I really did not like this movie. Ana De Armas is easy on the eyes, but even her beauty couldn't save this film. I felt so bored watching it. It felt like it was trying to be Clue(1985) and just didn't hold up in my opinion.

But the Foghorn leghorn accent from OO7 was really horrific. Silly to be honest. The mystery is extremely easy to solve, just follow the politics. The person who is the least woke is always guilty. And modern mysteries will never have a bad guy who is from the protected group like Marta, so you know she is going to be the good guy.
But what I thought was maybe too unsubtle was the way the writer had conversation that was 100% about politics, and made a slight bit at pretending that he was making fun of both sides. Really the message was very clear; Americans are odious, spoiled, untalented people who are living in luxury because of what their predecessors did. Its time to be kicked out of our house, and hand everything over the kindly, loyal, intelligent and honest illegals who deserve to have everything we now have. And if we object? Well, then we are criminals. Its not like the subtext is complicated. American characters are only good to the degree that they help Marta. the person who is a Foreigner taking the right to be in our country through criminality. She is portrayed as the hero, of course. I almost feel sad for people who didn't notice this. Other then that you have bad acting, plot holes, and a clumsy attempt to copy Agatha Christie. Except Christie centered her mysteries around family dynamics, and interesting characters. This is really all about politics. This what all of the arguments are about too. Its just a bit of soulless propaganda pretending to be a mystery. But Im giving it a few start because of the lovely house.

I can't not mention Daniel Craig's ludicrously over the top accent in this film, who sounds like a deeply thoughtful 'sleuth of the south' type. He has a similar accent in the film 'Logan Lucky' if I remember right. There are some intriguing plot twists, as we start to see more in terms of what happened from different characters perspectives/points of view. I also was quite keen on the main setting - a large, stately type home, which means many scenes have nice furniture and things in the background. This is certainly not a film to take entirely seriously but its a fun, whodunnit type watch - one which is fairly engrossing and thus I'd recommend it. Expand

In his minimal career so far, he has managed to capture my love of film every time. Whether it’s his first film Brick or Looper or even The Last Jedi, Johnson just has a way of engaging me that few directors do. Knives Out is without hesitation my favorite film of 2019. Is the best? Maybe, maybe not. Someone could argue Joker or The Irishman or maybe even Marriage Story, but for me Johnson’s throw back to noire mystery was absolutely everything I wanted in a film.

There are so many turns you don’t see coming, and even some you do and as time goes on Johnson leaves you dangling on the string time and time again. It was one of my favorite experiences in the theater this year and I couldn’t recommend it more. The entire cast was perfect. Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Colette, and Chris Evans show just why they are some of Hollywood’s elite. And, Daniel Craig is absolutely sublime. Trust me, when I say - go see this on the big screen.

General Review:
Hosting a cast of big name actors from the likes of James Bond and Captain America and many more this is a fun murder mystery movie which will leave you guessing to the end.

The Good:
The interaction between the family members was enjoyable and provided laughs throughout the movie.
A unique medical condition to one of the characters made for a very interesting and well used narrative tool.
Multiple mysteries and twists and turns intertwined throughout the movie but for the most part if you are paying attention there are hints along the way which makes the ending make sense.

The Bad:
As clever as Mr Blanc is depicted a lot of his conclusions were based upon people remembering the exact wording of conversations from an emotional night that happened days beforehand. And as most scientists will agree eye-witness testimony and human memory are some of the weakest forms of evidence.

Final Thoughts:
An enjoyable movie, at times I was certain I knew the answers to the mystery, and at times my guesses were accurate only for another spanner to then be thrown into the works which added another layer to the overall mystery. Would recommend giving this a watch if you have a couple spare hours and will be very interested to see what happens in the announced sequel.

Score:
7.5 out of 10 pineapples!

Incredible. Loved it!

Even on just one watch, it's one of my favourites already - I have a feeling I'll be revisiting this a lot. I had heard amazing things about this since its release and, man, is the hype befitting. It's a brilliant 131 minutes, even if it feels much shorter than that given how enjoyable it is.

The casting is impeccable. Daniel Craig is superb in the role of Blanc, I've actually found Craig a tad hit-and-miss - even with 'James Bond' - but he is utterly superb here; even with that unusual yet definitely entertaining accent.

It's by no means The Craig Show, though. Ana de Armas is excellent as Marta, she does a lot of heavy lifting in terms of making her character's situation fully believable. She's great from start-to-finish.

Michael Shannon is top notch too, I literally always find him fun to watch - from 'Boardwalk Empire' to, even, 'Kangaroo Jack'. Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield and Christopher Plummer are all fantastic too.

The plot is enthralling, it's crafted together expertly. It reveals bits way earlier than I was predicting, which made me worry it was going to all fall flat at any moment but it kept turning out to be the perfect time to twist the story. The comedy is also very funny, I laughed a fair amount.

