I'm real different from Juno but my cousin is like her carbon copy. I'm surprised they got her down in a movie so perfectly. I love Juno for that and how unique It is. I'm proud.

You mean the star who agve an almost academy award-winning level performance years earlier in Hard Candy? An already cult, popular and highly-praised film....?

Wow Peter.... tell me this, are you not ashamed at the standard of your reviews?

I would be if I was saying the BS you did.

Don't get me started on the critic who gave No Country FOM a 50 and made it receive a lesser overall score than There Will Be Blood, which is inferior in almost every regard to NCFOM. Fact.

I went to see "Juno" twice in theaters. The first time, I thought it was cute, if a little overly cutsie in its supposedly ambitious dialogue attempts (sorry, the line "I need to procure a hasty abortion" is just BAD). The second time, I I went to see "Juno" twice in theaters. The first time, I thought it was cute, if a little overly cutsie in its supposedly ambitious dialogue attempts (sorry, the line "I need to procure a hasty abortion" is just BAD). The second time, I realized that the script wasn't just annoying, it was dreadful. After it came out on DVD, I watched it twice more, attempting to see what Roger Ebert saw. But alas, I don't, and I have gone from disliking it to outright hating it. The characters are awful. Someone as smart as Juno is supposed to be should be a lot more believable in her fear of relationships; instead, she comes off as a hybrid of the worst parts of both Lorelai and Rory Gilmore from "Gilmore Girls." Diablo Cody's script is even more reprehensible, as many of the superb actors in the cast (notably the always-at-least-good Allison Janney) are wasted on a script that, frankly, seems only mildly interested in its own subject matter and more obsessed with being pop-savvy. And then we come to Ellen Page. I have nothing against Ellen Page; I'm simply not convinced she's a good actress. This has nothing at all to do with her acting ability, however. I simply couldn't get over how cute she was in this film. In the beginning, standing with a bottle of Sunny Delight, she's cute. When she's sitting in the abortion clinic, she's cute. When she's waddling around the halls of her high school, she's cute. And when she's bonding with a completely misused Jason Bateman, she's cute. Yet this cuteness underscores the main problem with the movie: It's really cute, but there's nothing behind it. Expand

The premise is untapped and fresh, the cast are all in their prime, and it's produced by fox searchlight. It had the makings of a fantastic flick, but failed miserably in the script writing. I actually think Diablo Cody masturbated to the script while writing it, in the way he blatantly force-feeds cool. The unlikeable character Juno alone ruined the movie for me, every scene where she was meant to "stick it to the man", she comes off looking like a snooty, self-serving, preggie bitch. Expand

I am astonished that people found this film to be "witty" - for 90 minutes the viewer is subjected to unbearable and seemingly endless smart-arse comments in a routine trudge through the familiar old American high school stereotypes. The supporting cast was perfect: J.K. Simmons and Alison Janney were excellent as Juno's parents, Michael Cera was sweet as the confused boyfriend, and you had to feel sympathetic for Jennifer Garner as the wishful adoptive mother. People, please, don't think too hard during the movie. This is a fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. The script, as others have already praised, is witty and clever, thanks to ex-stripper Diablo Cody. Give her credit: it is her first screenplay, for which she won an Oscar for. Anyways, this movie resembles another wonderful indie flick: Little Miss Sunshine. If you liked that indie flick, I can't imagine you won't like this. Expand

The dialogue wasn't really that witty, and the fact that middle schoolers understood it all means it's really not that smart as some ignorant defenders are trying to claim. But to another reviewer: of course plenty of teenagers are actually this quickly-witted. Do you only hang out with stupid high schoolers? But if you want a classic comedy that still holds up today which REALLY requires you to be alert because of the rapid-fire humor, please turn your attention to Aiplane!, the greatest classic spoof of our time (which also opened the gates for all spoofs following it.) The people who don't generally see non-mainstream films are the ones who thought Juno was cute, clever, quirky, etc. It was well made, but everything just TRIED too hard. From the soundtrack of the generic "quirky" indie music, to the oh-I'm-so-witty-and-hip dialogue, to the hamburger phone. It just tries too hard! Everything but the performances and direction felt forced. All the scenes, the retorts, the quirky situations-- they were all too calculated, attempting too much to be indie-stylized. The real reason this was nominated for its awards was because it was the only light movie out that people liked enough, and everything else out was much more serious. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that the Academy needs a non-R rated movie in its Best Picture category, this would not have been nominated. For the truly best indie film of the year, Once is undeniable, though Lars and the Real Girl and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead are excellent choices also. Expand

Today there are so many excellent movies, well made, well directed, well edited, well acted. Just every now and then something is made that is a little bit 'fresh' and from a different viewpoint, and I would guess that is why Juno has attracted the attention it has received. For me the best thing about this movie is the unusual character of Juno, who is the sum of the witty writer and the great actor who created her. She is both a typical and atypical teenager. I wonder if the writing is influenced by woody allen or oscar wilde? Though it may seem strange to compare, both of these writers are witty and intelligent, but it sometimes seems strange to hear the exact same kind of language coming from every characters mouth. Yet for me, the uniqueness is what makes the movie, even though its still realistic enough to be believable. One of the best 'coming of age' movies of the noughties. The soundtrack is superb and really 'fits' the movie. Cant wait to buy it! Expand
