I wouldn't call myself a hardcore book purist, but I would definitely call myself somewhat of a purist. I'm all for change in the films as long as it makes sense and it works. For Yates' three other films in the series (Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows Part 1) I felt he made lots of changes from the books that were not needed and, well, ruined the films for me (Phoenix, Prince and Part 1 are my least favourite Potter films). It's odd, then, for me to still have hope for Part 2, when the last Potter film I enjoyed came out almost 6 years ago. But, alas, I was finally impressed. Part 2 is truly a wonderful film and a fantastic end to the series. The changes made either made sense to me, or were too small for me to worry about. The acting was top-notch. All characters who have always been in the films, though mostly in the background, received their "moment" here and many scenes garnered lots of whoops and applause from the audience. The whole battle was well-made, and this movie really made a fan like me proud to have stuck with the series for so long. However, there are some complaints I have. The movie is called "Harry Potter and the DEATHLY HALLOWS Part 2" yet the significance of the Deathly Hallows aren't given. In fact, it's never discussed that Harry's invisibility cloak is one of the Hallows! There is a little chat about the Hallows in the beginning of the film, and then they are never talked about again. There are also the "emotional" scenes. The main scenes in this story that are supposed to be sad are, without spoiling too much, the revealing of several characters' deaths, a look back at a certain character's memories, and a scene in the forest afterwards. Though this scenes were well done in the movie, they didn't have me close to tears like they did in the books. This is really the biggest problem I had; the movie didn't feel too emotional or touching. I was expecting my eyes to at LEAST get a little teary, but they never did. Another scene, in which a certain mother calls another character a very naughty word, felt rushed, which is truly a shame as it was one of the most hyped up scenes. Overall, however, I was impressed and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It truly is the first Harry Potter movie since Goblet of Fire that left me quite happy. I will forever miss this series and will miss waiting and getting all excited for a new book and, now, a new movie. JK Rowling and the cast and crew of the movies have truly given me a wonderful childhood and a marvelous 10 years. Thank you. Expand

Well, not a freak for real, but more or less this. The final is epic, and the characters are developed right to them top... maybe I still can say Harry is not well enough played by Dan Radcliffe but it still good and he improved a lot. Great scenes from Alan Rickman (one of the best in my opinion). Deep and tender, even sad story from him, of course it comes from Rowling. But still good. Also the battles, every each and single little one is epic, and shows what each wizard is capable to do for real. You have not to think anymore, now you have the proves. Maggie Smith, epic too. TOO EPIC, the best of the best! Expand

I gave it a 9 only cause I had a hard time hearing what they saying. There were some shockers in the movie as I have never read the books but seen every movie. There were some touching moments and Alan Rickman was scene stealer.

And the last film that not only meets the demand in all areas, it also goes further. David Yates, being director for the fourth time in the saga, delivers to the public, fan or not, an admirable quality of outcome after having led the work with care in the previous films he directed. Proves to be a director of intelligent vision, placing each element in its quantity and the right times. In Part 1, there is a further development in the drama of the characters and their internal conflicts, and the plot to prepare the key to the end, but without having even a little in the moments of action. Now in Part 2, the fastest pace exciting and gives a greater focus to physical conflicts that the previous film, dramatic but also the emphasis needed to excite the viewer. In the plot, Voldemort got the Saille wand in order to become invincible. However, it gets weaker every piece of his soul that is destroyed by the protagonists. With his army of Death Eaters, he initiates an attack on Hogwarts, to prevent them and are able to destroy the last Horcrux. Harry, knowing his anger, struggles to find and destroy them in time, and finally have the final showdown with his nemesis. With the battle taking place in school, Yates once again follows the right, not making a final showdown full of explosions in an action whose purpose is just the visual impact, but an epic battle that although, as is the thrill of the moment truly is: a sad and gloomy. The soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat, who repeats the good work of the previous film, highlights this issue. In the technical issues, the film is not anything to duty. On the contrary. The treatment of visual effects, the aforementioned soundtrack, photography of Eduardo Serra, who also repeats his job well, the beautiful art direction and makeup too, providing a great result to the elves, and also in the epilogue, making a characterization of compelling characters. All this in a high standard of quality. The performances don't deserve any least attention. The saga has always been privileged to have an amazing cast, and now it's all about the movie where they are in the spotlight. Daniel Radcliffe has his best time and leads admirably. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are also more than worthy of recognition. Matthew Lewis has a good time favored by a more mature Neville. Alan Rickman, but doesn't appear too long, the scene offers a spectacle of the memories of his character. Ralph Fiennes Voldemort embodies a violent rage and consumed by fear. Helena Bonham Carter is also present as Bellatrix Lestrange insane, having featured in the comic scene of the invasion of Gringotts Bank. Also noteworthy is the actress Maggie Smith, with her surprising role of Professor Minerva McGonnagall, leading the defense of Hogwarts. It is gratifying to see the set of all such work carried out with competence resulting in something so admirable, that perhaps only small by not giving proper emotion in some of the killings, where beloved characters go, and also to explain some details left out that possibly confused a bit by those who didn't read the books. That won't be very harmful, but care about those details could be higher. However, the successes speak much louder, but contribute to the deserved outcome of this phenomenon that marked the many and surely will continue checking, because even with the sad farewell, the saga is not dead, nor die in the hearts and memories of thousands. I picks up right from where the first one left off, and the action starts right away. There is a point in the movie where everything is pretty much summed up from most of the films (everything significant anyway) And your awaiting the magnificent ending and it sure did deliver. The bad thing about this film is the fact that it ended. Its sad that there wont be anymore of these films, but your still happy that all is right in the wizarding world. Even if seeing a harry potter film was a bargain sometimes because of not knowing how good its going to be. Its nice to see that they finished off this series with a huge bang. I will definitely be seeing this one again, hopefully very soon. Expand