A joy to watch! I haven't got a bad word to say about 'Knives Out'.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 'Knives Out' (2019) is a mystery drama with some elements of a thriller, which was directed by Rian Johnson. The script was also written by Rian Johnson. The actors who played their roles are Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson among others.

The plot reveals mutual relations in the family of an author of detective novels. By writing them, he made his fortune. As a result of his finance, wealth interest his family members. Every one of his relatives has their own reasons. The events in the movie are disclosed steadily, telling the story of every character, their conflicts and mutual relations between every member of the family.

The movie received several nominations. I wish also positively to acknowledge the acting of Daniel Craig and Jamie Lee Curtis. You will probably like this movie if you are fan of detective novels and movies. 'Knives Out' is a great one.

However, I agree with Rex Reed at Observer in that for a thriller, this movie is not very thrilling. Perhaps Mr. Johnson was going for more of a dark comedy than a thriller, but I think if you're going to write a murder mystery, there should be at least three or four hair-raising moments in it. There were one or two moments that were mildly surprising, but I expect more suspense and intrigue in a murder mystery than Knives Out had. The movie is fine--I guess it is pretty well-written for a Hollywood movie--but there are plenty of crime shows on TV that are much more captivating and engrossing than this film. Expand

Seeing Rian Johnson as the director made me think twice about investing 2 hours of my life watching this- would he actually craft an interesting, entertaining movie, with an real twist and get the most of his actors? Or will he use it another vehicle for his left SJW politics?

Lets see

Privileged, immoral, spoilt white family bickering over a large inheritance? Check.

Virtuous deserving poor servant of illegal immigrant single mother? Check.

Right wing supporter depicted as immature online troll man-child masturbating in toilet? Check.

Predictable surprises and zero twist? Check

Uninteresting characters except for the guy that gets it? Check

Terrible big name actor in lead role? Check.

The Thrombeys, are what seems to be defined as a dysfuncional family; corrupted with conflicts of wealth and fortune. As much as they hate each other, they wouldn't miss an evening to celebrate their beloved pop's birthday.
Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is a successful mystery novelist; mainly introduced as the beholder of the family's wealth and fortune. He was found dead with his throat slit and blood flowing from the sofa to the floor of his office, in the morning after his 85th birthday.
Official reports of his death stated that it was a suicide, but an anonymous tipper sent a letter to Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), believing that the truth may say otherwise. The letter is what led this famous detective to join on the investigation. Blanc together with two policemen (LaKeith Stanfield and Noah Segan) endeavor to unveil the mystery of the sudden death, and making everybody a suspect to be further questioned. The whole family might not be proven guilty of murder yet, but they're surely guilty of hiding unforgiving secrets and taking advantage of Harlan's wealth for their own pleasure.
Blanc might not get truth out of the Thrombeys, but one thing he knows for sure. There is one who can't lie without feeling the need to vomit, and that is Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas); Harlan's personal carer and nurse whom the Thrombeys call her as part of the family.
"Knives Out" is such an amusing story with a good laugh and tension, and full of unexpected plot twists. It is as if it's telling the audience exactly what happened and making us feel like we already know who is the obvious culprit. It turns out, we're just as clueless as many of the characters in this movie.
This Mystery/comedy movie by Rian Johnson is quite a masterpiece. Not only because of its fascinating casts, but also the well-directed and thought-out storyline that keeps people hooked. The movie begins with an establishing shot designed to inform the audience where the action will take place, and showing the relationship between the objects shown with the main character in the movie. It takes place in a a gothic revival mansion, creating the mood for a perfect mystery house. The interiors of the house is decorated with creepy props from unusual looking dolls, medieval statues, to the iconic knife sculpture; perfect for portraying the personality of Harlan Thrombey as a man of dark humor and mystery. All the technical process of this film is brilliant, from the placement of each props, blocking of each characters, the framing and the color palette of the house, made every scene aesthetically pleasing. The most significantly important piece is the painting of Harlan. It gives a statement that although Harlan might have died in the beginning of the movie, the painting of him figuratively says that he still owns the house and rules the family, and the sense that he is still looking down at them.
I say that it's fair that this movie has such high ratings and received many awards and nominations, for instance IMDb rated an 8 out of 10 and also an 82 in metascore universal acclaim. It's acceptable because I do feel like all the elements in the movie combined, creates this really entertaining story. In conclusion, I recommend this movie as a must-watch.

