This film, like every one of Pixar films, is a fun treat for kids and adults. It is totally worth buying on DVD or Blu-Ray. But while it's better than Cars and A Bug's Life, it still does not meet the standard of Toy Story and Finding Nemo. It's a great film, not a masterpiece like Brad Bird's two other films: The Incredibles and The Iron Giant. So yeah. It's a very good movie. Expand

With just light relianceFeaturing Pixar's trademark heartwarming story, Ratatouille is a brilliantly voiced, brilliantly designed/animated, and incredibly well-written film that really warms your heart and keeps you entertained throughout. With just light reliance on the occasional comedic element, Ratatouille is a wonderfully imaginative tale about a rat who dreams of becoming a chef. A story of both following your dreams to the fullest and that your surroundings and who you are do not define, but rather what you do with them, Ratatouille is entirely moving. It also manages to avoid being heavy handed throughout, which is definitely a plus. As a whole, Ratatouille is so brilliantly animated, it really wows you with the stuff they were able to pull off. An absolute Pixar classic, this one is both extremely entertaining and touching. Expand

They enhanced the classic encounters of vermin and restaurants by providing an enjoyable feature which honed the moral for being adventurous and different, as well as the balance of work and relations.

This original feature doesn't fall short with humour, although less than their average inclusion, the humour is by lack of a better phrase humorous.

I am glad to say that Pixar has once again (by adapting their own quote) ‘surprised me’, and I hope they continue to do so in the future.

Very good animation and story line. Creativity was visible throughout the film, although the addition of Gusteux's ghost was a bit corny. The ending was't the best, but at least the bad guy didn't win.

Once again a very solid piece by Pixar, good story, a few laughs, and an unbelievable emotional connection between human and animation.

While not as laugh-out-loud funny as the two Toy Story films, it is definitely one of the better Pixars, and a complete delight from start to finish. Honestly, the whole family will find it just as delightful as I did, and the film has a great message "a great cook can come from anywhere", summed up perfectly by Anton Ego. The story was highly original, if a little slow at the beginning, and deliciously engaging up to the last minute, and the animation was just spellbinding. The script, while not as irreverent as Toy Story, was very entertaining and touching, and I loved the characters- everyone was likable and unique, but what made Remy stand out for me was because he was so adorable, and his voice actor did a delightful job voicing him. The voice cast were very talented, and all did a superb job, especially Peter O'Toole in a marvellous turn as the "nasty" food critic Anton Ego. All in all, a brilliant film, that fully succeeded in what it promised to do, to make us want to cook. 8.5/10 Bethany Cox. Expand

Yeah, it's strange, but surprisingly this movie works very well, and I love it. Ratatouille is another charming PIXAR film with more great characters, a fun concept, and incredible dialogue with really funny and emotional moments. This movie never feels dull and is surprisingly entertaining for a movie about rats. It's impossible not to get hungry while watching this movie because the food and everything else is animated beautifully. Comparing the animation of the humans in this movie and the Incredibles is funny but crazy because of the number of improvements in just a few years. Personally, the score for this movie is what I feel is Giacchino's best. The Incredibles' score may be more flashy but I love this score more than any of his others. Ratatouille is another great family film from PIXAR and is often overlooked. Go check this one out or rewatch it, you'll be happy you did. Expand

There were no real surprises in the plot (the trailers give you pretty much all the clues you need about the major themes), and not nearly as much subtle humor as in, say, Monsters Inc. or Toy Story. What I mean by that is that Pixar's movies tend to really be two movies in parallel: one for kids made of colorful, funny, interesting characters following relatively simple plot lines; and one which only comes out through the dialogue, for parents who brought the kids (or kidless adults). Ratatouille had plenty of the former, little of the latter. Still, a good movie and worth seeing. Expand

The movie shows tensions between family and career but resolves it by depicting that they can also go hand in hand. One of the big intentions of the filmmakers is to make the viewers losen up their preconceptions and narrow mindedness. Above all the Ratatouille aims to convince that rats are also beings that deserve to be treated with respect (even if they steal sometimes). Another obvious theme related to food is making the viewer in times of fast food mass production aware that there is more to food than just getting your tummy full with little time, little money, and little taste. Even though all the characters have diverese and highly developed personalities, and the protagonists are cute and the story fun, it is not until the final climax of the movie that there is a scene that truly grabs you at your emotional core and makes you really happy. Ratatouille is a very nice addition to collection of the Pixar's animated feature films. Go watch it! Expand

The best thing about the movie, is that it showcases Pixar's "mantra" that being story, story ...story. That along with having great characters/animation/dialog, which you just forget or never even consider are digital puppets.

The humor was great too, the gags situations character acting all contributing to making situations that "kids of all ages could "get".