AsThis is what I have been waiting for during the entire series.....duels, showdowns, battles, revenge, action, and dare I say a little blood? This is easily one of the most satisfying films of the franchise and the strongest as well. As always, IMAX does great justice to this film, though the 3D was underwhelming. There are strong performances here. The film has great pace and a lot going on, but most of it works. However, there are large holes throughout the film that demands the audience to give the benefit of doubt. I only bring these up because I, along with my fellow cohorts, were engaged in confounding discussion well after viewing the film, and none of us could come up with definitive answers. Expand

It was actually worth the tenMost people expected the final Harry Potter to be good (imagine the outcry if it wasn't - there would be rioting in the streets...probably). Few, I suspect, realised just how exceptional it would turn out to be. It was actually worth the ten years that film-goers have committed to the series! The film resolves all the dangling plot threads and repays it's viewers patience with interest. Deathly Hallows Part 2, unlike it's predecessor (which had the unenviable task of setting up this finale, and thus, tended to drag) is fluidly told, well acted and is an undeniable visual spectacle. For the first time in the series, Daniel Radcliffe really gets to demonstrate his skill as a mature actor - his performance is restrained, but heartfelt and compelling. The real highlight of the series always has been, and continues to be Alan Rickman's Snape - he gives the performance of his career, made even more emotional once the truth about Snape is revealed. The rest of the cast also hold their own, and there are some nice curtain calls, even if you only see some characters for a fraction of a second (blink and you'll miss Miriam Margolyes and Mark Williams!). The effects are superb, the action extremely creative, the whole thing wonderfully filmed. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be utterly engaged right until the credits role, and Yates brings the saga full circle in a pleasing way (though I'm not a big fan of the prologue). The only real criticisms I've heard of the film thus far are die-hard fans shrieking "but it's not 100% like the book!". No it is not like the book. David Yates wasn't writing a book. He was making a film. The changes he made were for the best, and helped the story flow. You cannot adapt a book page-for-page onto film. The film series and books exist as separate entities for the better. They both offer different pleasures. They do not need to be identical, and it is a great blessing that they're not. The past ten years have flown, and the Harry Potter films have left their mark on the world, just as the books have. Mr Potter, we'll miss you. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly people, stop comparing it to the books as if thats all that matters. First of all, its meant to be an adaptation, not a full copy, and second of all, the movie did actually have more of the book in it than any other Harry Potter movie to date, so please stop complaining. But I did think this movie was very good, almost better than the book in my opinion, mainly because I did not enjoy the 7th book that much. But the movie added a lot too the whole entire Hogwarts invasion sequence, and it made it much more action packed and much less of the 'going to class' act that has been there since the first movie. I thought that the acting was great, but not exactly very noticeable, but the real standout is the way the story was expanded. In truth, not much happens in the second half of the 7th book compared to the other novels, but the director was able to include many scenes that were not from the novel to make the movie MUCH longer. The battle between Voldemort and Harry at the end felt extremely epic, even though it felt a bit strange that Harry even stood a chance against him (17 year old boy deflecting spells from the greatest wizard of all time?). Overall, i felt that the movie was very good, and while it was not quite as good as the Prisoner of Azkhaban, i felt it deserved the 9/10 i give it. Expand

When I say this movie, I mean both parts, as a whole. For the first time in the entire movie series I was completely sucked in from start to finish.

While I know this may make the ones who love the books and deny the movies any right to exist, unless they could somehow match (or top) the books, snicker I'm not sure what to say. My girlfriend seems to have loved it, which is saying a lot. She hated many aspects of the movie series at times such as the entire 6th movie.

I would say, don't miss the chance to see this while it's in the theater. 'tis all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A brilliant end to a brilliant saga.
The Harry Potter phenomenon has become bigger with every movie released. Adding more to the (excuse the cliché) cauldron each year, and this movie was no exception. It is fair to admit that part one was a little bit of a lackluster, and needed a lot more conviction and vitality. It only really had you on the edge of your comfy cinema seat toward the penultimate scene where Dobby tragically dies. However part 2 had a lot more to it, chucking you right in the deep end from the get go, which is to expect when the movie starts half way through a book, nonetheless it still gripped the audience a lot better than the first.

