The fast edited fight scenes go on way too long, it's really violent, and the film can't really decide if it's an all out comedy or drama. At times it has "Airplane" type of humour, like it's making fun of the spy genre, and other times heavy on the drama. At one point they even poke fun of product placement in movies with McDonalds, again showing the "Airplane" style of satirical humour. Somehow it all worked for me mainly due to the spirited acting by everyone involved. Not really a film I would desire to see again but fun for an afternoon. Expand

It is quite true that in these days spy movies have become very realistic even though their tactics are still too advanced for the real world. Since Daniel Craig is James Bond the character has become
quite serious exterminator without the touch and class that Sean Connery and Roger Moore gave to the character.

Kingsman: The Secret Service brings back the irreverence and fun to the genre, cheerfully adding favorite elements of the audience.
The film is based on the 2012 series The Secret Service, a comic created by two superstars of the field, Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar

Whether it's Alex Rider, Cody Banks or even Spy Kids, a lot of movies have tried to adapt the idea of the 007 to younger characters with manifestly stupid results. In the end, the reason it works for Vaughn is that he is making the movie for adults.

Kingsman is halfway to the self-parody and the tribute, violent and modern at the same time and that takes its theme very seriously and its proposal therefore stands out and manages to be a fun and very concise work.
Absolutely recommended.

From the creators of Kick-Ass, comic book writer Mark Millar and director Matthew Vaughn, comes another mad, bloody and above all fun romp that knows exactly what it needs to be and loves it.

As a direct reaction to the more ‘serious’ spy films of the current era, the espionage action film pays more than a little homage to the Bond films of the sixties (clearly an influence on Vaughn’s previous X-Men: First Class) but never slips into the parody of Austin Powers or, god forbid, Johnny English.

Just as Kick-Ass did for superheroes, Kingsman wears its cinematic heritage on its sleeve and isn’t afraid to have characters directly confront the ‘outlandish plot’ and their own character ‘archetypes’.

Those expecting a family friendly throwback should be warned though. To quote Mark Strong’s character the violence on display is **** spectacular’.

The frenetic, dynamic action of Kick Ass is ramped up to 11 here as Colin Firth shows us a physical side that we have never seen before. Firth’s Harry Hart combines the charm and wit of Sean Connery’s Bond with the speed and brutality of Jason Bourne to make one pretty unique and memorable character.

The real star of the movie however is Taron Egerton’s Eggsy. The boy from the streets who is inducted into the world of the secret service by Hart could have easily become irritating and unlikeable. In Egerton’s hands however Eggsy makes for a great protagonist as he grows from petty criminal to gentleman spy via a prolonged training period that never feels like it's dragging. What brings charm to the character is his unmasked excitement and enthusiasm for the world of the Kinsmen, like us he knows this stuff is just cool, no matter where your from.

No classic spy film would be complete without a ‘colourful megalomaniac’ trying to take over the world and who better then Mr Samuel L. Jackson to fill that role. As tech billionaire Valentine, Jackson is having enormous fun hamming it up without ever becoming Dr Evil; as he so eloquently puts it — ‘this ain’t that kind of movie’.

From the outset its clear that everyone involved in the project is having the time of their lives and it’s hard for that to not translate offscreen.

Although sometimes things my go a bit too far, and in some cases the films CGI lets it down, Kingsman is a funny, clever and gloriously violent tribute to the spy films of old. I don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but I would definitely like to see a sequel, although hopefully one directed by Matthew Vaughn and not a repeat of the mess that was Kick-Ass 2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a spy/action/comedy film, which features themes including revenge and social class. First off, this is a pretty slick, fast paced film from the very start. Its quite stylish and elements of it were reminiscent of a James Bond (type) film - the fast paced action, decent special effects including numerous explosions and a menacing musical score in the background of many scenes. However, what rung true most in regards to this comparison were the presence/use of imaginative fancy gadgets. It also reminded me somewhat of The Avengers, due to the natty suits worn by Harry.

