This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In a world where a theme park filled with real-life dinosaurs is the ultimate tourist attraction, what could possibly go wrong? That's the question posed by Steven Spielberg's 1993 cinematic masterpiece, "Jurassic Park." And the answer? Well, let's just say things get a tiny bit chaotic.

From the moment John Hammond (played with sprightly optimism by Richard Attenborough) utters the words, "Welcome to Jurassic Park," we're transported to an island where the wonders of science, hubris, and nature collide in a symphony of awe and, occasionally, sheer terror.

The film delivers a visually sumptuous feast of prehistoric marvels. Remember that first glimpse of the Brachiosaurus munching away on treetops? Or the heart-thumping dread of the T-Rex's approach, signaled by those iconic ripples in a cup of water? Spielberg masterfully marries practical effects with early CGI, creating dinosaurs that feel so real you'd think you could reach out and pat one (though, for safety's sake, please refrain).

Our cast of characters, from the skeptical Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) to the tenacious Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), are equally compelling. Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm, with his dark charm and zany one-liners, is a scene-stealer, making chaos theory sound way sexier than it has any right to be. And let's not forget the kids, Lex and Tim, who remind us that while adults are busy discussing ethics and playing God, someone has to figure out how to reboot a computer system and save the day.

On the humor front, "Jurassic Park" serves up a buffet of comedic moments to balance out the nail-biting tension. From the sarcastic quips of Malcolm ("Life, uh, finds a way") to the sheer irony of a T-Rex saving the day in a grandiose finale (no spoilers, but let's just say it's a cinematic "clap back" for the ages), there's no shortage of chuckles amidst the chaos.

In conclusion, "Jurassic Park" isn't just a movie about dinosaurs. It's a tale of wonder, ambition, and the unpredictable consequences of meddling with Mother Nature. And while it might make you rethink that dream of opening a dino-themed amusement park, it will undoubtedly reaffirm your love for cinema's ability to transport, amaze, and delight.

So, if you're in the mood for a film that combines cutting-edge science, age-old ethical dilemmas, and an occasional bout of dino-induced indigestion (RIP, goat), look no further. Spielberg's dino classic remains an enduring testament to the magic of movies and the perils of underestimating Velociraptors.

Remember, folks: Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. But when it comes to watching "Jurassic Park"? We definitely should.

One of the best movies ever created. Just watched it in theaters for the first time in 3D for the 30th anniversary release! Prefer the movie without 3D but was surprised how good it looked for never being created with 3D in mind.

This is a vivid example of the fact that Sci-Fi can become a mass genre. Given that the film was released in 1993, CGI is just great. Jurassic Park is one of my favorite films from Spielberg and although the franchise with each new film is worse, the first part remains an unattainable standard. Excellent cast, including secondary characters. A good plot for an adventure movie, great action scenes. And most importantly, it is a family film for a wide range of viewers. A real masterpiece of the adventure genre. Expand

The sense of wonder it's first part gives off is truly incredible. The Brachiosaurus scene gives me chills, even in the LEGO version. The atmosphere then slowly, very slowly, recedes into apprehension and anxiety, until suddenly - terror. The characters are fairly one-sided, but this somehow works to make the movie more compelling, with the many different perspectives the characters have on the park and the situation. The film is often dark and terrifying. But it never truly loses that sense of awe and wonder, that sense of hope. The acting is good. The score is fantastic. The cinematography and shooting are insane. Simultaneously a phenomenally terrifying monster thriller with pioneering special effects and a surprisingly heartfelt, compelling film about the beauty of life and the nature of humanity, this is a must-watch. An absolute masterpiece, and one of my favorite films of all time. Expand

90/100

A classic. Rewatching the saga before the penultimate film on the 10th June. Some of the dinosaurs have aged in their CGI but it’s still stunning. Especially the Tyrannosaurs and the Velociraptor(s) The start of the film builds up very well to the drama and action sequences. I still feel bad for the lawyer and Muldoon, even Arnold’s death is unwarranted. I feel like the only two who deserved to perish to their creations were Hammond and Nedry, the latter did. This film is amazing though. Like I can’t really discredit it. Not 100/100 because there’s a few notable plot wholes and scenarios that make little sense. Firstly, Harding and Grant continuously point out the dangers of the Raptors, and you’re telling me they didn’t have a backup generator installed for their enclosure specifically. Secondly, what happened to all the builders and external staff when the dinosaurs escaped, how did they get off the island, and where did they go? This is never really mentioned. Sure they could’ve left when Nedry did but ALL of them, Nah.