Similarly to the first though, it does drag on a bit a quarter of the way through, with the only thing keeping you interested is the concept, the objective, what you know is coming (which is explained to you at the beginning) the mission to Gringots was a fantastic way for David Yates to grab the audienceâ

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Of course this movie was going to be brilliant, the final instalment of a world famous series of a boy wizard saw the good finally overcome the bad. Seeing the actors growing up onscreen and how their characters evolve over the 7 years at Hogwarts, the series has been a world wide success. And rightly so. Deathly Hallows part 2 certainly lives up to expectations. Fast-paced, funny/emotional/action-packed, visually stunning and the acting seemed better than in previous instalments as well. But it's not without it's problems. The sound seemed to be unusually quiet for an action film, like the Foley artists were taking a long break. The scene with the dragon escaping Gringott's is the best example. There was no urgency to the chaos the dragon was causing. This scene also was over-played. The suspense was over-drawn resulting in knowing when the dragon would burst through the floor of the bank. That would have been a perfect moment to make the audience jump but sadly that did not happen. The music playing over the big fighting scenes also seemed out of place, the sound and the visuals just didn't match. I was expecting something like with the orchestral power and bravery as heard from LOTR but ended up feeling like the power struggle really wasn't that much of a struggle. Some big opportunities were missed during these big battle moments too. Whereas in the books the reader could feel emotion and loss for the characters that inevitably die (Fred, Lupin, Tonks), here the emotional range was contained to a mere side-effect. Viewers who haven't read the books are surely to be confused too. Horcruxes and wand law are explained in a hurried fashion, leaving the viewer feeling a few steps behind on the action. It's not to say the film hasn't got it's good points (I gave it 9/10 after all!). The audience clapped when Mrs Weasley called Bellatrix Lestrange a **** laughed at Filch earnestly sweeping away the ruinous remains of the castle, and cheered for Dame Maggie Smith who finally gets some decent screen time and a little bit of the action as a Professor who gets to unleash her power "I've always wanted to do that!"

However, it is the delectable Alan Rickman who takes the film to a whole new level as Professor Snape. Taking us through his painful back story, how he struggled to hide his feelings for Harry's mother and his turmoil over doing what he had to do to gain the Dark Lord's trust. Real sympathy is earned for this character, the portrayal making Snape more than just a villain but 3D and actually human.

Lastly, not forgetting the kid actors. Sorry young adults....well actually old adults as well - that final scene is quite unnerving. Daniel, Emma and Rupert portray a new maturity whilst also retaining the original essences of their characters. They play off each other really well, both in the light-hearted scenes as well as the dark ones. They make all the wand-waving and running/duck-and-cover scenes look natural and fun and convey the struggles, both emotional and physical, with depth and poignancy, like when Harry meets and talks with all the dead people he has known.

Visually the film is effects laden and stunning, as expected, and in 3D you get to feel even closer to the action. Dialogue is witty, touching, and keeps pace with the action sequences well. The set pieces, particularly Gringott's Bank and Hogwarts, and fighting scenes are awe-inspiring. Harry Potter is one of the franchises made for the big screen and it surely doesn't let you down.

It's during one of the final scenes, after Voldemort is vanquished, Harry, Ron and Hermione stand on a ruined bridge of the castle looking out towards their future, their friendship never looking so tight and content. We can feel relief with them. And that's what the whole of the series has been about. The three of them standing together no matter what, weathering the trials and trubulations of school, teenage years and pure evil. That's hard to come by, even in a world of fantasy. I'm going to miss Hogwarts....it's the end of the Potter era, and what a great ending it was.

Let me start by saying this film was perfect in nearly every way, and though some things I say here may imply that I was disappointed in this movie, let me assure you that that is not the case.
Now then. This film departs significantly from the book. If you're looking for a scene-for-scene, event-for-event recreation of the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I urge you to reconsider that expectation before going to see this film ADAPTATION of the wonderful book. I stress adaptation because this film was not intended to be an exact recreation of the book; in fact, it was intended to take the plot of the book, and the general events, and portray them in its own way. And it does that fantastically. Each actor matured admirably throughout the series, and all of them have reached what I believe to be their acting peak. None will ever be able to top what they have done here. Director David Yates also performs magnificently, with sweeping battle shots and some good scenes of suspense throughout the hectic film. However, he also chose to exclude the information of Albus Dumbledore's family and younger life. Therein lies my only complaint, though it is a major one.
In conclusion, see this film. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Harry potter, the greatest cultural phenomenon of our generation, is now officially over. For me, at least. Everyone who hasn't seen the movie yet still awaits an awe-inspiring finale, in three dimensions even. It's hard to imagine the sheer magnitude that the series has been. 8 movies that all feature a place in the top 25 most succesfull movies. 7 books that have only been outsold by The Holy Bible. Theme parks. Billions of toys, games, candy, action figures, playing cards, all devoured by an army of fans big enough to occupy a continent or two. This thing was bigger than Star Wars, Batman and Lord of the Rings put into a blender. And they couldn't have ended it in a better way if they tried.

The humourAlthough I haven't read the books, the film was brilliantly constructed. It didn't look so overrated, what with all the advertising and raving on websites and beyond, unlike Avatar, because I knew there was a plot to this movie. The humour was deliciously incorporated as well as the chill of the dark side (although I would have to mention that it was mostly quite dark, so not really like Who Framed Roger Rabbit then) but the movie was meant to be dark because of Voldemort's evil forces so it didn't make it look stupid. It was easy but not predictable to know what was going on, and the fact that the last book was split into 2 films sounded much nicer than squashing it all together. It was very emotional too - I found myself crying in some parts, but I was crying both sadly yet joyfully at the end when they're waving their kids off. A fantastic end to a brilliant series of books (and films) that inspired us all. Expand

The final instalment of the epic series that is Harry Potter does not disappoint. A fantastic cinematic affair, with particularly effective use of special effects, as most of the films in the series have.

