Not as good as the others. Still a pretty action packed movie. Jason Bourne is doing what Jason Bourne does in his movies. He's invisible and kicks whoever dares to mess with him butte.

This is the 5th in the series of Jason Bourne films, sometimes referred to as Americas James Bond equivalent (although you may be mistaken from presuming its the first due to the titular name).

Within the first few scenes, it reminded me quite a lot of the US drama show 24, being fast paced, featuring seemingly complicated IT systems being hacked in to, with various different cities in different parts of the world being focussed on and so on. There is some quite jerky camerawork featured from relatively early on, as if whoever was filming the scenes were a bit nervous or trepidatious - I found it a bit disorientating at times. Plot wise, its quite fast paced and it felt rather volatile, in terms of what was happening on the ground (as it were) and what might be to come, due to those 'behind the scenes' second guessing what may take place.

If you haven't seen the previous Jason Bourne films then I'd compare it to a mix of the Mission:Impossible films and James Bond films. Also, og course you may be a bit confused about the character and obviously the back story. I've seen the first 3 but im not sure if I saw the previous film to this one, yet I still enjoyed it, appreciating the visual effects and the general tense and fast paced atmosphere and tone this film carries. I thought the plot was quite intriguing, with us (the viewer) finding out a little more about the main character, while wanting things to work out well for him. I imagine that these days there will be many people who potentially wonder what large organisations may have on file about some people (the age of paranoia? or is it? food for thought), so (at a bit of a stretch, I should say) perhaps it is somewhat relevant.

As the plot develops, it became more gripping and there were some plot twists I didn't see coming. The music present in the film is quite sombre in tone, sombre and slightly spooky, edgy sounding, so typical fare for a US spy film I'd say. There is certainly an element (if not a general feeling) of blink and you'll miss it, during the faster paced action scenes.

Overall, I felt it was a film of second guessing and it was quite an engrossing and engaging one at that, for the majority of it. The camerawork won't suit all but for what it is, its most certainly not bad. It isn't 100% original and it did feel a little long, probably about half an hour longer than it maybe needed to be (running time wise) but for the most part I felt it to be quite watchable and engrossing. I felt the same for the Oceans films, so maybe that might help you judge if you'd find it too long or not(?) I'll leave that for you to decide.

Yes I'd recommend this film, as a good American spy action thriller film. It features some unoriginal elements to the plot but it also has one or two decent plot twists and a good cast and I found myself feeling quite engrossed and entertained by it generally speaking, so I'd recommend it on that basis, although it is somewhat long winded.

For this, they called back Paul Greengrass who, this time, ensures the direction and script. The film is not brilliant, however it manages to fulfill the expectations of the audience, although Greengrass has lost its freshness and intensity, offering us a listless and tiring effort.

The script begins with Nicky Parsons' attempt to publicly expose various CIA operations. She contacts Jason Bourne, who tries to dissuade her from doing so. The CIA, however, was following in her wake, and it didn't take much for them to suspect Bourne's intentions and attitudes, and go back to hunting him, as they had done before. From there, what the film gives us is more than what we've seen in other films in the franchise. The script, however, seemed simpler and more direct in the way it presents itself, without the twists and subtleties that previous films sometimes had. Another thing that needs to be said: in this film, the tension and suspense are not as palpable as in previous films. That, in fact, is something I regret, it would have made the film work better.

To the delight of many, and after his disappearance in the previous film, Matt Damon is back to the main role, one of the most important roles in his acting career. He is impeccable and perfectly at ease with the work and material. However, I've felt several times that the rest of the cast doesn't have the material or time to partner with him. Vincent Cassell, for example, is an excellent actor and is very good at this kind of characters, but his character is basic, merely a sketch, and the actor doesn't do much because he doesn't have much to do here. Tommy Lee Jones also has reasons not to miss this movie. Equally talented and competent for action characters (who doesn't remember his performance in "The Fugitive" a few decades ago?), he simply hasn't received decent material and his character is underdeveloped. Alicia Vikander appears just to give a feminine touch to a movie full of testosterone.

On a technical level, this film manages to maintain the quality standards of previous films in this franchise. It features beautiful cinematography and satisfying camera work, despite a little overuse of the handheld, with those blurry images. It knew how to make the best use of the filming locations, carefully chosen, and the effects of light and shadow. The editing work leaves something to be desired, giving the film an uneven pace, with scenes that take too long for no apparent reason. As in other films in the franchise, the strong technical bet is the special, visual and sound effects used in the action scenes. Everything is done with great rigor and gives the film a pleasant feeling of realism.

