Tasked with preventing three plutonium cores from falling into the hands of a terrorist organisation Ethan Hunt and his team head back into action.

The Tom Cruise lead Mission Impossible series has been arguably the most consistent and reliable in modern cinema and Fallout is no exception. Full of everything you’d expect in terms of crazy plot twists, and even crazier action sequences, this is what summer blockbusters are all about. The two and a half hour run time just flew by!

Considering that Mission: Impossible is one of the best action franchises in film history, I was quite excited but it turns out that Fallout is not their best film, at least in my opinion, but I don't want you to misunderstand me because this is a great action film.

The franchise doesn't change the formula that has been following since Ghost Protocol. It seems that Tom Cruise finally found a solid formula to follow after the first three films because they felt quite different from one another but these last three films feel at last as a real continuation one after the other. Especially because the cast has probably remained. Notably a character who has become endearing; Simon Pegg's character. Even for the first time the female character managed to reach a sequel.

Fallout even follows for the first time the same narrative line of the previous film because also for the first time we have a continuation with the same villain, in addition to expanding his organization because now the Syndicate is not being persecuted, now there are the Apostles and an infiltrator in the CIA.
I think the Apostles are characters that will undoubtedly play an important role in a very probable seventh installment because I don't see how they can stop Tom Cruise who's still in great shape, keeping an spectacular physical level. The man is over 50 years old and he looks like a youngster of 30. Have no doubts, he firmly remains as the face of the franchise. The additions to the cast have been pleasant and welcome but Mission Impossible is still Tom Cruise's show.

Fallout has a good pace but also has several problems in certain sequences that I did not like especially the final part because I don't want to make a spoiler but the final part involves the helicopter chase that has been seen in the trailers and the sequence is impressive, the problem is that intercalates the action with other things and the attention of what is happening in this part of the film is interrupted and the transition never feels fluid even though they are dealing with a time bomb literally.
Beyond that I can only say that it's a pleasant action experience, it has impressive scenes - there is a persecution in which practically we get to see all midtown Paris - besides that fight in the restrooms despite not lasting more than 3 minutes is one of the best choreographed fights of the whole franchise. Henry Cavill plays a good role and although he may feel a little pigeonholed in the action roles he certainly manages to get above the image of Superman, even with the controversial mustache.

I totally recommend it, go watch it if you like the franchise, if you like the action genre and if you want to see a great entertainment film, quality entertainment.
Fallout is an excellent choice, honestly in a personal opinion, I repeat it's not the best Mission: Impossible film but I think that I can say it would be my second favorite after Rogue Nation. The original is untouchable but this is definitely the most solid sequel we ever had. So go watch it.

This was an extremely exciting movie with a true impossible plot where at any moment the characters you love will turn on you and try to blow you up.
The movie keeps the standard action movie formula close by but changes it in a way that it is still creative and original, so why wouldn’t you love it! Henry Cavills character added a extra flare of excitement to a already mind blowing movie. The only problem I had with it is the main plot points weren’t used and great characters had opportunity’s to make great stories but didn’t. The movie was exciting, full of action and Tom Cruises stunts and acting were fabulous. So what are you waiting for! go see it while it lasts!

It seems impossible (pun intended) for a franchise in this age (Or any age, really) to improve with each subsequent new outings for SIX STRAIGHT MOVIES, but M: I really is that kind of franchise. After really taking off with J.J. Abrams' "M:I 3", "Ghost Protocol" brought the franchise to a new height (Literally), and "Rogue Nation" was even better. "Fallout", however, takes it to a whole new ground. You want chase scenes? They'll give you car chase, motorcycle chase, rooftop chase, and yes, HELICOPTER friggin' chase. You want extreme stunts? Well, Mr. Cruise will give you the freak jumps (One of them actually ended with him breaking his foot), the basement shootouts, the toilet (Yes, toilet) fight, and cliff-hanging fight. It's not all about the actions either. There's the classic fooled-by-a-mask M:I moments, the smart underground spy-stuff, even the drama actually works (Thanks in large part to Fergusson). The chemistry among the cast is, as always, working like a charm. Simply amazing. The story might seem too complicated at times, but if you pay enough attention and dedicate the time to process it, it's really well done. Expand