Jurassic Park is mindless eye candy. What little plot there is in the novel was stripped away in the film to create a pointless story of dinosaurs eating people. I suspect that, as digital special effect improve, the film will fall into oblivion.

While a tad too long and has one or two loose ends in the plot, Jurassic Park nevertheless has thrilling action and has sheer evidence of the director's vision and effortless verve at work. John Williams's score is absolutely terrific, definitely one of the more memorable scores in a Steven Spielberg movie, the score for Jaws like Psycho is one of the main reason why I am so scared to go into the sea now. The acting is really not bad at all, Sam Neill and Laura Dern have given better performances but they were good. Jeff Goldblum is terrific, and as Dennis Nedry Wayne Knight is suitably more subdued. Richard Attenborough, a talented actor and a even more talented director also is good as John Hammond, while child star Joseph Mazello, who surprised me in Shadowlands is appealing as Tim. However, the real stars are the dinosaurs, especially the T-Rex, the mix of computer animation and models is inspiring. The cinematography is astounding, the script is good and the direction is lively. I haven't read Michael Crichton's book, but regardless this is a hugely enjoyable film. 9/10 Bethany Cox Expand

It was only after I gained interest in watching movies did IAs a kid I often used to hear people talk about Jurassic Park, but since I didn't know English and I don't like watching old movies, I didn't really feel like checking this out. It was only after I gained interest in watching movies did I decide to give this a look. I just got my Prime subscription and had seen everything, so I decided to give this a try. And boy was I surprised! I didn't even know what I was going to expect and being a huge sucker for wildlife and natural environment, this movie made me delve into a fantasy world. Undoubtedly this is an iconic movie right off the bat.
Jurassic Park has some of the most iconic characters from the 90s science fiction. The reason being that in spite of being a movie about dinosaurs, it was able to put the human characters inside with such effortlessness. I really liked John Hammond. What he did in the movie is something I'd really want to see happen in real life. Ian Malcolm also made the side characters look very interesting, as though he alone carried the burden of the comic relief scenes. And when it comes to the CGI, I don't think we even need enough words. This was fire right from the start. Seeing dinosaurs just do something on the screen and behave like actual wild animals was so awesome.
The story was also pretty good. The idea that a scientist has created a wildlife sanctuary for dinosaurs where we travel using an self driven car is a fantasy for many Millennials and Gen-Z alike. If something like that happens in real life we will definitely want to give it a look. And seeing what all misadventures they had to go through, we have the uneasy feeling watching it. The T-Rex scenes still hold very well, especially the iconic part where the children are being driven away in the car.
I really wanted Jurassic Park to be a standalone movie, which could be remastered into 4K as time and technology gets better. Even today it doesn't look outdated, other than the fact that some dinosaurs have been discovered to look different like the velociraptor, and the camera quality is very 90s-ish. But watching it on a big TV really gives the feel of seeing it in a theatre due to the old resolution. A definite recommendation from me.

Characters can often be on and off we developing characters just outright stopping in its tracks a third of the movie in. Well what else is there to say about Jurassic park? Jurassic Park is Steven Spielberg's finest work. This movie is ahead of it's time. The story and special effects were too grand for 1993.

The Movie to define a Generation.

