They all stand on their own and are unique in their own way, and this one may be the most unique of them all. Everyone knows the reviews that the movie got and I feel it is well deserved and a worthy conclusion to the franchise. To all the "hardcore" fans who have hated every single HP movie: You should learn what the word "adaption" means and stop embarrassing other HP fans with all the complaining. If you hated the first 7 movies, what did you think would change? Do you know what the definition of insanity is? Great movie, great franchise, and a series that saved the best for last. Expand

Even tho I already knew what will happen in the movie (since I read all the books), it was still enjoyable to watch. It's hard to believe that there won't be anymore movies. Everything that we were expecting to be in part 2 was there. It perfectly follows part 1. I was impressed by the dramatic ambiance. Sometimes, there were these long silence moments, which was perfect. You can easily get captivated by the story, like all the other movies and books. But the phenomenon and the intensity going one set a mark higher from all the other ones, because of this last battle, to finally defeat Voldemort. I'm glad that I had the chance to read the books and to watch some of the movies. Hope to see more from the actors (Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson) in the future. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought it was excellent. I understand that details were left out. Necessary details, but they obviously didn't have time for them. I mean really, I didn't want to wait for a part 3 or go to a 3 hour movie. I don't know why it just lacked the air of a Harry Potter movie. The funny moments really only brought me chuckles. But I attribute it to the fact that the whole time I was dreading the end credits from rolling, thus killing my childhood forever. Who knows. Maybe my second go around will be a better experience. But it was the best of the series. EASILY. The acting was so powerful from the entire cast, the images beautiful, the effects masterfully done, the scenes played out so that it gave the ending justice. Alan Rickman gave a bone chillingly awesome performance as Professor Snape in the Pensive scene. Ron brought me to tears when Fred died...the whole cast played their roles beautifully...

The whole thing makes me want to read all 7 books, and then after I finish I feel like watching the movies again.

It's certainly a step up in terms of filmmaking from Part 1 to Part 2. However, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has no sense for ambition. There's no risk for success. David Yates just gives us a very safe, but well-made 2nd part and respectfully final chapter to the Harry Potter franchise. I just didn't feel the emotion in the end. The tone an the visual all seems much more stirring and captivating. The story, especially, offers an eye full. Part 2 offers unexpectedly deep, perspective-altering and jaw-dropping surprises that'll throw you for a whirlwind of tears and sensible realization. Highly gripping, sentimental, and staggering levels of entertainment is brought to the big screen, and it's irresistible. Yet, the movie disappointingly doesn't go beyond it's comfort zone for success to achieve something spectacular. It just satisfies. The ending, as it did follow the book, is lazily executed and mistakingly ignores the small, reoccuring and culturally mirculous elements evident in each of the previous 6 films' conclusions. Instead Yates justified his ending on the book's. His job is to satisfy the books needs, but also the film's needs and especially in that area of delivery. As a conclusion it needs to reminisce, bring full circle, and revisit the visual elements of the previous films or else those elements meant nothing in developing any form of matter in the story visually, since they are there for the sole purpose to give the Potter universe it's final scene signature. It's how you bring together and conclude a series of films in a complete manner. But David decides to ignore those things and make the ending just fine. But for the biggest, grandest, and most successful movie franchise of all time (despite Star Wars), it didn't do it justice.

Altogether, this is a very enjoyable Harry Potter movie. A fun, emotional, and magical ride right until the end. Highly entertaining with an epic score, a breathtaking climax in the middle of the film, and a soul-shivering vision. The two parts combine the best Harry Potter film to date, but separately as they are, they are individual PARTS of a large movie, but still individual movies, and need to be treated like that. By themselves there are standard Potter movies with one of the most unique instalments (Part 1). Part 2 is striving for, and at times thinks it's achieving, greatness. In the thick of things, it truthfully reaches wonders. But in it's ultimate delivery, it plays it extremely safe and in hindsight, it only did what the book asked. It didn't take the material and visualize it on an ambitious level. It may feel, look, and appear so and it does in the movies high points. But still that's what the book asked it to do. It plays it safe, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's still good. But applaud Rowling for her story and only nod at Yates' vision. Be entertained, but don't expect wonder.

