The original one had brought something to the table with it's semi original story and universe, but this one is just a try hard sequel with average acting, sloppy actin scenes, cliche directing style with average at best cinematography and the story and the writing was lazy, dull, boring and mostly cliche and super cheesy. Which ultimately lead to this movie being un-entertaining and not fun to watch because it lost it's immersion with the world but mostly with it's characters. The characters where awfully under developed and not given motivation, drive and purpose. They where all just thrown in to one big plate. The visuals where the only element in the whole movie which was better than average.
Overall this is a failure of a sequel, and a below average movie. Also lazy!

Divertido a ver, persojanes poco interesante, batallas de Mecha sorprendente...Pero no alcanza el primero que fue una obra de arte.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How hard was it to just copy from the first movie? Was it necessary to have teenage pilots save the world? What's with pandering and blatant upkissing to the Chibese?

Also, when Gypsy drops towards Mt. Fuji and starts igniting because of attrition with air at nigh supersonic speed, the pilots are completely exposed because the front shield of their cockpit got torn off, are wearing no visor, and still not even a light breeze seems to be grazing their faces. 150M budget and nobody in QA or whoever proofread the script noticed this? Really?

Verdict: Pacific R.I.P.

This film certainly under-achieved, and I felt that too many scenes were too predictable. The fight choreography felt okay, but still couldn’t be compared with the first film. 7/10.

Although there are undeniably exciting action sequences, this sequel lacks originality, and is filled with mostly bland and underdeveloped characters.

I thought it was nice. It might have not done a super box office. but I thought it was a fun kaiju fighting movie that you can always have around if you need something stupid but fun. 6.5/10.

Pacific Rim Uprising is without a doubt the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life unlike my last review of South Park The Fractured But Whole I won’t go into some history because I just want to tell you how bad it really is. Ok so myPacific Rim Uprising is without a doubt the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life unlike my last review of South Park The Fractured But Whole I won’t go into some history because I just want to tell you how bad it really is. Ok so my first of many problems is the setting 9/10 it’s just dark room or big robot room maybe a outdoor scene now and again but that’s about it if you liked the first movie which I did I thought it was fine for what it was but they apparently thought it needed a sequel and it does follow up the first one while on the topic of that the start is probably the best part of the movie aside from the credits then all the robot **** starts happening and it takes a turn for the worst don’t get me wrong I have sat through long and boring movies such as Batman vs Superman or fantastic four (2015) and their both really bad and another complaint I have is the robots design their all just robots with swords and it gets old very very fast but by far the biggest problem I have with the move is the writing it’s probably the worst I’ve ever seen in a movie every time it goes in for a laugh I just end up feeling sorry for it. It even **** over the first one on so many levels I won’t say why because it spoils it for the both of you who are still interested so I’m giving this movie the lowest I can it’s a boring mess and avoid it at all costs 0/10 Expand

I don't think its a horrible movie like everyone says. It's nowhere near the original, but its still alright. Some cool concepts and still a lot of good characters that the original had as well.

We all thought one mediocre movie about robots punching monsters was enough, I think think it's safe to say that Legendary pictures disagree with us and want more robots punching monsters.

The setting was ten years after the last Kaiju War. However, the sequel it's just not more than a new low on the series, because of the weak characters, weak source of the conflict, weird character bonding, uncesserary or not important side characters that suddenly become important in the last, many plot hole and strange motivation from the main character to become a better person. All of this just make the series goes downhill from its
predecessor that can at least give us some decent story about a life in an apoclaytic world that have been ruined by the monsters or aliens from the outer world. In the contrast, the CG and the sound effect from the battle are still top notch in my opinion, we dragged back to our memory when the Jaeger pilots fight with the Kaijus in order to save their world and its really satisfying. The diegetic sound and some foley sound that are created is also briliant because it really can picture how massive the Jaegers is and how scary the Kaiju is. Lastly, all I can say this movie is just a milk or fanservice for the series, the only thing that can give this movie an appreciation is the battle between Jaegers and the battle between Jaegers and Kaijus.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am amazed to read comments like "the previous movie is not high quality and a brainless entertainment movie"... That hurts, especially considering how bad a movie can actually be...but oh whatever, people do tend to have unimaginably high expectations and needs to have EVERY part of the movie at the highest level... Good things cost money, guys. And the first movie was a blast, admit it!