If you were born in the 90s or before, you had a connection with people...you absolutely loved this movie, and it made a mark on you. I think most people remember when they saw this movie first, because it was that awe inspiring of an experience. I remember that it was the first pg-13 movie I was allowed to watch, and what a way to start my grown up movie experience!!! Everything in this movie screams adventure, from the opening scene where the jungle leaves rustle, the shot of mysterious sparkling amber, to the landing of the helicopter on a remote rainforest island, the movie sets the tone for the greatest adventure movie ever made. As you hear John Williams glorious theme start to swell, and you see Alan remove his glasses and start to tremble, you know you're about to witness one of the most magical moments ever put on cinema. I can't go into detail on all the incredible scenes, from the T-Rex reveal, to the kitchen scene, but each one of them revolutionized what we thought movie magic could take us. Thank you Spielberg for making this enchanting piece of art for us, an entire generation is indebted to you.

I remember being dropped off at the theater in the summer of 1993 with my little brother, not knowing what to expect. And basically nearly crapping my pants. I mean at 13 it scared the utter crap out of me. It was the first movie with digital surround sound and it was amazing. Steven Spielberg's popcorn masterpiece has a number of sequels at this point but nothing even comes close to the original. It's scary, funny, smart and action packed. It's nearly flawless in every way from the perfect performances pretty much all around except for some questionable moments from Dern. The movie's spectacular effects also hold up surprisingly well. It's still the best blending of practical and CGI to date. The characters are developed enough to care about and the movies pacing is perfect from the awe inspiring thrills of the first third to the primal terror in its final half. Truly one of the best and scariest movies ever made.

I very much enjoyed the experience, but was also annoyed at how different the book was from the movie. Because of that, I decided to revisit this legenadry franchise that was a very prominent part of my childhood. Like I said, the book is very different from the movie, not only that, but also very violent. In the book, there was a handful of deaths before we are ever introduced to the park itself. With that being said, the movie manages to stand up on it's own merits and create a magical experience that most people can enjoy. After almost thirty years the dinosuars still look pretty good and I really appreciate the practical effects and puppetry within the film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, this movie made dinosaurs really popular with children and then frightening. This is the first installment of the Jurassic Park franchise (including Jurassic World). And I was surprised that this movie is based on Michael Crichton’s novel with the same name, though I never read it. Crichton also wrotre the screenplay with David Koepp. It’s about a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok. I liked the performances, especially the children. They had proved that not all children actors were terrible in acting. There’s Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Ellie, Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm. I actually though Ian was dead when he collapsed on the ground when the T-Rex was about to eat the man in the toilet. Then he got back alive, injured and I was astonished. He also appeared in the Lost World – Jurassic Park 2. Another surprising thing was there was Samuel L. Jackson in the movie being Arnold before he got famous in Pulp Fiction (1994). When I didn’t know that fact, I saw this Arnold man looked like Samuel L. Jackson and when I saw there’s him in the cast, I was like “WTF!!!”. Crazy! The CGI was the best things in here. They made the dinosaurs looked real and they did, nothing was a bad sign of CGI, except for the orange running dinosaurs, they’re a bit bad. The fight scenes between dinosaurs were cool and when the goat’s leg fell on the car, it was just INSANE!!! Although it was considered to be not scary, I think the movie had made its entrance to be R-Rated but then I thought again, because of the dinosaurs walking in beautiful nature more than that, I think PG-13 is okay! The movie was scored beautifully and satisfyingly by the amazing John Williams. The score made us feel that we’re in a paradise if we’re watching this movie in a 3-D version. I just loved the music so much. This was definitely one of Steven Spielberg’s masterpieces. He had made an awesome R-Rated movie that year and it was Schindler’s List, I hope Jurassic Park is gonna be as good as that, even though it’s not.

