"Finding Dory" Moves Like A Fish In Water

Quickly, I want to praise and honor the exquisite work of the Disney's animated shorts, simple and plain but with a soul and a perennial and vital message in a young's life. It is indisputable the years of preparation in textures, colors and effects that look like real life. "Piper" the short film directed by Alan Barillaro prior to the screening of the film, has the same heart and essence to the film of the surgeon fish, maturity and the acquisition of independence in a person's life.

Days leading up to Finding Dory's premiere I felt too excited, and although fearful of find a bad surprise, love for Pixar films and especially to "Finding Nemo" - one classic with whom I grew up - only did increase cravings. Minutes before of the movie's beginning, something within me was nervous, and it's logical, I was about to see a sequel of a true classic. The air conditioning was warmer than normal, I was uncomfortable in my seat and my whole body exuded; but like a divine tranquilizer, Disney's castle appeared, Pixar's iconic lamp jumped and unexpectedly on my cheeks are slid a few tears, the adventure had begun again.

Lately, in American films has been divulged one rumor that affirms that the famous and costly sequels, prequels and remakes have been a fiasco, for which reason, the major studios are rethinking finish these projects and start a new original boom. Although this statement is quite true - on account of revenues at the box office -, there are unique gems which deviate from this path fully ("The Conjuring 2"). "Finding Dory" that personally, isn't a sequel, since Nemo and Merlin does not return in the main roles, and for that reason, we can't judge it based on the original. It's a successful Spin-off that meets with the long wait - 13 years-, providing the same anticipation, the same connection with the characters, a wonderful and new adventure and a remarkable technological improvement.

One year more after what happened in the first film, Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) lives agreeably with help of her friends, an almost normal life, has a house next to them, she gets a family and is happy with the lifestyle that has. The problem lies in the moment in which brief memories came to her head about her childhood, reminding immediately that she had a real family. With courage, joy and a little of short term memory loss - interesting fact, she hasn't forgot her purpose - begins with her faithful friends an oceanic adventure without precedents that will bring back to the most famous fishes in the film world. On the way different and beautiful characters are added to the trip with the same connection and coupling than the previous. Crush (Andrew Stanton), who leads the marine turtles and Mr. Ray (Bob Peterson) teacher stingray are the characters already seen that momentarily do presence, but the new and fantastic heroes are an inattentive bird (clear substitution to the seagulls), a duo of unique sea lions, the octopus Hank (added to the list of "best characters"), a beluga whale and a whale shark with loss of vision. Throughout the film, acceptance of the peculiarities of each fish, learning to live with these defects and keep swimming to achieve self-determination or freedom underlie, a clear message to every family who has a child with special conditions represented in the film by the shortcomings of each marine animal,

In 2003, the computer effects were still in its foundations, even so they provided visual landscapes never seen before. However, thirteen years later, long enough so that these techniques mature , "Finding Dory" surpasses its predecessor. Beauty and perfection marine is illustrated with a detailed and fine brush, carefully from every ray of sunlight that penetrates into the water to each color and size of the hundreds of fish. Andrew Stanton and his team have recreated one of Disney's best sequels , narrative and visually.

"Finding Dory" despite not being a direct sequel, tends to take elements rendered, made up meticulously for its benefit, but these are obvious. From the replacement of characters to the pools and tanks of the "Quarantine Section of the Institute" a clear synonym for the fish tank of the dentist. I must confess that a human character of the magnitudes of Darla was not present.

A sense of humor more relevant and a fluid and ingenious script makes of the adventure a real enjoyment. Dory's flashbacks are captivating and poignant - trick that Disney has continually exploited in its films - and although sometimes the reaffirmations of her loss of memory becomes a little repetitive, it finished them on time and fun arises.

"Finding Dory" is a film crammed family, soul and intelligence, the quest for independence, love to each person and the enjoyment of the moment are mixed of heterogeneous way with a sound and visual landscape of first-class.

It's "Unforgettable".

Nothing could ever top Finding Nemo, but this movie is good. My only problem is that the beginning moved so fast that I wished there was more story development and more character development; however, Dory still touches my heart.

Marlin and Nemo have a little less screen time (obviously) which is why it feels strange because it was so much about them in the first. The animation is fantastic as always, the voice acting pretty great, although for obvious reasons you can kind of tell Nemo is someone else. and the new characters well their not as fleshed out like the side characters in Finding Nemo, I really don't think this movie needed to exist, movies that need sequels, would be a bugs life, the incredibles, walle, Brave, etc, NOT THIS ONE Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie mixes nostalgia with shocks and thrills, pulling the wool over your eyes only to have you surprised in both a happy and sad way at each corner the movie pulls.
It stays true to the original with colorful and varied sea life, while still keeping the ideal characters die hard fans love.
In the end we thought that Dory's family was killed, only to be shocked and amazed by the fact they were simply released to the big blue. Pixar, and other major movie making companies often try presumed death scenes and fail miserably, nobody even falls for them anymore, but I legitimately believed Dory's parents had been killed, because the overall execution of the scene was perfectly laid out.
People loved the original and this almost did as well.
This movie puts other recent sequels to shame.

