This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never understood why the story that Trevor Slattery was, in fact, a fake Mandarin automatically launched the film into overwhelming dislike. Live action movies are one thing, comics are another. Is it so hard to understand? Otherwise, a light film, a bit anachronistic for a third chapter, but perhaps inevitable when you are the first adaptation to come out after The Avengers. Expand

Have you ever walked out of a movie feeling it worthy of an Oscar or to get to work the next day and hear a coworker say it was the worst movie they had ever seen? How can that be? We watched the same movie, right? For example, when I watched Iron Man 3, I thought Robert Downey Jr.'s performance was lackluster and "phoned in." He almost appeared bored to me. However, according to others RDJ did an amazing performance and his "take on someone with PTSD was inspired." Huh? PTSD, because of what? The alien invasion in The Avengers? I did not see it that way. And that isn't the only example. But as you can see the media we consume can garner different reactions from different people. Expand

None of the Ironman movies have been beyond just passing and this one isn't too different besides the fact it's evidence of the trilogies decline. Tony's search for revenge is a humorless dovetail into the worst parts of action movies.

This did not improve on the villain problem, this time it was not as forgettable, i don't know how to explain why but i just did not like them. I don't know if this is supposed to be an unpopular opinion (I will know it is after I see people marking my review Unhelpful), but I really liked Iron Man 2. There is something about MCU's Iron Man that I really like. The only Marvel comic II don't know if this is supposed to be an unpopular opinion (I will know it is after I see people marking my review Unhelpful), but I really liked Iron Man 2. There is something about MCU's Iron Man that I really like. The only Marvel comic I have read which has Iron Man in it is Avengers vs Thanos, and I really didn't like him in it. So to be specific, I really like everything about Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man. When I had watched the Iron Man movies for the first time, I used to always talk and behave like Tony Stark. That's how much he influenced me. And now that this was the fourth movie (including The Avengers), of course I was gonna like it.

As usual Robert Downey Jr was the star of the movie. Whenever he's in any scene, his charm always makes it interesting to watch. The movie begins with Tony having PTSD from the climax scene of The Avengers. And now he also has to battle The Mandarin. I had heard that people did not like what the movie did to him, but it was only after watching some videos I learnt why people were unhappy. Like I mentioned, I have only read one Iron Man comic, and that too I began just a few weeks ago. I watched this movie a few YEARS ago. So obviously, like Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor and Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern, I really enjoyed it until I learnt I wasn't supposed to.

Other than that I like everything about this movie. Once again the CGI, the acting, the music is all great. This movie also has much, much better action scenes than most other MCU movies, considering Iron Man movies always have those. I get excited seeing one new Iron suit, here there are dozens. Consider me sold. The only one problem I had was how weak Iron Man had become, that his Iron suits are getting beaten up by normal humans with weapons.

You know those movies that stay in your memories but you don't talk about them until they are brought up? For me this is one of those movies. I watched it after he release of Infinity War, since that was the time I started watching all MCU movies to catch up before Endgame. This movie clearly stood out in my bingewatch. This is the reason why I'm all praises for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie is horrible and a badly executed mess not only the villain's motives are stupid (those of the real Mandarin when they leave him planted) but they had the hypocrisy of presenting a fake villain in the trailers and in the movie just to be a nobody else who is humiliated throughout the film and that the villain is someone practically taken out of nowhere and that practically the viewer does not know, in short it shows that they tried and had the intention to give a message about the mistakes of the past can have consequences in the future but the way they did it was painful and horrible to the point where you focus more on the movie's mistakes and bad screenwriting than it did on everything else. my score for this movie would be a 1 out of 10 because the movie at least had fights but the good stuff gets there, the following was terrible thing after horrible thing bad music, bad plot, undeveloped and forgettable characters (who remembers the true mandarin nobody), characters that were wasted (the fake mandarin could be the real mandarin and could have much more prominence than he had) and a meaningless ending (why did iron man destroy all his armor if he is going to need them to face thanos and future threats? and what is worse because then they appear in infinity war and endgame as if the events of iron man 3 had not happened?) so it is definitely one of the worst marvel movies and one that contradicts all subsequent movies that marvel happened so if possible I recommend not seeing this movie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first saw Iron Man 3 back in 2013, I honestly disliked it a lot. I was expecting an action-packed Iron Man movie where Tony blows **** up. But that's not what Iron Man 3 is. Iron Man 3 is more of a Tony Stark movie than an Iron Man movie. If it were called Tony Stark - The Movie, I would have probably reacted more positively. I was also angry about what they did to the Mandarin character. I knew Mandarin from the 1994 Iron Man animated series. He was a powerful villain. But now he's just a false flag actor? What? That meant Mandarin could never appear in the MCU again. Look, I'm a fan of taking risks and subverting expectations, but not like this. Have the Mandarin be the actual Mandarin, but the twist is he teams up with Iron Man against Killian or something. I've watched Iron Man 3 a couple of times since it came out, and now I have a more positive opinion about it. The most interesting thing about it is Tony Stark having to deal with the trauma of the massive New York battle. This makes the MCU feel much more real, with consequences and repercussions. So that's the movie's strongest point. This movie also further fleshes out Tony Stark's character.

