Wow, it's been said a million times, but what a stunning film. Even watching it outside of theaters, nearly a decade after it's release, the visuals stand the test of time. Incredible. If there is anything to take away from my review is thatWow, it's been said a million times, but what a stunning film. If there is anything to take away from my review is that this film is, simply, awe-inspiring.

The heartfelt emotions conveyed in the story were captivating. The movie shifted from phase to phase effortlessly. This movie really harkens back to the Avatar movies in terms of a beautiful motion picture. The lessons about human resilience is a timeless tale. The weaving in of religion elevates the ethereal connection of the film. The uniqueness of it's design and style, particularly for it's time, I imagine was a defining piece of art.

There are so many positive things that can be said about the film that I'll leave it with this-- this movie is a piece of art, an evocative piece that is emblematic of movies abilities to tell a story. While the visuals, the sound, the cinematography, the ambiance, the transitions are all sublime, they provide the base perfectly, which allows for the frankly simple story to blossom.… Expand

Hélas, c’est globalement bien mal écrit. notamment ces dialogues vraiment… ridicules. George Clooney à l’opposé a un rôle réduit à la portion congrue et c’est tant mieux parce qu’il est mauvais et qu’il devrait s’en tenir à ce qu’il sait faire : des pubs pour le pseudo-café d’une corpo.

En tout cas, on ne s’ennuie pas… ou presque pas. On s’énerve plutôt devant tant d’incohérences d’un scénario torché par quelques alcooliques anonymes, assurément. Le côté psychologique est puéril et ridicule comme en témoigne le personnage de Sandra Bullock et son passé… pathétique, son « background » comme on dit. Une caricature (on dirait la petite maison dans la prairie. Ou la petite conne dans l’espace). Et à part ça, je suis impressionné : elle lit le russe… et le chinois !… La musique est assez réussie dans l’ensemble mais s’avère trop envahissante : elle prend même carrément la tête au bout d’un certain temps. Un film finalement… étonnamment décevant !… Expand

Great Sci Fi flick. But a little boring at times. If its your first time ever watching something in outer space, then yes, its gonna be breathtaking...but after you've seen a few of these movies...this score will continue to drop.

This is not a sci-fi movie, this is an action movie set in space. Not a great one either, given the blatant disregard for simple physics. This is big studio efforts to bring romantic films into space. The first of a few.

I found this film to be an exercise in style by the director. Cuaron is a technically excellent director but this film ends up a bit in exhibitionism. The beautiful films set in space are others.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very claustrophobic film - its certainly a film to avoid if your prone to motion sickness, as it (inevitably) includes a lot of footage of the main characters floating about in space. Its quite thought provoking, in that it made me think about how small we are in our planet, compared to the clearly vastness of space. Some scenes are particularly disorientating in how their shot primarily from the bottom of the characters' spacesuit helmet, so you only get a brief view of their surrounding environment, while their floating around and around in space. There is definitely a spooky atmosphere present.

There are some amazing shots, views of the Earth in terrific colour and I imagine this is a film that looks better the larger the screen you view it on.

I thought that the music was really quite haunting - think cold, chilling, sharp stringed instrumental music. Some scenes were very intense, I could feel the characters desperation and fear as the events took place and I almost had my heart in my mouth watching, wondering what would happen. I found myself quite engrossed in it throughout, which is fairly surprising, given I've never been much of a fan of science fiction fans and particularly those set in space. There is something strangely hypnotic that I found somehow appealing in this film and certainly the fact that it comes in at a pretty prompt hour and a half running time, doesn't hurt.

Content wise, there isn't much likely to offend, although the general claustrophobic and disorientating feel of it may not suit some viewers and I suppose the plot could possibly upset some younger, if particularly sensitive, viewers but there wasn't much (if any) strong language, violence or anything like that present. Cast wise, Ryan Stone is played by Sandra Bullock. I liked that the main character was female and that she seemed pretty knowledgeable as an astronaut, even though she was portrayed as reluctant to take the reins when her colleague, Matt Kowalski (played by George Clooney) who appears much more laidback and in control, tells her to save herself. She seems fairly head strong and determined, while also clearly worried and sad at times. I felt Bullock did well in portraying that mix of headstrong-ness and fear of isolation and imminent death. Other cast members are only present as voices heard through the astronauts communication in their headsets. They include Ed Harris, Amy Warren and Phaldut Sharma.

Theme wise I'd say the main themes are isolation and resilience, plus, I suppose, hope.

