Tout ce qui a fait la légende du Mans est réuni dans ce film qui ne se doutait sans doute pas qu'il deviendrait un témoignage quasi testamentaire d'une époque révolue... ainsi va ou plutôt allait la furie de la vitesse de ces monstres qui dévoraient le bitume, ces véritables tonnerresTout ce qui a fait la légende du Mans est réuni dans ce film qui ne se doutait sans doute pas qu'il deviendrait un témoignage quasi testamentaire d'une époque révolue... ainsi va ou plutôt allait la furie de la vitesse de ces monstres qui dévoraient le bitume, ces véritables tonnerres mécaniques du feu de l'enfer mais aussi des cercueils roulants tout en papier et remplis d'essence à ras bord...

A une époque donc où la sécurité était encore davantage un concept qu'une réalité... même si ça progressait... très lentement ! le danger était omniprésent mais aussi et surtout la passion de la course, de la compétition sur l'épreuve la plus éreintante au monde, d'autant qu'en ce temps-là, ils étaient seulement deux pilotes pour boucler ces 24h !

Quelle ambiance en tout cas, si bien retranscrite et restituée, on s'y croirait, via des plans splendides du circuit, des stands, du public, de l'épreuve entière et bien entendu des bolides et des pilotes, gladiateurs inconscients (et cinglés) de ce qui peuvait tourner à l'exploit ou au drame... Une mise en scène bien huilée ici qui met en lumière et en valeur les vraies stars mécaniques dont la fureur contraste avec leurs belles courbes et dont le rugissement s'entend au loin, très loin et passent et repassent pour un concert de décibels et de notes riches, graves et gutturales à s'en régaler les esgourdes !

Etonnamment, McQueen tire plutôt la gueule, mal à l'aise avec la veuve qui hante le circuit tel un fantôme venu demander réparation pour son mari pris par la piste un an auparavant... Une bien étrange idée, plutôt mal exploitée voire inutile, étant donné que les pilotes principaux sont suivis également lors de leurs pauses. Enfin, la décision de faire revenir le personnage de McQueen sur la piste (à un certain moment du film) est certainement maladroite et peu réaliste... comme si un patron d'écurie allait demander à Alesi de remplacer un tel ou un tel... non mais allo quoi ! un mot sur la musique de Michel Legrand plutôt jazzy ici et tout-à-fait supportable : on lui préfère évidemment celle des moteurs, incomparable...

Quoi qu'il en soit, on a présentement avec ce Le Mans ce qu'on a fait de mieux en matière de film sur le sport automobile... avec bien entendu le fabuleux Grand Prix de John Frankenheimer !… Expand

I found this rather a long drawn out film. I do like a good car chase in a film or to watch cars racing but the vast majority of this film, plot wise, seemed to consist of the viewer observing the various participants race down the track, with little dialogue present to guide us as to who weI found this rather a long drawn out film. However, there is some decent camerawork and some nice landscape shots but if your not a big racing fan then this won't appeal to you. Otherwise, its ok.… Expand