The story is the same as the books, with a few deviations for dramatic effect, so if you are not fixated on this precision, it's a great ending to the series. I can appreciate that this may pull on some people's heartstrings, as I have only read the books a couple of times and I felt certain scenes just didn't quite feel right. Some death scenes were a little rushed in my opinion, but grief and death are handled overall with a level of maturity that was satisfying from a film aimed at such a wide audience. The development of the story was very well paced, so that I was enticed by the action whilst being drawn in by a very solid script. The difficulties of revealing the twists at the end of the film was handled very well but was quite linear in conduct, so that a particular scene with Voldemort didn't have as much impact as I would've had from making the 'reveal' a little later.

Although a couple of scenes didn't gel particularly well with me, this is a fantastic film, and a worthy end to such a popular part of modern western culture. As long as you come in prepared for a non-exact interpretation of the books, I have faith that you'll feel the same.

I know this sounds odd because voldemorts taken over its not supposed to be happy right? well yes but even the end train scene was depressing i mean in the book it was happy and there were jokes but not in the movie. I thought the battle scene was great and even though it wasnt in the book the giant magic bubble was a cool invention. overall a great ovie but could have been a little happier Expand

Deathly Hallows part 2 ended the series in an amazing way. The feel of the last three movies (HBP, DH1 and DH2) were so phenomenal it's actually a shame the beginning of the series wasn't up to this level of production and this quality. The actors have never been that fantastic but their work on DH1 & 2 was really genuine and they delivered it perfectly. It was really strange how the movie started off heavily action packed and then slowed down some but the over all feel was of a deadly magical war which was pretty accurate. The special effects were definitely a standout . No other series has managed the impact this book.movie series has and this movie ended it with a bang. Expand

The Fight between Harry Potter and Voldemort was epic, is going to be remember until the end of times. The effects, the acting, the directing, the sound, everything was so good, I really believe this was the best movie of all the Harry Potter films. The Only thing i have to say that could have been better is the battles between some of the death eaters and the Hogwarts students, and Molly and Bellatrix, but that was just a detail, but I would like to see it anyway. I saw it in 2-D at the midnight showing, and I can say that it is easily the best novel adaptation since The Lord of the Rings series. The writing does justice to the novel, the action is great, and it's a fantastic piece of cinema that should definitely be given some academy awards. The film picks up exactly where the last one left off, and features Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they search for the remaining Horcruxes. As ever, the acting is not the film's strongest point, but characters like Neville, Snape, and McGonnigall give the best performances to date in the series. There are quite a few funny moments, mostly due to the writing, which again is the best to date in the series (save maybe Prisoner of Azkaban). From the get-go, the action scenes are awesome, and the effects are great. Many casual Potter viewers who have not read the books will likely enjoy this final Potter more than the previous few, which were mostly expositional and had little action. The director also nails the drama sequences, with Alan Rickman pulling off the final revelation of Snape superbly. I would have liked there to be a bit more "cool down" at the end, as the film seems to end a bit too early after the end of Voldemort.

So, overall, is this the ending of Harry Potter we've been waiting for? The answer: yes. Deathly Hallows part 2 is an amazing ending to a brilliant series.

The10 years, 8 films and they clearly saved the best until last. When it came to the books I felt that the final book lacked the punch the others had with no overtly moving moments apart from the Snape reveal which seemed rushed in the book. The film on the other hand takes the gravitas developed by 7 movies before it and improves upon the words created by Rowling with a punchy, emotionally charged script by Steve Kloves. Daniel Radcliffe finally lives up to the title of Harry Potter as he carries the viewer through the last 2 hours totally invested in the challenges he has ahead of him. However the clear winner in this film is Alan Rickman as Snape who infuses his scenes with an air of contrition and regret making one of the main montages of the film incredibly moving. If the last film has a flaw its the under use of characters like David Thewlis' Lupin and Robby Coltrane's Hagrid while awarding too much time to original characters such as Kelly Macdonald's Grey Lady. Oh, and Emma Watson was boring......again. Expand

The plot is fairly close to the book and it is a great plot with action-packed scenes and great entertainment. The acting was great too and so was the script. The problem with the movie however was the ending. The ending was a major letdown for me as the movie's ending was far less epic than the book's ending. While the book had an emotionally charged ending that had a nice not to end the series the movie ends not as well witch greatly dissapointed me. The developers should have gone with the book's ending for it was far more better than the ending they had but other than the dissapointing conclusion the movie is still worth watching. Overall, Harry Potter is a great film that is worth watching, this is a definative improvement over the 5th., 6th., and the first part of the sevent book movies. Potter fans should not miss it but they might be dissapointed by the ending. Throughout the years, they've just been consistent sources of entertainment. I always knew going into a Harry Potter film that I would not be let down, but I also knew that I wouldn't be blown away. But leave it to this series to end on its strongest note yet. This movie is the perfect reward for all of us who have followed the series through both the books and movies. While Part I focused primarily on setting up the story and developing the characters, this one focuses on the payoff. Here, it's basically one action scene after another, and that's okay because we've had enough time to get to know the characters. By this point, you care about the characters, so the focus isn't so much on the spectacular effects as it is the characters that surround it. That's what all summer movies should strive to do, but this summer, only Harry Potter has bothered to do so, and what a treat it is. If you've followed the series, get ready for the most exciting movie of the summer. If you're new to the series, go by Blockbuster and have a Potter marathon. The movies you watch might not be great, but it will all be worth it once you get to this spectacular end. Expand