One scene I found particularly spooky involved Ryan facing up to her situation, clearly feeling an element of despair and her tears floating around in front of her. That felt quite poignant. I suppose it makes me think of the cheesy old line 'in space, no-one can hear you scream' only Alien this is not - there is no horror-esque gore, blood or guts (as mentioned) and yet the clear sense of isolation and the despair that prospect leads to, is very well, almost chillingly brought across. I'm not sure if I've seen a film that quite works as well as this one does, in portraying it. If I had to mention any criticisms, then I'd say that there are one or two plot details which did seem a little unlikely to my un-trained eye - the main one being to do with oxygen supply running out, yet this not seeming to actually happen but I won't say anymore due to the obvious risk of spoiling the plot.

Yes, I'd happily recommend this film, as I found it to be quite spooky, poignant and emotive. It has a very good use of incidental music, the characters are well portrayed, it features impressive cinematography and its thought provoking. It isn't a film I'd recommend to anyone who suffers from motion sickness or who otherwise doesn't like films with constantly moving camerawork, for fairly obvious reasons but apart from that, I'd recommend it.… Expand

I've heard a few people rave about the movie Gravity, saying how wonderful it is. It is beautiful, but especially in the cinema. I remember deciding to watch this movie in cinemas because critics were all praising it as one of the best movies of that year. I watched it in IMAX 3D and remember being blown away by the movie. I watched it in IMAX 3D and remember being blown away by the movie. It won: Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing at the Oscars which is a lot of awards. I've decided to rewatch it on a whim but this time on my home TV. The question is if this movie is overrated or deserving of its accolades. Let's talk about the concept first, it's great. A survival movie in space, with no monsters or anything like that, is such a great concept that has not been done before or since its release. The movie perfectly illustrates the horror but also the beauty of space in a way that surprisingly meshes well together. On that note of the beauty, the cinematography is amazing. A lot of amazing cinematography is usually using real shots but Gravity does it all through CGI. It shouldn't work as CGI is quite obvious and bad CGI can even take you out of the movie but Gravity doesn't "fall" in that category. There are a lot of gorgeous shots that feel like paintings and this is partially thanks to the amazing visual effects. The set design for the space ships are claustrophobic and further emphasise the loneliness within this movie. The score is great and elevates the tension in the scenes where the score is prominent but during the more hopeful scenes, the score is more orchestral and beautiful. The movie doesn't rely on the score too much and sometimes just lets the silence of space or the breathing of the astronauts to suck the audience into the movie and it works. The movie is visually spectacular but what about the characters and story? The movie is revolved around Dr Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) who is our point of view character. For the most part, the movie makes us care about her because of the situation she is in and that is fine. However, the director (Alfonso Cuarón) decided to include a scene that elaborates on Ryan Stone's backstory on Earth. This is a good choice as it makes the audience more sympathetic with her and more understanding of why her personality is what it is or why she does certain actions or choices in the movie. Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) is a sort of anchor character that support Ryan throughout the movie. He has a contrasting personality to Ryan as he is funny and charismatic yet due to being more experienced is also one who guides Ryan. I like the dynamic between the two of them and when both of them are interacting it's funny or heartwarming. I also have to praise Sandra Bulluck as she does a great job in carrying this movie. Her performance whenever she is struggling in space feels genuine and I can feel the fear and panic just from the tone of her voice. She also delivers in the emotional moments that bring the scene to life. She was deserving of that best actress nomination at the Oscars. George Clooney does a pretty good job as well. Although, he mostly just plays Matt as the witty and charming guy. I do like it when the two are together, George overshadows Sandra which sounds weird but that is exactly what it should be in terms of who their characters are and what the plot is asking.

I don't have many flaws with the movie that aren't just nitpicking but I do think the fact that Dr Ryan Stone seems to constantly panic in the first half of the movie kind of weird. Dr Ryan Stone just seems to not know the basics of being in space so know it all Matt Kowalsky constantly has to tell her stuff that I think she should've known. From a movie perspective, I get why this choice was made so that the audience can easily understand things about space but it could've handled way better in my opinion. Additionally, we get some backstory on Dr Ryan Stone but we don't get anything on Matt which I find a bit odd and lessens the impact of a certain scene. Unfortunately, I do think a lot of the impact this movie has is sadly lost because I am not watching it in a cinema. You could argue that with a lot of movies but for me watching this throughout certainly made me think "this would be way better in a cinema". In conclusion, I still really enjoyed the movie. Yes, the movie is impressive because of its style but in terms of substance, it certainly is lacking. However, the movie is just so visually spectacular that I don't mind it. Furthermore, a lot of great movies such as "Dunkirk" and "1917" do similar things to Gravity and they are both great movies as well. Gravity still is one of the best space movies to have come out in the last 20 years. I feel this movie accomplishes a lot with visual effects and space cinematography. A lot of people might not be talking about this movie anymore but for me, I certainly will still remember it.… Expand

