Great animation. Silly story, felt like I was watching a super hero movie. Raya is boring like most female main characters in action media they can't seem to find the right mix to make her interesting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Looks beautiful. Great start. Then once they invited the other nations in, it fell apart. The main civilization is obviously doing very well, and when they offer to unite the nation's into one they all complain and blame and blah blah blah. What's the intention here? They clearly don't want to be your friend and your whole civilization crashed because you tried. Then daddy dearest decides to have a heart to heart with his daughter and throws her off a bridge. Why doesn't he just jump with her? I'm not going any further than that but not a good movie. Characters are bland stereotypes of over the top ridiculous cliches. Story matches it well. Bored. Expand

Consigliato? Sì, ma non per un rewatch.

With out any doubt, this is one of the greatest movies made by Pixar in the last years, it's amazing, the characters, music, art, history.
You have to watch it, and let's pray for Pixar to keep like this.

Within the first 5 minutes I was able to tell my wife EXACTLY what was going to happen with the story. Laughably predictable story arc, characters are stereotypical tropes, jokes failed to even bring a grin, character development shallower than a puddle in the sahara, and an underlying pro-China message making me wonder who this was made for. C'mon. The cartoon bad guys have Japanese undertones, the obvious Mongolian is stupid while the Chinese undertoned tribe are the peaceful good guys?

If you can get past all that the story itself has holes big enough to drift a bus sideways through. While Pixar gets better with their animation the writing has taken such a nosedive there's almost no point in bothering anymore.

You can't convince me 90% of these good reviews aren't simply people that want ANYTHING to entertain them after the pandemic cause this doesn't rank in even the top 10 pixar movies.

It's a fun film all the same though. I enjoyed the armadillo character - it was amusing seeing the protagonist drive it through the desert (honestly!). It doesn't quite have the same substance as Pixar films but its a good watch never the less (this isn't a Pixar film I believe - (it's a Disney animation studios film). The animation isn't bad but it's not quite as good as Pixar films like Up, I'd say. I did like the traditional asian music played at times in the background and scenes in the dark showing misty landscapes with colour from shop lights lighting up the sky.

It's still a family friendly and entertaining watch with some nice effects - I liked the asian landscapes shown and the plot was intriguing enough to keep me watching. There's a good amount of tension depicted towards the end too. This isn't one of the best films of it's type but it's still worth a watch, so I'd say yes, it's worth seeing.

Beautiful story with fun scenes.
Sadly, the story reflects the current situation of humanity. Selfish, suspicious peoples are fighting against each other. Of course, Disney has a happy ending. I also hope one day for our humanity.

Raya and the Last Dragon follows the typical Disney fairy tale / animation template, so there aren't many surprises, but the amazing animation process and spot-on execution of the idea make Raya and the Last Dragon an enjoyable experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful environments and visuals do not make up for the first-draft plot. Confusingly anachronistic dialogue betrays the fantastical setting; jokes about undercuts, bling and breakdancing leave you wondering who exactly this film was written for (or by). It's easy to tell which characters had their design driven purely based on ease of stuffed animal production, and don't get me started on the infant martial arts master with the sentience, understanding and physical ability of a thirty-year-old who seems to exist only to appeal to fans of Boss Baby (or, perhaps nobody at all). The story is full of glaring plot holes (why didn't he jump in the water too? If the monsters are repelled by water why do multiple characters not use their magical, unlimited powers of rain and mist production to fight them off?), and the entire experience comes down to "Avatar: the last airbender" meets "Boss Baby" while failing to create a world that the viewer actually cares about or characters that we're actually rooting for. With clear initial messages for kids and artistic draws to The Republic and government application in man; Raya and the last dragon holds up to critically. Furthermore, it looks and sounds wonderful! I actually found the jokes funny and charming. It also takes risks, forcing the audience to forgive one of the characters which really worked for me. But, the story is nothing we have never heard before. The hero gets tested as a child, but then a family member is taken out of the picture. She goes on the huge quest, and meets a lot of friends on the way. It just felt like I had seen the movie before. But, what really drew me in was the fight choreography. It. was. great. (as in, underdeveloped or glossed over), but i think this is definitely worth a watch! i loved the character designs of the human characters, which is a HUGE draw-in for me, especially because girl characters often look awkwardly cartoonish compared to guy characters in disney movies. (this movie doesn’t have this problem at all.) the character design of the dragon(s)…… honestly sucked, but whatever. i also think it’s really awesome that the core relationships here are 1) a rivalry between two girl characters who are “equals,” which is interesting in this type of movie and 2) raya and her dad. i love that raya is a *genuinely* flawed character in a way that makes sense and i enjoyed the resolution a lot too. i think it’s easy to get caught up in specifics if you really want to critique, but overall a very nice story that i enjoyed :) the “crew” was also fun - just a little underdeveloped. the overall dynamic was still so sweet though. There is so much wrong with the movie: the bland "fetch-quest" plot of collecting gem fragments from each tribe was frankly boring. The voice acting of the two leads (Raya and the dragon, Sisu) was some of the worst I've ever heard, although I'm unsure if this was due to an inexperienced cast, or bad directing. Sisu's voice acting and lines were particularly terrible and annoying, as even her "Butt jokes" (which my 4 year old niece and 6 year old nephew would normally love) fell completely flat. The animation was great for the most part, until the characters began to speak, as the over the top voice acting paired with the over exaggerated facial expressions clashed with the more "realistic" animation style. Despite it's flaws and weak plot, I could give it a pass if the kids enjoyed it. Unfortunately (though fortunately for me), my niece and nephew, who are Disney loving kids, hated the movie. After almost 40 minutes of trying to get them to sit still, they asked if we could put on a "Disney movie". We ended up watching "The Little Mermaid".
As we were only able to make it to 40 minutes, I'm unsure if the 2nd half gets better. I would give it a 0 rating, but as some effort was shown, I have to rate it a 1/10. Avoid it you can.

Visually, it is an incredibly well done, and is the main attraction. In terms of proper character developments, the film does a good job in compared to past Disney releases such as the Mulan remake, but despite this advancement there is still much room for improvement. It will be vital for future movies from Disney to push this sort of formula, with tweaks and alterations that will strengthen the replay value of these films. The beautiful environments aren't developed and explored for time's sake. The action and score is great. The powers the dragon gets are unused. The ending is good. The dragon does receive character growth, even after almost dying. I thinks the story would have been better if they had Raya lose in the spine battle and the dragon not appearing to have a low point scene, rather than an action scene with no purpose plotwise other than frustrating her rival and revealing the dragon.