Mission Impossible : Fallout

4 Out Of 5

Mission Impossible : Fallout is a plot driven thriller feature that may not be the game changer in the franchise but is deliberately a palindrome to its predecessor in its own edgy and shady way. Ticking for almost 150 minutes, it neatly edits out all its commercial aspects leaving the audience with all the husky bit which is utterly complicated to its core (if lost any focus, the rest of the material may come out as mumbo-jumbo); demanding the attention through it and allowing the audience not a split second to breathe. Having said that, it doesn't suggest in any way that the writing is smart, it basically is all cheat and all tricks, to a point where the audience start questioning everything (the pace too is uneven at some points which is frankly inedible). But this is where, McQuarrie; the writer-director, comes in and smartly makes it all glorifying for the audience to chew in the character's perspective easily. It is rich on technical aspects like breathtaking camera work, stunning production design and alluring visuals. Addition to that, the choreography of all the chase or action sequences is so finely detailed and lethally performed that leaves the audience in an awe of it. With all the buzz of the cast performing their own stunts; especially by Cruise, after a certain point, seems essential to get the audience enchanted into it and calculate the magnitude of the stakes projected in here and connect instantly. The only two reason why the feature fails to enter the major league would be its lack of creativity on the concept and the poetic theme that seems to be the missing puzzle in here. Cruise is confident, mature and has evolved a lot on portraying the character where he may be vulnerable but not weak. Pegg, Cavill, Ferguson and Rhames gets their own stand out moments which they hold on to it decently. Live Locations, exhilarating stunts, throat-slicing politics and Cruise at the heart of it are the high points of this feature that unflinchingly delivers. Mission Impossible : Fallout is an exuberant extravaganza that plays with its audience like a mere 4 year old kid and the wise thing would be to nod along.

My review of "Rouge Nation" (the last installment) pretty much applies again: His character is slowly evolving into more of a super hero; defying absurd physical odds, dominating every chase or fight and outsmarting everyone with ridiculously convoluted ruses. The action regularly pops up, but none of it is impressive (even the publicized plane gag is only remarkable if you know it’s real). The expected new tech toys are not particularly cool. While it’s basically entertaining, the big Hollywood formula has overtaken, demanding ever-growing stakes and lacking any cinematic originality to get it there. Expand

And by "it," I mean non-stop thrills, superior set pieces and stunts that exist without equal, and enough fun and surprises to keep you hankering for more. I still feel as though this was missing one or two signature "Mission: Impossible" moments (i.e. the Kremlin hallway scene from "Ghost Protocol" or that server pool deep dive scene from "Rogue Nation"). But even if the brunt of this installment's action came in the form of set pieces I've technically seen before in other movies (a motorcycle chase, a foot chase, a fight in a bathroom, etc.), these are still some of the best attempts at the kind of set pieces in question. A real, solid action movie -- the best of the summer for sure. Expand

It doesn’t help that it’s obvious that a computer has been used to speed up the “Run, Ethan, Run. Run, Run, Run” sequences. The actors are quirky, Paris and London are nice for car chases, but anybody who has been to these cities knows that it is impossible to drive that fast unless a movie crew has paid to stop traffic early Sunday morning. I’ve seen this kind of thing done before many times – and done in more interesting ways in, for example, Bourne movies. If a lot of the padding had been cleverly cut out of this film, it would have been a whole lot better overall. Expand

Good action flick with a better story then usual. Expand

In addition this chapter has a few laughs, a few tender moments, spectacular mountain scenery not to forget a rarity in a Tom Cruise movie let alone a Mission Impossible movie which is very homoerotic encounter in the bathroom of the Paris Grand Palais.
Tom Cruise gives a more than accomplished performance which has many of the men in the audience shaking their heads at what this 55 year old movie star can do action wise and making it look so easily.
He is aided by returning Mission Impossible characters played by Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Michelle Monaghan, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris with Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Cavil added.
“Mission:Impossible—Fallout” is Tom Cruise’s movie and he shows that a 56 year old man can be a hunk, a hero, have a little boy’s smile and make all his action scenes believable as is his belief that the world is a good place.
PS It is only 1 of two ‘action’ movies that I see a year! :O)

Like I said, the action and stunts are as grand and ambitious as ever. However, I was somewhat disappointed there weren't any stealth missions or operations that have become some of the franchises' trademarks as well. On the other hand, the story and stakes in this film are deeper than ever, making it all the more investing, and Cruise, the rest of the cast, and even Henry Cavill all turning in solid performances. Overall, it undeniably hits one of the highest marks in the franchise yet, but the sheer originality and variety that the first film had to offer remains my favorite, but as far as the sequels go, I'd imagine this might be pretty tough to beat. “Your mission, should you *choose* to accept it." I wonder, did you ever choose not to? The end you've always feared is coming.”