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore book purist, but I would definitely call myself somewhat of a purist. I'm all for change in the films as long as it makes sense and it works. For Yates' three other films in the series (Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows Part 1) I felt he made lots of changes from the books that were not needed and, well, ruined the films for me (Phoenix, Prince and Part 1 are my least favourite Potter films). It's odd, then, for me to still have hope for Part 2, when the last Potter film I enjoyed came out almost 6 years ago. But, alas, I was finally impressed. Part 2 is truly a wonderful film and a fantastic end to the series. The changes made either made sense to me, or were too small for me to worry about. The acting was top-notch. All characters who have always been in the films, though mostly in the background, received their "moment" here and many scenes garnered lots of whoops and applause from the audience. The whole battle was well-made, and this movie really made a fan like me proud to have stuck with the series for so long. However, there are some complaints I have. The movie is called "Harry Potter and the DEATHLY HALLOWS Part 2" yet the significance of the Deathly Hallows aren't given. In fact, it's never discussed that Harry's invisibility cloak is one of the Hallows! There is a little chat about the Hallows in the beginning of the film, and then they are never talked about again. There are also the "emotional" scenes. The main scenes in this story that are supposed to be sad are, without spoiling too much, the revealing of several characters' deaths, a look back at a certain character's memories, and a scene in the forest afterwards. Though this scenes were well done in the movie, they didn't have me close to tears like they did in the books. This is really the biggest problem I had; the movie didn't feel too emotional or touching. I was expecting my eyes to at LEAST get a little teary, but they never did. Another scene, in which a certain mother calls another character a very naughty word, felt rushed, which is truly a shame as it was one of the most hyped up scenes. Overall, however, I was impressed and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It truly is the first Harry Potter movie since Goblet of Fire that left me quite happy. I will forever miss this series and will miss waiting and getting all excited for a new book and, now, a new movie. JK Rowling and the cast and crew of the movies have truly given me a wonderful childhood and a marvelous 10 years. Thank you. Expand

As the closing chapter, the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is unmissable yet as a standalone film, it is also possibly the weakest in the series. There are certainly some highlights, including the biggest tearjerker of the series, but too many major incidents are covered in too little time. Oh wow... This major character just died... But no time to register that properly because we've got to move onto another battle scene. This leads Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 to feel a bit rushed and also somewhat lacking in characterization. Expand

Well, not a freak for real, but more or less this. The final is epic, and the characters are developed right to them top... maybe I still can say Harry is not well enough played by Dan Radcliffe but it still good and he improved a lot. Great scenes from Alan Rickman (one of the best in my opinion). Deep and tender, even sad story from him, of course it comes from Rowling. But still good. Also the battles, every each and single little one is epic, and shows what each wizard is capable to do for real. You have not to think anymore, now you have the proves. Maggie Smith, epic too. TOO EPIC, the best of the best! Expand

No other live-action movie I've seen so far has come close to the level of epic coolness that I have seen in this movie, and from the looks of things, it appears very doubtful that there will be any live-action movie coming out in 2011 that could possibly come anywhere close to the level of epic coolness I have seen in this movie. The movie adaptations of the fantastic book series have been very faithful towards preserving the integrity originally written by J.K Rowling, and this movie brings a satisfying conclusion to what began nearly a full decade ago in 2001. It has been entertaining to see both the cast and characters change with every new adventure that took place, and even though this movie brings a close to the magical saga of Hogwarts, I was very satisfied with all of the action that took place on-screen, and I feel elated to have seen the entire movie saga all the way through. This movie is destined to join the ranks of movies like "The Wizard of Oz, The Grapes of Wrath, Casablanca, Pinnochio, Alice In Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, The Diary of Anne Frank, Charlotte's Web," and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy as superb movie adaptations of popular books. This is the movie to see in the year of 2011! Enough said, true believers! Expand

My only wish for this film was that it did justice to the end of the book, which was a truly powerful and emotional experience. Did it? Well, sort of. A lot of it impressed me: It starts very strongly, deliberately slow to build toward the climactic battle, those early scenes are well written and acted, and watching Bellatrix-Hermione was a treat. But from then I found it hard not to be distracted by the choices the film-makers had made; powerful moments from the book don't seem to have been realised as well in the film. There are a few examples of this but the biggest is Voldemort's eventual defeat; the most important scene in the entire series, and he's gone, with a whimper, not a bang. Carrying the film through are two brilliant performances from Daniel Radcliffe (easily the best he's been) and Ralph Fiennes, this is their film. So much so, that all the other characters feel a bit pushed to the side; subplots with Ron and Hermione, with Luna, Neville, Draco feel rushed and unimportant. However, the films strength lies in its share of emotional moments, and all the big ones are well realised on-screen; I was a blubbering mess. This is still an excellent film, it looks amazing and is really well acted and mostly well scripted. It was always going to be difficult to farewell the series adequately, and they've done it quite well. Expand