I have no words to describe this masterpiece.
I watched it 3 times and still in awe of what I saw, I have only one regret that I haven't watched it in 3D or in a huge Cinema. I don't think I need to praise its VFX work as it won the oscar forI have no words to describe this masterpiece.

Metacritic rates this straightforward, dull and cringe-inducing "film-catastrophe" higher than...2001, a space odyssey.
The first 15 minutes are great entertainment....but then, it astonishes not by its CGI effects but its stupidty.

I love Bullock and Clooney. And I fell sorry for them. Was watching this in 2019 and I have never felt so frustrating. Absolute nonsense and unscientific movie. If you didn't watch it, won't do that.

Some stunning shots and sound but sadly that's pretty much it. It's lightyears away from other movies which take place in space such as Apollo 13, First Man, The Martian or crazier ones like 2001 Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Sunshine, EventSome stunning shots and sound but sadly that's pretty much it. I guess people were happy to see Sandra Bullock on the big screen along with George Clooney. They both played their role well but their characters are typical clichés. If you like shallow stories that try to be deep with implausible events happening one after another I guess you'll like it. For the rest don't waste your time.
I’d give it a 5 for the shots and technical breakthroughs but I’m baffled from the high scores this movie received and trying like many others to give this movie the score it deserves, 6 at most.… Expand

This is one of those few movies where Sandra Bullock shows that she can actually act. While liberties have been taken with some of the science of the movie most of it is actually relatively good showing how physics work in free fall. The scenes in this movie are beautiful. The story which is about survival didn't intrest me that much as did the acting from Sophie Bullocks. I watched this movie yesterday or the night before last and, frankly, I was a bit divided about it. I expected something more. I expected something more. The script is simple: in the near future, a severe blast causes a chain reaction destroying most orbiting satellites and launching a shower of space debris compromising the survival of a team of American astronauts who were repairing the Hubble Telescope. It's a plot that works but has serious credibility problems based on the great improbability of all our satellites being destroyed at the same time. It also totally ignores some science issues such as the abundance of space junk in Earth's orbit and has a plot hole that rubs the absurd: how the astronauts were able to listen to dogs in China if they were not even able to communicate with the own base in Houston? Sandra Bullock is the main character, in the role of a scientist who was selected for that mission by being an expert on the subject. The actress is good and her quality is unquestionable but I think her character wasn't well thought. Despite being a rookie in space and showing little training, her character is able to decently decouple herself in a ISS shuttle and in a Chinese one, something her training would probably never have prepared her for not being strictly necessary to her mission. There is a latent contradiction here, and it does not to be a physical or a genius to realize that and to detect others in the film. George Clooney is a good supporting actor but sometimes his posture, somewhat childish and relaxed, prevented me from actually feeling any tension, not to mention that the way he dies is absolutely cliché. The direction of Alfonso Cuaron works reasonably, and I think I realized some scenes that intentionally copy great films of the past in order to to honor them. This is beautiful and symbolic. The end of the film also seems loaded with symbolism.

The technical issue, however, is beyond reproach. CGI is absolutely grand and the images of our planet are breathtaking. I liked cinematography and soundtrack, discrete but competent. The way they put the actors floating weightless also seems incredible and realistic, just like the ships, tools, space suits and even the floating debris. Visually, the film is powerful and realistic but it's not the first time I say this: it's not a CGI storm that makes a good movie. The script has to be good. And the fact is that the script of this film, although it works, has a lot of holes, errors, absurd moments and contradictions. No matter how improbable is the situation the movie shows, the audience has to feel that it's real and it's happening. And I could not feel it here.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A strong contender of Oscars 2013. Gravity is terrific, astounding, sentimental, thrilling, and the CGI is amazing. This movie is one of my favorites for the year 2013.

