Disappointingly boring. None of the first movies' charm was present. Confusing story with pointless characters. Not enough action and boring special effects. Flat and dull.

After the first 10 minutes of the film it was clear what would happen the rest of the movie. Robert Downey carries this turkey on his back with his fun Stark character. Without him this movie would fail miserably. The sequence where Tony Stark creates a new element was ridiculous, but then the movie is purposely over the top and we know that going into it. Some of the CGI was surprisingly lame, especially the fight between Cheadle and Downey at the house, but most of the CGI was very good. Expand

Tiring and uneventfully, continuing the great Iron Man is predictable and too big, not honoring the expectations created for a sequel that was going to happen.

Iron Man 2 is a satisfactory sequel to a kick-ass comic book movie. It is nothing more than that: satisfactory. Some will call that a good thing, and some will call that a bad thing.

For an action film, there was too much explosions and fighting which substituted for the storylines - I couldn't even hear myself think. Also, I wasn't sure who the villain was, and if he was who I thought he was, he didn't have much depth to his character. Although, I did love Scarlett Johansson, especially when she was kicking everyone's ass, and the fact that what was keeping Stark alive was also killing him, but his portrayal of a dying man was still unconvincing, seeing as he mainly acted arrogant, instead of his versatility of emotions in the previous film. In conclusion, this failed to live up to the promise of what could have been a good sequel. Expand

Iron man 2 is an enjoyable film, none the less, yet has so many flaws that kinda out way the positive, first the Humor is funny, the action and fight scenes look amazing and spectacular and the acting is solid plus it hints at a future Avengers movie, yet despite all this the things that matter to me the most are just Terrible, the characters come of as annoying and i really didn't care what was happening i just wanted to see stuff blow up, the Villain in appalling and is very forgettable, the plot doesn't really have any focus and feels boring and slow at times also whilst Iron man had a really weak final act this one has an awesome astonishing final act yet the rest feels like pointlessness that really served no purpose.

Overall i wasn't really surprised that this sequel didn't live up to the good original film, yet, still i recommend siting down and watching the film cause it is pretty entertain when it wants to be.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Iron Man 2. This entry felt pretty bland and lacked the action and the excitement that the first film have leaving me dissatisfied. I did think that there were some somewhat humorous parts, but overall I just felt that this film just focused too much on stupid plot points that were not at all necessary making this mess known as Iron Man 2. Robert Downy Jr. is a good Iron Man, but if you want him to be in an excellent film, go watch the first Iron Man, The Avengers or Iron Man 3 because those films rocked, this one...not so much. Expand

Unfortunately, the sequel was shockingly underwhelming and dull save for a few good action sequences. Now, two years on,he first Iron Man arrived at cinemas an oddball underdog — it was, lest we forget, a minor-property superhero movie from the director of Zathura, starring Zodiac’s third lead — and blasted out a gold-and-red-plated megahit. Now, two years on, things have changed. Robert Downey Jr. is, for the first time in his 40-year career, a giant star, while Ol’ Shellhead’s steely visage is famous from Peru to Timbuktu. And here comes the sequel, hotly awaited as one of the year’s biggest releases, the second instalment of a metallurgy-based action franchise that’s sure to roll on and on. The Wrath Of Can, if you will.

Like the sequels to Stars Trek and Wars, Iron Man 2 is a tale of revenge. But, unlike those films, this is one of the breeziest blockbusters you’re likely to see. There’s potential for darkness here: when we meet Tony, he’s hiding from everyone the fact he’s being gradually poisoned by his suit; villain Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) is hellbent on avenging perceived injustices done to his father; and Jim Rhodes (Don Cheadle) is considering betraying his pal by teaming with rival arms dealer Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell). But Jon Favreau, it seems, didn’t want to make his Part Two a downer. He’s out to have fun, not only in front of the camera (his chauffeur character, Happy Hogan, has been bumped up from cameo to supporting role, helping out Tony in two action scenes and getting pinned between Scarlett Johansson’s legs) but behind it too, focusing on gyrating cheerleaders and gleaming tech over inner turmoil.