And the last film that not only meets the demand in all areas, it also goes further. David Yates, being director for the fourth time in the saga, delivers to the public, fan or not, an admirable quality of outcome after having led the work with care in the previous films he directed. Proves to be a director of intelligent vision, placing each element in its quantity and the right times. In Part 1, there is a further development in the drama of the characters and their internal conflicts, and the plot to prepare the key to the end, but without having even a little in the moments of action. Now in Part 2, the fastest pace exciting and gives a greater focus to physical conflicts that the previous film, dramatic but also the emphasis needed to excite the viewer. In the plot, Voldemort got the Saille wand in order to become invincible. However, it gets weaker every piece of his soul that is destroyed by the protagonists. With his army of Death Eaters, he initiates an attack on Hogwarts, to prevent them and are able to destroy the last Horcrux. Harry, knowing his anger, struggles to find and destroy them in time, and finally have the final showdown with his nemesis. With the battle taking place in school, Yates once again follows the right, not making a final showdown full of explosions in an action whose purpose is just the visual impact, but an epic battle that although, as is the thrill of the moment truly is: a sad and gloomy. The soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat, who repeats the good work of the previous film, highlights this issue. In the technical issues, the film is not anything to duty. On the contrary. The treatment of visual effects, the aforementioned soundtrack, photography of Eduardo Serra, who also repeats his job well, the beautiful art direction and makeup too, providing a great result to the elves, and also in the epilogue, making a characterization of compelling characters. All this in a high standard of quality. The performances don't deserve any least attention. The saga has always been privileged to have an amazing cast, and now it's all about the movie where they are in the spotlight. Daniel Radcliffe has his best time and leads admirably. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are also more than worthy of recognition. Matthew Lewis has a good time favored by a more mature Neville. Alan Rickman, but doesn't appear too long, the scene offers a spectacle of the memories of his character. Ralph Fiennes Voldemort embodies a violent rage and consumed by fear. Helena Bonham Carter is also present as Bellatrix Lestrange insane, having featured in the comic scene of the invasion of Gringotts Bank. Also noteworthy is the actress Maggie Smith, with her surprising role of Professor Minerva McGonnagall, leading the defense of Hogwarts. It is gratifying to see the set of all such work carried out with competence resulting in something so admirable, that perhaps only small by not giving proper emotion in some of the killings, where beloved characters go, and also to explain some details left out that possibly confused a bit by those who didn't read the books. That won't be very harmful, but care about those details could be higher. However, the successes speak much louder, but contribute to the deserved outcome of this phenomenon that marked the many and surely will continue checking, because even with the sad farewell, the saga is not dead, nor die in the hearts and memories of thousands. What a ride it has been growing up with the movies, starting when I was 6 and ending as I am 15. When I hadn't seen the movie, I couldn't possible have imagined a childhood with Harry Potter, and now, 10 years later I cannot imagine what it would have been like without him. I'd like to thank everyone, who helped every HP book come to life, EVERYONE! Also, don't think I'm forgetting Jane K. Rowling - the person responsible for this epic saga's creating. I am forever grateful to her for that. I give this movie 10 points, without doubt, but with also great sadness about the saga coming to an end. I understand it had to have ended some time, but still, I am pretty emotional. Like I did a marathon of 7 HP movies before going to the cinema to watch DH2, I would like to to in the future. I suggest you do the same :). Good luck to everyone in their future endeavours, whom I also thanked, and I will most certainly miss the characters! Expand

It's a movie: certain things in books don't transcribe to movies as well, and the movie makers have their own creativity they want their art recognized as well.

With that being said, I loved this movie from beginning to end and by end I mean END. I went to the 3D one which was mind blowing I recommend spending the extra money to 3D it up! I had goosebumps throughout and had tears streaming down my face for at least 15 minutes. the CGI in HP7p2 was practically flawless, the acting was spot-on, there weren't many differences from the book, and the things that were different made sense to me because a movie portrays emotion in a different way than books do. I loved this movie so much that I am actually writing my first review on metacritic to express how good it was, which is saying alot 'cause I'm a lazy one! If you've seen only one of the movies or if you've read the books, listened to the audio books and seen all the movie or if you're just a movie fan: you NEED to see this! It's got it all: action/adventure, romance, happiness, sadness, realizations, a dragon and of course, the biggest thing you need from the last movie in a saga, a stunning and complete conclusion. In summary, if you only see one movie in theaters this summer Hp7p2 is the one and only choice for you. Enjoy!