The two main cast duo, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney have showed us a great acting performance. The chemistry between the two is just spectacular. Clooney manages to become the adviser and guidance counselor for Bullock who advises to keep her fear aside and be optimistic of the future ahead of her. The plot is simple, easy to follow and yet touching. This movie illustrates the value of life and shows us to remain calm and not letting fear decide our fate. I was moved to the scene of how Clooney feels calm and understands the true meaning of friendship (or love) for Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and the notion of life despite his inevitable demise. He even manages to still be calm and help Stone even though he is drifting in the endless stream of space. The relationship between the two characters is a sight to behold in the movie. You can see that Kowalski (George Clooney) deeply cares for Stone and even doesn't hesitate to sacrifice himself when their lives are hanging in a thread. He is a wise and caring gentleman who will help at least to save themselves.

The film score is well-crafted. The background music is nicely themed with different scenes of the movie such as in the disaster scenes, sympathetic sequences of the movie and the quietness of the movie to emphasize seriousness or the unnerving reality of the situation upholding on a certain scene of the movie such as when the space shuttle is obliterated from the back of Stone will managing to get inside the satellite.

Overall, the movie is a great one and I recommend this to be watched. You will admire the two for their appreciable performances and the beautiful sequences of the movie that is left for you to watch. Notably, the ending is gripping and intense.

Rating: 9/10 or 4.5/5 stars.… Expand

That aside, Gravity does deliver, on a technical and personal level, but not on the "best film ever made" level. Director/screenwriter Cuaron does deliver, with the assistance of his brother and an army of CG artists, an emotional and technical triumph, but Gravity falls back on the tradtional Hollywood action formula. Granted, Cuaron weaves an subtle umbilical motif throughout the film, but he has to also rely on plot devices to take Bullock from lifeboat to lifeboat necessary to drive the narrative. Gravity is a similar film to Castaway, relying on characterization to buoy a simple story, but unlike Castaway, Gravity often eschews reason to adhere to its extended metaphor - a forgivable flaw.

Much is to be admired about Gravity, though. Cuaron isn't afraid to digitally paint grant vistas with long, ponderously beautiful shots that last for three days. Gravity also is the first film to use 3D effectively, using it to create depth and perspective unattained in any other 3D motion picture. That perspective, in many scenes emphasizes the smallness of humanity in comparison with the vastness of space, a technique missing from a pantheon of epic skiffy flicks with ginourmous armadas of ginourmous space ships. However, that doesn't stop Cuaron from making numerous nods to those same epics. Yes, if you look and listen, you'll see and hear snippets of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Star Wars and Alien.

At best, Gravity is a personal space odyssey that could encourage a new generation of astronauts, and at worst a top 50 Blu Ray in your movie collection.

Gravity is worth a full price ticket and best viewed in 3D IMAX. Apollo 13 it is not, but it is still an E ticket ride, at least for those who remember what that is, or that at one time the US had a manned space program.… Expand

In my opinion that’s just nonsense. Of course the experience is better but even though I didn’t get the chance to see it in theater I was still stunned when I saw it at home for the first time.
First of all let’s get to the overall plot: A team of astronauts are out in space to repair the Hubble telescope when a Russian satellite is getting hit by a rocket and now wreckage of this satellite is about to collide with them. After that the only goal of everyone who survived this accident is to get back to earth alive.
Gravity isn’t a Science Fiction movie, it’s more of a nerve-racking thriller. The main characters are played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who both do an excellent job but this flick isn’t outstanding because of the great acting or the story, it’s the superior technical level this movie is on. Whether you talk about sound, which of course isn’t always around as you are in space, so the most of the time you just listen to the powerful soundtrack, the impressive visuals when thousands of pieces of metal fly by you, or just the camera movement by Emmanuel Lubezki who won several Oscars for a good reason.
In the first few minutes you get to see a very long shot which really involves you into the catastrophic events. Even when you are just at home lying on your couch you feel sick in the stomach when crewmembers are tumbling around. It’s really rare that I can feel for the characters that much as in Gravity, which gets supported by POV (point of view) shots here and there. That’s why I don’t get why a lot of people are complaining about this movie being boring, as he doesn’t let you breathe a lot during the short runtime of 91 minutes.
The only concern I got with the film is a very cliché turning point within the movie, but I don’t want to spoil things here so I’ll just leave you with that. This aspect gets easily dubbed by all the other great things I mentioned.
In the end Gravity isn’t just a movie, it’s more of an experience you should witness. Don’t get turned off by people complaining about watching the movie at home although a big TV and some good headphones or a surround system are recommendable. Overall it’s not perfect but definitely worth a watch!… Expand