Though it may be difficult to watch for some fans of the book (like me) without being slightly disappointed with all of the things left out of the movies, but it stands very well on its own. The best part of the movie for me were the performances of Alan Rickman as Snape (especially during the scene in the Pensive) and Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort which were both perfect. There were also great visual effects and a beautiful score by Alexandre Desplat though the epilogue was pretty terrible in my opinion. Still, it was a satisfying, and well made conclusion to the phenomenon that my entire generation has grown up reading and loving. Expand

With contrived action that only serves to prolong the tension of the gangDark, powerful, thrilling, emotional, and bittersweet, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is one of those films where it flaws are entirely evident through. With contrived action that only serves to prolong the tension of the gang destroying horcruxes, especially in the Room of Requirement, the film seems resistant to finally reaching its ending and overly reliant on this constant need for tension and action. Toss in the prolonged and similarly contrived moments in the bank, the manipulative nature of Harry seeing his dead parents, the visit from Dumbledore in the spirit world, the predictable restoration of Snape's name, the cheap way in which Snape is run off initially, the cheap death of Bellatrix, the easy way in which Voldemort is weakened through telling him the Elder Wand is not his, the cheesiness of the finale, and the horrible name Harry and Ginny gave their son, the concluding film in the Harry Potter series is objectively flawed. Yet, for every simpering second of this film, I loved it. It was everything I could have wanted and more.

A thrilling and rousing conclusion to this tale, director David Yates is blessed with the opportunity to just get right into the story. With this ability to make a constantly thrilling work from beginning to end, Yates instantly makes this the best Harry Potter film as it is the only one without long sections dedicated to teenage angst. Sure, we see Neville run off to profess his love to Luna, but it is a throwaway line to break the tension more than anything. Otherwise, this is a Harry Potter film without bloat and excess, instead utilizing every moment to build up to the climax and using every film - hello Chamber of Secrets and Room of Requirement - in the progression of this film that also serves as some stellar, but subtle enough, fan service. After building up for seven films, it is tough to imagine this concluding film to truly match expectations as a thrilling and satisfying wrap-up, but with both the plot and characters, the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 more than satisfies.

Having built to an incredible emotional climax, the film may be a bit manipulative, but it always feels authentic. As Harry sees him, Sirius, the wolf guy, and ignores his father, the scene is dripping with emotional authenticity. It is hard not begin choking up as he asks them to always be with him. Though rather low hanging fruit, Yates lends the scene great credibility with strong direction and writing. The writing never seems to be overwrought or melodramatic, but rather appropriately emotional and ringing with authenticity. In a similar vein, the Snape dream sequence is rather powerful even if a tad too long. A strong wrap-up for the character and a reveal of something that is likely obvious, but nonetheless nice to finally see come to the forefront. In retrospect, it also fills in some gaps with the character rather nicely, explaining much of Snape's treatment of Harry and why he was so demanding of the boy throughout. Similarly, giving context to the doe that guided Harry to the sword of Gryffindor is an emotionally resonant touch that is far more subtle, but incredibly powerful once you realize who it represented.

As the concluding entry to a fantasy adventure series, the film's final bits of adventure as the gang track down horcruxes is appropriately rousing and thrilling at all times. With the clock ticking down, the film thrills and serves as an incredible mystery work as the kids track down where everything is and what the horcruxes could possibly be. Though, again, the final horcrux may be a bit obvious at this point, Yates handles it strongly and powerfully at all times, allowing the reveal and following scenes to resonate beautifully even if a tad obvious. Interestingly, it is hard to not see the reveal of the final horcrux and Harry's face-off with Voldemort as being used as a parallel to the crucifixion of Jesus. Intended to die to save the world, mocked by his enemies, killed, and then resurrected to defeat his greatest enemy, the parallels are obvious and further cement Harry as the savior of the wizarding world in the face of the absolute evil that wishes to plunge it into darkness.

With its action set pieces, the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort is intense and often powerful, even if a bit cheesy at times. The blast of the red and green beams combining with one another as Harry slowly overpowers his foes is gorgeous to watch and a beautiful contrast to the drab gray surrounding them. The powerful face-off is one that may be a bit cheesy in execution, but tossed together with Voldemort breaking into a million pieces like the dead bride in Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is more than worth the wait. It is built up so strongly and with such anticipation over the course of seven films that it was hard to see how the film could ever live up to expectations.

Rowling and Steve Kloves got up their sleeves. Not all of them were grave though and in some cases, it’s merely the poor adaption of the source material that causes confusion or illogicality. Either way, it impairs what is actually an appropriate denouement to this outstanding huge story and makes the top rating the film’s best moments would definitely rate a no-go. It's far from being a perfect film and that doesn’t change with a handful of unforgettable scenes. Nevertheless, I reckon it to be a very worthy finale for the franchise and, as with the other seven, the flaws just can’t prevent me from rewatching it over and over again. Expand

This is the best movie of the Harry Potter film series, because it's so entertaining and it got wonderful scenes that just blows me of!