I picks up right from where the first one left off, and the action starts right away. There is a point in the movie where everything is pretty much summed up from most of the films (everything significant anyway) And your awaiting the magnificent ending and it sure did deliver. The bad thing about this film is the fact that it ended. Its sad that there wont be anymore of these films, but your still happy that all is right in the wizarding world. Even if seeing a harry potter film was a bargain sometimes because of not knowing how good its going to be. Its nice to see that they finished off this series with a huge bang. I have not read the books, but I have seen all of the HP movies - this was by far the most action-packed installation of them all. Deathly Hallows, 2 succeeds because the pace is quickened - we're down to the end game, and Voldemort must be reckoned with, and eventually vanquished. Getting to the end is wicked fun, and the director rushes us headlong into the action without much ado. I must admit that upon seeing the movie a second time, plot development takes a back-seat to the action scenes, but who really cares? When you get right down to it, all we want to see is Harry and Tom facing one another with wands in a duel to the death - and we are not disappointed in this respect. There are some surprising face-offs between villains and heroes in the final film, and they are worth seeing more than once. The epilogue is touching, although a bit trite - see this movie on the big screen, if you can!

Viewing it a second time I realized how taut the script for this final installment was. The screenplay for this last vision is very tight and well written. The effects are outstanding. After many years of Harry Potter I have a few complaints and one is turning Emma Watson into this whiney frump girl who seems to be on the verge of hopelessness like she popped a pill every morning. Radcliffe has certainly matured and grown into this role. The Producers were lucky to find him and lucky he was perfect for Harry. The script is all right, but with too many unnecessary dramatic pauses, but the acting is pretty good. (At least as good as you can get with the characters being played) There is a lot more action this time around, however the final duel could have been a bit more spectacular while still staying true to the book. Those who easily cry should beware, as there are two particularly sad parts that could bring tears to your eyes. (I myself shed a single tear, and i am not known to cry during a movie) The action sequences are very well done, and the animation is spectacular. The special effects are great, and the movie really redeems itself for the lousy first half. It's good enough to see even if you read the book, but don't go and buy it for $30 on DVD. I give it an 8.5/10 Expand

This is easily one of the most satisfying films of the franchise and the strongest as well. As always, IMAX does great justice to this film, though the 3D was underwhelming. There are strong performances here. The film has great pace and a lot going on, but most of it works. However, there are large holes throughout the film that demands the audience to give the benefit of doubt. I only bring these up because I, along with my fellow cohorts, were engaged in confounding discussion well after viewing the film, and none of us could come up with definitive answers. Expand