It was really great to see a lot of my favourite actors like Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig in a single film, that too a whodunit, one of my favourite genres. . .
The first 30 minutes or so felt a little generically convoluted but it got better after that and was entertaining to watch till the end. There was a lot of intriguing suspense and everyone did feel like a suspect, and I got a little "Murder on the Orient Express" vibe. It's not even close to that on the whole, but the few minutes of tension was perhaps the best part of the film. The next thing I appreciated about the film is that it kinda dodges the familiar route of telling the story. Things get revealed in the middle, and it takes a little different kind of route and becomes kinda "chase" movie. It's actually about what a particular character is going through, throughout the movie, and the hurdles that the said character is going through. Speaking of which, I need to say that characterization was really good in this film. No two characters could be exchanged with the other. .
.
What holds the movie back is that it doesn't use any new tricks to reveal things. You'll realize that everything that they went for were quite familiar and while serving the movie its purpose, it doesn't form a long lasting impression inside our head. And, the "gimmick" used for the protagonist is absolute a$$. .
.
It's a very nice film and a really good way of presenting a whodunit, if you can ignore the familiar tropes. Chris Evans, fresh out of the Steve Rogers role, gives a remarkable performance in a role of a character that's literally the opposite of what Steve Rogers is. I just got to see that Evans was a much better actor than I took him for. Craig is fantastic, but feels quite like James Bond lite. Others have done a good job for whatever they were given. Rian Johnson is one of the most underappreciated writers/directors, along with Mike Flanagan. .
.
Score : 8.8/10

The whodunnit genre is always full of twists and turns, but this movie in a multitude of incredibly clever ways takes you for an extra twist and a few more turns beyond what you would expect. The southern-accented Daniel Craig going on a thought spiral about donuts inside of donut holes was the greatest ending monologue in any film I have seen. Expand

Knives Out is a refreshing look into the oldest and best "Whodunit" Genre.

The film is very amusing with quirky story beats, it pulls a quirkiness and style in it's Story flow without compromising on the mystery.

Zod from Man of Steel vs Captain America vs James Bond was a bout of wits and words I never knew I wanted to see and yet the performances from Craig, Evans and Shannon are the best from the bunch. I love that Jamie Lee is still going strong with her performance a standout in itself. The supporting Cast was good enough even if they were just a back drop to the whole story.

Good fun watch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a murder-mystery, it doesn't come anywhere close to an Agatha Christie, or any of the other interesting whodunnits, there is one scene where one of the characters is watching Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote on a TV and it just made me really cringe, there are other self-serving references where the writer/director shoves in political statements and other trite references, Rian Johnson is quite obviously his own biggest fan.

There isn't much suspense at all, the movie plays out pretty much exactly as you think it will, it becomes obvious from early on who-dunnit and the characters are all caricatures, none give a nuanced and interesting performance. Daniel Craig fails at an American drawl accent and this is a distraction throughout the whole movie. They should have cast an American or a decent voice actor, or had him have an English accent. Ana de Armas has a large amount of screen time and does well playing the part, as the central figure she carries the film and its straightforward plot. Her central plot contrivance, that she is sick every time she lies, isn't used in an interesting way, it merely provides a convenience for the "detectives" who do almost zero actual detective work after the initial interviews at the very start of the film that establish characters and motives. All of this is wasted as the cast never become plausible suspects, there are only ever two suspects and one becomes obvious in the second act. There is none of the subtlety or misdirection of the classic murder mysteries.

There are so many illogical plot holes and unnatural events that the film falls apart as a crime thriller, characters walk over, throw away, and destroy evidence in full view of the police, who say or do absolutely nothing about it. There are other inconsistencies, the hugest of which is the central overdose plot and a cover-up that wouldn't work as a cover-up after a post-mortem. Its watchable and entertaining enough to pass a couple of hours, but I wouldn't ever watch it a second time or rate it as a good murder mystery, as there is precious little mystery.

Daniel Craig estava excelente nesse filme.

Nota 9!

It has excellent acting from everyone, but the two biggest standouts, to me, were Ana de Armes and Chris Evans. Armes' performance was so real and fresh that there is an argument to be made that wasn't acting, and that was actually her as a person; and, you can tell Chris Evans had a lot of fun playing Ransom, and steering away from being Captain America (who he was phenomenal as) and getting to play a sarcastic douchebag. And, unlike a lot of recent whodunits, this movie actually had some very well-executed surprises (no spoilers). And, above all, this movie was hilarious, especially towards the end. Twisted as never seen before, the movie tries to tell a complicated story of a simple murder, yet to be seen as a suicide which to your surprise it will. Daniel Craig's magnificent performance stunts you since the very beginning of the movie. Editing had to be extremely difficult in making such a movie. Music rhymes with the story as it slowly but excitingly moves forward. Chris Evans' brilliant vicious character shows how talented he is after years of playing Captain America with too few dialogues.

The movie its self was at least entertaining. None of the characters annoyed me besides being horrible people, but that was on purpose and not just because of bad writing.

There are few legitimately funny lines in this movie (despite it not beong a comedy) rather that was intentional or not I really cannot tell. The "Especially eat **** line was amazing.

The movie is self aware, in fact they straight up mention they are ripping off Clue. Which is bad you should never mention you are ripping off something. Regardless of the mistakes of the movie I had a good time. Also it's very odd seeing Katherine Langford playing a character being accused of murder after seeing '13 Reasons Why.'