Initially, Killian seemed to be a very interesting vilain. At first he's an ugly and awkward guy, he's a cripple, everyone treats him like crap. But later he develops the Extremis virus, modifies his body, becomes attractive and people start treating him better. It would have been a good opportunity for some social commentary. But in the movie he's just a bad guy. At the beginning Pepper is a bit surprised to see him and she's attracted to him, and Tony is jealous, but that's pretty much all they do with it. That was kind of disappointing.

Robert Downey Jr. continues to be a lot of fun as the lead, while Don Cheadle is more enjoyable than he is in 'Iron Man 2'. Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley are good to watch too, the latter amused me more than I thought he would.

I'd rank this higher than the 2010 sequel, though it's still a fair distance off the original. This 2013 film leaves a positive impression.

Not to mention it has the worst plot twist in cinematic history. The most disappointing MCU movie and the second worst one right behind Thor: The Dark World. The trailers were all lies, they promised us a dark, epic, serious, life-threatening struggle and adventure for Tony Stark and him trying to find and confront the Mandarin, but what we ended up getting was a stupid cookie-cutter kids’ movie with terrible, unfunny jokes, bad acting, countless plot holes, a billionaire’s bodyguard who had a mullet back in 1999 even though mullets weren’t styled that year, a former bodyguard that is now head of security who is a stupid fatass that does not know how to flip a screen on an iPad, an idiotic protagonist who got himself into a bad situation and his own mansion destroyed by revealing his own home address to a terrorist on live TV, a protagonist who has poorly acted and unconvincing PTSD scenes with wooden acting, an annoying **** girlfriend who is damsel in distress (played by an obnoxious, arrogant, snobby actress), a supervillain who is a Syndrome rip-off, a sidekick in a much less cool flying suit of armor than in the previous Iron Man film that is wasted and doesn’t kill any enemies with it, an annoying kid (played by a child actor who couldn’t act) who at first couldn’t recognize the world’s most famous man in his garage despite reading the front newspaper article of that arrogant billionaire supposedly being dead after his mansion was destroyed by terrorists in helicopters, a sidekick who could detect heat signatures on people in the Middle East but somehow couldn’t detect the Extremis woman disguised as a Muslim and gets paralyzed after shaking her hot hand and she is still somehow able to kidnap him and take him to their lair despite him weighing heavy in the Iron Patriot suit, a drunken British actor pretending to be the Mandarin who was just working for the Syndrome rip-off the entire time, a president who gets kidnapped by being put into the Iron Patriot suit and flying himself to the docks instead of fighting back because the Syndrome rip-off’s sidekick somehow forced him to...., an Iron Man armor getting destroyed so incredibly easily a bunch of times even when it was run over by a truck and broke into pieces despite the Mark III Iron Man armor surviving a hit from a tank missile, the hero telling his sidekick that the Iron Man armors were only coded to him despite the fact that his **** girlfriend and the villain being able to wear one of them too, the villain surviving wearing a suit that self-destructed, the **** girlfriend surviving a fall and saving the day by killing the villain instead of the hero, the hero destroying all of his own suits just to please his annoying **** then throwing away his mini arc reactor into the sea at the end, and no AC/DC music. What a stupid and disappointing way to end the Iron Man Trilogy! No real Iron Man fan likes this god-awful movie. Easily the worst and most disappointing one in the Iron Man Trilogy. Shane Black is a douchebag! This movie SUCKS!!! Expand

Straying off a bit from the path of the first 2 movies, Iron-Man 3 instead shifts its focus on Tony Stark, his mental health and his relationships of those around him than that of Iron-Man. The villain (Aldrich Killain aka The Manderin) joins the list of disposable and unmemorable MCU antagonists along with Ronan, Yellowjacket, ect and the twist, if you can call it that, involving Trevor Slattery is lazy and not well done. To put it in perspective, M Night Schamalan comes up with better twists in his sleep. That being said, Iron Man 3 has enough action to overcome its flaws and it's a solid film overall. Expand