WOAH!

You know, I normally stay cool and collective when movies with this amount of hype blows up, but f**k it. This freaking lived up to the hype. I mean, wow. Probably one of the best action movies of the year. From start till finish, you’re captivated by the practicality of these action sequences. Never feeling repetitive or boring. Foot chase, car chase, or helicopter chase - It’s going to be awhile for any action movie to top what they did.

This franchise has age like fine wine.

First Things First, the action scenes - where do I begin? Or which scene to talk about. Oh yeah, THE BATHROOM SCENE! Holy sh*t, talk about a white-knuckled hand to hand fight. No dialogue, no music, and no shaky cam whatsoever. Rough and brutal with nothing pretty about it. Also Henry Cavill reloading his arms was the cherry on top. We will come back to Cavill later.

The halo sky dive scene was amazing and nuts, but what’s even more nuts when you find out Tom Cruise did the stunt over 100 times. Along with poor Craig O’Brien, who captured the stunt from the massive IMAX camera. This explains why it was so intense to watch. Of course the helicopter sequence, which could have been 2 hours and 27 minutes long and I wouldn't be bored.

The sound design is really fantastic and really detailed with everything that's going on. You can hear the whoosh when someone throws a punch. Gunshots hitting brick walls or whizz by, brought up the intensity.

Christopher McQuarrie returns as director for the sixth installment and I think he outdid himself. This guy knows how to set up ’the domino’ effect with certain scenes to surprise and make your jaw drop. Masterpiece in film making and shot composition - beautifully done by cinematographer Rob Hardy. While it’s unknown (right now) who will take over directing for the seven movie, but oh boy they got some shoes to fill. I don’t think McQuarrie can top himself. Then again, I said something similar about ‘Rogue Nation’. I will never learn.

And hey, the villains were pretty menacing this time around. A rare thing sometimes in these movies.

Tom Cruise is nearly 60 years old and yet, continues to prove age is just a number. You can hate or criticize Cruise all you want, but you gotta respect someone who puts this much dedication in life threatening situations for the right take. An action star who puts in the hard work. He’s basically killing himself for two hours.

Henry Cavill makes a welcome addition to the franchise as a mustache twirling agent. Cavill is best known for playing superman and made a big name for himself, however the movies themselves failed to meet his success. In this movie, he plays a big bully who isn't afraid to kill on instinct. There’s something deeply unpleasant about him. Every time he walks in frame with this stone cold look adds to the uneasiness. Especially during the fight scenes where Cavill shows off his physicality and fast brutal punches. This is the best I've seen from him. Justice League? Never heard of it.

The team dynamic was excellent and gives plenty of room for character development among the anarchy. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson are all terrific.

How is the actual story of the film? Well, nothing original just like the previous ones. Elevating on presentation and ties in with events on the other movies - Involving plenty of twist and turns. Some people may have an issue with that which I can understand. The film demands your attention throughout, as references are dropped left and right. The movie builds a lot off the previous film which you have to see or remember about, because if not, then you’re lost.

If I have to pick any issue, it will have to be some of the score. Now don’t get me wrong, I thought the score was good and blends perfectly along with the action scenes, but it did sound familiar. Yeah, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ score. People have already brought this up, so I become more aware when listening. Bit distracting as I had the Every Frame a Printing video on ‘Hollywood Scores & Soundtracks’, in my mind. That’s it really.

Overall rating: Please do yourself a favor and see this on the biggest screen you can. The action, sound work, characters, and acting were all superb. Believe the hype!