Ahem....) Director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves do exactly what they have done with previous installments; which is to move the film along as fast as possible whilst using as little expositional dialogue as possible and simultaneously dumping anything from the books that had any real character deepening qualities, ( Dumbledores dark past is completely sidestepped) or emotional clout, and leaving it cruelly flapping on the cutting room floor like a confused, suffocating trout. The battle of Hogwarts looks, well... pretty crappy, with Yates attempting to ape shots from Lord of the Rings and failing, despite having a much bigger budget to work with.Oi! SAY WHAT?! Uh Huh! No **** Anyway, I can't be bothered writing anymore about this movie as it doesn't deserve it. Piss off Harry Potter, seriously. Yeah okay the books are fun and the movies are WHATEVER but does this crap really deserve to be the overwhelming super fart franchise it has become? NO! So much is better than this: looking at a wall for example, certainly a more wholesome experience than being forced to sit through either of the first two movies. Scratching your eye, easily as much fun as watching Harry Potter 5, fa show! Funny story: I actually farted earlier and it reminded me of Daniel Radcliffe's acting when R-Pattz died in HP Sause 4, what a stinkyness that was, jeez, in fact pretty much anytime Radcliffe had to really emote in a scene he failed miserably, though he did get less crap, but in the end he was still crap. and he knows it. The other two actor-children-people-things? Crap. Oh! Pushing a granny down the stairs, that's probably more fun than all the movies combined actually, and that's free to do, and only takes a second, AND you don't have to sit through twenty odd hours of crappy child actors pretending to actually like the crappy movie they're acting in yet all the while being glad they are who they are, not just because they're richer than most of us, but because they don't have to be us and not be in Harry Potter like we aren't, and have to pretend to everyone else that they like the movies everyone else likes such as Harry Potter, which thay actually think is only okay and not the second coming and would probably rather go down to the park and do an outdoor activity if you asked them, or even just do something else, like say....waterboarding themselves! Transformers is crap too, and loads of other stuff and whichever the latest tight wearing super ninny movie about a dude who got some powers through no fault of his own but was then able to pooh through peoples minds and travel back in time and become his own anus or his planet would explode or whatever even though he a bit socially awkward cause of their differences just like all of us are, awww, is. IRON CAPTAIN THOR FARTS 4: The secrets of the Teenage Mutant Ninja prostitutes! Its all the same! HuuuuuP! I actually am a Harry Potter fan, believe it or not, but I think this previous 'stream of consciousness' shows just how apathetic I was towards this movie and it got me thinking about whether artistic movie tastes are perhaps cyclical and.....well I don't know, originality might become fashionable again, probably not though so.... Johnny Depp I'm seriously annoyed at you too, make a good movie would ya?!.....aw WHATEVER Harry GO AWAY!!! Pirates of the Harry Potter and the Spiderman of the neverending rehash of easily digestible multiplex gruel, with extra self delusion! Aye why not! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly people, stop comparing it to the books as if thats all that matters. First of all, its meant to be an adaptation, not a full copy, and second of all, the movie did actually have more of the book in it than any other Harry Potter movie to date, so please stop complaining. But I did think this movie was very good, almost better than the book in my opinion, mainly because I did not enjoy the 7th book that much. But the movie added a lot too the whole entire Hogwarts invasion sequence, and it made it much more action packed and much less of the 'going to class' act that has been there since the first movie. I thought that the acting was great, but not exactly very noticeable, but the real standout is the way the story was expanded. In truth, not much happens in the second half of the 7th book compared to the other novels, but the director was able to include many scenes that were not from the novel to make the movie MUCH longer. The battle between Voldemort and Harry at the end felt extremely epic, even though it felt a bit strange that Harry even stood a chance against him (17 year old boy deflecting spells from the greatest wizard of all time?). Overall, i felt that the movie was very good, and while it was not quite as good as the Prisoner of Azkhaban, i felt it deserved the 9/10 i give it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Long had I awaited the Deathly hallows: Part 2, and after watching it all it just kept blowing my mind even long after the credits started rolling. Great action, beautiful special effects and watching the plot unfold made me lose no eye contact with the theater screen. Yet I felt something was amiss, there was missing something, this movie actually lacked emotion! The action is fluid and exciting making perfect usage of the 3D dimension and simply seeing this great movie through to the end was really satisfying, but never the less I could just not stop thinking about the book I read years ago, which impressed me way more then this film. The sole reason of this is because I found this movie to lack emotion, because the entire movie focuses way to much on Harry, which is a shame because there is just so much more going on involving hes friends and enemies. Daniel Radcliffe is just to many times on screen and to long which leaves Hermione, Ron, Fred, George, Molly, Arthur, Bellatrix and everyone else somewhat in the dark. Vendettas being fought out to the death between aurors and death eaters, Voldemort battling hes former teachers and mentor, Slytherin rejoining the great battle, Harry's final words against Voldemort, asking him to try to feel sorrow and regret and much much more like these events are left out in this movie. This movie lacks the emotional punch the book had which is why I rated this movie a 7 out of 10. It is a great movie, a movie which will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, but afterwards I simply could not help it but to feel disappointed because of how it all story wise turned out. Cant ask for a better ending to such a successful and popular franchise. The entire film was one big action scene and it was done absolutely perfectly. Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2 deserves all the high praise it gets. The acting especially by Daniel Radcliffe and the man who plays Voldemort was phenomenal. I was more than pleased with this movie. I honestly saw no flaws and i truly believe that this final entry into the Harry Potter franchise deserves a best picture nomination at the 2012 Academy Awards. The only problem i had with this movie is the slight depression that follows once the credits begin to role because the journey is now officially over but their definitely wasnt a better way to end off such an exciting and adventurous journey. Thank you JK Rowling and to all of the creators of the Harry Potter films for such an amazing adventure. 10/10 without a doubt in my mind Expand

You're either a longtime fan of both the novels and films, eagerly awaiting the epic conclusion to this classic hero's journey tale ...