Not that there’s anything wrong with fun, of course, especially in a film about a millionaire with a magic flying suit. It’s just a shame it rarely feels there’s much to threaten Tony Stark’s perfect world. In the movie’s stand-out sequence, Vanko launches an assault on his nemesis at the Monaco Grand Prix, twirling twin whips that fizz with megavoltage electricity. As he effortlessly slices up oncoming cars and advances, cackling, on a suitless and scared Stark, it actually feels like there’s something at stake, that our hero has met his Waterloo. It’s a feeling that’s sadly absent from the rest of the runtime.

Maybe it’s the fact that two of cinema’s most charismatic, weathered actors perform their most dramatic moments with faces cloaked by metal. The climax is a particular disappointment, a beefed-up re-run of the last film’s final reel, in which featureless metal men thump each other until one falls over.

Rourke and Rockwell make satisfying, complementary villains, while Downey Jr. delivers again. Shame this sequel feels inessential, over-busy and a little, well, mechanical. Nothing they can’t put right for Iron Man 3.

At this point, Downey is just having fun, and so do you as far he isn't serious, and when he does the clock unfortunately starts from zero only to tick backwards.

Iron Man 2

Favreau has the perfect comic timing. His revisit on this infamous character is surprisingly funny, passionately dark, yet funny. This underrated chapter of Downey in MCU is diplomatically cinematic and clearly way too mature for its audience. From pulling off a legal subpoena to creating a scenario without any written words (Downey annoyed at the spinning artifact at Paltrow's table), these things aren't encountered in a superhero flick and it is refreshing to see Jon Favreau, the director, extend his hand for the indie cards. But unfortunately, the day is sunny up till the last act arrives. With all the cards shown upfront, the climax is boiled down to a mind-numbing fist fight that has nothing but empty explosive punches in its hand.

The self-elected savior for the people and as Downey agrees once, "Narcissistic" persona, has an engaging and satisfying character development to offer and suffer through- which he still finds it correctly annoying. The new element discovering scene is equivalent to your usual training montage scene or a boy saved personally by his "sung" hero, these cheesy commercial scenes on the other hand often keeps undermining the standard of the film. Scarlett Johansson cloaking on first time, her tight leather suit has probably the dullest choreographed action scene in here, to be honest, at least Favreau packs a humorous punch.

Don Cheadle rebooting Downey's sidekick role is definitely an upgrade along with Gwyneth Paltrow who gets to say much more this time or at least she now can blatantly shut Tony up. Mickey Rourke as the baddie has his best moments with Sam Rockwell who is clearly a juicier antagonist than Rourke. And Robert Downey Jr. philosophizing his tin suit has another careful step taken, no matter how much unhealthy (Donuts) he eats. That very scene where a celebrity at its peak mollifies down to nothing is enough reason to take a peak at this aftermath titled Iron Man 2.

Saddest of all, the most interesting part of the movie was the Avengers subplot, which in the end really has no influence in the realm of the movie. And the discovery of Thor's Hammer at the end of the closing credits reveals all - "Iron Man 2" really isn't much more than a mediary between the (deserved) hype of the first "Iron Man" and the hype of the upcoming "Thor" movie. And this is why no one likes a critic. But seriously, Scarlett Johansson is hot. Expand

II have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the predecessor of this Iron Man franchise. Well it was not exactly cerebral as The Dark Knight (its Summer opponent of 2008), it was fast-paced and indeed had enough action to fill its run time. I wish I could say the same about the sequel, Iron Man 2. What was a franchise known for its action, is now a dull plot-developing movie. The majority of the movie focused on the foolishness of Robert Downey's character. Although well-acted, I wish there was more "Iron Man" than of Tony Stark. The final scene of the movie does go back to it comic-book roots with the duo of War Machine & Iron Man, but it feels empty because there was not much to support it. It is an acceptable and somewhat enjoyable blockbuster, but I could not get over the mindless drama and lack of action. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The whole movie was crap. The movie never had its "climax". All was pre-pre-pre-pre-pre- final scene. All the movie i was thinking "so...whats next... i already saw this at iron-man 1...boring....joke not funny..."