There's nothing redeeming about this movie, Damon is not an action star.
Vikander is completely miscast and implausible in her role and shoehorning another antagonist into the franchise, as great as Tommy Lee Jones is, wasn't the best idea.
It would've been interesting if they could have cast someone else in the lead.

Jason Bourne is the fourth outing of Robert Ludlum's amnesiac ex-assassin and it's by far the weakest in the (now) ongoing franchise.
Matt Damon reprises his role, but is in effect playing a completely different character. Everything we've come to discover about him in the original 'trilogy' is jettisoned in favour of some completely unattached tale involving a whole new group of CIA spooks out to stop him.
It's very 'by the book' writing, and suffers immensely by not having any defined references back to the man we know.
OK the character of Nicky Parsons returns, but her role is solely to offer up this new character angle (and subsequent memories that weren't mentioned or referenced previously) regarding Bourne's father and his involvement in the original Treadstone Program that created the assassin Bourne would become.
There's oblique references to Bourne's (aka David Webb's) rationale for joining up due to his father's death and him wanting to be a patriot... But it's merely offered up as filler inbetween the two narratives that flow as the film bumbles along.
It wouldn't be so bad if the acting/direction were good, but they're not. We're in shaky-cam nirvana, not a single shot in the movie seems to be captured using a fixed camera. As for the acting, Damon's on auto-pilot, as are Tommy Lee Jones and recent Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (a bad piece of casting, as she's FAR too attractive to be an ambitious, young CIA uber-tech nerd!!), it seems to be nothing more than a guaranteed paycheque and I suspect in Damon's case... As he's also a producer... He's picking up a substantial financial reward for that too!!
Throw in some terrible CGI effects on the long distance shots (nothing in the background looks real in those cityscapes) and a woeful score.... And you're left with merely another generic action/spy/cyber thriller.
One to watch if it pops up on Netflix and you've run out of episodes of Westworld.

As she begins tracking the duo, Bourne finds himself back in action battling a sinister network that utilizes terror and technology to maintain unchecked power. The action isn't as goodJason Bourne sees Matt Damon returning to franchise in just over 9 years and this film wasn't worth the wait because while it's not terrible this film has loads of issues which people should know before watching it. The action isn't as good as any of previous Matt Damon Bourne films, and the action in this film is almost to cartoonish to fit in the Bourne trilogy and what we have seen prior this film. There is a plot line about an app which only sets up the finale, but is more of a distraction to the film than anything else. This film has nothing which makes it great compared to other the other films in series and this film is a big disappointment. There are some things I like about this film though, I think the film has some excellent pacing and some great tension, and this respect it feels like a Bourne film. The other thing I like is that the actors do very well with the poor writing which they are given. If any more Bourne films are made by Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon return to this series, I would also like writer Tony Gilroy to return because I think the Bourne films should have a better writer to make a better film. Carefully spelling most things out for the viewer and dumbing down everything else. The hacker stuff reminds me of the 1995 Angelina Jolie classic (in a ridiculous bad way) "Hacker". The depictions of technology being often incorrect and outright laughable.

The movie is entertaining in parts, but ceaselessly falls on its face as it tries to be too intense. Too dramatic. And as for the non-stop always moving camera, its past the point of getting old, its annoying and disruptive. Find a freakin tripod. Put the camera on it. And just step away! Just for a few seconds, please!!

And then there's the casting of the young smart hacker CIA agent. This is a move straight out of a Michael Bay playbook. Alicia Vikander is Greengrass's solution to the hot model scientist from a Bay Transformer Flick. Its a ridiculous casting choice and it just undermines the plot of the whole movie. In a Bay film, it almost makes sense because the movie is inherently ridiculous. In a movie that takes itself as serious as this one though... its just bad.

If you're a fan of the Bourne movies, go ahead and watch this. Just don't expect much.

Though I still believe the Bourne Ultimatum is the best in the series, the movie still delivers with some action-packed sequences and thought- provoking characters. Directed by Paul Greengrass, who was also at the helm with Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum, the movie is able to bring back some of things that made the original Bourne trilogy so good, in particular the incredibly awesome action pieces that are sprayed all throughout the film. It also showcases Paul's signature use of a shaky-camera, and though unconventional, proves to be useful in many situations.

Almost a decade after the end of the Bourne Ultimatum, Bourne (Matt Damon) is still hiding, isolated from the world, where he only joins up in the occasional street-fight. But, his involvement begins when former contact of Bourne, Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles), hacks into the CIA server in attempt to expose information. Files concerning the identity of Jason Bourne and how they attempt to take him down brings him out of hiding.