It is certainly an easy watch, with the plot (which is rather thin on the ground really) not exactly complicated. Its the sort of film which is good to watch if your wanting to get your mind off things, to distract you for a couple of hours or so (its 2 hours and 8 minutes long, for the record) and thus to switch off. I presume it had quite a high budget as the visual effects and the general style and use of light and effects present very much give it that appearance. I felt it was quite gripping at times, with some real near miss type scenarios taking place. It is quite comic in terms of some of the characters, with the main characters Harry Hart and Valentine, being particularly so. Cast wise, Colin Firth was quite amusing as Harry - playing very much the smooth, debonair English gentleman. He plays the role straight, seeming to take everything very seriously and having (bizarrely) high expectations of peoples social behaviour. His character is somewhat the epitome of an English artistocrat, very neatly clothed etc. if that helps paint a picture in your head of him. Meanwhile, Samuel L Jackson plays Valentine, the technology genius, who is a decent match for Harry, given he's also very quick witted, sharp and determined. It looked like he had a lot of fun while shooting the film, as he has that look of casual glee about himself, as has been the case in other similar fast paced films he's appeared in. There are numerous other big names present in the cast, which include Mark Strong as Merlin, Mark Hamill as Professor Arnold and Michael Caine as Arthur, while Taron Egerton plays another key role, that of Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin. Caines character isn't present for particularly long overall, although when he is in a scene, he plays his character much as Firth does his, very straight, with an air of 'so what?' about it. They are both clearly very much examples of previous generations trying to recruit in the younger eneration. I felt there was an air of satire present overall, although I'm not sure if it would be fair to brand the whole film overall as a spoof or a parody as such.

Content wise, unsurprisingly this film isn't for the very faint hearted, containing some moderately graphic violence - some quite bloody, with bloody bodily injuries shown. Some of the violence is somewhat comic, in that it didn't seem to me especially likely to happen and the characters exaggerated movements and swordsmanship style abilities. The film also features strong language, including racist remarks, sex references and an instance of brief partial nudity. There is also a scene featuring threat towards animals, which may upset or frighten some - I thought I better mention that. There are one or two scenes with violence which are somewhat prolonged and could frighten younger viewers but then this film has a 15 rating anyway, which sounds about right to me due primarily to the bloody violence of course.

I also noticed the presence of a certain tabloid newspaper which isn't much appreciated in Liverpool (to put it one way), very much on show in a number of scenes, with various headlines from the paper over the years having been framed and displayed in the office where said scenes are set. I'm not especially fond of the publication and it does seem a bit crass, or perhaps naff is a more approriate term?, to be showing such an obvious product placement. I can only presume 'good' old Mr. Murdoch paid out a fair bit for it...hmmm, well, whether that makes any difference to how you may feel about, or view, the film is something I'll leave for you to decide.

Overall, yes I would recommend this film. Its an easy watch, quite slick and stylish, featuring decent special effects and with a surprisingly good appearance from Colin Firth, its worth a watch. However, it most certainly isn't perfect - some may well be put off by the bloody violence and brief scenes of injuries shown, plus I did feel that some aspects of the plot were a bit thin on the ground, or lacking believability, though I suppose it isn't really the sort of film your meant to take especially seriously. Then there's also the fact that, as mentioned earlier, there is a somewhat naff seeming big product placement for a certain newspaper that seemed a bit unnecessarily tacky but this may or may not bother you.

This is a film that I didn’t expect much out of and I’m glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was. Every year that is that big dumb action movie that is a lot of fun last year it was Guardians of the Galaxy, the year before it was Pacific Rim, this year it is Kingsmen. We are in the dry season and dumping ground of film where nothing great comes out as I eagerly await the two or three good films that will come out in the summer while waiting for the last quarter when all the best films will likely come out. In such a time a fun film like Kingsmen is welcomed with upon arms. This probably won’t be on my Top 10 list this year but will definitely get an honorable mention because it was a fun movie with a lot of memorable scenes, jokes, and characters. Expand

I think a better main actor that fit the badboy bill - maybe a Tim Hiddleston or Andrew Garfield would have worked better I think.
Colin Firth does a great job, as does the incredible Michael Caine (although limited in time), and SLJ is a treat as well. All others are second fiddle.
In summary, see it in theaters. if you like Bond-like spy movies. I would wait for it on VOD or Redbox to be surprised.