The scene protagonized by Scarlett Johansson sucks... In general i think the writers said :
- "how we can make a better movie"
- "Iron-man 1 was great"
- "oh, i know! what if... if 1 iron-man is great, then we should put 30 iron-men in scene"
- "yeah!! spectacular"
- "but the story?"
- "does it matter? Fill it with anything"

It was an origin story but didn't get overly bogged down in that. I also agreed with a lot of others in that Robert Downey Jr made an excellent Tony Stark, but upon seeing this movie I disagree and believe I was maybe wrong in the first place. I'm a comic book geek and I grew up with Tony Stark as a character. He is someone who wants control in order to do the right thing or what he thinks is the right thing, he is a good man at heart but he is misguided, stubborn and egoistical. What's the problem you ask, is that what Downey is playing? Yes, but a shallow version of that, mixed with playing Robert Downey Jr. He's half acting now at best and it's less Tony Stark is Iron Man and now more Robert Downey Jr is Iron Man. We are told who he is but not really shown any depth other than the motivation of being a former arms dealer and the guilt of that. The racetrack scene is exciting though and well filmed as is the final fight, but the rest of the film is pretty dull. The villain Whip Lash just turning into another Iron Monger when he gets the suit bothered me too. Scarlett Johansson is totally miscast. Although I did like the casting of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. Expand

This film is all suspence and build-up, and at points is a bit boring. But the times when there is action, the film is at it's very best with brilliant special effects, camera-work and exciting sequences, but these moments are short and do not appear in the film enough. The film is disjointed and often trails from it's story, and at points when watching it, I felt that these moments were fairly boring and pointless. The actors did exceptionally well and their characters developed reasonably well. I felt the comedy aspects of this film were overly used and at some points ruined the feel.

Iron Man 2 is disjointed, is overly long and over-uses the comedy aspects, yet when the action appears and the camera-work is it's very best, the film is brilliant. But, overall, the film isn't as good as it should've been; so I give this film a... 72/100!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Iron Man 2, follow-up to the first one is a stepdown for director Jon Favearu. Honestly, I find this movie quite entertaining with eye-popping action scene, like say, the part where Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark faces Mickey Rourke’s Ivan Vanko for the first time, and he needed to be equip, so he dons his armor that was made man-portable in the form of a suitcase. Overall, I also find it that there was no character development or maturing & flawed at times. Iron Man 2 was just a popcorn flick. Expand

This movie has a lot going on, with tons of subplots and villains, and different ideas, but unfortunately it fails at balancing all of these and it creates a mess of a movie. The plot is very complex but super predictable at the same time. The tension between Tony and Whiplash is almost non-existent. We understand whiplashes motivation him, but his solution for this just doesn't make sense. In this movie by pure accident, he destroys a race car with tony in it, and then after losing to Iron Man badly goes to jail and then doesn't do anything until the end of the movie. I feel like more tension is necessary to fix this movie. So much of this movie is just people talking about the plot, and due to that action scenes are pretty rare despite the fact that the movie has multiple antagonists. I don't personally like this movie it ain't the worst superhero movie out there, but it's one of the weakest in the MCU. 4.25/10 Expand

The film loses much of the finesse that the first one had, and manages to squander Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke. Whiplash shouldn’t have been this movie’s villain; it would’ve been more entertaining to watch Tony spend two hours fighting the government for control over his tech, and the writers would probably still have found some way to get Natasha into the story. At least that way it would’ve made more sense as a sequel to Iron Man. The big actors, both new and familiar faces, do their best in their roles, and some of the fights are entertaining to watch, but all of that isn’t enough to keep this sequel afloat. Overall Iron Man 2 tries to add to and build on the MCU but succeeds more in taking away from it. Expand

I dare anyone out there, including the script writers, to tell me what the point of the movie was. There are some dorky references to other super heroes, some things that seem like inside jokes to the geeks that think their comics are "good source material." The hero doesn't risk anything, nothing is lost, he's never really threatened by the villains, every problem was resolved easily and required no cleverness. SPOILER: Building a particle accelerator in your basement and creating a new element to fix his heart device is stupid - it's not even a level that Star Trek writers would sink to. Sam Jackson's side plot was distracting and pointless. The jokes were L-A-M-E...like tongue-in-cheek 1960's Batman lame. The only thing I can say good about Iron Man 2 is that Downy Jr. and Rourke are good at what they do. It's a real shame since the first one had some nice moments to it, the film just stays within the constraints of those people who would be satisfied with classifying every no-brain-required movie as "hey, it's just entertainment". Once again it could have more than the sum of its highly expensive parts and give us something other than by-the-book action sequence after sequence. Stark is pretty much the same except that now he has a bit of angst, but don't worry that's quickly solved by some BS that the writers threw in to wrap things up quite nicely. Nothing has importance or impact, and I was just waiting for the happy ending that inevitably followed. The only glimmer of light in the whole movie was Mickey Rourkes and Sam Rockwells performance. Let's end these superhero movies while we still have some diginity...or take a freakin leap of faith and someone start writing better ones instead. Expand