Now to the sequel part.

I do want to say about the actors first and about the overall feeling and chemistry between those characters in the movie. I do not have anything against John Boyega...but his acting is so poor You do not even know what kind of a person he actually is. He looks like a thug who does not have anything to him....and here they tell us, this is the son of Marshall Pentecost, a Ranger and a fully trained Jaeger pilot... I don't believe it. I just don't. What happened with him? Why is he in the slums, why is he like that? What the hell? We do not have an answer to that... And the actor does not help us with understanding either... Just another Finn but in a Jaeger. The script and the overall plot is just so missing here, it feels like a cartoon for children. The monster's are here, killing and destroying us - "But hey, let's enjoy the good old joke about how people fall on each other and they look like they wanna have some private time right at the moment". The young cadets, that are showing their middle fingers to a still living Category 4 (while there is another Cat 4 and Cat 5 around) Kaiju - really awesome((( *sarcasm*
The previous part and the books showed us, that almost every Jaeger pilot (even a veteran) is damn serious when it comes to even ONE Kaiju, regardless of their Category. Here we see marry superhero team of Jaegers having fun with Kaijus.... all that while monsters are trying to destroy the whole world. What I felt after watching this film - is 1/4 of amusement and 3/4 of disappointment. The overall franchise had such a big potential, but yeah - it needed some effort. The filmmakers decided to go the easy way. I'd even say - the easiest of the easiest ways. That is why this movie turned out to be so cheap-looking(( You just don't believe in what is happening on the screen. It looks childish and dumb. The seriousness of the situation is just not there - everyone is happy and easy-going. The Kaiju's are being opposed only by 4 Jaegers, not weaponry or aviation. ALL the Jaegers in the world were either located in one place and reduced to 4 machines only...or the other Organizations holding Jaegers just did not care... Cause well, the previous movie showed that the Wall did not work and Jaegers were needed. So yeah, several years should have been enough to build some more Jaegers in order to secure the Earth. Anyway, the movie just did not receive enough attention and work in order for it to be full as the previous part. It could be a blast, but it isn't...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely terrible and an insult to the original. I loved the first Pacific Rim, it managed to take something as stupid as mecha and not only make it entertaining, but make it plausible. The rustic, weathered, utilitarian looks of the Jaegers made it seem like an actual military operation.

Uprising undid every bit of it. I wholeheartedly believe half the people who watched this movie only did so because John Boyega was in it. It threw all plausibility and grit out the window and just fully embraced the stupid, goofy anime look. I hated pretty much every character except the scientists and Mako (pretty sure they killed her just to try to make the movie seem like it had some emotion), I’m not even kidding when I say my favorite part of the movie was Obsidian Fury beating the crap out of Chinese offbrand Gipsy.

And why would you make a Pacific Rim sequel without Charlie Hunnam? That’s like making a John Wick sequel without Keanu Reeves. The most disturbing part of this is they’re considering making a third, with a “Star Trek feel” to it. I don’t even want to imagine what that will look like.

The characters, while well-acted, are forgettable. The plot is fair, but the pandering to a mainland China audience is unmistakable and distasteful. The music is generic. There is some humor, but nothing rising to the “today we are cancelling the apocalypse!” heights of the first movie. All in all, an ok movie to watch when it comes up on a streaming service. Expand

This looks amazing, the effects are great, the 3D looks beautiful. It sounds brilliant too. Problem is that it is pretty devoid of character. There is macho posturing and awkward 'jokes'. Also there are some really boring sections. Apart from the giant alien and robots fighting it's not a fun film full of filler. They made minimal effort to make the story unexpected, it's not just aliens come we fight them. It's the same as the first film, maybe slightly less exciting. Expand
