"IT" was just the right amount of horror and suspense with a fair amount of humor (The kids in this movie where **** hilarious). A lot of people say that the movie falls apart in the last hour, but I disagree. For a 135 minute movie, I feel that it was paced very well and I didn't fell like the movie was dragging once.

When I read some of the negative reviews, I feel like the reviewer is not aware of the fact that "IT" is much more than a horror movie.

Never watch the original, never read the book, watched the first one, the story is kinda dissapointed me. However, it's a fun movie, and fresh escape from all those Marvel movies.

The second one, pretty much the same. But a little bit more "satisfying" from the first one. The origin of Pennywise was never told clearly, just vague, and came from "million years ago". This is my only gripe for both movie.

But overall, both movies still fun, I wouldn't call it a "horror" movie per se. I've seen more disturbing and scarier movie than both It movies. I actually feel like watching The Goonies all over again, with modern touch and very well done VFX.

And that final fight between the losers and Pennywise, obviously gamers would just love it. So cool and so epic.

This is a solid 8/10 comedy, but pretty much fails as a horror. I was not prepared for how much this movie would make me laugh.

The acting was solid and the setting great, my main peeve with this film (besides it being funny instead of remotely scary) were a lot of events or lines lacking context (unless you've read the book, so why even include them?) and what felt like quite a few scenes were missing or cut. Perhaps a director's cut will improve on those gaps, but nothing can save this hilarious film and make it spooky. Also go read the book, if you like long, rambling, sprawling subtle horror and history and atmosphere, it's amazeballs.

I am a bit surprised with how well this is scored from a user perspective. The cinematography is pretty solid, as is the acting, and the script is decent. That's all fine and dandy, it's a technically solid film in that way.

It's supposed to be a horror film though and not once did me or the other 4 people watching feel suspense, worry, or scared in any capacity. Pennywise would certainly be a scary thing to deal with in real life, but I don't think the movie did anything to give any credit to that. Furthermore the pacing is not very good, we paused it shortly after the bathroom clean-up and were all shocked that there was nearly 40 minutes left.

I never saw the original, but I don't really care to after seeing this.

However, a year-and-a-half after seeing it, I finally realized what it is missing: melancholy. The 1990 made-for-TV adaptation did a good job of capturing the melancholy that the main characters feel growing up in an impoverished town with indifferent or even cruel parents. The 2017 version ignores this melancholy and instead tries to make the main characters funny and cute, a la Stranger Things; this attempt at humor feels too forced and contrived. Overall, though, the movie is enjoyable and even a little scary. Expand

IT 2017
Andy Muschietti's mama had a strange ghost. He introduced a new appearance of ghost. I appreciated his invention to scare us although it wasn't a big hit like "it". "It" is a movie based on Stephen King's Novel and also there has already been a movie in 1990. I like big movies, it is difficult to make especially when it comes to horror. Nothing is more shameful for a director to make a boring film especially if it is horror that's because your imagination sucks which means your screenplay is absurd, so the story as well as the music. I found "it" to lack a quality story. It is a movie about child's arm being eaten, a father seducing her daughter, a mother lies her son about a serious disease he doesn't have, a teenager's cowardice to kill a sheep. We see the same boring lights flickering, stupid disturbing soundtracks especially when something spooky is expected. Absurd nasty characters walk on streets and our teenage heroes find them real and very surprising than being scared of. Everyone reacts in a very curious manner than being scared of in the same way and the other day they hardly share their paranormal experiences among the group. I could not find although I tried my best to discover something new in the movie but every single scene is nothing more than what we have already seen even in cheap movies. I couldn not understand the philosophy of the two psychopaths in the film neither could enjoy. One is a senior kid with his bizarre mind to harm helpless weak students. And the other one is the pennywise. The floating phenomenon does not have a good explanation. I had failed every way to enjoy the film yet I failed because it felt like an adaptation of certain scenes in other horror movies. The photography and cinematography could not make me focus on the characters. There is a scene when Ben was scratched by Pennywise and we could see the bloody deep cut and he doesn't have enough reaction to it while in the next cut we see him keeping his hands on the wound. I tried my best to still keep watching such an imbalanced, distraction-full movie. I haven't read the book but if the movie is completely based on the book and of the ending is all same, then I would say it needs a better story. Better characters. I was thinking how could they hurt or kill a dead being and how or why God was silent for the evil to prevail! It would have much better to modify the story with God to contact our hero as he is going to die, as he mentions in the beginning, and to tell what's blocking him to save the floating beings, so to guide him a world between evil and good.