I was not a fan of the fast-forwarding action parts, but the slow-mo action was nice and some of the fight choreography was sweet. For the most part the fights were a let down though. There's significant gore/dismemberment. Theres a sprinkling of parkour in here as well. Had difficulty a handful of times understanding what the bloody hell the actors were saying, but it was for the most part understandable. Some of the dry British humor and jokes went over my head (and most of the audiences, judging from the amount of laughter at some parts and complete lack of them in others where it was apparently supposed to be a funny scene).

Overall, not terrible but not great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Kingsman : The Secret Service is not a perfect action movie or deliver something new , but for sure it delivers a lot of fun "

After a disaster start of Hollywood action movie of the past couple months for example Jupiter Ascending , Taken 3 or Blackhat , we're hoping that the director Matthew Vaughn who brought us a lot of great movies like Stardust , Kick-Ass or X-Men : First Class will come to change this bad flow of Hollywood Action movie .

First thing first , this movie is pretty fun to watch and i love the decision of Matthew Vaughn to embrace that "Over the Top" of this movie and make the movie out kind of a mix between brutal bloody action scene and the black comedy stuff which makes this movie pretty unique.

One other things that need to be talk is the Action Scene , it is really great and it proof that Matthew Vaughn can really directed the action scene well with his beautiful camera angle , camera movement and the flow of his characters movement just feels so alive that make the action scene always feels really cool.

But i have to say that Kingsman : The Secret Service is not a perfect movie , with it's plot is pretty repetitive and predictable.

The Characters them selves is also pretty repetitive and kind a boring with the same back story that has been used for like 100 times already , for example the mentor who wants to redeem his sin in the pass by taken the new crew , the bad guys that sees the human evil and try to "safe the world" in his way , the stepfather who always do bad things try to harm to the hero and his mom , a kid who lose something in the past and has to redeem himself and so on , these characters are so repetitive and also not set-up well enough to make me care about them that much.

I also like the point of the movie that tries to satire the politics , class of society and Global Warming problems , unfortunately these point of the movie has not been dig deep enough to make it memorable or make me feels like these point of the movie are actually really really big deal in the real world , which is kind of a shame.

Overall Kingsman : The Secret Service is not a perfect movie by any mean , it still have a repetitive plot , repetitive boring characters and sometimes the bad set-up of story by Matthew Vaughn , But even then it is still a fun movie to watch especially with it's amazing action scene and over the top black comedy style.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At first it is a fun twist and update to the Bond brand of spy genre. But when the unexpected violent Tarantino church scene happens, the movie takes a sudden lurch into a completely different area altogether. It tries to regain its light and fast paced momentum when the good guys decide a genocide of their own is the only option. Suddenly we are in an Austin Powers movie with heads exploding into colorful fireworks and pretty clouds and musical anthems playing in the background. The movie did not seem to know what genre it was in or how sensitive to be to death and gore. This non commitment to a theme left the movie feeling somewhat schizophrenic.
The saving grace of the Kingsmen were its actors. Firth is always on point and delivers an outstanding character. Jackson, however, was the real surprise here. Stepping out of his box for this role and giving us a goofy guy we could love to hate. Boutella's character was worthy of any Bond villain/ henchmen in the history of the genre. She made the film exciting!
The story was decent, it just could have done without the violent mass murder church and Austin Powers genocide tangents. They had a fun old school plot, that was well executed in a modern high tech way. But in the end I'd say I've waved off more folks than I've encouraged to go see it. The unexpected violence of the church scene was just off putting!

Samuel L. Jackson was absolutely amazing as the villain, and his rapport with Colin Firth was wonderful--their shared acknowledgement of spy movie tropes made for some great meta moments. However, I found the plot wasn't quite compelling enough to keep me engaged for the long-ish runtime, especially since the ending is a bit drawn out. It straddled the line of satire and sincerity in an interesting way, mocking and embracing the genre's tropes simultaneously. It was a solid movie with a lot of amazing sequences, but for me it just didn't quite come together. However, I should freely admit that spy movies are not my favourite genre, so there were probably references I missed out on. Still, an enjoyable romp-y kind of movie with fun action and dialogue. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great plot and likable characters are muddied by an unnecessary amount of F-bombs and over the top violence.