“My Sister’s Keeper” is an American and dramatic movie which is directed by Nick Cassavetes. It was released in 2009 and was based on the novel written by Jodi Picoult. “My Sister’s Keeper” had won several awards such as Teen Choice Award (2009) in the category of Choice Summer Movie Drama, ALMA Awards (2009) in the category of Outstanding Actress in Motion Picture, won by Cameron Diaz, and Young Artist Award in two categories: Best Performance in a Feature Film-Leading Young Actress, won by Abigail Breslin, and Best Performance in a Feature Film-Supporting Actress, won by Sofia Vassilieva.
Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) was born by genetically engineered to save her sister, Kate Fitzgerald (Sofia Vassilieva), who suffered from acute promyelocytic leukemia when she was still a kid. To let Kate keep alive, her mother, Sara Fitzgerald (Cameron Diaz) gave up of her career as a lawyer and be a full time housewife to take care of Kate. But when Kate turned fifteen, she had renal failure. So this time, Anna was then forced by her mother to donate to Kate one of her kidney, but Anna did not agree to it because her future would be affected. Then she decided to sue her parents to seek medical emancipation and after many of her internal organs, tissues, and blood cells were donated to Kate. So, this ends the synopsis.
There are some aspects that I like and dislike from the movie. I like the acting of the characters because they seem to act really good especially the main characters. Kate’s family shows unconditional love towards her. Their sadness is simply so touching. About the editing aspect, I most like the flashback scenes. These scenes help the audience to get more understood where a problem actually comes from. The costume design is quite simple, but what matters is the movie inspires.
To my opinion, I dislike the visual effects. They are too ordinary and plain, and not fascinating. These have made me feel no patience and I cannot wait to watch the ending of the movie. Also for the editing, some dialogues are muted. The muted dialogues let the audience to guess and will be unsure to what the characters are talking about. There are few inaudible dialogues when Sara is communicating with the doctors and the nurses. “My Sister’s Keeper” actually prefers to have narrations instead of playing the background music. Therefore, the background music is only played for once or twice.
My overall reaction is, I like the beginning of the story. I find it ethical and good to watch although it is less humorous and not entertain. Nevertheless, it is fine to try to watch for at least once. I think you should prepare some tissue paper to dry your tears because the story is really sad. Plus, this is a parental guidance movie so it is better to take your whole family along. For the ratings, then I can rate that “My Sister’s Keeper” gets 7.9 out of 10 scores.… Expand

This is because not only are the visuals stunning and awe-inspiring, but there's a suprisingly excllent performance from Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, who manage make it personal and play these roles with conviction, and the changing emotions you might expect.
This movie constantly flits moods and emotions, which is why it doesn't drag or bore (when it easily could have) and just when you think 's okay, something always happens to catch you off guard, maintaining the tension perfectly. 'Gravity' is bloody amazing
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The sheer tension and bleakness does take away some of the potential for emotion - you don't neccessarily feel sympathy towards the characters, more for the situation itself, but this is still thanks to great acting
VERDICT: It's nothing sort of bloody amazing. Gravity is a bleak, scary, brilliant space adventure like no other. Just wow.… Expand

The film takes you into a suffocating atmosphere and plays with your mind at times. The visual effects are mind blowing and it does not matter if you watch it on 3D or 2D, the experience is great. It does not have the greatest plot ever, but it is quite curious that a movie does not need to be rich in storyline to be great. Gravity has enough visuals and superb performances to succeed. I watched it with very high expectations and it did not disappoint me. This film definitely deserves its high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (96/100 and 97% respectively). It was worth the hype. I could not breath during the whole movie and my heart was racing. I almost had a heart attack watching this.

Gravity is undoubtedly the most thrilling film of 2013. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat all along. I am calling it now one of the best movies of the year. It did not need a complex storyline or a brainy script to be a good movie. The plot was quite easy to follow and understandable to me. I felt connected with the characters. They are not boring scientists, they are humans, and the dialog between them felt very genuine to me. Moving on, it does not matter if you watch Gravity on a small TV or on your laptop the experience is still great. Damn, I could watch this film like a hundred times and never get bored. I also want to add that the musical score is astonishingly masterful.