The film boasts a stellar cast, which includes Matt Damon, Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel, all who of whom suited their characters well within the story. The story itself wasn't as intriguing as many of other Bourne films, as there were some minor plot-holes, but it didn't concern me that much. Its ability blends a decent plot with amazing action provides a fulfilling experience for the viewer, in particular, those who are fans of the series.

Not sure. After the failed attempt at a spin-off with Bourne Legacy, which had Jeremy Renner in the lead role, this instalment with Matt Damon back as the lead, suggests an effort at course correction for the franchise. Granted Damon reunites with Paul Greengrass who helmed the immensely successful sequels to Bourne Identity (2002) which was a grittier re-imaging of the softer James Bond franchise. Also the Bourne movie trademarks are there; quick-paced walks through streets as Bourne is followed by people who are out to get him, spectacular car chases, hand-to-hand combat, high-tech espionage. Tommy Lee Jones (as CIA Director) and Alicia Vikander (as CIA Head of Cybernetics) give good performances. The problem with Jason Bourne is that the plot line was not engaging enough, not helped by the long interval between the last entry in the franchise, Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and the current one (2016). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Jason Bourne Story so far. Jason became a superspy after the death of his father but it turns out his father wasn’t killed by a runaway sled named Rosebud but by his Uncle played by Tommy Lee Jones. Who then marries his mother played by Julia Stiles which means that his mother is now both his sister and his aunt. So Jason starts therapy but it goes sideways when it turns out that the therapist is a double agent and a ghost. I am pretty sure that synopsis is fairly accurate. The movie starts with a decent action scene in what is both supposed to be and clearly is not Athens and ends with a great action scene in what is supposed to be and clearly is Las Vegas. In between these two tentpoles I have a couple of issues besides the incomprehensible plot (see above). First of all, if you are going to put up a title card for Berlin, London, Athens or Las Vegas you really don’t need to give us the country. Second, while the dynamic shaky cam is useful during dynamic chase scenes, though honestly I am not a fan, it needs to be turned off when characters are looking at their phone or just having coffee. Third yelling enhances computer monitor will not turn a dozen blurry pixels into Julia Stiles. And last what is it with modern movies showing our intelligence agencies murdering all their henchmen like some particularly demented James Bond villain. I noticed this silliness in Suicide Squad of all things but it is even sillier here. You just can’t go killing your own agent's willy nilly. Workplaces simply don’t work like that. Everyone is going to call in sick if the boss is whacking their cube mates out of plot convenience.

The action bits make this certainly watchable and the scenery is nice (except for that graffiti hellhole Berlin. Seriously Germans clean that up will you. Nobody is impressed). The acting is decent and entertaining. Only real shame is the plot is such an incomprehensible silly mess.

New officials, new operations at agency, but the same old Bourne!

I thought the original films are meant to be a trilogy, but when filmmakers saw money, they went ahead with the fourth in a new direction. So now with this, it has returned to the original storyline. The Jason Bourne, whose quest to find the answers was over. Yet, a new chapter begins with this like another trilogy is on making like the 'Star Wars' with a new storyline and adventures.

Still the theme remains the same, like running and chasing. So the story was just a one or two liner. But if you like the action sequences, this has got plenty of them to entertain you. That's should be a main reason, if you want to see it, other than that the film was average kind. Matt Damon's return for the title role was the best thing happened in here with the director of 'Supremecy' and 'Ultimatum'.

I think Alicia Vikander's role is yet to exploit and that would be in the next two films. Looks like an interesting combo between her and Matt, so waiting for the official news. The same formula for this is what disappointing, though not a bad flick. After all, that's how we know Bourne series. So go for it if you are up to date with this franchise, because there's going to be at least another two films if my guess is right.

Not that Damon and Greengrass’s return isn’t welcome – it most certainly is – but after the thrilling, pulsating and well-written original trilogy (The BourneBourne is back after a nine-year break, but is that necessarily a good thing? Not that Damon and Greengrass’s return isn’t welcome – it most certainly is – but after the thrilling, pulsating and well-written original trilogy (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum), this instalment feels like a money-grab, as it is not only unnecessary, but Bourne’s situation is actually made worse and he ends up in a worse position at the end than he was at the beginning (Nicky Parsons is dead and the CIA are after him once again).

