This movie is brilliant, the action scenes are good and somewhat unique in the way they are done. Some twists are unexpected but overall the story is average. This isn't a masterpiece but it's bloody fun bruv !

Good quality film. Good story and especially excellent action, which was an absolute feast for the eyes in places. Throw in some good music and a light touch of comedy and you have a mix that worked. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a spy/action/comedy film, which features themes including revenge and social class. First off, this is a pretty slick, fast paced film from the very start. Its quite stylish and elements of it were reminiscent of a James Bond (type) film - the fast paced action, decent special effects including numerous explosions and a menacing musical score in the background of many scenes. However, what rung true most in regards to this comparison were the presence/use of imaginative fancy gadgets. It also reminded me somewhat of The Avengers, due to the natty suits worn by Harry.

It is certainly an easy watch, with the plot (which is rather thin on the ground really) not exactly complicated. Its the sort of film which is good to watch if your wanting to get your mind off things, to distract you for a couple of hours or so (its 2 hours and 8 minutes long, for the record) and thus to switch off. I presume it had quite a high budget as the visual effects and the general style and use of light and effects present very much give it that appearance. I felt it was quite gripping at times, with some real near miss type scenarios taking place. It is quite comic in terms of some of the characters, with the main characters Harry Hart and Valentine, being particularly so. Cast wise, Colin Firth was quite amusing as Harry - playing very much the smooth, debonair English gentleman. He plays the role straight, seeming to take everything very seriously and having (bizarrely) high expectations of peoples social behaviour. His character is somewhat the epitome of an English artistocrat, very neatly clothed etc. if that helps paint a picture in your head of him. Meanwhile, Samuel L Jackson plays Valentine, the technology genius, who is a decent match for Harry, given he's also very quick witted, sharp and determined. It looked like he had a lot of fun while shooting the film, as he has that look of casual glee about himself, as has been the case in other similar fast paced films he's appeared in. There are numerous other big names present in the cast, which include Mark Strong as Merlin, Mark Hamill as Professor Arnold and Michael Caine as Arthur, while Taron Egerton plays another key role, that of Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin. Caines character isn't present for particularly long overall, although when he is in a scene, he plays his character much as Firth does his, very straight, with an air of 'so what?' about it. They are both clearly very much examples of previous generations trying to recruit in the younger eneration. I felt there was an air of satire present overall, although I'm not sure if it would be fair to brand the whole film overall as a spoof or a parody as such.

Content wise, unsurprisingly this film isn't for the very faint hearted, containing some moderately graphic violence - some quite bloody, with bloody bodily injuries shown. Some of the violence is somewhat comic, in that it didn't seem to me especially likely to happen and the characters exaggerated movements and swordsmanship style abilities. The film also features strong language, including racist remarks, sex references and an instance of brief partial nudity. There is also a scene featuring threat towards animals, which may upset or frighten some - I thought I better mention that. There are one or two scenes with violence which are somewhat prolonged and could frighten younger viewers but then this film has a 15 rating anyway, which sounds about right to me due primarily to the bloody violence of course.

I also noticed the presence of a certain tabloid newspaper which isn't much appreciated in Liverpool (to put it one way), very much on show in a number of scenes, with various headlines from the paper over the years having been framed and displayed in the office where said scenes are set. I'm not especially fond of the publication and it does seem a bit crass, or perhaps naff is a more approriate term?, to be showing such an obvious product placement. I can only presume 'good' old Mr. Murdoch paid out a fair bit for it...hmmm, well, whether that makes any difference to how you may feel about, or view, the film is something I'll leave for you to decide.