The story plods along in a predictable fashion, crafting a series of contrived coincidences for this band of misfits and outcasts to come together, then slagging a bunch of derivative horror and teen drama cliche on top. This includes the splitting up of groups in obviously dangerous situations, the breakup of friendships followed by their inevitable reconciliation in the last half-hour, competing love interests, oh and there's even a 'power of love' scene in here.

The film makes a point of depicting the monster of 'It' as the representation of each character's fears, visible only to themselves and those they confide in. The monster disappears after the protagonists face their fears and overcome past grievances, and I guess this is the film's way of showing the struggles and uncertainties during our coming of age. It's a period of growth and transition that can seem nightmarish at times, and hopefully we come out the other end stronger as the protagonists of 'It' did with newfound resolve. These characters however are otherwise fairly one-dimensional because once you get past the whole 'what is their fear' thing, there's not really much else about them besides typical teenage stuff and cheesy comebacks. When you get to the actual horror part of the film, what's there is mostly just Pennywise doing weird crap, gore and jump scares.

The cast is absolutely outstanding, every single one of the children put in a great performance, and each of them are extremely likeable in their individual roles. However, they were nothing compared to Bill Skarsgard's oscar- worthy performance as Pennywise. He is creepy, scary to look at and just the perfect actor for this role. The story is also really excellent, it has you hooked from the start. However my one complaint about this film is the scary- aspect. Sure, it's creepy but not once was I really frightened. This is possibly to do with the jump scares, as most of them felt comedic rather than scary, which I think was due to the direction. However other than that I can't really find anything else about It that I didn't like, this is definitely one of my favourites this year. Expand

Pourquoi
la peur

a choisi d

There are certainly a few flaws such as Mike Hanlon disappointingly given the shaft when it came to character development and dialogue as well as a couple of scare scenes suffering from less-than-optimal CGI.

But everything else was absolutely top-notch from the acting, the directing, to the forbidding atmosphere. If I had to describe this movie, it would probably be a combination of the demonic spook-house thrills of The Conjuring series combined with the setting of Stranger Things and the antics found in 80’s nostalgic classics such as The Goonies.

Even though the trailers have sold It as a horror film and while it is indeed a solid horror film, this is not the movie’s strongest attribute. That is because at it’s heart the movie is a touching coming-of-age story with Pennywise serving more as a metaphor for the traumas and personal issues that each of the members of the Loser’s club must overcome. I think it’s due to this reason that the movie not only ends up being one of the best King adaptations ever, but possibly one of the best movies of the year period.

I was so disappointed. I feel they completely destroyed the tension going the kids only route.

I was hoping for the same chemistry between the kids in the Losers Club, that the miniseries had and maybe some interesting new twists in the adult parts...

Instead we get a bunch of dick/yo mama "humor", a decidedly UNscary clown, "Said No One Ever" dialog and generic main characters we don't know enough about to care, that get methodically "frightened" one after another until you just want to scream, " Enough already! We get it, scary, scary CLOWN!"

It was like the Goonies with a dash of E.T. and every movie cliche there is.

What they did with the character of Mike was terrible. And I hear they plan on making him a drug addict in part two. Uhhggg.

If not for the casual, improved humorous bickering, I wouldn't have cared.

IT

Muschetti's adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel does its best on being "how" it wants to be. For the attempts to reach the higher ideal might be missed repetitively but the procedure it follows and the tricks it plays, fails to hide its true side. And those sleazy parlor tricks are actually attention grabbing. Hence, the co-writer and director, Andy Muschetti's film trends top on the wall of its younger audience. Because this is how it was intended to be. Using safe, scientifically approved(!)- maybe that's a bit much- and successful methods, they are delivering the anticipated result on the table.

It isn't informative, innovative or bombastic, as it claims to be. And yes, those standard scenarios are painted all over the pages in King's book, but those colors are brightened by deep themes exploring single pure emotions of daily lifestyle that gets by unnoticed. Which, by the way, is completely neglected and also negotiated for an easier and lazier theory to reach its larger audience. Muschetti also fails to scare the audience on any levels.