The first thing I got to say about his movie is the beginning, it's so exciting and gorgeous. This movie got an awesome amount of action, but an calm tempo at the same time which made it wonderful. The story couldn't have been more awesome as it is, because it's so damn good, and the music is wonderful! The actors in this movie are fabulous as usual, and I never got bored at any time.
Among all the Harry Potter movies does this one stand out, because its so unique and it contains so much unique scenes that I haven't seen before.

The negative thing about this movie is that it might have been to dark scenes, because it was hard to see all the details in the movie. Another bad thing is that the when the movie was in the "climax-stage" it could have been more dramatic scenes, for example more awesome music, even thought the music is awesome in this movie. Another thing that they could have done is that they could have shown us more of Hogwarts in the future. The last thing that bother me is (SPOILER ALERT!) why Harry Potter destroyed the Elder Wand, he could have become the most powerful magician ever, but in the end I understand why he did it.

The ending must have been the best ending ever in all the harry potter movies, it was so touching and sad at the same time, and if I must say, I cried in the end credits! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is the best Harry Potter movie ever, and I can watch it over and over without getting bored of it!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 gets a 9/10

"It All Ends" is the slogan for the ultimate finale that is 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2', a riveting, exciting and fast-paced finale filled with nothing more than emotional satisfaction. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is back,"It All Ends" is the slogan for the ultimate finale that is 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2', a riveting, exciting and fast-paced finale filled with nothing more than emotional satisfaction. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is back, along with his best friends; Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), after escaping the Malfoy's house and moving on from the tragic death of Dobby in the hands of Bellatrix (Helena Bonham Carter), the search for the remaining horcruxes continue.

As their search for the last few horcruxes continue, Harry discovers that Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) is closer to him than he thinks, when they need to get back to Hogwarts to find the remaining horcruxes, they meet a mysterious man who goes by the name Aberforth Dumbledore (Ciaran Hinds), Albus' brother. Aberforth, as it seems, was not very close to his late brother, and raises the suspicion that Albus (Michael Gambon) was not to be trusted as he has kept many secret things from Harry. But Harry claims that he trusted the man he knew. On their way back to Hogwarts, Neville (Matthew Lewis) leads them back, and it seems that the school has become a war zone. Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) has become the headmaster since he killed Dumbledore, and informs the students that if they know Harry's whereabouts and even attempts to help him, they will be punished. Then the war begins, Harry destroys as many of the last remaining horcruxes that he could find, he discovers the truth about one particular Hogwarts professor, and he finally comes face to face with his nemesis, Voldemort. 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' is a worthy finale to a long running franchise. Director, David Yates has crafted the most exciting movie in the chapter, the most exciting since 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' (2005), and the events unfold in a clean and fast-paced fashion. Fans of the franchise will love what they see. No finale has truly felt more dramatic and emotionally satisfying at the same time... this is the winner of all finales.

Warning: Spoilers
I have enjoyed all the films and love the books, and after how much I loved Deathly Hallows Part 1 this entry, continuing from exactly where the previous film left off, had a lot to live up to. It is less faithful to the mammoth but very interesting and wonderful book than its predecessor. However I found this, apart from one or two disjointed parts where you could tell that details had been left out and the arrival in Hogsmede and the duel between Mrs Weasley and Bellatrix seemed a little rushed, had more flow, was better paced and had more coherent storytelling and less of admiring the scenery than the previous entries.

What stood out for me was not only the darkness of it, particularly the last thirty minutes or so which was a tad anti-climatic but very intense too and also Snape's death, but also the emotional impact. Gringotts(especially for the effects, the dragon being the standout), the moving Ressurrection stone sequence and Harry's final scene with Dumbedore were very well done, but my favourite was the Snape's memory sequence, which was beautifully done and quite poignant. Not only that, it's my favourite Harry Potter scene alongside the Three Brothers animated sequence and the Cave Scene. The 19 Years Later scene was quite affectionate as well, with the use of the original music and all.

Once again, the production values are impeccable. The effects, apart from the odd ropey one in the Room of Requirement scene and Bellatrix's death, are excellent particularly at Gringotts, while the scenery and cinematography are magical with a touch of austerity too, and David Yates delivers his best directing job. There's also my favourite of Alexandre Desplat's scores, I loved his ones for Girl with a Pearl Earring and The King's Speech, the score was also one of the few good points about Twilight:New Moon and I found his score for the previous part very effective. What I loved though about this score was not just how beautiful, haunting and how incredibly melancholic it was, but also how much it enhanced the drama.

The script is very good a vast majority of the time, doing a noble attempt to stick to the spirit of the book. The humour is less stilted and corny than I can find it to be, and when the tone is tense and poignant the writing does an above decent job reflecting that. The pacing is never dull, if deliberately less rushed(Goblet of Fire) or glacial(Deathly Hallows Part 1) as some of the other entries, and the storytelling is always interesting and compelling while never convoluted.