If I miss one I won't be able to pay the mortgage... Anyway, this movie is an EPIC FAIL!!!! Words cannot describe how awful this film is. Forgettable characters, bad visual effects, and a horrible story. As a renowned and trusted user reviewer on this site, I can say without a doubt that this is the worst film of 2019. How bad was it? Let me compare it to one of the greatest cinematic miracles of the century; Suicide Squad. Unlike MARVEL, DC has memorable characters. No one cares about Iron Man more than Captain Boomerang! I honestly do not care about Pepper either. She is just a boring character that moves the plot. Pathetic. Suicide Squad is FUN. Even though I had absolutely no idea what was going on, it still was a great film, because they fought bad guys. You could say Iron Man also fights baddies, but it doesn't have as much as an emotional impact as the amazing Suicide Squad. And also, what is that villain??? SO BAD! Marvel seriously need to take notes from DC, as they can actually develop villains such as Hector Hammond in Green Lantern and Mr. Freexe from Batman and Robin. I'm honestly astonished critics are viewing this movie as "passable". This movie should be banished to the depth of hell. Marvel seriously sucks and will forever be inferior to the DC universe.

With love,

Black and Downey reunited for no kiss but tons of bang; almost loud enough to drown out other voices.

Iron Man Three

Black definitely goes back to early filmmaking tactics. Scoffing off all the pop culture references and not including an analogous rhythm in the system, there is an admiring obligation that he feels towards his viewers. Shane Black, the co-writer and director, ought to and has to justify his characters by giving them enough reasons and room to pitch in, no matter what and how big a price he has to pay, he takes it with a big smile on his face. In the previous chapter of Favreau, the humor was turned to 11, and even though compared to it, it still is low and smooth, it also is questionable at times in here.

Personally, I feel that this is MCU's biggest threat, contrary to popular opinion, this double edged sword might one day consume a film in its sweetness. Take the last act, for instance, Downey in a port going mano-y-mano with Guy Pearce and taking heavy losses still keeps a certain levity in his vocab. Now, this is something that often happens in this franchise that vigorously rottens its sincerity. These tiny things are accounted, for the game this franchise is now, a mistake like such isn't acceptable.

And not that the film is competent in every other way, in fact, if anything, it sort of is a mirror to the original Favreau chapter, from cornering Downey to prove himself beyond and without his wealth and fame, to still trying to balance him on the edge of the responsibility factor. Don Cheadle gets a much bigger half in the supporting cast, with lots of eye rolling and sarcastic exhales. Excluding the fist fight, Pearce is not a threatening antagonist, nor is Gwyneth Paltrow or Rebecca Hall a decent supporter. Ben Kingsley's character paints the picture with accurate colors, where Downey tries a lot but against all odds, Iron Man Three remains a distraction, a colorful one though.

Make no mistake, Iron Man 3 is an absolute insult to anyone who ever liked a good film or anyone who ever picked up a comic book. Sometimes, you can make a good comic book movie while not following the source material closely. Sometimes, you can make a bad comic book while following the source material. Well, with this movie, we got a comic book movie that does not follow the source material but it's still bad. To describe the utter idiocy of everything happening with the characters and the story is not enough to fit into the word limit that this site allows in reviews. The setup of the main conflict in the movie is laughable. A guy gets mad at the main hero for not fulfilling his wish, and his wish was to... meet him at the rooftop? That is the conflict that drives the whole movie. A guy is mad at Tony Stark because Tony Stark promised the guy to meet him at some place, but then he was too busy getting laid, so he forgot about him, and that made that guy sad. That's our conflict, everyone! This is so bad, it makes you question if whoever wrote this nonsense wanted to intentionally write a story as bad as they can. Well, they achieved what they were seeking. The movie's premise, its characters, its everything is nothing short of terrible in every sense of that word. Tony Stark is a cardboard cutout in this movie. The main villain is a cardboard cutout in this movie. And the ending, where our hero's love interest suddenly gains powers and turns into a superhero, is the most anticlimactic, dumb ending to a superhero movie since Catwoman. It may be even worse than that. If you want to watch a good Iron Man movie, watch the first one. Expand

The hype to see the Mandarin on the big screen was totally over because of the twist Ben Kingsley (The Mandarin), was just a drunk, British stage actor that worked for the real Mandarin, a guy who gets very hot and can melt things with his hands. It was very underwelming, the villain was not as powerfull as intended. The Chemistry between RDJ and the little kid is very good, I liked it. When Pepper, with the hot-making stuff in her, fell in that fire, I didn't feel anything, because it's just a side character and not so well-established. The trailer was beter than the film itself. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Iron Man 3 is a decent MCU movie. Everything is better than Iron Man 2 (but not as good as the 1st movie). The plot, the story, the characters, the humor. But in the end there is the ultimate sin regarding the Mandarin.