Only few moments, when he catches you off guard, which too comes off utterly cheap in the form of narrative. Let's take an antic that comes in the middle of the film, where the Losers' Club enters the haunted house. Now, in that scenario, Bill (Jaeden Martell) and Richie (Finn Wolfhard) are stuck in a room where a poisonous blood is about to reach and bury or poison them. Agreeing to the fact that it is hokum, a bluff, intended to distract the characters, but I cannot help on defining the entire film in that scenario. For that very scene sums up the film for me. Since, knowing what it is, the film still remains lazy. As it never tries to convince the threat to you, to the audience. IT lacked the splashy, speedy, maniacal, maddening camera work that usually breathes life into a horror.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a bit biased, I have always liked Stephen King's books, and his movies. Yes, even the horrible ones. I do love the original tv series with Tim Curry, but Bill Skarsgard is just as good, but in a more horrific way.

The first thing you have to know, this is only half the book. This is the kid portion of the story. They have already hired the writer and are starting the sequel which is supposed to be the adult story. They even ended the movie with a "chapter one" meaning they knew they were going to do it.

So let's focus on the kids. They are all great, including the mouthy Finn from Stranger Things. The acting was great, the stories for each kid were interesting, and horrifying in their own ways (especially Henry and Beverly's, yes even the bad kid Henry had an interesting and almost heart breaking childhood).

The effects were great, but they didn't lean on them too much, a lot of darkness, a lot of charging attacks, but nothing so horribly CGI that it would jar. Although the greatest effect was Bill Skarsgard himself. The voices he could make, the looks he gave, especially the intensity, were the most horrifying thing in the movie.

The directing was great too. They cut the story down, made it lean by doing something I wasn't sure about, only covering half the book. They also got rid of the group sex scene from the book, definitely made it less skeevy that way. All the decisions I saw made the movie better.

I rank it up there with Kubrick's the Shining as one of my favorite King movies.

The good: Everything. The acting, directing and of course the source material.

The bad: I did feel like I was missing something, but that is because I have read the book and watched the mini-series and it felt strange to not have the adult half of the story. It was a good choice, and that bad is on me, but it was the one thing that made me hesitate.

GO SEE IT!

Plot: 7

Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel of the same name, this movie is about a group of seven children in Derry, Maine who are terrorised by a mysterious entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Skarsgård).

Several months after the death of his six years old brother, Georgie, Bill Denbrough (Lieberher) is unable to move on from his death and believes that he may still be alive. For the summer, Bill recruits his friends to investigate. During the process of their investigation, they made new friends Ben Hanscom, Beverly Marsh (Lillis) and Mike Hanlon.

Ben also learns that the town which they live in have been plagued by unexplained reasons and child disappearance tragedies for centuries. To that end, they are targeted by Pennywise the Dancing Clown which they refer to as “It” and being the one responsible for the murder of Georgie. Bill and his friends need to work together to fight Pennywise to stop the entity from causing more havoc in their town.

If you are a fan of Stephen King’s works, you will enjoy this one. Not only that it’s a good horror movie, it is also best adaptation of his work. What makes this horror movie good is the movie does not lazily rely on jump scares. Instead, the movie focus on building up the suspense from the beginning and having a good writing and story.

Character developments is one of the strong points for this movie. The characters especially the teen casts are very well developed and the chemistry between the cast are great and very natural as if they are real life friends outside of the movie sets. They really deserved this kind of praises for their performance. Kudos to them.

Bill Skarsgård’s take on Pennywise is great and he has done a great and terrifying performance in this role. I’m sure Tim Curry, who played Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries, will be proud of his acting ability. The violence and gore are very well executed and never go overboard with it just to make it better.

Credits should go Andy Muschietti as well for his great direction for this movie as the studios have spent years of trying to make this movie. If it weren’t for him, I do not know who else can make this movie. While the movie is great, there is one tiny flaw from my point of view. I felt the pacing during the first act was a little slow and felt boring from time to time. Thankfully, the pacing of second and third act were better as it goes.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie despite having not read the actual novel. Since the movie only adapted half of Stephen King’s novel, I believe that there will be sequel to his movie which I think will cover the other half. If the sequel is happening, I will look forward to it (no pun intended). While there are many bad horror movies, this one is not one of them. In fact, I recommended this movie especially for those who are fans of horror movies and Stephen King.