The acting is very good. Rupert Grint is great as he consistently is, Emma Watson while not quite as good as she was in Deathly Hallows Part 1 gives one of her better performances of the series, Maggie Smith and John Hurt are always good value and while I didn't find him easy to warm to at first until Half-Blood Prince in his brief but relevant appearance Michael Gambon is also good. Helena Bonham-Carter, David Thewlis, Gary Oldman, Robbie Coltrane and Tom Felton while neither are at their best here bring a pleasing sheen to the film. Three actors in particular I found stood out and gave their best performances of the series. One is Daniel Radcliffe, at first I found him likable yet wooden with some questionable delivery, however overtime I think he's grown with more emotional range than usual. Two is Alan Rickman, while I have considered him one of the more consistent actors of this series him and the character of Snape really shine here, Rickman is especially good in the Snape's memory sequence. Three is Ralph Fiennes, I think it helps that like Snape Voldemort is given more scope here, that said Fiennes is appropriately sinister in the role and certainly looks the part.

In conclusion, a wonderful film and for me the best of the series. And I still stand by my initial feeling that it was better filming the book as two movies, it would've have felt far too rushed as one. 9/10 Bethany Cox.

The best way to end a film series is by suddenly making a movie like this. It's just how you manage to get all the good parts for the conclusion to prepare fans for the next installment.

It's certainly a step up in terms of filmmaking from Part 1 to Part 2. However, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has no sense for ambition. There's no risk for success. David Yates just gives us a very safe, but well-made 2nd part and respectfully final chapter to the Harry Potter franchise. I just didn't feel the emotion in the end. The tone an the visual all seems much more stirring and captivating. The story, especially, offers an eye full. Part 2 offers unexpectedly deep, perspective-altering and jaw-dropping surprises that'll throw you for a whirlwind of tears and sensible realization. Highly gripping, sentimental, and staggering levels of entertainment is brought to the big screen, and it's irresistible. Yet, the movie disappointingly doesn't go beyond it's comfort zone for success to achieve something spectacular. It just satisfies. The ending, as it did follow the book, is lazily executed and mistakingly ignores the small, reoccuring and culturally mirculous elements evident in each of the previous 6 films' conclusions. Instead Yates justified his ending on the book's. His job is to satisfy the books needs, but also the film's needs and especially in that area of delivery. As a conclusion it needs to reminisce, bring full circle, and revisit the visual elements of the previous films or else those elements meant nothing in developing any form of matter in the story visually, since they are there for the sole purpose to give the Potter universe it's final scene signature. It's how you bring together and conclude a series of films in a complete manner. But David decides to ignore those things and make the ending just fine. But for the biggest, grandest, and most successful movie franchise of all time (despite Star Wars), it didn't do it justice.

Altogether, this is a very enjoyable Harry Potter movie. A fun, emotional, and magical ride right until the end. Highly entertaining with an epic score, a breathtaking climax in the middle of the film, and a soul-shivering vision. The two parts combine the best Harry Potter film to date, but separately as they are, they are individual PARTS of a large movie, but still individual movies, and need to be treated like that. By themselves there are standard Potter movies with one of the most unique instalments (Part 1). Part 2 is striving for, and at times thinks it's achieving, greatness. In the thick of things, it truthfully reaches wonders. But in it's ultimate delivery, it plays it extremely safe and in hindsight, it only did what the book asked. It didn't take the material and visualize it on an ambitious level. It may feel, look, and appear so and it does in the movies high points. But still that's what the book asked it to do. It plays it safe, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's still good. But applaud Rowling for her story and only nod at Yates' vision. Be entertained, but don't expect wonder.

I likedI will start my review by saying that I've read the book but its been more than two years so I've forgotten about it and wouldn't be making any comparisons. There are parts that I liked a lot and there are also parts that I disliked. I liked almost every scene but Snape stood out. Snape was wonderful in this film, his story, his scenes and the acting was brilliant. Voldemort was also great in this film. Everyone acted well so I won't be complaining about bad acting. Now to the parts that I didn't really like. Fred Weasley and Lupin's death. They died in a very anticlimactic way. It wasn't as sad as it was supposed to be. These two are important characters. They just showed their dead bodies and that's it. Another thing is that Malfoy, Hagrid and other supporting characters didn't appear that much. The epilogue is something that I have mixed feelings about. It was in the book and I think it gave the film makers a hard time. The cool thing about the epilogue is seeing how the characters grew and seeing their children going to their same school. The not-so-good thing is that the actors looked silly. The boys (Harry, Ron and Malfoy) looked like normal adults but the girls looked almost the same. Hermione looks like she didn't even age. But the epilogue and other minor bad things didn't ruin the film for me. Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2 is great film and a good and satisfying conclusion to the series. Expand

My only wish for this film was that it did justice to the end of the book, which was a truly powerful and emotional experience. Did it? Well, sort of. A lot of it impressed me: It starts very strongly, deliberately slow to build toward the climactic battle, those early scenes are well written and acted, and watching Bellatrix-Hermione was a treat. But from then I found it hard not to be distracted by the choices the film-makers had made; powerful moments from the book don't seem to have been realised as well in the film. There are a few examples of this but the biggest is Voldemort's eventual defeat; the most important scene in the entire series, and he's gone, with a whimper, not a bang. Carrying the film through are two brilliant performances from Daniel Radcliffe (easily the best he's been) and Ralph Fiennes, this is their film. So much so, that all the other characters feel a bit pushed to the side; subplots with Ron and Hermione, with Luna, Neville, Draco feel rushed and unimportant. However, the films strength lies in its share of emotional moments, and all the big ones are well realised on-screen; I was a blubbering mess. This is still an excellent film, it looks amazing and is really well acted and mostly well scripted. It was always going to be difficult to farewell the series adequately, and they've done it quite well. Expand