OK, Mandarin is maybe too fantastical for the MCU. So they first mock the character by making Ben Kingsley's character Trevor Slattery (a drug-addicted actor who needs money) pose as the Mandarin, a villain who doesn't actually exist. And then you have the movie's main villain Aldrich Killian admit he's the Mandarin. And later on there is a Marvel short movie where we are informed that the real Mandarin (who hasn't appeared in the MCU again) is angry at Trevor Slattery for impersonating him. Thas some f***ing mess.

Seriously though, the movie is good to watch, but the whole Mandarin mess drags the movie down into mediocrity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Iron Man seems to have peaked at his first film. I cannot even begin to express just how utterly inane this movie is. The plot makes absolutely no sense with the villains making such insane decisions based on loose motives at best. (And where is SHIELD during all of this?) The plan of the Mandarin makes no logical sense, relying on implausible coincidence even at its most logical parts, and he doesn’t even seem to have a motive for anything he does other than getting back at at Tony Stark because he skipped a meeting one time. Cartoonish beyond not just belief, but comprehension.

The acting is definitely passable, as it is in most Marvel movies, but even these great performers can’t save the dialogue that sounds like it was written by the writers of Scooby Doo. Visually, the movie is impressive, but much like the acting, it isn’t anything that stands out from previous Marvel outings.

Most of the Marvel films are essential viewing for fans who desire a deeper understanding of the MCU, but this is one that is a complete insult to an iconic hero and can be skipped without worry.

Consistent inconsistency.

Iron Man 3 starts out alright with a fun scene of Tony Stark trying his new version of the suit. It's entertaining and laid back, but then this film decides to go for a darker tone and it does not work. At all. The main villain is boring and terribly acted and for some reason this other bad guy also gets a surprising amount of screen time, and he was even more atrocious. Those characters had absolutely nothing. I did not care. There's the Mandarin guy who I liked, but he's barely in the film.

This film is a weird mix of action that's sometimes fun and sometimes absolutely ridiculous and headache inducing, scenes of the Mandarin threatening people on TV or Tony Stark doing something actually kind of fun with this one kid character and later Iron Maning. But it's all very inconsistent. I never felt that invested in anything because the quality of the scenes was so unstable. Some scenes were fun and looked good, and some scenes especially in the end looked absolutely awful.

The characters are also inconsistent. Tony Stark is cool, Jarvis is funny and War Machine was alright. But then there's Pepper who's just a bait for the whole movie and the kid character Harley who ends up being somewhat pointless even though he and Tony Stark together was fun to watch. And the villain, like mentioned earlier, was some serious drivel.

This thing is so inconsistent. There's fun stuff every now and then but it's always followed by something stupid.

Iron Man 3 is the end of the Iron Man trilogy and it was quite good but lacks in some areas. The villain was different this time around, I liked it but they kind off messed up with The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). Also the changes in mood when Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) sort off dies was a bit interruptive: Pepper sort off dies and not a minute after that there is a joke was implemented in the scene. But it does deal very well with the effects of PTSD that Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) has after the battle of New York. Overall it's a pretty ok movie and a good entry in the MCU.

Among the core fanbase, it was primarily because of a turn of events that they felt had betrayed what certain characters stood for. Personally, I think this is a great movie. Shane Black writes and directs here, and it certainly feels more like one of his films than a "Marvel movie." In that regard, it is a bit of an outlier in the MCU, but it also adds something fresh to the franchise, which Iron Man 2 failed to do.

What I find so fascinating about the film, is not only how well the twist works in my eyes, but how it feeds into Tony Stark's character and the themes that surround him. The movie is about wearing masks. It's about taking on a persona bigger than how you perceive yourself to make up for your shortcomings. It's about deciding if you really need those masks to live up to your full potential.