The film is also lacking in those small, clever moments in the original trilogy where Bourne might use his intelligence to set a trap for incoming CIA agents or throw assets off his trail. For instance, in The Bourne Supremacy, after killing a former Treadstone agent, Jason opens the gas connection and puts a magazine into the toaster, so that when the magazine catches fire, the house will explode. Or when in ‘Ultimatum’, he calls the local police and tells them he hears gunfire, so that when the CIA come for him, they will be intercepted by the cops. Such moments are not in Jason Bourne, which takes away what makes Jason Bourne Jason Bourne. I guess this is all part of the fact that Tony Gilroy has not come back to write the movie, which is the biggest problem.

However, these cons aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and the performances were great. Matt Damon was as good as he’s ever been in a ‘Bourne’ movie, and Alicia Vikander was a good, strong new character who’s blank, expressionless face made her character difficult to read. Tommy Lee Jones delivered the good, no-nonsense type performance we’ve come to expect from ‘Bourne’ antagonists. Julia Stiles was good for how much of it she was in, before she was killed off in a reenactment of ‘Supremacy’s opening.

Speaking of the opening, the section in Greece was an astonishing achievement for any action movie, with pulsating chase scenes and well-choreographed action. The only issue was there were literally arrows pointing the asset in Bourne’s direction, which slightly undermined the tension in those moments.

Jason Bourne has some thrilling action sequences and the cast delivers strong performances, which proves that even a second-rate ‘Bourne’ movie is better than most action flicks nowadays.

Such good action blurred by blur....such bad everything else.

The action is on par with the other movies, but the camera is so inconsistent and shaky its often hard to follow . This is normally done to hid an actors inability to fight well but even at his age he is really in shape and a good fighter.

However the story is horrible for some many reasons...forcing the dad into the plot to felted that , forced and changes a lot of the history in an attempt to give the character motivation , Just like what they did with the girl, the problem is its a girl who in all the past movies there was barely more then a minute or 2 of interaction between them , no friendship , no chemistry , just no motivation.

Lets not even talk about the 50 or so GIANT plot holes and force feed answered treating audiences like idiots. Starting with a World class hacking facility with rerouted IPs and hardware capible of helping break into the CIA that doesnt even so much have a UPS , backup batteries or a generator....millions of dollars in hardware...and not even a 5 minute back up power...... Then a flash Drive that literally says encrypted on it , a note book of plot objectives so clearly written out they might as well of just had a voice over with internal mono log explaining things step by step like we were 2 and A Dozen other character motivations that made no logical scene

Tommy Lee Jones was okay in such a predictable role. Vincent Cassel's asset didn't really measure up to previous henchmen. Alicia Vikander was practically redundant. The climatic car chase was too over the top and poorly filmed.

The best thing about the movie was the way it explored the psyche of Bourne as a patriot that deep down maybe wants to be working for his government again. Hopefully the character and franchise get a better send off if another installment is made.

Early on in the film we see Bourne living off the grid, partaking in street fighting to keep himself sane, even allowing himself to receive a beating to combat his guilt, however this interesting direction for the character is short lived and soon he is thrust into the same old scenario we have seen before only this time for a rather contrived motivation. Typical screenplay tropes litter the script and at times the story feels muddied and ham-fisted. A sub-pot merges into the A-story without really feeling developed and characters suddenly have different rules of engagement depending on what best serves the story. Having said all that the action scenes are directed with perfection as you would expect, and the fight sequences are as realistic as ever. Damon Vs Cassel is the biggest draw and when they share the screen the outcome is explosive. A chase through the streets of Vegas is solid, although not up to previous film's final chases, and the opening Athens set piece is high octane stuff. The film is a solid action film but unfortunately holds no patch to the initial trilogy. It does wipe the floor with the Renner led spin-off but you can't help but feel this flawed entry was unneeded. Expand

I'm also over chase scenes in movies. There is nothing they can show me in a chase scene anymore that I haven't seen already. The chase scenes in this film (and there are two) are especially horrible, with overly edited scenes that consist of many one second shots each filmed with a hand held camera that wouldn't stop moving. NOTE TO HOLLYWOOD - PLEASE STOP WITH THE SHAKY CAMERA ALREADY! The plot is also unnecessarily convoluted for the first hour. There are good moments too. The acting is good, when they are allowed to act which isn't very often in this frenetic action pic. It's always fun to see Bourne outwit everyone else. "Jason Bourne" Obtains A Triumphal Entry

Call it what you want: reawaken, reinvention, reboot, revival or resurrection; Jason Bourne is back with iron fists, pectorals of steel and narrative and visual firmness. After the massive and commercial product from 2012 starring Jeremy Renner and directed by Tony Gilroy; Matt Damon reprises safely the role that gave him big recognition at the beginning of the century, he comes back with his favorite director Paul Greengrass, who after nine years does not neglect the soul of the franchise and however, delivers action sequences to rise to George Miller or Sam Mendes.