It’s not completely unprecedented Star Trek VI is argued by many to be the best as is Revenge of the Sith, but these films are outliers in the malaise of mediocrity that is franchise filmmaking. With this in mind, if someone had told you 22 years ago when the first Mission Impossible film was released that the sixth installment would still be staring Tom Cruise at the age of 56 and that it would be the best in the series, people would have laughed in your face. Yet against all odds, this is exactly what Christopher McQuarrie has pulled off with Fallout. It is truly one of the rare sequels that not only lives up to the hype but surpasses it. Expand

Story was good.. Although Grey shades to the characters as we predict.. The mission was so impossible, they made a film on it.. ;) Really, I liked the action sequences very much.. nothing like any other movie.. Some will say it’s The Best Action Film of the year..
Tom Cruise movies are always unique as he does all the stunts himself.. In this movie also, some Dangerous stunts were there but don’t worry, Tom Cruise is there for the rescue.. So fasten your seat belt & enjoy..
~ Tom Cruise, Ethan Hunt.. Sixth movie.. Still looks Fresh & Energetic as of it’s the first M:I.. Salute to the Stunt-man, Cruise..
~ Henry Cavill, Superman, sorry Walker.. So, this was the movie he was shooting for with a mustache which had to be CGIed in Justice League.. Hmmm.. Played well..
~ Ving Rhames, When humanity’s existence is in danger, who do you call.? Luther.. :D
~ Simon Pegg, the Good ‘ol’ Benji.. brings humour to the movie.. Mask is getting in his skin.. Ssshhhh No Spoiler..
~ Rebecca Ferguson, Killer Beauty.. She can kick some A, of course we watched her in Rogue Nation.. this time was none-the-less..
~ Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Mitchelle Monaghan, Wes Bentley, Frederick Schmidt, Alec Baldwin gave support very well..
All in All The Best Entertaining Action Flick for the running year.. So the rating is *drum rolls as always* Dha-dha-dhe-dhe..dha-dha-dhe-dhe.. Awesometacular

Tom Cruise once again pushes himself to the limit and performs amazing stunts which constantly show his skill as an actor in stunts. All the supporting characters are great as per usual but they all really add something to this movie, making that much more great. Henry Cavil, really surprised me in this movie I thought he was so good in the action scenes and in his performance as the character. The villains are good in this movie as well which I think most pervious instalments had problems with. And I have to say it again, the action scenes are just amazing, they are filmed and choreographed so well and someone continue to offer something new to the series that never makes it feel recycled or replied from previous instalments. This film has a more complicated plot than the previous films but that doesn't stop this film from being a fast pasted and extremely entertaining action movie.

Don't wait, just go see it on a big screen.

This is due to how difficult it is to feel tension in scenes and how long the actionHonestly, this is one of the few movies I've ever been bored seeing in theaters because it is two and a half hours long and you feel it. You really feel it. This is due to how difficult it is to feel tension in scenes and how long the action scenes go on. You might be inclined to think "but I like action so longer action scenes are fine." Well, you'd be wrong because the action isn't even that good and lacks the sort of emotional investment you'd get in a better movie. Basically, the villains never get a moment to talk and become actual characters. The final fight scene should be full of investment due to the two characters who are fighting but they never even speak to each other. The bigger, badder, and supposedly cooler villain doesn't even do anything. He's just boring and his fight scene lacks the emotional weight needed for it to be so long. The movie's climax is immediately followed by another climax where you need the villains to start talking and build their character a bit more if you want to drag on the movie like this. The worst part is that the movie is painfully by the books in the end that the few twists there are can't carry the movie. Also, prepare for stormtrooper tier shooting.
When it comes to characters Benji and Luther feel important in the beginning but then immediately become just sidekicks that stay in background doing nothing. The entire focus is on Ethan and Walker so they kinda do little to nothing most of the time. Ethan is a kinda generic protagonist with little to mention but Walker is more interesting. His character is somewhat fleshed out and the choreographers knew how to make him look a big bruiser with a lot of weight behind all his attacks. His entire look gives him the look of a smart and dangerous man. The love interest is boring. She sucks at shooting things. Moving on. The main villain doesn't do much and ends up doing very little himself and doesn't say anything smart enough to come off as a mastermind. Overall, not a bad movie but painfully average with an added issue of being too long which dips it even lower. Not the worst but nothing special.