Overall, yes I would recommend this film. Its an easy watch, quite slick and stylish, featuring decent special effects and with a surprisingly good appearance from Colin Firth, its worth a watch. However, it most certainly isn't perfect - some may well be put off by the bloody violence and brief scenes of injuries shown, plus I did feel that some aspects of the plot were a bit thin on the ground, or lacking believability, though I suppose it isn't really the sort of film your meant to take especially seriously. Then there's also the fact that, as mentioned earlier, there is a somewhat naff seeming big product placement for a certain newspaper that seemed a bit unnecessarily tacky but this may or may not bother you.… Expand

E falando na famosa, sem alguém ai esperava coreografias fracas - como na maioria dos filmes do gênero, deve ter ficado muito surpreso a o presenciar um plano-sequencia maestral, que simplesmente é uma aula de cinema, cujo diverso diretores deviam simplesmente sentar aprender.

Os personagens são ótimos. O desenvolvimento é deixado de lado na maior parte do filme, mas a trama tem um ar tão vilanesco, e ao mesmo tempo subvertido - o próprio filme faz piada quanto a isso; que esse ponto não se torna bem relevante. O ritmo, principalmente no ato final, é de tirar o folego. Inclusive, Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson e Mark Strong levam a estatueta nesse filme.

Cenas de ação lendárias, referencias muito bem vindas e um estilo autoral fazem desse filme inesquecível.

Well acted by the cast. The fight scenes were very entertaining and it told a pretty solid story. My only complaint would be that it kind of drags in the final act. All I can say at this point is that Kingsman is a typical Matthew Vaughn movie, I guess. All of his film's are the same: highly enjoyable, pretty corny and sorta forgettable. As a direct reaction to the more ‘serious’ spy films of the current era, the espionage action film pays more than a little homage to the Bond films of the sixties (clearly an influence on Vaughn’s previous X-Men: First Class) but never slips into the parody of Austin Powers or, god forbid, Johnny English.

Just as Kick-Ass did for superheroes, Kingsman wears its cinematic heritage on its sleeve and isn’t afraid to have characters directly confront the ‘outlandish plot’ and their own character ‘archetypes’.

Those expecting a family friendly throwback should be warned though. To quote Mark Strong’s character the violence on display is **** spectacular’.

The frenetic, dynamic action of Kick Ass is ramped up to 11 here as Colin Firth shows us a physical side that we have never seen before. Firth’s Harry Hart combines the charm and wit of Sean Connery’s Bond with the speed and brutality of Jason Bourne to make one pretty unique and memorable character.

The real star of the movie however is Taron Egerton’s Eggsy. The boy from the streets who is inducted into the world of the secret service by Hart could have easily become irritating and unlikeable. In Egerton’s hands however Eggsy makes for a great protagonist as he grows from petty criminal to gentleman spy via a prolonged training period that never feels like it's dragging. What brings charm to the character is his unmasked excitement and enthusiasm for the world of the Kinsmen, like us he knows this stuff is just cool, no matter where your from.

No classic spy film would be complete without a ‘colourful megalomaniac’ trying to take over the world and who better then Mr Samuel L. Jackson to fill that role. As tech billionaire Valentine, Jackson is having enormous fun hamming it up without ever becoming Dr Evil; as he so eloquently puts it — ‘this ain’t that kind of movie’.

From the outset its clear that everyone involved in the project is having the time of their lives and it’s hard for that to not translate offscreen.

Although sometimes things my go a bit too far, and in some cases the films CGI lets it down, Kingsman is a funny, clever and gloriously violent tribute to the spy films of old. I don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but I would definitely like to see a sequel, although hopefully one directed by Matthew Vaughn and not a repeat of the mess that was Kick-Ass 2.… Expand

Kingsman: The Secret Service brings back the irreverence and fun to the genre, cheerfully adding favorite elements of the audience.
The film is based on the 2012 series The Secret Service, a comic created by two superstars of the field, Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar

Whether it's Alex Rider, Cody Banks or even Spy Kids, a lot of movies have tried to adapt the idea of the 007 to younger characters with manifestly stupid results. In the end, the reason it works for Vaughn is that he is making the movie for adults.

Kingsman is halfway to the self-parody and the tribute, violent and modern at the same time and that takes its theme very seriously and its proposal therefore stands out and manages to be a fun and very concise work.