What's good? The action scenes are okay (especially the Monaco scene), as is the overall plot, and the same cast appear on point and excellent again.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE: This is a genuinely poor film on so many levels. The first act is forgettable and only really serves to logistically set up seeds for the rest of the movie. The second? You get to see Iron Man protrayed in an oddly comical and horribble way, it actually makes you angry... Act 3? A long, dull action scene unfolds with a distinct lack of humour where it's needed, plus a distinct lack of Terrence Howard. Really Marvel, you should have taken the time to get this one right.
VERDICT: A completely soleless and dull sequel to the fantastic 'Iron Man,' the second film does little to impress. Shame - the trailers looked rather promising.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film was kind of a rehash of the first one with a few differences peppered in there. It featured yet another plot where a prisoner had to build weapons under heavy surveillance and was allowed to build something entirely different than what they asked him to build, which leads to Iron Man suits being built and chaos to ensue. Yawn. There are many suspensions of disbelief. How could Rhodey survive being inside a suit that was controlled by an external operator? Imagine your limbs and neck being jerked around in every which way without knowing which way they are going to go. Unless his superpower is being as limp as a rag doll, that would probably end with him looking like a car crash victim. This film didn't really bring any character development to the characters. They had to give Tony yet another dumb health-ailment related to his little heart reactor because I guess one wasn't enough. Pepper has the same frustrated relationship with Tony and then quits again at the end. And they finally stop being awkward and kiss, which doesn't even feel that exciting because their relationship is arguably not at all romantic and unrelatable. This movie is what Back to the Future 2 is to Back to the Future 1. Same script, different setting, a few tweaks to make it feel like something new. Marvel clearly did not feel like straying far from the formula with this film. Unless you're easy to entertain or a hardcore Marvel fanboy this film doesn't have much to offer. The race track action scene was the highlight of the film for this non-MCU fan. The other action scenes felt unnecessary (the party one) or unoriginal (the chaotic ending where despite all the chaos no civilian is ever harmed). Meh. When Iron Man needs a new element that doesn't even exist to power his suit, he just orders some crap in the mail and can magically create it in a few minutes based on some encrypted plans left by his father with no explanation of how his father discovered a new element. He even says "that was easy" in the movie after creating it, as if joking about it makes up for the lazy writing. This film was the worst of the MCU to me so far (watching in release order for the first time in preparation for Endgame). Here's hoping it's upward from here. Expand

The MCU: we create mediocre movies with a comedic edge and "critics" simply love it. Expand

WRONG. If Marvel is going to be a bunch of biased elitists and give the same character TWO solo movies before the first Avengers film (which NO OTHER character in the MCU got), then they could at least try to make it enjoyable. Alas, IM 2 was a boring, inconsistent, cliche, bland film that I literally almost fell asleep in the middle of. If you are planning on doing an MCU marathon and watching all of its movies, make sure to skip this one for your own good and happiness. Thumbs down Marvel. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a let down, I thought the first movie was pretty good (except for the fact that Iron man gets his %$# kicked by the bad guy and then defeats him without the need of his iron man powers!). The action scenes were boiler plate stuff, nothing special, the final battle was short and lame, and Downy's character was just plain annoying throughout the movie, and yes, once again Iron Man could not beat the bad guy with his Iron Man suit, he needs help this time around. Glad I waited to rent it! Expand

Just awful. RDjr's and Don Cheadle's talents are utterly wasted on this exercise in big budget Hollywood garbage. Gwynth Paltrow has no talent, so she's well within her element here. The writing is so uninspired, and the BIG part Jon Favreau plays is frankly lame, and not a little self serving. Where were the editors on this movie too, because it has massive balance problems, and endless filler scenes? This was no doubt a bridging movie to get us into the much vaunted trilogy territory. If there is an I.M.3, and it seems impossible there won't be, you can count me out.

Downey did an awful job. The CGI was horrid. And the plot was as half thought out as most tweets.