I thought it would be a horrible movie that I would call bad, and mock the whole time at the movies. The movie opens up and I'm cynically poking fun at it, but then the movie kind of starts to take its self less seriously and I really enjoyed that. I like the whole bad ass kid way this movie goes. It really does a good job of making it kind of feel realistic. Most kids that age think they're cool because they cuss and think they're the best thing ever, and that they're so strong. That's how order kids are. They tend to think they're bulletproof, at least I know my friends and I did. The movie is serious/scary when it needs to be, and it's funny and doesn't take itself too seriously when it doesn't have to. Really cool stuff, tbh. Really surprised me. Expand

By far the strongest aspect of It is its acting. Not only are the child protagonists capable of acting well beyond their years, but Bill Skarsgard portrays the best crazed lunatic since Heath Ledger's Joker!

It's hard to find visuals that thrill in this day and age with such state-of-the-art effects having become commonplace, but is manages to deliver with excellence in makeup and camera tricks that made me emit an audible "Woah!"

As a horror film itself, It unfortunately falls flat. The scares are very effective, to be sure, but are too few and far between to sustain lasting tentions. It tries to balance sweet, heartfelt chemistry between the heroes with brutal, graphic terror and it can't seem to get the ratio just right, as the transition is often apparent and forced. It, despite its imperfections, breathes much-needed life into the dying horror genre and is well worth the price of admission.

Andrés did a very good job on giving the story an entire new look and a refreshing remake. Although it started out fairly slow and similar to the original one. It took up it's pace fast and immediately gave a new twist to the story. The story was kept interesting thanks to the angle we got on it through a bunch of different characters. It is directed by Andy Muschietti, written by Chase Palmer and starring Bill Skarsgrd with some others kids.

It's an adaption from Stephen King's novel, and it's about children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

I actually didn't like the young actors, I hated how they made them insult too much, I hated the part about bullies and school life.. sometimes the humor was not funny and unnecessarily.

The performances were really bad, except for Bill Skarsgrd.

The plot was very scary, the movie was good as scaring, but not really good as a whole movie.. some elements were damaged because of the things I mentioned above.

Still I liked It and I'm gonna give it a B+.

Thank you, guys as always for watching, hope you my new ways of reviews, and I welcome all of your comment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. IT (2017) is a remake of Stephen King’s novel with the same name, directed by Andy Muschietti. It was about a group of unpopular kids being bullied by others called the Losers’ Club and one day, a creature called IT (Bill Skarsgard), who could morph into anything anyone fears, came to Derry, Maine and tried to separate the kids apart and also terrorize Derry. The kids had to find the clown and kill it and before that, they had to deal with the things they were afraid of. You know before this movie, there was a Tv movie called Stephen King’s It (1990) and I saw a few clips about it. I didn’t want to see the whole movie because it was more than 190 minutes and it took really long. After seeing some clips, I was bored with it. IT from 1990 sucks, the clown Pennywise was more like a playful villain, not the one who tried to scare kids and killed kids. Tim Curry only wanted to play with kids, not to scare them and when he did, it wasn’t scary, only his make-up face. I didn’t like Stephen King’s 1990 adaptation at all. Starring Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough (or stuttering Bill), Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Gazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. In many movies, kids sucked at acting, especially childish movies but in this movie, I really love the acting, the kids did a really excellent job on it, swearing here and there and they’re phenomenal. I really like Finn being Richie and I also liked his language (he used it wisely). Jaeden acted exactly like Bill in the novel (he stammered well like “Ge-Ge-Georgie”) and Bill Skarsgard was 100% perfect for the role as IT. His Pennywise was really scary and usually popped out at the right time and audiences feared his character, his looks (well not the clown suit). In I really liked the make-up of Pennywise in here, much better than Tim Curry’s (his face was like a clown who wanted to play with kids). I also loved the CGI effects in here. Nothing was funny about Pennywise being edited with the effects. His face was truly terrifying. The terrifying creatures were well-set and . The cinematography was really good. It was filled with darkness and frightening. The rooms were dark and they made objects (at least one) fell and it was scary. I really liked when they’re doing something that no adults would trust (like you’re telling your parents what you’ve seen “Mommy, I saw dead people in my room” they won’t believe and I saw movies like this such as Candance in Phineas and Ferb told her mom that her brother were inventing something and when she went to see the invention, nothing was there). Benjamin Wallfisch did really great with the original score. The piano soundtrack was as creepy as everything was in the movie and they used kids singing (it was also really creppy on so many levels). Kids’ voice were also used as a character’s flashback which was scary and the line (You’ll Float Too) was scary as well but I loved his soundtrack “Every 27 Years” the most. It (2017) was such an excellent Stephen King’s adaptation. The performances were great (Bill Skarsgard was freaking me out), the CGI was well-used and the original score was creepy. This adaptation was a hundred times better than the 1990 one and it was one of the greatest Stephen King’s adaptation based on his greatest book (the book was extremely long and I hadn’t finished reading it yet). Emotional moments felt lifeless and unnatural, comedic moments were forced and unnecessary, pointless scenes slowed the movie down and one scene in particular was incompetent. The reliance on CGI, executing a villain poorly and wasting screentime for important characters was another problem. I'd go into detail, but I'd just be nitpicking and I don't want that. This film is ultimately a disappointment with little to no redeeming qualities. I don't understand what makes this film so 'impressive' when films with similar 'positives' (like Halloween 2018 or Child's Play 2019) get shot down and critiqued. Expand