Probably the best mission impossible movie in the series so far. Heck it might actually be one of the best action movies ever.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine. Mission goes bad and could now lead to an even worse event involving nuclear bombs. It's very generic but the journey itself is full of twist and turns that manages to surprise you and keep you hooked

Characters: Everyone from rogue nation is back (except Jeremy Renner) and it also includes Angela Bassett as the new CIA leader and Henry Cavill as Walker a CIA assassin/agent. All of the returning cast do a great job but props to Ving Rhames as Luther for giving a much different side to him in this film. Henry Cavill is amazing as an counterpart to Tom Cruise Ethan Hunt which makes me feel like the moustache was worth it. Angela Bassett on the other hand was very underutilised in this film which is a shame since she did good with the limited appearance she had. In the film we get to see much more inside the mind of Ethan Hunt and we finally know a lot more about his personality which makes this film feel much more like a personal story which the other Mission Impossible films lack.

Music: It's by Lorne Balfe so of course it's amazing

Action: Some of the best action scenes in the franchise and of course Tom Cruise does it for real which leads to some great camera shots. The bathroom fight scene with Tom and Henry was amazing with terrific choreography. The HALO dive was shot phenomenally , the motorcycle chase sequence was much more tense compared to the previous one and the helicopter scene in general was amazing. While none of the stunts top that of the Dubai scene in "Ghost Protocol" it was still almost as good and there are 3-4 of them in this film.

Overall: This is no doubt one of my favourite movies of this year and is something no one should miss

It has lots of action, lots of "now you see me...", doublecrossing gone to so stupid levels it hurts and in the end all of this feels pointless and flat.

This movie does NOT deserve a score of any higher than 4 out of 10.

What sets this film apart is how well it implements the practical action scenes with a great story. Without a great story, action is meaningless which Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie understand. Speaking of action, the action that is shown throughout the film is astonishing. There are several sequences that I will never forget and the fact that they aren't fully CGI makes them even better. Knowing that Tom Cruise is actually preforming the stunts himself adds tension and adrenaline to every scene. This is the first true sequel in the Mission Impossible films and it doesn't disappoint. The storylines that were in Rogue Nation continue and flourish in this film. The movie starts off a bit slow but once it gets going (about 30 minutes in) it never lets up and keeps you invested until the credit roll. I am so impressed by how this franchise has improved every time since Ghost Protocol and there seems to be no sign of stopping that trend. If there is another film in the franchise I will see it with great excitement! Expand

Unfortunately, despite my eager anticipation for MI: Fallout, I was really disiappointed with the film because it had many problems compared with the other ones. I know I'm suppose to shut my brain for these films but the convuluted plot, hollow character arcs, general lack of tension/levity and multiple plot contrivances made it very hollow after the credits start rolling. First, there are some amazing things about this film. The action and scene flow of the middle section is superb and by far one of the most exhillarating experiences I had. Even seeing Tom Cruise at the old ripe age of 56 pulling of his own stunts is a sight to behold. There is a very exciting fake out in the middle film, and much of the chemistry of the characters still exist in this new installment with the White Widow stealing every scene she is in. However, the film is filled with many problems that make it less enjoyable compared with the rest.

The first problem noticable is that the opening scene(s) before even the credit starts takes way too long and is excruciatingly ponderous. We literally have 4 different scenes which amount to roughly 20 minutes of screentime before the credit role. This makes the film really poorly set up to begin with as characters come and go, and we are uncertain on where the characters are, who is who and what is established after two years since Rogue Nation. Henry Cavill's character is also a bumbling iditot which makes his latter purpose of the film much more ineffective. The first act takes really long to get going and when it does in Paris, its gets very convuluted with little screen time to digest what is actually going on. However, that said once the actual plot gets going, it becomes much more tolerable.

Another problem is that some of the action and choreography aint that great. Many people raved about the Bathroom scene, but that was really short and didnt have much action as compred to films such as John Wick, Oldboy etc. It was meh. Secondly the music is relatively boring and non-existent, as it was clear the new composer is very different from the previous one that worked on Rogue Nation with all the ochestral elements. Also the film paces very slow to get to the middle act. The third act is also filled with plot contrivances but you would know it because they literally spend 10 minutes talking about the character relationships and what is going to happen etc. Another character intergral to the series just randomly appears as well during this time, whilst Henry Cavilles character is reduced to being another generic side character by the end.