The movie had a great plot. Yeah, it was vanilla. It was plain, but people buy plain. Vanilla sells. Colin Firth uses his suave and cool to his advantage. Mark Strong barely does anything and still manages to be one of the best parts of the movie. I don’t remember seeing Taron Egerton before this movie, but he’s cool. Samuel L. Jackson’s character had a unique and believable evil plot, and he had a believable motive.

I don’t mind F-bombs in movies. An F-bomb is a great tool in the hands of a writer, and can be used to convey an extreme emotion, as it is an extreme word. That is exactly why I don’t like it in this movie. They lost their meaning and became stupid sentence filler. If you replaced every F-bomb with “shucks”, the movie would be hilarious.

The violence was completely unnecessary. I’m fine with killing in movies. Bad guys can kill a huge amount of innocent people, it makes you hate them and root for the good guy. The good guy can kill an inordinate amount of bad guys. They got what was coming to them, and the innocent people they killed are finally avenged. The grotesque violence didn’t serve its purpose. You would never try to get Hitler over as a bad guy by showing the Holocaust with “born to be wild” in the background. But the scene in the church did just that. Something awful was happening, and they played rock music, because it was supposed to be “fun”.

The movie markets itself as “fun”. I think a thesaurus is necessary for the marketing department, because “fun” is not a synonym for “stupid”. The gore-porn that happens in this movie doesn’t even serve a purpose, it’s there just to be there.

And while I’m on the subject of the church scene, I know that nobody likes Westboro, but even the most demented, sick minded psychopath wouldn’t wish for what happened in the movie to happen to someone who just happened to disagree with them, even if their opinion was stupid and wrong.

They try extremely hard, with the excess of F-bombs and over the top violence to tell you that this movie is not just another spy movie. Without the F-bombs and violence, it is just another spy movie. It’s a good spy movie, but it is vanilla. But they try to trick you in to thinking it’s not by taking you to cold stone and mixing in heath bars. Sorry, frozen heath bars get stuck in your teeth. You just ruined what could have been good ice cream. The movie itself tries to tell you it’s different, almost flat out. Sam Jackson literally says “It’s not that kind of movie”.

You’re not fooling me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some funny lines, some amazing stunts, all sorts of annoying holes in the plot.

They lost me at thirty seconds into the film...five soldiers are questioning a terrorist tied to a chair and *surprise* he has an explosive vest. One soldier jumps on him *boom*. Both bad guy and good guy seem to be intact, yet the other soldiers don't bother to check to see if the soldier is dead, they just take off their helmets and "dammit, he was a fine man, he died to save us all". I would think that checking for explosives would be fairly basic thing to do before questioning someone, and overall if someone stops moving, it's often premature to start saying what a great guy they were before, I don't know, checking for pulse?

Then of course, as a reward for jumping on the baddie, the son of the soldier years later gets a shot to be James Bond Junior. Of course normal training would be boring, so let's send him to a cross between hunger-games and hogwarts and make it a winner-takes-all competition. Why train and prepare eight fairly good agents when instead you can make it a contest so only one can be the winner. Harry, Katniss? That you? And why teach them to, I don't know, throw a punch or shoot when instead you can flood their dormitory for no reason to see if they can survive or see if they can precision parachute and land on the logo of the school. Of course for no apparent reason they are issued a puppy and (spoiler alert) the final challenge is they are handed a gun and they have to shoot their own dog.

Does this film have a villian? Yes, Samuel L Jackson with an annoying lisp who invites the super-spy to his mansion and for some reason serves McDonalds to the super-proper british super spy as some sort of attempt at a racist joke..."Well I say old chum, those charming black yanks..." He has a homidical assistant who has prosethetic feet that are swords.

The conflict of the story is that the evil 'Valentine' gives free Sim cards to everyone, then manages to convince all the world leaders to join him and have a little circuit board sewn into their neck. Spoiler alert, the sim card turns everyone into a homiciadal maniac and the circuit board seems to have two purposes, it's a tracking/listening device and it makes your head explode. Spoiler alert, everyone turns into a homicidal maniac and those foolish old government leaders all have their heads explode (and it's colorful too).