Jokes are perfectly placed for comic relief and never feel out of place or forced, the cinematography is beautiful, and the movie gets away with being a meta spy movie by being just dancing around it. It was a perfect, classic homage to spy movies.
The only downside (the reason this is a 9 instead of 10) is that the first half was a little slow, and although not bad, not nearly as good as the second half.

A complete blast from start to finish. Wow. My only word that comes to my big head. Its a delight to see 2010's Director of Kick Ass, Matthew Vaughn, make a strong comeback with this film. I am so glad I didn't listen to the reviews and watched the movie, looked entertaining so I watched it and loved it, it has a corny feel to it but it's part of the game. Very entertaining and funny. It def didn't disappoint

A must view, simply amazing. Although I enjoyed myself, I do think the film had some issues. The fast edited fight scenes go on way too long, it's really violent, and the film can't really decide if it's an all out comedy or drama. Now, I hate comic books and even more so films inspired by them. Yes, I mean you Marvel, DC etc. One of the few exceptions is this. There are many pluses, not least well know actors playing against type, notably Colin Firth ditching his diffident middle class Englishman persona for a super smooth but hard as nails secret agent. Mark Strong plays a good guy rather than his usual villainous roles. Secondly there is humour throughout, even during the southern redneck church scene. In a film full of surprises this is the shocker so much so I had to replay it just to make sure I hadn't imagined it. Maybe the only downside is that the director chose to depict exploding heads as colourful fireworks rather than opting for a bit of a bloodbath but tis is a moot point.… Expand

It's developed and involved enough to keep you engaged, but it's got just the right amount of fun and self-awareness to make it this easy and fun to watch. A great cast bring everything to life, and great direction guides the story, and the incredibly bad-ass action, to an explosive finale. It's bloody good fun.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: There's nothing to really dislike about this film. It's just not particularly intense or gripping - but that's not really the idea. For something like that, go somewhere else
VERDICT: For what it is it's almost perfect: light, fun entertainment that has you grinning from the off and throughout. Take it for what it is and you'll have a ball.… Expand

This movie is an insanely fun "return-to-bond", a brilliant satire and it acknowledges itself to be both. It sets itself apart visually and stylistically, and indulges in on-point dark humour. There are also some really great performances here. Colin Firth seems to be a better Bond than half the real ones were, and Sam Jack's part seems effortless, as it is entertaining.… Expand

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a ton of fun. It was super violent, super stupid and super funny. Colin Firth was an absolute riot in this film! I hope this is the beginning of a new franchise because I'd certainly like to see more of the Kingsmen!

This movie really surprised me! The previews made it seem like a hipster, frat boy, douche turned spy. Without spoiling anything, it couldn't be farther from the truth. However because of this, I did not see this movie until I saw it on HBOG.This movie really surprised me! The previews made it seem like a hipster, frat boy, douche turned spy. Without spoiling anything, it couldn't be farther from the truth. However because of this, I did not see this movie until I saw it on HBOG. My expectations were low, but I found myself fully engulfed in the movie pretty early on. The plot is fun but the actions/violent scenes were even more fun! Not your average spy movie which is good, the humor is well placed but at times feels a bit too silly.

While the story is very good, the twists and turns are a bit eye rolling. Then the one liners and CGI are why I knock this movie down a bit. Seriously laughable CGI. There were even some plot holes that made me scratch my head on why they even included "character* in the first place.

Overall a definite watch none the less, I was presently pleased with it. Would of definitely Red boxed, or even would of seen in theaters.

I had just watched this movie a few months ago and it's actually very well executed and the cast was amazing, it had done a lot better with the humor and the action. I do indeed recommend this movie, its funny and they all did pretty well.