Its a shame that MI:Fallout doesn't flow as well as MI:4 and MI:5, but the plot contrivances and plot holes definitely make it one of the most shallowest. I wish they had developed the relationship between the characters more as there is one crucial scene in the middle was executed really well compared with the others. It is an enjoyable film but one that you will probably quickly forget by the end.

The sixth film in the series is among the most outstanding, delivering a near-exhausting amount of fantabulous action sequences paired with deft character drama and the requisite life-or-death stakes. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, Fallout has ambitions as vast as its running time. McQuarrie weaves elements of tragedy and political commentary into action packed crime thriller. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie started off with a problem and never lost track of that problem from there. The twists and turns were great and always proved to be worthwhile to watch and the plot was very well thought out. The fight scenes and stunts were so well done, and everything felt very real. Tom Cruise has done it again as Ethan Hunt, if not even better. The rest of the team proves to be a huge anchor for Ethan and Henry Cavill has proved to be a great villain as well as a hero. Expand

Surely, if he had, the director would know the importance of a climax following a stimulating build-up. For the life of me, I simply can’t fathom why Brad Bird wouldn’t have been offered all the world’s currency to direct every MI movie from Ghost Protocol until the end of time. Presumably, J.J Abrams would have been a fool to turn down artistic ownership of both “Star” franchises, so I get why he was out after the fabulous MI:3. But what happened to Bird after Protocol? He delivered the quintessential and nearly flawless, espionage action thriller with the 4th MI entry, only to vanish, leaving the Impossible reigns to McQuarrie- a man who’s seemingly on some arcane mission to deliver “tantric” cinema. Every bit of protracted suspense, every drawn out thrill in McQuarrie’s MI universe S L O W L Y builds to a point when the viewer finally feels the big payout is coming, then...nothing. It’s as if he lives and revels in whatever the cinematic equivalent of “edging” is. I thought it might just be me. But when the last frames in the final Big Scene of Fallout projected in front of me, I knew I’d been right all along and now C. McQuarrie is just trolling us. Expand

Top craft including an effective no nonsense music score, intense state-of-the-art conventional style photography that puts to shame the stupid shaky handheld cut to ribbons fad, an urgent timely for the world today (if nothing new) plot, solid supporting performances particularly in Henry Cavill (Who knew he could be so good after playing such a dull Superman?), and most of all the never for loss of conviction Cruise who is that very rare movie star who at once is capable of extreme super stunts playing in the most extraordinary fiction scenarios while still believably relating on a down to earth level make this all surprisingly convincing. Had it clocked in 15-30 minutes shorter it would rate a 9 or 10 here, but longer running times are unfortunately the nonsensical in the age of shorter attention spans trend. Expand

Apparently everyone at IMF, CIA, and MI6 (except Ethan Hunt of course) are complete idiots. Angela Basset character should be hung for treason--or at least complete negligence. That movie could have been over about half way through, except the incompetents got in the way. Ethan wont kill good guys but he wastes bad guys (even though they turn out to be working for the good guys--dumb).... And apparently you can survive a helicopter crash in the Himalayas--two of them actually--without the aircraft bursting into flames or caving in. In the final dramatic scenes, Ethan and his team are all on intercom, except when they are not. So many holes. Stupid stupid stupid. Expand

The adrenaline rushing through me during every intense scene was a feeling that only these types of films can do and it definitely felt suspenseful. The film is a bit long, but the overall storyline was well crafted. Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill were amazing in the film as well as everyone else. The trailer did give some of the best scenes away, but I was still excited to see how things were going to turn out. The film is a bit predictable at times, but great movies don't always have to surprise you at every single scene. Overall, I would say even though Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was better than Mission Impossible: Fallout, I would definitely still recommend checking this one out. Expand

Great plot. Great pacing. Insane action. Cruise does his own stunts right down to climbing up a rope into a helicopter and then piloting it, and a bit of rock climbing, motorcycle and auto stunts, and that really helps with believability. This is the best Mission Impossible film so far, partly because it relies on events from the immediately previous film, in a big picture kind of way, which frees it of some of its 'set up' responsibilities and allows it to get moving more quickly. I honestly have zero idea what the medium and negative reviews here are talking about. If you don't like this movie, then I don't see how you could like action movies generally, because this is the best the genre has to offer.