This movie aims to be a kid film, yet, let me count, we see a whole church full of people violently killed, the mentor to the hero--he is shot and killed point-blank, the villian is impaled on some three foot sword thing, there are the typical '500 guards who cannot hit the side of a barn with an automatic weapon' yet die instantly when the hero hits them, and of course we have the head of every world leader explode.

This is a long film where if they cut about 1/3 of the scenes and spent about 1/3 more on writing a better plot, they would really have had something. This is one of those films where if you were really stoned, you would just totally be lost and have no idea what was going on, yet you would enjoy it.

Unfortunately, he succumbed to the lowest common denominator of viewers. For instance, he missed a great opportunity with all his big over-the-top mob fight scenes...how come we didn't go back to the pub and see the homeboys having a pint -- then pow -- the fight urge comes on out of nowhere. Instead of that stupid baby in the bathroom scene to manipulate emotions.
The gratuitous anal ran counter to movie's whole philosophy of how a gentleman conducts himself. The film could have teased that ending (haha) without going for the cheap shot -- besides all those people should have been released from their cells. That's what heroes do, not that lame-ass royal ending.
Many scenes dragged on and the score sucked...the typical overuse of music to make you think something is happening when it's just a guy sitting in a plane and some other guys walking towards him.
This film could have stayed to its potentially sophisticated edge but decided to take the low road.

What could have been a great start to an exciting new super-spy series is dragged down by tacky, sophomoric humor and gleeful violence that sometimes goes so absurdly off the rails that it overwhelms the excitement and the story. There were several times that my eyes rolled so far back that they practically fell out of my head.

I understand that Sam Jackson's silly lisp and over the top scenery-chewing were part of an attempt to update the James Bond super-villain but for me it was distracting and outright annoying, causing me to dread his time on screen.

Sadly, if Kingsman gets the sequel that it so clearly expects it's unlikely that they will use that opportunity to balance the elements; they'll have to out-do this film's excesses to appeal to it's intended audience of teenage boys who likely won't object.

Everyone calls this movie 'fun' and 'an awesome spy movie' when all I saw was some confused writing and bland characters being thrown on film. And don't get me wrong I know it's supposed to be a parody of the old spy movies but it's seriously executed poorly. I mean, even from the first moment of the film you're confused when the bouncy bubbly letters of the title come in and you think to yourself "What spy movie introduces itself with bouncy letters??" This is just a taste of some of the confused writing that the film contains. Honestly there's not much more I can say about this movie without repeating myself but seriously I don't recommend this movie to anyone but I guess I'm wrong because whenever I bring this movie up to my friends they loved it so I guess I'm a minority here. To drive the point home, Samuel Jackson is the villain in this movie. Cool right? No, because they turn him into a backwards-hat-wearing teenage douchebag who spouts catchphrases and language that makes no sense in the movie. The only thing that saves this movie from a 1 or a 2 out of 10 is the action scenes that are fairly well choreographed and use slow-motion to actually show the action and it's pretty well done. Other than that though I didn't find anything worth seeing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A really weird mix of comedy, that is not that funny, and action drama, which is only somewhat entertaining. I did not like this movie. The scene that destroyed its little credibility was the Kingsman killing all those people in the church, which came out of nowhere I thought in the films progression and did not serve any bigger message or theme that the movie was trying to say. It has such unnecessary and gory violence, I was turned off by that and didn't really care much for the rest of the film. The main character, Eggsy, is not so likeable and I didn't see much character progression from his training as a Kingsman, only his combat abilities. He should be more gentlemanly in my opinion and a more mature person, but he seems only slightly more mature caring about saving the world however still does not respect others much, only Harry slightly. This movie in my opinion either needed to be a more serious action drama or a far more funnier comedy. As it stands, it is a boring and dull comedy/action movie, with little to no plot or characters to care about. : Why people liked this movie so much....I guess they have very low expectations for movies. I'll stick with Casino Royale and classics that put this movie to shame. Expand