There is on one level the entire story, of Remy and Linguini, but then there are 3 or 4 or more subplots and a number of dramatic scene changes which almost felt like separate chapters of the main story. That all contributed ..for me at least... to keeping the movie very interesting right to the end.

In order to do so, he decides to ally with a young but incompetent cook. Directed by Jan Pinkava and Brad Bird, which also provides the script, it has voice actors like Brad Garrett, Peter O'Toole and Patton Oswalt.

This film is good, but it would have never been able to stand out without its adorable protagonist. The script works well, but is more complex than usual in children's films, which makes it more appealing to older audiences (from nine or ten years). The voice actors are good and have done a work without errors, as well as the animators, who filled with realism each scene. Designed for fun, it doesn't seek to convey great moral maxims and has scenes able to get the audience to tears of laughter. The soundtrack fulfills her role without stand out.

Fun in the ideal measure, a little more adult than usual, original and captivating, this film will probably stay in the memory for having one of the most visually lovable characters of modern animated films.

Almost all of it's humour is Jerry-Lewis-esque --- IE strange bodily contortions, (When the chef is throwing his arms around) or funny faces pulled during various scenes. If you like that sort of thing, or indeed if you find Jerry Lewis funny, fine. I found it puerile, and I suspect most adults would. The thing is, it DOES have some truly beautiful imagery -- IE the scenes of paris at night -- and some really nice music. But this is a COMEDY. It's nice to look at and listen to, but as a comedy, it fails. It's just not funny. Not to mention the characters are tired modern stereotypes -- the hopeless, sappy nerdish male, and the confident, successful, powerful female who loves him in spite of himself. For christ's sake, writers, half of your audience is male. Stop alienating us. Bottom line - young children will probably enjoy it. Adults best avoid it. Expand

This one is a silly kids' film lacking any real sense of pathos. The main character hardly even dwells on the death of his entire community before he gets excited about working in a restaurant. Meanwhile, the main human is almost totally devoid of any personality, and the main female human (who personality is Strawman Feminist) is inexplicably in love with him.

The little things are better than the whole: the visualization of taste, the gloomy critic.

I honestly wonder if this did so well among the critics because this movie ends by demeaning critics who write negative reviews.

Good ideas. Visually excellent. But not very funny. And worst : Again and again in an US movie about France, the action is in the present, but the Paris you see is like the 60's. Black and white TV, cars of 60's... I was disappointed.

The ending is predictable. I think Pixar needs to worry about becoming too formulaic. Just because Pixar changes from the sea, to the racetrack, now to the French kitchen, does not mean all these moves are incredibly original. In my opinion, they are the same story over and over again. Of course, maybe I was expecting something dramatically different due to the 95! overall score... Expand

I mean, why do these Pixar films sell so well and get good reviews? This was a clunky who cares type story where the main character was an idiot, and the rat was not much better. I get the point and understand the story, just seems like it could have been an after school special made for Disney kids. Just because they spend multi-million dollars on a film and the CGI sets the standard - I just don't get why our culture enjoys a movie about a French cooking rat over movies like Rescue Dawn or other "real" heartfelt films that actually take more than the actor coming into the studio for a day to voice over. The new Beowulf is another example of this. All it is is eye candy, and the story and character development seems to be fading with our short attention spans. Expand

I am amaed this movie has gotten such high ratings. Biggest gripes? Here goes! 1) I hate it when a movie establishes it's time period and then throws in anachronisms that make your mind go, "Huh?" For example, t's set in the '50's so how could Gusteau's be selling microwave dinners? And a major plot point is solved with DNA profiling? 2) The kid - whatever his name was - looks to be all of 10 years old and then we're supposed to a romantic subplot with him and the severe French chick? Kinda felt gross to me. 3) One too many villians. It's as if Pixar was trying to stuff as many evil plot twists into this script as possible and there was no focus. 4) How the rat - whatever his name was - comes to communicate and control the kid's bodily function is entirely ludacriss and makes no sense. I can suspend my disbelief with no problem but this "human steamshovel" idea was way too weak. 5) When it comes down to it, no matter how cute you try to make them look seeing hundreds of rats scamper on stage and especially watching them take over the kitchen and cook is more sickening than cute. The audience I saw the movie with was creeped out, the kids were restless for 3/4 of it and many kids were yelling, "I wanna go home". Some families left but I like a fool just sat there and said, "This is the WORST CGI/annimated film in many years! A 95 rating? Remy learns a lot from the chef's recipes, and shares his immense knowledge with a nerd with no talent whatsoever, using him as a puppet, and this bizarre double act self-evidently outdo any well trained cook in Paris. Moreover, the food critic whose devastating review made the former chef of the restaurant (our strange ghost) commit suicide, is enchanted with the dish based on the recipe of aforementioned chef, but prepared by our nerd who is guided bye the highly literate rat.