Bourne is born from shadows with a past as turbid as latent; he has sunk his experience in street fights and loneliness that accompanies him makes the passing the days like years, so to recover his memory entirely, he will be confronted face to face with CIA and will discover the vague past that overwhelms him.

Paul Greengrass has initiated a reciprocity with Damon, in fact, the actor demanded to Greengrass to get his participation in the film. The director already has experience in action movies ( he has directed "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum", respectively), therefore, he firmly demonstrates his radical progress in each frame. Damon and Paul are a mechanical clock, a machine warily synchronized, which allows a consistent and palpitating progress; besides, it is the first time that Damon is producer and Greengrass is screenwriter with Christopher Rouse, resulting in a script aggressively complex (even indecipherable), with fast-paced and sumptuous action scenes.

The incorporation of new characters is not superfluous nor unnecessary, in fact, the arrival of the new Oscar winner is sublime, Alicia Vikander plays Heather Lee, a young analyst with a double role-playing game within the agency that comes together the audience almost immediately, this is a role that Vikander needed to do, which is like a breath of fresh air to her dramatic and award-winning career. Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel and Julia Stiles are part of the fatal attraction around the plot and with no doubt whatsoever, these three characters molded the bulky action sequences around the film; it is important to emphasize in the conclusive decision of the director about exterminate some of his famous actors, undeniably, there will be drama.

"Jason Bourne" initiates in a diffuse context, the film begins to setch around to a stifling political environment, amount of unknowable terms and values for the audience; digital privacy, financial crisis and social disorders synthesize the issues of the atmosphere in which begins the exhilarating plot, nevertheless, it is not problem since after the first fifteen minutes, Greengrass commences to clarify his objectives accompanied by the opening of his specialty, the full of adrenaline and impressive action scenes.

I am aware I have employed "action scenes" repeatedly, precisely because is what leaving "Bourne" engraving after leaving the movie theater. Nowdays, see a sequence that shake with such exquisiteness , it is almost unprecedented, however, the choreographies and practices of the movie dazzles security. The adventure goes from Athens to Las Vegas, jumping from here to there while retaining the originality and intrigue. The night chases full of perspectives and explosions are acclaimed, nevertheless, the movie has conceived one epic sequence, the colossal knock down of automobiles in Las Vegas, I loved it and will stay engraved in the memory of the audience, perennially.

Universal takes maximum advantage of the fifth installment of one of its franchises more long-lived; "Jason Bourne", occasionally, reminds us to franchises such as "Mission: Impossible" or "James Bond" and gradually it gives us one breathe from the frantic passing of story. This film returns strident, with far-fetched action scenes but with narrative fatigues evidenced in the few alternatives that having the protagonist, with respect to delve into his past; undoubtedly, franchise continues, nevertheless, it must consider a different approach to clear argumentative exhaustion.

I was looking forward to this one, as I was keen to see where it would go in terms of a storyline. It's entertaining, Matt Damon is still easy on the eyes and that action is passable. Unfortunately, those are the only things that are memorable. Bringing back the whole Treadstone plot was a bit of a yawn, and Tommy Lee Jones as the government baddie disappointed. See it if you want, for old times sakes. Or skip it. It won't make a difference either way. Expand

A paint-by-numbers action film made to fit in the structure of a Bourne film. It's more episodic, convenient, and poorly paced. It's not bad, but it's missing the pieces that made the original trilogy spectacular.

It sets us up nicely for a proper The Bourne Avenger I'd say.

The only thing missing was your typical damsel in distress that the protagonist macho man has to save. The movie wasn't clever, jason bourne is just a vindictive killer and the ending was anti-climactic. The CIA parts were cringe-worthy, that's all I can say about them. Typical futuristic Tony Stark computers with actors clacking away at keyboards basically doing magic. "People don't know how hacking and computers work! Just throw some big words, crazy animations and make it look cool and you got yourself a dank hacking scene!" Also, the worst line in the film had to be, "it's worse than Snowden." Like what the hell? What CIA agent talks like this? What makes it quantifiably worse than Snowden? Oh right, you just wanted to throw some smart hacker dudes' name in there to sound smart and cool. That's all this movie is... It's trying to be smart, suspenseful and cool but a little thinking allows you to see right through it.. It's a basic action film with a basic plot, basic characters, and basic storytelling. Also, prepare to be nauseated by all the shaky-cam bullsh*t this film uses to cover up bad stuntwork and editing... The entire film looks like it was filmed by a 6 year old with an iphone strapped to his forehead. Expand

But if you're looking for the series to change pace at all or even just introduce compelling new variables into Bourne's background, story, or development, you will be sorely dissappointed. This latest Bourne film's worst flaw is that it serves really no purpose to the greater narrative of the franchise.

