Not this movie. Wright managed to keep every important piece of the comic and turned it into a perfect movie.

The only reason i'm not giving it a 10, is that although i find it a masterpiece, I understand if the common teenager or adult don't get the references etc. without them the movie is probably just a mere meh (5).

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World seems more like a video game than a movie (and that's the point), and it literally makes no sense, but it's quirky and funny enough to be watchable.

If you have any love for video games or the dating scene, I suggest this movie for you. The songs covered in the movie are also well done as os the performance of Kieran Culkin as Wallace, who made me laugh everytime he made an appearance. The movie is quiick, on point, funny, and full of badass. Expand

Although this film has a similar comic book style it did not have the same level of humour, despite the many pop-culture references, and the action scenes certainly did not match the best that film had to offer (such as Big Daddy fighting through the warehouse).

Overall your enjoyment of the film will depend on how bigger fan you are of popular culture and video games in particular.

One of my favorite films. Full of energy, visuals, black humor, white humor. Video Game turned into a movie. Great soundtrack. Anti-hero movie favorite.

An absolutely terrible adaption of the comics. They pretty much got evertyhing wrong about what made the source material so great. Michael Cera is a terrible choice for Scott.

You're damn right it is, but you know what? So are most of the other movies that Edgar Wright directed, and those were all awesome. This, my friends, is another one of his masterpieces, sure to make you laugh uncontrollably for at least five minutes.

To best describe this movie is to call it crazy awesome. The fights are crazy awesome, the way the characters act is crazy awesome, the special effects are crazy awesome, the fact that it takes place in Canada is crazy awesome (Yeah, I'm saying that and I'm Canadian. Sue me). Reuben Langdon making a cameo is crazy awesome. All the references to Zelda, Street Fighter, and Mario are crazy awesome. Good God, is this movie crazy awesome!!! ...you know what's not crazy awesome? The fact that this movie got trampled in the box office by Vampires Suck! That is just disgusting!

Was there anything I didn't like? Well...yes. While I do think Michael Cera did a good job as Scott, I can't help but think that he wasn't the best choice for the role. Maybe that's just me, though. After reading the comics, I also get the feeling that the movie would have been way better had they included just one or two others plot pieces. On that note, this movie felt way too short, but given how much I was enjoying it, it could be longer than all of the Lord of the Rings movies slammed together and I wouldn't care.

Is this movie stupid? Man, you have no idea. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not (hell, my dad thinks it's dumber than Blades of Glory), but for the rest of us? To conclude, let me just say that...well, I'm in lesbians with this movie, and if you have the right mindset when you sit down to watch it, you will be too.