A lot of the elements from the book are retained and the changes such as moving the setting from the 1950s to the 1980s works for the most part. The kid actors in the movie are beyond fantastic. They are such a great group and they really do feel like friends. There is a slight Stand by Me vibe at times which really works to the movie’s benefit. I was very impressed by Sophia Lillis who plays the young Beverley Marsh and Finn Wolfhard who plays Richie Tozier but they were all excellent. I was actually most concerned about Bill Skarsgård being able to convincingly pull off Pennywise (especially after Tim Curry) but I needn’t have worried because he brought a whole new meaning to word ‘terrifying’. He wasn’t Tim Curry but didn’t try to be which definitely was the right choice. He made the role his own. The story was tweaked in places and there were some changes but overall it retained the feel of the book which I think is much more important than being a direct word-for-word, scene-for-scene adaptation. I can’t really say that IT is a scary movie, even though one of the jumpscares got me once, but I just loved the combination of visuals, cast acting, soundtrack as well as the pace of the plot. To cut a long story short: IT is recommended! Expand

It’s just sense they had 7 main characters, they all don’t equally get the same amount of screen time, but it’s not that big of a deal. I gave this movie an 9/10 because it was really a great movie, there were just a few small things that held it back from reaching that sweet sweet 10/10. Expand

A beautiful display of childhood friendship and love, It captures everything we loved from the iconic horror novel by Stephen King. It has heart, horror, charisma, and comedy, a true breath of fresh air.

It plays on the whole childhood adventure drama which makes it feel relatable. After the first seen you are instantly captivated in how the film will turn out. The effects used have such a realistic look to them you would think they are real. This plays a huge part in the horror that is involved throughout the film. Most importantly the character development was incredible. Each character had such a unique persona you would fall in love with each of them. There personalities clash so well which gives the movie more value. Over all I'd give this movie a 7. Expand

I haven't had the pleasure of reading the book yet. The story of the film impressed me a lot. I love the harmony that children have. What a fear I felt that clown. Amazing.

The kids are great in this! The story is hard to fully judge because there is going to be a part 2 that’s so closely designed and planned. That being said it’s a good movie.

Bill Skarsgård delivers a twisted-funny performance as Pennywise. Some scenes are unsettling and build suspense but aside from the clown room & Beverly taken scenes, this film could of been scarier. Funny lines were delivered on queue as well.

They were boring and terrible actors. Pennywise did a phenomenal job at what he was trying for. What a great remake overall. Expand

The kids are great but the horror parts fail to do their job because it's just a trite collection of cheap tricks you already saw a million times. I understand the monsters have to be a little cartoonish because they're based on what the kids are afraid of, but to the eye of an adult it's just silly, not scary or creepy. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bill Skarsgård is the definitive Pennywise, far scarier and more intense than Tom Curry’s iconic wacky portrayal. I thought Sophia Lillis (Beverly Marsh), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Ben Hanscom) and Jaeden Martell (Bill Denbrough) were incredible leads, followed by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard as witty Richie Tozier, Jack Dylan Grazer as hypochondriac Eddie Kasprak, Chosen Jacobs as outcast Mike Hanlon and Wyatt Olef as Jewish Stanley Uris. An excellent cast, production and awesome scares Expand