... or you could not care less about Harry Potter, have no idea why so many people have/are going crazy for it, and in any case would not start watching an eight-film series with the very last one.

Then again, you could be forced to go see it by your friend/significant other/spouse/family.

The good news is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 absolutely deserves that 97% "fresh" rating it has on rottentomatoes right now. Director David Yates (the director of the previous three highly acclaimed films) has succeeded yet again. Harry Potter's adventure reaches its thrilling climax and brings a satisfying end to a story that is beloved worldwide in this film.

From Sorcerer's/Philosopher's stone up to the wonderful Deathly Hallows Part 1. They will find out that the actors really developed through out the years that they have made these movies. You will soon realize that these kids are really great actors.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 is full of depth. It has heart, action, romance, its thrilling and funny. I really have to say this, the acting was top notched; Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The story was gripping and was close to the book than I can remember.

From start to finish, you are literally hooked on what is going to happen next and you really care about these characters. It was probably my first or second time to really feel emotion like this in a movie. I found that I really cared about these characters, and the ending was really satisfying. Everything was really balanced, from special effects up to the emotions. A perfect movie

Bottom line, watch it! This is definitely going to be one of the worth while movies to watch in 2011.

WATCH IT!

HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was fun, enjoyable and an entertaining closure to a long series. Did the film makers need to split the 7th HP book into two movies? Definitely No. but the film makers did pull it off, it wasnt perfect, nor was this the best Harry Potter movie but the film does work, despite some of the drama falling a little flat and for a few unintentional goofy moments. I did enjoy the last Harry Potter movie, and Im glad that the series is now over and we can move on. Expand

The acting as always is superb and I wonder if the Academy will once again ignore the actors in this franchise come awards season, the way they ignored the actors in the Lord of the Rings films. I've been going to the movies for almost 60 years and this is the first time I can remember being in a packed theater that was completely quiet for two hours and ten minutes. Unfortunately, this film is another 3D presentation that didn't need the 3D effects. This movie is good enough in 2D to rank as one of the greatest films of all time. As a Harry Potter fan, the ''epic'' ending gives me a sour taste and leaves me disappointed. The first part was awful, incredibly bad, almost boring. This one gives me the character development I've been hoping for, but unfortunately, as a whole, after reading the books, I wonder if the writer has ever read the seventh book. It is just so unsatisfying, the action happens just too fast and everything smart disappears. Just a bunch of actions that just don't link. Anyway, the most disappointing is the Hogwarts battle. That was truly a failure. Apart from the scene in the chamber of secrets, I find everything just so unimpressive. I think this, the first part and the sixth movie might be the worst in the series. I hate to make comparisons, but I wonder how this movie would have looked like directed by the one who directed Prisoner Of Azkaban (that was truly the best movie in the series for me). Despite my strong dislike, the lead actors were amazing. Expand

It acts well as the climatic third act to the slow-burning, exposition-filled set up, of the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Its a well paced, action packed adventure with dazzling visual effects (possibly the best visual effects of all the harry potter films) and a deft sound mix. It also excels artistically with the usual good performance from all our stars and a brisk screenplay that narrates the bombastic plotline with relative ease. Being the finale, it would have been pleasing if a bit more screen time was given to many of our secondary characters and most of all, a lengthier epilogue would have given it a better conclusion. This definitely won't go down as a classic, but it does well at wrapping up a memorable collection films. Expand

Let me start by saying this film was perfect in nearly every way, and though some things I say here may imply that I was disappointed in this movie, let me assure you that that is not the case.
Now then. This film departs significantly from the book. If you're looking for a scene-for-scene, event-for-event recreation of the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I urge you to reconsider that expectation before going to see this film ADAPTATION of the wonderful book. I stress adaptation because this film was not intended to be an exact recreation of the book; in fact, it was intended to take the plot of the book, and the general events, and portray them in its own way. And it does that fantastically. Each actor matured admirably throughout the series, and all of them have reached what I believe to be their acting peak. None will ever be able to top what they have done here. Director David Yates also performs magnificently, with sweeping battle shots and some good scenes of suspense throughout the hectic film. However, he also chose to exclude the information of Albus Dumbledore's family and younger life. Therein lies my only complaint, though it is a major one.
In conclusion, see this film. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the movie, which I saw in 3D on an IMAX screen. Very exhilarating. Don't be put off because it isn't exactly like the book. For everything they left out, there's something they left in that actually works better onscreen. For example, the epic battle at Hogwarts by night is so much more exciting in the movie. I was moved at the point where the professors use their wands to cast a protective veil over Hogwarts, and the light show when Voldemort's army attacked it was spectacular. I actually think the cuts were very judicious, and made for a cleaner narrative. Seriously, how would Dumbledore/Grindelwald's backstory have added anything? Better to keep the movies lean than to pad them out to boredom with slavish faithfulness to the text. The only disappointment was the staging of the final confrontation - I wish it had taken place in the Great Hall, under everyone's eyes, as in the book.