Bourne discovers evidence, Bourne gets into car chase, Bourne punches information out of someone, Bourne gets hunted by people in a room filled with computers, Bourne confronts evil G-Man. You've seen it before, and you'll see it all again here. Too much deja vu, not enough nuance to justify anything above a 6/10 from me.

Compared to Ghostbusters, this is a far better two-hour experience, but compared to other great flicks out right now like "The Infiltrator" and "Star Trek: Beyond", there's really no impetus to see this unless you're a die-hard franchise fan. Caveat emptor is the best way I can sum this up.

Not only is the editing frenetic, way over the top and confusing, there is such a thin plot, so overstuffed with special effects and people walking around different citites glaring at each other and stalking each other, that it's almost ludicrous. The "motivation" for poor Jason iis a story that has been told so many times before, in so many other movies, that it just produces a sigh of annoyance when it is finally revealed. If you want headache inducing quick cuts, over real character (Jason has been reduced to some kind of superhuman robot who seemingly can't be killed). Matt Damon has become two dimensional and the director gives him nothing to act against. There is good, there is evil. There is violence, there is some tension, but whoever thinks that watching a computer download files over and over again while someone stares at the screen, should rethink what is inherently dramatic. In one early scene, which seems never to end, we have rioting, fires, chases, shooting, treachery, death, injury, the obligatory car chases, helicopters, glaring (again) evil people, grim (again) good people. This overstuffed sandwich induces nausea. We see Jason in Greece, fighting, being stalked by the evil people. We see Jason in Berlin, fighting and being stalked by the evil people. We see Jason in London, fighting, and being stalked by the evil people. If bigger is better, you'll like this movie. If you don't care about real plot, real character, or true dramatic tension, you'll like this movie. For me, no more Jason Bourne. Expand

Being the most action heavy of the Bourne films, I can say that I was never bored watching this film, not for a second. Some of the dialogue was clunky at the beginning and while I completely understand the complaint most people have with the film doing most of the same as the other three, it didn't bug me a whole lot. The Bourne films are all structured the same and executed the same for the most part but that being said, if they decided to do another movie with Damon, I do hope they try something new with the character. Okay before I talk about "Jason Bourne" let me talk about the other films first, as I think this is the perfect time to quickly talk about other ones, because I like the Bourne trilogy.

The Bourne Identity was a great movie not because of the action or anything, but because of the mystery surrounding the main character. Matt Damon was the perfect choice to play Jason Bourne as I can't imagine anyone else taking that role.

The Bourne Supremacy did a lot of things better than Identity, in terms of the ending, the emotion and just how violent it is. The one thing that no one talks about in Supremacy is how smart it is of delivering the emotion from characters. There's no sad music or overly dramatic dialogue to make you feel something; no, it was all from the actors who had to deliver that and they absolutely do. It honestly made it more effective.

The Bourne Ultimatum was just amazing and I do think it's one of the best action movies in the last decade. The movie is non-stop action and it's so filled with energy, after it's over you need rest from it. The way the movie ends, I thought it was the end for the franchise. But many wonder if another movie was to come, but many seem to think that "Ultimatum" was the last one.

Oh and I'm not counting "Legacy" as part of the series, because lets just ignore that one.

But here we are with "Jason Bourne". Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass return to the franchise and while l thought this installment was an enjoyable one, but it's not as great as the others, unfortunately.

The best part of Jason Bourne was it's opening action sequence with an incredible motorbike chase during a riot. It was quick, intense, exciting and insistently hooks you. The rest of the action was pretty damn good and fights are once again brutal. The one thing this movie does not disappoint on is it's action.

Matt Damon once again dose a great performance as Bourne and after all these years it doesn't feel like he missed a step.

Tommy Lee Jones is basically TLJ, but he was still good. Even with his motivates not being that strong and the character itself isn't anything that compelling.

Alicia Vikander and Julie Stiles were both fine in the movie. They did a decent performance in this and it's always nice to see those two in movies.

Vincent Cassel is an excellent actor and he makes for a perfect hitman to go after Bourne. While the gifted actor is great in this, I wished there was more of him.