In a good year, maybe two films rate a 9 or 10 from me and this is one of them. This film was put together so well, cinematography, pacing, music, and of course, action. Someone like Terrence Stamp ("General Zod" in "Superman II") would've been more "deliciously evil". This and a few other quibbles like the small statured new Kingsmen keep it from a "10" rating. But the film was intense throughout, all the way through the faux-end with an awesome callback to the earlier bar scene brawl. Excellent, excellent experience.… Expand

A modern take on old school spy movies that isn't afraid to make fun of itself. Kind of like Austin Powers meets Kill Bill.

The movie has every spy movie cliche in the book, and yet instead of inspiring a "ho-hum" response, it awakens aA modern take on old school spy movies that isn't afraid to make fun of itself. Kind of like Austin Powers meets Kill Bill.

The movie has every spy movie cliche in the book, and yet instead of inspiring a "ho-hum" response, it awakens a spirit of nostalgia akin to why we liked the Bond films of old. Lots of action, and British wit that reminded me allot of the Avengers series (the English Avengers, not the ones from Marvel.)

The dialogue and plot are all very campy and over the top, but the movie embraces it and does its best not to take itself too seriously. But make no mistake, this isn't a comedy, it's action through and through. The comedy is just from clever writing and likely will only be understood by those smart enough to comprehend it.

Overall:
Kingsman is 60s/70s style spy movie set in modern times using modern technology and writing. It isn't meant to be taken seriously and is tribute to old school spy movie. If you want no nonsense serious action, then this isn't for you. If you want some action but also a bit of a giggle, then I highly recommend this movie.… Expand

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" sometimes wanders around too much with a excessive, light-hearted buoyancy that undermines the seriousness of the spy genre, but the choreography and action scenes does give the audience a decent worthwhile watch.

It takes inspiration from a time when spy movies were all about thrills and over-the-top villains with insane plans, rather than the more serious and believable plots and elements you'll find in spy movies today. The film is incredibly aware of this and approaches it with a sense of giddy self-awareness. It even goes as far as to have the characters have conversations about it. Yet, while the film clearly wears it inspiration on it's sleeve and has no problem pointing it out to you, it's also very much it's own thing. It takes the formula of old and reinvigorates it with it's own unique concepts: Hyper violence and a smart*ss sense of humor.

All of the pieces come together masterfully here. Matthew Vaughn shows incredible talent as a director here and the work of fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo is unbelievable. The action is meticulously put together leaving for some incredible and exciting scenes to behold. Action junkies have never seen anything like this before and it is not to be missed.

To top it all of the movie is funny. It's absurdist style makes for a movie that is a joy to watch. Everyone is cast perfectly. Newcomer Taron Egerton is a treat to watch in action. He shows real talent in his first film. You would never think he wasn't a veteran actor. Simply put "Kingsman" is a movie not to be missed. It hits every note near-perfectly. It does new and exciting things for the spy movie genre that other directors should take note of. It's one of the best comic book movies ever made and, as far as I'm concerned, an absolute must-watch.… Expand

Samuel L Jackson (95%of the movies that have come out in 30 years) does a great job as the villain, the lisp he has just makes his character better. The plot isn't the plot of the century or anything but it does make up with a spectacular church scene (if your easily offended then don't watch this) If you haven't seen this by now watch this.… Expand

It's great to see a movie released in 2014 still have the charm of a classic film, Part of witch could be from the movie being based off a comic book as well. The action in this film is mapped out perfectly, With a great mix of plot and action that never feels out of balance. This film will also make you laugh with the main character always quick with a one liner to throw in. Kingsman surprised me I must admit tho, From previews etc I didn't have high hopes for the film but 30 minutes in my mind was changed..I loved this movie. If your a Fan of Old Spy movies or not you should still take some time to watch "Kingsman: The Secret Service" you will not regret it, Unless you don't like extreme violence then maybe skip this one… Expand

This was such a fun movie to watch. I caught it in theatres and bought it on dvd when it came out today. It is a wonderful addition to my collection of Bond, Bourne, Mission Impossible films and it fills a gap those films never show. ThisThis was such a fun movie to watch. This film does have it's campy and over the top moments, but all the actors, even the younger ones, do a phenomenal job in this flick. I've always been a fan of Firth, Strong, Jackson and these 3 are just sooo great on screen (and there's also the added bonus of seeing Mark Hammill and Michael Caine, even if briefly) that their performances and action scenes alone make it worth spending money on. This is a film I'd love to see get a sequel and I hope people will spend money to show support for the people who made this film possible.