Highly recommended.

The plot is easily understandable to those who have not read the book, as the last 202 pages of the deathly hallows is put into 2 hours of film allowing for more depth. The fight scenes are interesting, enough to keep peoples attention. Overall i would give this 8.5 not 10 simply because i have read the books and the film did not give credit to some of the characters. For example Bellatrix Lestrange, she is made into some top deather witch who is a really powerful witch in the books but looks nothing special in the films because all she does is get killed by Molly Weasley. In the book she fights hermionie, ginny and luna all at the same time then molly comes in, they should have done this in the film, it would have been one or two minutes at the most. The same with Voldemort, ok the fight scene between him and Harry is TEN TIMES BETTER than in the book, but Voldemort doesn't look powerful to people who have not read the book, it doesn't show him fighting Kingsley Shacklebolt, Minerva Mcgonagall and Horace Slughorn at the same time then blowing them away with a force explosion when he sees Bellatrix die. Then Harry fights him. This would have been added a max of 5 minutes to the film but would have made it so much better. Should of shown Remus and Tonks dying, and Fred dieng, but it did add things that weren't in the book. Neville on the bridge was interesting and exciting to watch. Overal an 8.5, should of had another 10 minutes to cover what i said. It is the shortest Potter film to date. Expand

Sadly they were not completely met, but that doesn't mean that the movie was bad at all. Visually speaking it's marvellous, and the actions scenes were a treat for the senses, and the plot was woven in such a fashion that was almost always gripping. Sadly, some of the most captivating moments of the book were treated in such a shallow way that didn't really allow the audience to completely identify with the feelings of pain or longing of the characters (such as the scenes of Snape's memories or the conversation at King's Cross or the final battle). Nevertheless, it's a movie well worth watching, and most likely all the people who aren't familiar with the books will find it engaging, and arguably the best of the saga. Expand

I watched it and then re-read the last half of the book (again) and was astounded at how well the movie followed the book. Another popular complaint is that it didn't have enough action. IT HAD THE MOST ACTION OF ANY OF THE MOVIES! IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE! Now, with that put aside, I must admit that some scenes were slightly underwhelming (Harry's conversations with the man from his past and earlier in the movie with that same man's brother). The ending (after the fight is over) is rushed, even though the epilogue is handled well. I also loved the soundtrack, especially the main theme song at the beginning. It was very epic, as was the movie. Expand

Whether or not that pleases you will depend on what you're looking for, but overall the film has the same amazing qualities every single one before it had, and I can't see anybody reasonably giving the film a lower score than 7. There are some truly standout scenes that will push you into tears, even if you've already read the books. I knew these things were coming, but the movie has a way of getting you much more involved. But, as is required of someone who read the books, I am also disappointed that they changed major details and forgot to explain crucial points. It would have been a 10 for me if they stayed true to the book, but we can't have everything. These are adaptions, not recreations. Whiny babies. Expand

I grew up reading and seeing the Harry Potter books and movies and it's sad to see the series come to an end. I would definitely give this movie a 10 because it was a breath-taking and captivating finale to a deep and exciting trilogy. I would give many thumbs up to the actors in this film especially the three main actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, the genius director, David Yates, and of course the author of the trilogy, J.K. Rowling, who is without a doubt one of the most creative and capable authors who ever lived. This trilogy will indeed always be remembered by it's fans and critics. Expand