Everything was going great....until the actual story of the movie starts. The story evolves around people being concerned about privacy on social media and most of the movie dedicates to this plot. This is when the movie goes down hill and it doesn't take long for that to happen. This story line is so uninteresting and not at all needed for a movie like this. I know this movie is trying something different and there is somewhat of a revenge story here that's not just from the hero perspective but the villain as well. Nothing about this was riveting and it had no emotional weight to it.

The writing was pretty lackluster and not really compelling. Again, the social media plot line really grinded this movie down. This should have been a full on revenge movie and while that may be repetitive for some, but hey, it's got to be better than this. What breaks my heart is that there were plenty of times where this movie could have went into a interesting direction, but instead chooses to stick with the social media crap.

While I thought the Las Vegas chase was pretty enjoyable, I did think it was a little over the top. What I like so much about the previous Bourne movies is how the action scenes feel so realistic and I'm not saying it's like real life, but it was realistic enough to keep you on edge during those sequences. But here, it goes full out nuts with cars flipping and flying in the air. There were so many times where Bourne should have died and the villain as well. It's completely mad.

Overall rating: I enjoyed "Jason Bourne" on an action movie standpoint. There's a lot of things to like in this movie with the directing, the acting and the action, but judging it as a film overall, it was pretty meh. Compare it to Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum, this was unfortunately a massive step down from those three. This movie should have been spectacular but it sadly wasn't.

At least it's better than "Legacy"

This movie felt like a direct-to-DVD sequel that somehow got the green light as a major film. The silver lining is that I laughed a lot. The hacking scenes were clearly written by people who couldn't even be bothered to Google what hacking is like (actual line: "Use SQL to corrupt their database!"); the motivations for every character were paper-thin; the car chase ventured into Fast & Furious territory without being nearly as imaginative and self-aware as those films. Many of the performances, from normally-capable actors, even felt wooden, like nobody's heart was in it. It also felt like they took shaky-cam to a whole new level, but maybe I'm just getting old. I loved the Bourne trilogy; I mildly enjoyed Legacy. This movie was surprisingly and hilariously bad. Expand

The plot slacks considerably under the weight of Paul Greengrass' shaky cam, unnecessarily large action set pieces, and nauseating action towards the end of the film. The Bourne films have always been remarkably built around their plot, not just huge action scenes. Here, however, this is thrown to the side for a bombastic, too loud, and over-the-top film that instead of being a unique action spy film, turns this entry into the beloved franchise into just another cookie cutter action film. The acting is solid across the board and whatever plot that exists is solid, but the film seems far too eager to just skim through the story and get back to explosions. Even worse, Greengrass' affection for shaky cam leaves these fight and chase scenes completely unwatchable. The original trilogy was far more grounded and balanced, but this sequel is far too reliant on action and casts aside any semblance of a plot as a result. Expand

Since Jason Bourne is back on his feet and this time this movie felt badass and at the same time flawed.
After watching Jason Bourne, I already know that there is gonna be a next Bourne movie probably the last before Damon retires his character on the big screen. Although, the same director from the Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum is back but after watching this movie I was disappointed with the story. I would like to debunk this review into a pros and cons sections about my exact thoughts on how I feel about this film:
PROS:
- Matt Damon at it's finest
- Intense Action and Quite Gripping Sequences
- Car Chase Sequence
- Outstanding use of Visuals and Birds Eye Perspective
- Paul Greengrass is back!
CONS:
- Disappointing Story
- Poorly Written Characters
- Confused Plot Consistency
- Editing (Of Couse)
- Lack of Intelligible Writing

Overall, the latest Bourne entry is back but didn't exceed our expectations after the biggest success of Ultimatum. Although, you can still appreciate the action sequences itself rather than plot. And I hope that the next Bourne entry will impress...

It is just like all the other films in the original trilogy - smart, fast-paced, easy to follow, believable and a healthy amount of action. There's not as much of a soundtrack to this one so it doesn't feel as suspenseful as the others, but still has a good story and acting. Firstly the action was great, exhilarating, tense, well choreographed. The acting was good, Matt Damon himself does a stellar job on his return to the character, the supporting cast was good too. The story was decent, but i couldn't help but feel it was useless. Nothing gets accomplished at all, Bourne just finds out a few things about his dad, there was really no other major threat. The movie itself just felt recycled.

It was still a little enjoyable but it really wasn't necessary to the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie is entertaining, especially the last third when the action picks up. However, it is so nearly a parody of itself.