On the upside, Gravity is highly entertaining, scary and unforgettable. It has top-notch visual effects, and its final act is neat. Watch it if you have high expectations or if you are a fan of the horror genre, also if you liked some other films from this amazing Mexican director. I am pretty sure that fans from the writer-director Alfonso Cuarón will not be disappointed. On the downside, the plot may seem short for some people, but as I said above, it does not need a vast plot to be an excellent film. In conclusion, Gravity is a terrific piece of work that boasts: the best CGI I have seen in a film, a heartbreaking performance by Sandra Bullock, and an impeccable direction by Cuarón. [A-]… Expand

That movie eh !, I have never felt so much suspense in my life with this great movie , which survive in space is a matter of fear, but of luck. Too bad we did not win the Oscar for Best Picture. but I am aware that is magnified.

Brilliant and brave this film has an unorthodox narrative and framework but tells a beautiful story. The two lead actors are phenomenal and the direction is visionary. A different type of movie than the usual fodder. Highly recommended.

The only good thing about this film is that it looks good , but that's it. Basically if I wanted to see this I could have watched a documentary about space and I would have seen the same, except in that case I would also have learnt some facts. This film has no plot, nothing happens, Sandra Bullock floats in space, pushes buttons and talks to herself. Her character is an utterly incompetent astronaut, in fact she is also an incompetent human being because she does not have survival instinct. She is totally unrealistic. George Clooney's character has even less survival instinct, in fact he is probably the most ridiculously unrealistic character I have ever seen in a movie. (At least as far as I can remember.)
This movie is terribly boring, its 90 minutes felt more like 180 minutes. Don't watch this! I can't possibly recommend it to anyone.

I really hoped that some wild animal eats her in the end, like a crocodile in the water or something. It would have been so hilarious and ironic. She survived space but now surprise.. dies on Earth because she has landed at an unfortunate location in the wild. That would have been so nice! LMAO… Expand

I put off watching Gravity because someone told me it was a really good film about a dying astronaut and I pictured something like Ray Bradbury’s Kaleidoscope, which has, in my mind, always been itching to be a really slow, understated,I put off watching Gravity because someone told me it was a really good film about a dying astronaut and I pictured something like Ray Bradbury’s Kaleidoscope, which has, in my mind, always been itching to be a really slow, understated, Oscar-bait-port-to-film. My imaginary version of Gravity is a better meditation on death but it’s also way the **** boring as compared to the real Gravity. Alfonso Cuarón perfected some of the best longshots in film history with Children of Men and he brings the same choreographic talent to 0 G—shut up Neil Tyson, stop texting during the goddamn movie—sorry. Anyway, it’s beautiful and real enough to be a non-stop human vs. space thrill. An internal subplot about Sandra Bullock’s daughter and some heavy-handed symbolism kind of stilt the action through the second and third trimester (wink) though. It’s frustrating because in a very spare film these sorts of additions stand in high relief, which is great if you’re trying to say something, but just confusing if you have nothing to say. I don’t think Gravity actually has anything to say about death, birth, or evolution, but I liked it enough as a space thriller that if someone can convince me that there is something to its reference of those three concepts in a way that does not make you sound like a stoned college freshman then I will call it an 8.… Expand

As a person who has a strong interest in the Sciences, this movie was too "hollywoodish" for me to enjoy and therefore my opinion is very biased. Another stupid film for the stupid masses. Everybody who has seen the real 3D Imax film about the last Hubble service knows what I am talking about. This film is trash from the first minute. I find it very hard to describe the feeling I had watching this movie. A combination of boredom and unpleasant feelings, and the worst part is that the majority of it takes place in vacuum space, with Sandra Bullock character in agony. Have you ever watched films directed or produced by so-called intellectuals, that are rolled in just one room the entire time, or with just one actor? Possibly the most boring movie ever created. Literally has no plot, no acting, no character development whatsoever. It's mind-boggling to think that anyone can like a film where nothing happens.

Gravity is an effects extravaganza with near miss after near miss. The action is almost continual, of the "out of the frying pan, into the fire" variety. Gravity's main drawback is lack of pacing and lack of dramatic tension. There are no flashbacks and many sequences are long shot after long shot to the point where it goes from impressive to showing off. Prior to watching this: I was considering watching the film in 3D. Didn't do it. Left wondering if I should have.

Cons:
1. Very little story. It was as if the characters were desperately trying to tell their backstory and they fail. Left me feeling unfullfilled at the end due to the lack of story.
2. There are many plot holes and many (astro)physical errors.
3. Definitely does not deserve full points and definitely not best film of that year.

Score: 4/5 (no half scores). It's worth paying to watch it in the cinema and in 3D.… Expand

I don't feel it deserves a score of 96 but it's still at least an 8/10, if not an 8.5/10. However, it doesn't quite have the same effect on blu-ray as it did in the theater.