Firstly, the action sequences are well done, but are completely pointless and over the top (thanks to stupid CGI blood effects). In line with this, the plot as a whole was beyond dumb and unbelievable. Spy films, though often outlandish, deal with things that you could see actually happening. This one felt more like a science fiction film masquerading as a spy film, while not being completely either. In addition, the writing was incredibly weak. I have no problem with swearing, but it was used as a crutch throughout and overused. Finally, it was never funny. For a film trying to be a satire of spy films, it was never funny and the jokes fell flat every time. Oh and lest we forget the stupid ending with the reference to anal sex. The joke fell flat and I am not a huge fan of nudity, unless it makes sense. Here, it was sexed up for the hell of it, which to me, is the sign of a bad movie that needs to have sex scenes to make things interesting. The only positive I can think of, other than the well shot action scenes, was the acting. In particular, Samuel L. Jackson was great. However, on the whole, Kingsman: The Secret Service is a horrific film that baffles me how people enjoyed it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Expand

While the movie was entertaining, it deserves a 0, for it's overt anti christian propaganda. If they did to blacks or Jews what they do to christians in this movie, it would be protested and shunned.

There is a key scene where the hero goes to what I can only presume is the writers interpretation of a "typical" christian church service. All in attendance are bigots, homophobes and "anti-government" types. But don't worry because the hero goes nuts and slaughters all of them during the service due to the mind control rays of the evil genius.

I heard viewers in the audience guffawing in approval at the death of those "horrible christian bigots". Mission accomplished hollywood. Defame all that is good and glorify evil.

At the end of the movie we get to enjoy some anal sex too. Nice job..... NOT.

As in Bond films, we are drawn through the showcasing of all the neat gadgets the hero will eventually use to do in the bad guys. The hero's persona was borrowed from the teen angst of the impulsive, smart, rawly talented likes of James T Kirk as late adolescent, the Superman-as-folksy-farm kid. Oh., but we need to have him prove out----we'll have him compete with other teen-young adult peers and 'win' the competition (see X-Men); and we need to throw in a strong heroine who has to depend on the hero for self-confidence and courage (make her good looking but never have her evidence any special talent or skill; but the main characters can't all be guys, right?). One of the worst rip-off films in the last 10 year; entertaining perhaps, if you have little movie-going history under your belt. Even the humor was ripped off ('.....you'll have to excuse me while I go save the world'). Emotional emphasis by all of the charactersswas totally reliant on using the f-word in every major scene (truly, this got to be dreadfully dull after the first hour.) We have to throw in the political issue of global warming as the impetus for the bad guy (who as we know, has limit-less wealth to do any evil he wants). I'd give the movie '1/2 of a 'star' ; and I wish to heck I could get my movie ticket money back on this one.

You can skip this one if you have any historical memory of the Bond Series, Star Trek prequels, X-Men, Matrix. Anyone of you who have seen the above movies, sequels etc., could have written this thing----REALLLY!!! And, any single episode of these is 1000% better than this poorly written rip off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sexual ending was completely out of phase with the whole tone and spirit of the movie up to that point ....I'm not a prude but it was just gratuitously tawdry, brought a so-so action flick down to completely 'un-recommendable' ... I was uncomfortable for half the people and families in the audience.

I think it probably stifled word of mouth recommendations, this is not a movie a guy could bring a decent girl to , to say nothing about bringing a family ..... and really it had nothing what-so-ever to do with anything that had happened prior, it was a graphic anal sex bit that just really felt out of place and I don't see any of popular movie sites mentioning it.... fail all around

The characters are stereotypical and annoying and the gratuitous violence is beyond disgusting. If you enjoy blood and guts every five minutes by all means knock yourself out. The previews of the movie bear no resemblance at all to what the movie is about other than the fact that it tries to be a cheeky homage to James Bond. Two thirds of the way through the movie I walked out. While waiting on my partner to finish watching it I looked up the ending on line. Glad i made the decision to leave. If you are a thirteen year old boy with anger issues will you love this movie. I would give more details but I might have a spoiler and I don't want anyone to miss the message of how infantile, disgusting and just plain bad this movie is. Expand

Der Film ist brutal und das wird noch mit 80/90er Jahre Musik untermalt und mit buntem Feuerwerk gefeiert. Geschmackloser gehts wohl kaum noch. Oftmals vorgespult, weil es unnötig brutal ist.

Worst movie of all time, it was worst than a cartoon! its what you get when you combine a cartoon, GTA(violence) and COD(story)
only thing i liked about this movie is the hart's voice and accent which, you know... no spoilers!