For the record, having seen all the MI movies the week leading up to this one's release, here's how I rank them.
Mission Impossible Fallout i.e number 6 (the one now in theaters) - First Place
Mission Impossible 4 (Ghost Protocol) and 5 (Rogue Nation) - Tied for Second Place.
Mission Impossible 3 - Third Place
Mission Impossible 1 - Fourth Place
Mission Impossible 2 - Fifth Place (and the only one that is a stinker, except the last act is good. A ruthless edit of this movie could improve it a lot as the first 45 minutes are insufferably bad and could be cut down to 15 minutes).

But it suffers from the same problems that begin to plague every long-running franchise at some point or another. Mainly a lack of danger and a larger history that makes it somewhat inaccessible to newcomers. I mean, are the IMF ever not going to save the day? I think not.

We already know that Hunt and his crew are going to be okay so there's no real urgency. Luckily, the people behind the movie knew this and took a more sentimental approach that celebrates the characters and their relationships with one another. It's surprisingly effective, but only if you've been keeping up with the series over the years. Naturally this won't have any impact on those popping in for the first time to see for themselves why this is being heralded by so many as "one of the greatest action movies ever made." A praise I find to be a little overzealous.

The set-pieces are gorgeously shot, I don't have words to describe how clean the choreography for the fist-fight and shootouts is, and it's crazy to think Cruise performed all these stunts himself. That being said, I found nothing here that was able to top anything from Rogue Nation. How do you beat a guy hanging on side of a plane after all?

The plot is your standard collection of spy movie cliches, only dialed up to 11. There are more twists, double crosses, and hidden agendas than I would have ever thought could be fit into a single movie. And, big surprise, the new characters are the ones you can't trust. Because of how melodramatic all of that seems, Fallout is at it's best when it's focusing on the action at hand. Mostly because it's a lot of fun to watch Cruise and Cavill make a mess out of what should have been smooth operations. These are some of the most buffoonish spies you'll ever meet. Not only is luck almost never on their side, but they do a great job of regularly screwing themselves over in humorous ways.

Main character Ethan Hunt is by far the most compelling part of the package. The way he analyzes every move he makes to ensure that his friends and civilians aren't harmed all while being riddled with guilt over past actions is endearing. I loved how the film explored his selfless motivations and sacrifices all while being backed up by a wonderfully layered performance its star. This is coming from someone who's not a Tom Cruise fan.

Henry Cavill makes a better villain than he ever has a hero, but is still vocally stiff. His monotone delivery of lines is at odds with his wonderfully expressive face. Those looks of condescension are pure gold.

Mission Impossible is still perfectly capable of delivering a steady supply of thrills, but at the same time has become dreadfully familiar. As a result it's hard to care about the needlessly complex and somewhat melodramatic quest for plutonium even with the added emotional edge that comes from the returning characters and thoughtful exploration of its lead. This might be the best put together in the series, but it falls just short of its most direct predecessor in terms of unforgettable moments. None this is to say I didn't enjoy the movie. It can be very exciting. I just think that it, and the spy genre as a whole, could use a bit of reinvention to make things feel fresh again because the predictability is only getting more noticeable with each passing release.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty hard to sit through. I can watch the first MI film every time it's on TV but this was pretty awful. Riding a motorcycle 100MPH through Paris with no helmet (in the wrong direction!!) hitting a car at 40 MPH, bouncing a few times and then brushing yourself off before dashing away? Really? This is the stuff for video games, not movies. Who, apart from a 15-year-old boy, is going to believe any of this stuff? You can tell many of the reader reviews are fake because, as smart as the studio assistants think they are being, they still start their "reviews" with lines like: "The finest action movie of the year..." and "one of the best actions movies ever made..." Really?? Real user reviews are quite different and usually start out like: "This movie was pretty good but..." or "Something about MI was weird..." The final blow to mind-numbing boredom came when Cruise (who's getting way to old to be doing this stuff) finds himself in a helicopter and not only manages to fly it but fly it like a stuntman for 10 minutes through the most difficult Himalayan canyons and, Terminator-like, figures out the "altimeter, check, speed check..." how hard can it be right?