The script is all right, but with too many unnecessary dramatic pauses, but the acting is pretty good. (At least as good as you can get with the characters being played) There is a lot more action this time around, however the final duel could have been a bit more spectacular while still staying true to the book. Those who easily cry should beware, as there are two particularly sad parts that could bring tears to your eyes. (I myself shed a single tear, and i am not known to cry during a movie) The action sequences are very well done, and the animation is spectacular. The special effects are great, and the movie really redeems itself for the lousy first half. It's good enough to see even if you read the book, but don't go and buy it for $30 on DVD. I give it an 8.5/10 Expand

You're either a longtime fan of both the novels and films, eagerly awaiting the epic conclusion to this classic hero's journey tale ...

... or you could not care less about Harry Potter, have no idea why so many people have/are going crazy for it, and in any case would not start watching an eight-film series with the very last one.

Then again, you could be forced to go see it by your friend/significant other/spouse/family.

The good news is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 absolutely deserves that 97% "fresh" rating it has on rottentomatoes right now. Director David Yates (the director of the previous three highly acclaimed films) has succeeded yet again. Harry Potter's adventure reaches its thrilling climax and brings a satisfying end to a story that is beloved worldwide in this film.

The main reason being that, given the movie was split into two films for the purpose of staying true to the book, there was still many variations to Rowling's text in Hallows Part 2. These variations however, proved to make the movie more action orientated, cinematic and easy to understand for fans of the movies and not the books. I am only disappointed at the fact that because of past movies, Hallows Part 2 needed to tie loose ends in accordance with what was seen on screen and not in the books. As an adaptation, I feel somewhat cheated, due to the fact that the text was so rich with detail that went unseen in the film. As an action film however, Hallows Part 2 does extremely well. The main plot-line is still there, and I am pleased that Yates really delivered in the final battle. (In the book, the final battle is not as tense nor engaging and I commend Yates for his work). Soundtrack was magnificent, which really added to certain scenes in the film, especially 'Snapes Memories' and the scene where Harry knew he was going to die. These amendments all add to the missing scenes from the text, which makes this film a fitting finale. Expand

The plot is easily understandable to those who have not read the book, as the last 202 pages of the deathly hallows is put into 2 hours of film allowing for more depth. The fight scenes are interesting, enough to keep peoples attention. Overall i would give this 8.5 not 10 simply because i have read the books and the film did not give credit to some of the characters. For example Bellatrix Lestrange, she is made into some top deather witch who is a really powerful witch in the books but looks nothing special in the films because all she does is get killed by Molly Weasley. In the book she fights hermionie, ginny and luna all at the same time then molly comes in, they should have done this in the film, it would have been one or two minutes at the most. The same with Voldemort, ok the fight scene between him and Harry is TEN TIMES BETTER than in the book, but Voldemort doesn't look powerful to people who have not read the book, it doesn't show him fighting Kingsley Shacklebolt, Minerva Mcgonagall and Horace Slughorn at the same time then blowing them away with a force explosion when he sees Bellatrix die. Then Harry fights him. This would have been added a max of 5 minutes to the film but would have made it so much better. Should of shown Remus and Tonks dying, and Fred dieng, but it did add things that weren't in the book. Neville on the bridge was interesting and exciting to watch. Overal an 8.5, should of had another 10 minutes to cover what i said. It is the shortest Potter film to date. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is less action than in the first part, but it's good. The end of the movie is long I think and the death of Voldemort is too quick I think. I was a little disappointed, all these films for a final like this ... I expected more, but it still a good film and a good saga. Expand

While having split the film into two screenings, WB still left out a lot from the book. Not having read the final book I was unsuspecting of what was going to happen, and most of the film for me was predictable. I think the film is an outstanding epic and I can understand why it is becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time. Much like the films predecessors it crams all the action into parts of the film leaving some of parts of the film a little boring. The film overall is an epic film to cap off an epic series, although the ending is too cheesy for a series of this popularity. Very good 8/10. Expand

He had a lot to take on and lot to deliver especially with his political television background. The risk however has payed off ever since, and since the beginning of paranoia and war in Phoenix to the combination of incoming dread and light relief in Prince, to the molding of a road movie in DH part One setting the scene for all out war in good vs evil Yates HAS delivered. This film is no different as he searches and contains a tight grip on the plot and action whilst twinning personal character development and authentic special effects to produce a rocket fulled ride of wizards and witches in search of retribution , absolute Power and Justice. Yates's grounding in reality is where the later Potter's find their feet in series but also in British cinema as a whole. His choices to use a pallet of strained colour and a dark looming overcast perfectly captures the situation in the plot and the audiences realization that the legacy of Rowling's Potter is at an end and for most cases the audiences childhood. No true Potter fan can be one hundred percent pleased and so with a sly niggle I must confess a deep regret at the filmmakers choice to not deal with the small matter of supporting characters outcomes so tamely. Especially with How they captured the beautiful Horror in the others through characters such a Sirius Black. And yes they divert from the books in a small way. But this is cinema , this is an adaption and this is absolute Potter at his most moving , thrilling and finest .By God in a word it is simply, Brilliant. Expand

A great home theatre system is sufficient. Good Job ! Expand