Jurassic Park is aAnd now we've come to the big one, Jurassic Park, the highest grossing film of all time. When people got to see this years back they are in awe just like me and they were on the edge of the seat when the thrill starts. Jurassic Park is a theme park of where dinosaurs is shown in the park of where dinosaurs lived a million years ago and to entertain people and kids with awe and they got rides in the park like most theme parks got. The film takes place at Isla Nublar. Three doctors, Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm and others are with John Hammond travelling to a wildlife park called Jurassic Park where Hammond created cloned dinosaurs on Costa Rican island. While they arrive, they saw a brachiosaurus and Grant couldn't believe his eyes when Hammond said "We have a T-Rex." The group watched a Saturday Morning Cartoon where DNA is telling you all about dinosaurs by extracting from mosquitoes. Sheesh! Looks like somebody been watching too many Looney Tunes! They went into the tour vehicles along with Hammond's grandchildren, Lex and Tim and then comes across a sick triceratops. And then the power goes off so is the tour vehicles and a nerdy lazy computer programmer, Dennis Nedry, has been bribed by Dodgson, is stealing dino DNA and the Tyrannosaurus rex appears by breaking through the electric fences. Now let me get to something which REALLY mine and everybody's minds. First I'll start off by saying that I f**king love the special effects. The special effects are the highlight of the film and it mixes a lot of it with robotic puppets and computer animation known as CGI. The effects on the dinosaurs are fantastic and impeccable. I really love the T-Rex scene where it attacks Lex and Tim in the tour vehicle and injures one of the group including Ian Malcolm and killing Donald Gennaro. The Tyrannosaurus rex is something that people are in awe with including the effects on the dinosaurs and that goes with the triceratops. The triceratops is made out of robotic animatronics like all the other dinosaurs. It looks like you're looking at a real dinosaur. Stan Winston and his team did a fantastic job on the visual effects. The CGI is been used previously in The Abyss and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Impressive, ain't it? The characters are really likeable and lovable and memorable. The actors did a really fantastic job on their portrayal on the characters. Sam Neill is Dr. Alan Grant is really good. He knows how dinosaurs extinct and what breed it is and does not like children but warms up to Lex and Tim, he's beginning to like children even more. He's such a great character. Laura Dern plays Dr. Ellie Sattler and that's all I can say about her. Jeff Goldblum plays Dr. Ian Malcolm who I think this character is a fan favourite by many people. He's a mathematician who specialise in chaos theory. Well, of course everybody knows the legendary Richard Attenborough as John Hammond. He passed away in a legendary age of 90. He's a billionaire philanthropist who Jurassic Park and the bioengineering company, InGen. He invites Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler to look at the cloning dinosaurs. He's a strong character. Two grandchildren, Lex and Tim who are John Hammond's grandchildren. They not annoying as many people said and that's how it works. Everybody remembers Samuel L. Jackson. I gotta say he says one line from which he said in Kong: Skull Island. "Hold on to your butts." The music I gotta say is absolutely beautiful. And you all know it's he legendary John Williams. He creates memorable music in many films he done in. The theme of Jurassic Park BLEW people away and it's becoming of the John Williams best piece of music in the generation of the life time and my favourite of all time along with Jaws. There's one scene that I do love is where you see the brachiosaurus for the first time and when you see it, it's CGI and it's breath-taking and it's so motherf***ing satisfying to look at. When John Hammond says a memorable line "Welcome to Jurassic Park." The music kicks in and you'll be in awe once you've seen the dinosaurs move in herds. Listen. This will never get out of your head every year every time you think about it. What can I say about Jurassic Park? Well, I gotta say, I love everything about it. I love the characters the awesome story, fantastic special/visual effects, the directing style from one of my favourite directors of all time Steven Spielberg and the unforgettable music score by John Williams. You can't really go wrong, it is such an masterpiece! I can watch it over and over again without a fail and cannot deny it. It left me with awe and every time the Tyrannosaurus rex comes in and kills the raptors, it roars when the sign comes down saying "When dinosaurs ruled the earth.", it blew people away when they got out of the cinema years ago. Jurassic Park is a biggest achievement for everyone who are in awe while they're in the roller coaster ride at the theme park. Good luck and welcome to Jurassic Park. Expand

Jurassic Park really jarred audiences with the realism of the dinosaurs and how well the actors interacted with digital creatures, and how well written the movie was overall which lead it to be a long-lasting franchise.