Because of this, I love Iron Man 3. It's clever, stylish, exciting, and a whole lot smarter than most people give it credit for. I can understand where some elements might not work for fans, but now that a few years have gone by, I recommend giving it another chance. I think you might find some things to appreciate that you hadn't noticed before.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “Iron Man 3” is my most hated superhero movie. This big-budget joke failed on every level. First of all, this wasn’t made for Marvel fans, it was made by Shane Black, for Shane Black. Mr. Black took everything fans loved about the Iron Man franchise and threw them out the window. Even AC/DC and Black Sabbath got the boot, in favor of Christmas music (?). A new director doing his own thing with a franchise can sometimes work, with Logan being a great example, but this was a poor attempt to try and stand out. Let’s get right into the twist with The Mandarin. Iron Man’s greatest villain from the comics is reduced to a joke. He’s an actor playing a villain, and we’re all supposed to laugh, but it’s insulting. No other Marvel movie has done this since. A short film called “All Hail the King” was made to retcon this, but it was too late, the damage had been done. How could Marvel Studios have allowed this to happen? Iron Patriot was a major letdown as well, he doesn’t get to do anything! He flies towards an enemy hideout, and you expect a great action sequence, but then it’s a fake-out. Shane Black loves surprises that disappoint. Now let’s talk about the title character. In “The Avengers”, Steve Rogers tells Tony that he’s nothing without his suit, so he spends most of this movie proving Cap wrong, which is just boring. One scene has him make an explosive out of a Christmas ornament. Are you kidding me?! Where’s the superhero stuff?! When you go to an Iron Man film, you pay money to see Tony Stark in his suit, but he’s hardly in it at all. The suit he does wear comes to him in pieces, which ends up being problematic, but he has so many better suits anyway, so sticking with that model makes no sense. What also doesn’t make sense is telling a terrorist group where he lives, then doing nothing to prepare for an attack. So Tony spends most of his time fighting fire-breathing people who all wear flame-resistant clothes with an annoying child sidekick and a suit that doesn’t work right… when he has an army of Iron Man suits that can be used at any time. Tony destroys those extremely helpful suits, by the way, just to give the audience a firework spectacle. Hooray??? Oh, and Pepper Potts fights the lame real villain, because we all wanted to see that, of course. The only shred of a good idea I could find was giving Tony PTSD from his near-death experience in “The Avengers”, but this is handled in such an awkward way. He will be reminded of the Battle of New York, usually by a kid for some reason, and have just a mild panic attack. It could have been left out, but I thought it was almost a nice touch. Almost. Acknowledging The Avengers was a mistake, because no one else from that team or S.H.I.E.L.D responds when the President of the United States is captured. Did they really have to have that? Was it so hard to make a film about a villain with power-rings that can do interesting and creative things? Apparently so. In conclusion, this puts a big 3 on a beloved franchise, yet gives you nothing you paid to see the movie for. It’s too boring, has too many poor attempts at humor, and it’s the only piece of the MCU puzzle that doesn’t fit. My name for this movie is “Tony Stark’s Christmas Special”, and I don’t consider it canon. Expand

After a malevolent enemy known as the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) reduces his personal world to rubble, Tony must rely solely on instinct and ingenuity to avenge his losses and protect the people he loves. There's no doubt that Marvel films have gone from simple stories about superheroes to epic adventures with the best writers and actors in Hollywood, but the fact is Iron Man 2 was your typical disappointing sequel. In the third installment of the Iron Man adventure though, the franchise bounces back in a huge way, as we get a story that not only rivals the original, but in my opinion knocks it on it's ass! Iron Man 3 finally answers the question does the suit make the man or does the man make the suit, as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces his toughest enemy yet, the one with the greatest reach, that no one sees coming. With his team and gear in ruins, Stark is left to lamb it in the middle of nowhere, and in a sense start over and find himself all over again. After playing Tony Stark for so long and appearing in just about every film Marvel has made in the last decade, Robert Downey Jr. knows everything there is to know about the character, and it has never been more apparently than it is here. Writers utilize cannon from various comics, graphic novels, previous movies, and really delve deeply into the character like never before. I also like the fact that it wasn't just another film with Stark in his lab full of toys. This time he's stranded in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by new people, having to start from scratch, it gave the whole thing a much more realistic feel to it, and finally there's the villain. While I loved every second of the Avengers, the truth is that the bad guys are aliens and aren't all that realistic. The Mandarin is a really bad guy and he's as real as the rest of us, needless to say I loved it. If you're not the huge fan I am and you only decide to see one of the Iron Man films, I'd choose this one. Rarely do I ever suggest seeing anything but the original, where it all started, but in this case, the effects are better, Downey's knowledge of the character is better, the writing is much better, and it's not the same old tagline you tend to get with introductory films.