As other reviewers have noted, a lot of the movie is people walking briskly and talking into their wrist to someone else in a tech-laden van, or a control center, or some other computer-screen-filled place. Hollywood's glitzy, clean, never-buggy computer operating system is on full display here. And while technology has no doubt exponentially improved since the first Bourne movie, I still don't think we're at the point where the CIA can INSTANTLY view any closed-circuit camera in the world; INSTANTLY access any phone or internet device ANYWHERE. If you disagree, try getting reliable high-speed, wireless internet service in Albania. I know it's a movie but it is so ridiculous that it was terribly unbelievable. Anywhere anyone goes in this movie, Tommy Lee Jones and his fellow CIA goons can instantly see what's going on, shut down power, interdict phones, computers, anything. Batman didn't have this tech. No static? No lag? Ever? I don't think most of what happens in this movie tech-wise would be possible in even twenty-five years. It has gotten absolutely ridiculous. And I would be remiss if I didn't notice that the movie trotted out the classic 1990s techno-surveillance trope: "ENHANCE." It's 2016. It might be more possible to clean up images today, but the idea that a character standing in a room can just say the word, "Enhance," and cause a totally blurry, pixelated image of a smudge of a person taken with a telephoto lens (instantly uploaded remotely) to turn into a perfect picture of Julia Stiles' character is just absurd. Several people in the theater laughed out loud.

And speaking of unbelievable, what universe is this series operating in? In every Bourne movie there are massive street battles, dozens of government agents killed, explosions in major cities, terrible CIA projects are publicly exposed, director-level CIA personnel are publicly killed or tried (Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, Diane Lane, et al.), murderous plots by the CIA are exposed, Congressional hearings held. And yet, there's always a new CIA director to step in and continue assassinating his butt off like before? Nothing changes? No, "Uh, remember a few years ago...maybe let's not assassinate an American billionaire in public." After the previous events... it's just getting crazy by now.

But TLJ is great. Damon is solid, and, in the end, I'm ready for the next one, featuring the new CIA director antagonist. Not a waste of money, but it's getting tired.

Cast is terrific so why only a 6 ?? Three 10 minute chase scenes are two too many. The 1st chase was good; motor cycle up and down stairs, weaving in and out of an on going civil riot in Athens. Julia Styles on the back..its was exciting but the next two were pure overkill . Enough of the chases scenes and elaborate property damage. 2016 directors do not understand or appreciate subtlety in their films. Less is more . Other than that, film had good pacing and left a little hook at the very end to entice interest in the next segment Expand

The prior three (to hell with Jeremy Renner) were a great fusion of action, suspense and thrills that wrapped up nicely. Lots of stern people, barking orders with an impressive (delusional) sense of self confidence. It worked for its time--let sleeping dogs lie.

...But no, we can't help picking away at anything and everything until it bleeds--knowing when to walk away IS a skill. So, here we are with another Bourne film after being promised by the Director and Lead Actor "never again". What has nine years absence bought us?

Not a lot. The formula is familiar: improvised action scenes, assets, car chases, war room, etc. Nine years hasn't changed Paul Greengrass's desire to fall back on familiar tropes. In order to continue providing stakes, a sudden insertion of Bourne's father (never mentioned previously) gives him the thinnest of reasons to pop back on the radar, and start racking up the kill count/damage bill.

Someone forgot to tell the screenwriters involved how different the world is today. Absurd tech-talk reigns supreme, with part of the story evolving around a generic Facebook-alike known as Deep Dream working with the Government to eavesdrop on its users, in the interests of national security of course. The film flashes all over the world as Bourne continues to work his way toward the "Boss", completely immune to local law enforcement or customs, avoiding and infiltrating with superhuman accuracy. Most of these criticisms are in effect in the previous films as well, the difference being, we've grown out of this style of film since whilst the movie is still stuck back there.

It's not a bad movie, but it's not worth the time and resources taken to bring it back as is. Signs of an interesting premise are hinted with Alicia Vikander attempting to play both sides in order to engender his trust and bring him in, but it counts for nought in the end--just another familiar trope.

I remember Steven Spielberg once exclaiming that they had waited for the right script before they jumped into "Crystal Skull", and look at what we got. A lesson, amongst many, that teach us no matter how experienced or professional; no matter how many previous successes; nothing and nobody is immune from errors or mistakes in judgement. This is one of those.

In between these scenes they get weighed down by his morose brooding and sulking about the people he killed, cars he crashed, etc. As a result they've always been rather joyless and unsatisfying compared to something like Die Hard or Taken, where the hero is fighting for people he loves and believes in the moral rightness of his actions.

I don't have much to say about this specific movie except to note that it's a ridiculously cynical and inessential copy-paste exercise that brings nothing new to the franchise, and that Damon's face has aged really badly. He looks all pinched and gross now, one might say "like a Streisand".