If it doesn't get nominated for best picture I will boycot the oscars. I feel ashamed in the avid potter readers to hear so many negative reviews as to how it adapted the book. The humourAlthough I haven't read the books, the film was brilliantly constructed. It didn't look so overrated, what with all the advertising and raving on websites and beyond, unlike Avatar, because I knew there was a plot to this movie. The humour was deliciously incorporated as well as the chill of the dark side (although I would have to mention that it was mostly quite dark, so not really like Who Framed Roger Rabbit then) but the movie was meant to be dark because of Voldemort's evil forces so it didn't make it look stupid. It was easy but not predictable to know what was going on, and the fact that the last book was split into 2 films sounded much nicer than squashing it all together. It was very emotional too - I found myself crying in some parts, but I was crying both sadly yet joyfully at the end when they're waving their kids off. A fantastic end to a brilliant series of books (and films) that inspired us all. Expand

The battles shown in this movie are more of the background noise to the story; you see the consequences without really seeing the details. Another 15 minutes and some real focus on this element would have earned a 9 from me. I hope the extended DVD takes care of this shortcoming. Harry Potter's "love" interest completely lacked chemistry. Much of the early chemistry from characters in the movie series also seems missing.

On the plus side, this was certainly entertaining and I will see it again.

The final instalment of the epic series that is Harry Potter does not disappoint. A fantastic cinematic affair, with particularly effective use of special effects, as most of the films in the series have.

The story is the same as the books, with a few deviations for dramatic effect, so if you are not fixated on this precision, it's a great ending to the series. I can appreciate that this may pull on some people's heartstrings, as I have only read the books a couple of times and I felt certain scenes just didn't quite feel right. Some death scenes were a little rushed in my opinion, but grief and death are handled overall with a level of maturity that was satisfying from a film aimed at such a wide audience. The development of the story was very well paced, so that I was enticed by the action whilst being drawn in by a very solid script. The difficulties of revealing the twists at the end of the film was handled very well but was quite linear in conduct, so that a particular scene with Voldemort didn't have as much impact as I would've had from making the 'reveal' a little later.

Although a couple of scenes didn't gel particularly well with me, this is a fantastic film, and a worthy end to such a popular part of modern western culture. As long as you come in prepared for a non-exact interpretation of the books, I have faith that you'll feel the same.

I have read allMore or less every single person who hated this movie and who have commented on it have said something along the lines of "the reviewers who reviewed this movie have never read the books." This line of criticism is so silly. I have read all the books and seen all the movies. I will say this: As with most adaptations, the books are better. But the books are not perfect. Rowling is not Kurt Vonnegut or Ernest Hemingway. She wrote clunky, workmanlike prose and relied unnecessarily on Deux Ex Machinas to drive the plot forward. There were a lot of unimportant, boring plot-lines in the books that the movies, mercifully, spared us of (like the stupid SPEW storyline). Beyond that, it is ridiculous to assume that film critics would review a film based on a series of books would negatively review the movie for divergences from the book. Film narratives and literary narratives are very, very different. Supposed ignorance to the books is irrelevant. What works on a page doesn't always work in a film. For instance, probably the most drastic change from the seventh book to the eighth movie is the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort. A very brief, yet powerful ending in the book is stretched out and elaborated on significantly in the film The reason for this is simple: You simply cannot follow an elaborate, tense, series-long narrative leading up to the final showdown and have it last all of 25 seconds. Probably above all else, for a bunch of book-devotes, you all seem painfully ignorant of Rowling's hands-on approach to making changes. She had final approval. So who do your really hate? Expand

He had a lot to take on and lot to deliver especially with his political television background. The risk however has payed off ever since, and since the beginning of paranoia and war in Phoenix to the combination of incoming dread and light relief in Prince, to the molding of a road movie in DH part One setting the scene for all out war in good vs evil Yates HAS delivered. This film is no different as he searches and contains a tight grip on the plot and action whilst twinning personal character development and authentic special effects to produce a rocket fulled ride of wizards and witches in search of retribution , absolute Power and Justice. Yates's grounding in reality is where the later Potter's find their feet in series but also in British cinema as a whole. His choices to use a pallet of strained colour and a dark looming overcast perfectly captures the situation in the plot and the audiences realization that the legacy of Rowling's Potter is at an end and for most cases the audiences childhood. No true Potter fan can be one hundred percent pleased and so with a sly niggle I must confess a deep regret at the filmmakers choice to not deal with the small matter of supporting characters outcomes so tamely. Especially with How they captured the beautiful Horror in the others through characters such a Sirius Black. And yes they divert from the books in a small way. But this is cinema , this is an adaption and this is absolute Potter at his most moving , thrilling and finest .By God in a word it is simply, Brilliant. Expand