Definitely check this out if you want a fun spy movie to watch.… Expand

The Kingsmen: Secret service is a over the top action comedy with a amazing cast. Taron Egerton plays the street thug turned sophisticated gentlemen. To sum it up kick-ass meets Bond.

From the action scene in the trailer, I was pumped to see this movie. I went in hoping for an action packed, kick ass movie with great comedic moments. I was not remotely disappointed.

The characters are generic, but that makes them easy to understand with so little backstory to go on. The action is crazy, the comedy comes naturally, and their are some genuinly innovative ideas here. It's such a great time that it made me feel the rare urge to hope for a sequel. I’ll be honest. I was expecting of a really grounded spy movie which unfortunately, it isn’t. It was probably because I was expecting a compelling plot with a great back story or something. However, just because it’s not a grounded spy movieI’ll be honest. I was expecting of a really grounded spy movie which unfortunately, it isn’t. It was probably because I was expecting a compelling plot with a great back story or something. However, just because it’s not a grounded spy movie doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I loved it actually!

I liked how this movie is a homage to the earlier spy movies but it still stands as its own movie. The movie had a meta moment when it discusses how two of the characters in the movie (in which I won’t spoil) missed how fun spy movies used to be and now current spy movies are too serious. With the homage as well as the meta moment, this movie is going to delight spy movie fans more.

While this movie doesn’t have a compelling plot, the movie does a good job developing the main character Eggsy played by Taron Egerton. The father-son dynamic between Eggsy and Harry (played by Colin Firth) is excellent.

The humor is quite dark, witty and funny. Valentine (played by Samuel L. Jackson) delivered the funniest lines in the movie with Harry being the close second.

The action scenes were excellently shot and choreographed and this is from someone who doesn’t generally care about action scenes. It’s one of the best strengths of the movie that kept my eyes on the screen.

Kingsman: The Secret Service will satisfy the spy genre fans more but this movie is still fun for the general audience like me who wants a good yet fun movie.… Expand

Great movie, great acting, great humor, great violence! I really liked how this movie was something else, something out of the ordinary, it has it's cliches, but it's funny and entertaining! Go and watch it, you'll love it!

This is not bad,it's good! The really enjoy the film with it's cool action and a funny spy movie.The film has some issues and plot holes but still love the film.It is enjoyable action spy movie with Violence on top of it.

Some jerkoff "professional" reviewers have managed to bring down the critic score on this, but trust me, I don't even like comic book movies and I loved this. It's what the Triple A 100 billion dollar comic movies should strive to be.

This movie is one of the best action/spy movies since Skyfall (but a lot more fun). The comedy behind the story is hilarious, and the action is over the top and wonderful. I loved the storyline, and it is a very visually appealing picture. IThis movie is one of the best action/spy movies since Skyfall (but a lot more fun). Good, good, good. As a straight up action film, Kingsman is awesome. Add some humor, an interesting plot, and good acting, and these round off an excellent film. an eccentric action-packed movie, with a pinch comedy, and a truly epic entertainment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You will find extreme over-the-top violence, hilarious moments, and upsetting deaths in Kingsman: The Secret Service. This is one of the best spy movies ever made and even the villain is funny. Harry's death is sad. Overall, don't take kids under 13 to see this as the violence is pretty brutal(especially the church scene). The McDonalds scene is also pretty funny.… Expand

Loved Colin Firth in this as well as Michael Caine too but I am so over Samuel L Jackson being all over the place in recent movies.
