Michael Mann can make any screenplay look cool and Miami Vice is no exception! The HD camera will change the cinema experience.

It was such a drag and was so boring and so stupid. There were a few cool or interesting bits but there were so many annoyances about this film - for example why were many of the scenes shot by shaky amateur cameramen?? Was the film shot by 12 year olds using camcorders? And the gun fights were terrible. It seemed like the characters in the film had unlimited ammo, and that they weren't aiming for the enemies. Gunfight scenes had characters shooting in random directions without stopping. They pointed their guns at each other and shot, but nothing happened. This was like a video game where the 'boss' had lots of 'life'. Intense action? No, just crappines. Expand

Way too long to tell such a short story. In a word, boring. No match for the TV series, with regard to acting or the songs. Piece of crap!

In this movie I could barely hear any music. Did someone turn down the volume?????????? My god, the end credits there was no music at all. Every movie has music at the end, NOT THIS ONE!! Was Michael Mann afraid of critics calling it "Un original" the same as the 80's?? Was he tring so hard not to repeat the formula?? I think he succeeded. I think I got ripped. Expand

It avoids the cliches of most Hollywood buddy cop films -- disjointed dialogue that serves as plot summary, partners screaming into each other's faces, villains dangling off helicoptors, etc. -- and instead delivers a raw, visceral movie oozing with style. There is no neat, little plot wrapped in a red bow for the audience; Miami Vice's storyline is byzantine and complex, breathlessly following tangent upon tangent while refusing to fully explain itself. Some may find this frustrating. I actually find it refreshing. This movie, like life, doesn't follow a straight line. Michael Mann supplements the film's realism with grainy camera shots, unflinching narc-dialogue, and entire scenes that unfold through silence and a stare. This is one of those rare movies where more is said through silence than in words, and rarer still that it comes in an action film. And come to think of it there isn't as much action as buildup and suspense. When the action does come though, it's absolutely explosive. The final 40 minutes or so is riveting stuff, with gunshots popping and and blood spattering the camera. Once again Mann's cinemetography brings you right into the heart of the action. All this said, Miami Vice is not a perfect movie. There are some cheesy scenes sprinkled here and there, and the film moves so fast that it's hard to develop a genuine connection with either Sonny or Tubbs, let alone any else. But overall any deficiences are more than compensated by the moody cinematography, understated performances, and original angle of this film. Expand

This The past couple of months I have been getting really tired of the typical Hollywood blockbusters that have been flooding cinemas. These new movies provide no intellectual stimulus and try to win you over with extreme special effects. This movie on the other hand brings much needed relief. It was awesome. I found it to be engrossing and very finely crafted and detailed. You actually have to concentrate to follow the story and the production was great. Things like the grainer film being used in more intense moments, sounds and camera angles sometimes being more documentary like than movie like all add to the experience. Definitely worthwhile!! You remake Miami Vice and play it totally straight??? There's not a single moment of wink-at-the-camera humor, no recognizable references to the TV show (besides their names), no cameos... nothing! All you end up with is a listless, uninspired snooze-fest featuring some of the grainiest picture quality I've seen since the last time I watched an extended-play VHS tape. Atrocious handheld work makes the frame shake violently even during slow dialogue scenes, which is about 95% of this film. Michael Mann has always taken as much time as he wants to tell his stories, but at 134 minutes, Miami Vice is a bloated, boring, sleep-inducing nightmare that is nothing like Miami Vice I love... or the Michael Mann I love for that matter. Good grief!!! Expand

The film is gorgeously shot as anticipated because Michael Mann knows how to make some stylish thrillers and this one is no exception. In addition, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx both do quite well in the lead roles and really have great chemistry as a duo. As with all actiony type films, it requires some leap of faith, a leap I am willing to take here as it never gets too outlandish. Sure, you can criticize all of the moving parts here and claim a lot of it to be untrue and far-fetched, but to me, it tried to keep an air of realism throughout. It never went too outlandish and unbelievable. I never saw the TV series, yet I managed to enjoy this one a good bit and it was really all I was hoping for. An entertaining, stylish, action crime thriller directed by the ever masterful Michael Mann. I am not necessarily surprised to see that this one is divisive amongst critics between those who love it and those who hate it, but to me, where this one won me over is simply in the style. As I said, it is all too sleek. It's really eye candy in movie form. Expand

Many people are not satisfied with Collin and Jamie as Sonny and Rico, for their characters have little or none resemblance to original show, but i couldn't care less. Sonny and Rico are cool and smooth in this flick but also serious because situation ask for it. People are dying, cartel is going for their friends so there is noting to be funny about. Action scenes in this movie are most realistic that i' ve seen on big screen except Tropa de Elite. That alone said, if you like Bad Boys or Expendables and you expecting something like those movies, this one isn't for you.
Locations are great, from Cuba to Miami to Columbia and Haiti. Soundtrack is best, totally suited the movie and scenes.
Downside to this movie is un development of the characters, especially Sonny and Rico but acting of whole cast makes up for it, with akcent on Gong LI and Luis Tosar.
To sum it up : This movie is not for everyone and it's not trying to be. Mann knows what he want 's and delivers it, like it or not. Just like Sonny and Rico.

The film by Michael Mann is based on the TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas and I haven't seen the show by yet but I am planning to. Heard about it has some kick-ass tunes. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are both Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs but they don't have the charisma to the characters like the original show has. They're boring as hell. I really don't have the treatment as I did with the other films by Michael Mann. Even the cinematography is not as good as I expected. I keep expecting to hear a Godley & Creme song at the end of this movie.