It has amusing parts along with sad parts. It introduces new characters, while still showing some of the past characters as well, which was one of the best parts, because movies hardly do those types of things. The one thing I can say though is that Finding Dory really is just focused on her unlike Finding Nemo where it was focused on both Marlin and Nemo. Still a great movie, if you were really liked Finding Nemo and a die hard fan like I am, than I am sure you will absolutely love this movie. There were a lot of heart felt moments that were great too. I have to say, that the affirming messages about limitations was somewhat lost on the "outcast" seal. The seal had no role and I don't think it hit the home run the film makers were looking for. Also, there were some far fetched scenes that took away from the pixar magic. Other than that, I loved everything. This was the best pixar squeal thus far. Usually squeals blow (let's just be real). I also thought the animation was on point. Who doesn't love underwater scenes?? Expand

The animation is nicely improved over the original and the new characters are simply lovable. Dory is able to be the new protagonist and the backstory she's given is inspiring and heartwarming. The film's message about disability and how to deal with it is great. This shows very cleverly that someone who suffers from something can overcome it and live a normal life, just with a little extra help. Dory's memory problem; which was comic relief in the first movie; is now treated as a major problem that her and the other characters have to deal with. Most, especially Dory's parents, treat Dory the right way. They never gave up on her and found clever ways to make Dory remember certain things. Both Dory and her parents should be commended for the way they deal with their problems. The saying, "just keep swimming" is a simple, but very effective message. The fact that disability is even mentioned, let alone fully explored, is great in itself and demonstrates why Pixar is one of the best animation studios in the world. They're able to make beautiful films that have great characters and that tackle thought provoking issues; while still being funny and emotional.

Dory is no different. The old characters make nice cameo appearances and the new ones; especially Hank the octopus; could have their own spinoff movie. Many scenes are simply hilarious, especially one towards the end that had me laughing for over a minute. This definitely is more goofy over Finding Nemo, but like classic Pixar, there still many scenes that will make you tear up. There are also many scenes that were quite tense and suspenseful. The end credits song by Sia is also wonderful and sums up the feeling of this movie quite well. However, there are two major problems with Finding Dory that really set it back. First, the plotting of Dory was very clunky. There were some points that I felt that the movie was going to end and the way the plot progresses is somewhat contrived. At times, characters literally say nothing but the emotion is a bit forced, not earned. In addition, no matter how many things this movie got right, I always felt the sense throughout the runtime that this was made only to make a profit for Disney. It feels like there was no need for this to even be made in the first place, like Monsters University.

Overall, Finding Dory is clunky, contrived, and really only made to make money. Nonetheless, this "cash grab" is beautiful, emotional, and thought provoking with fine new characters and a unique story. Dory is no where near Pixar's best, but ranks similar to Monsters University and The Good Dinosaur. Although somewhat unnecessary, it's very good nonetheless.

On the other end,Finding Dory is disappointingly good with being the best sequel it can being both good and bad. On one end, its refreshing to see an animated sequel with this much heart providing a genuine emotional story worth telling. On the other end, Finding Nemo is a masterpiece and if you cannot create a film on par with it, which is impossible than it shouldn’t be worth telling at all we get a bit of both. Amidst the phenomenal animation Pixar is known for, they were able to take the character of Dory and provide a strong emotional story with her character while providing tons of characters that fit the theme while being memorable in their own right. What prevents this from being a masterpiece are the lowered stakes, repeating story elements and character arcs, and not everything jelled like in the previous film. Nonetheless, Pixar is still one of the top tier studios and if they are going to cave into sequel pressure at least they made a substantial and charming film not great but good. Expand

The second and third Toy Story films are some of the studios best works, but its other sequels 'Cars 2' and 'Monsters University' are probably the studios biggest disappointments. As for finding Dory it's probably somewhere between these two extremes. It doesn't quite live up to Finding Nemo, but it's still a worthwhile sequel that still better than the mediocrity of 'Cars 2'.

Taking place about a year after the first film, Dory (Elen DeGeneres) has started a happy new life with Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence). But one day when helping out with a class trip at Nemo's school Dory see's something that remind her about her family and she realises she has to find them. Knowing what it's like to lose their family, Marlin and Nemo go with Dory on a journey across the ocean to find her family. Their search quickly leads them to an aquarium (wisely changed from being located at Seaworld after the Blackfish documentary) where Dory rediscovers her roots and remembers her life before she found Nemo.

It's a good story and one that does feel like an organic development from the first film, but it does feel like a step down from Finding Nemo. Whilst the journey still allows for a lot of emotional moments, there's never the same feeling of urgency or danger as there was in the first film. Plus everything just feels like it's happening on a smaller scale this time. Instead of focusing on a vast adventure across the sea, it's much more scaled down from Finding Nemo taking place almost entirely within the aquarium. It's still a fun setting, but it fails to recapture either the epic scale of Marlins adventure across the ocean, or Nemo's hilariously confined setting of a dentist's fish bowl.

Unlike Cars 2 where Mater never felt like he was a strong enough character to be the lead, it really felt natural to have Dory become the lead. Dory has such a likable personality and DeGeneres' incredible comedic timing makes it difficult not to love her. Plus she's still able to have a lot of powerful emotional moments, including one dramatic sequence that shows her before meeting Marlin and searching the sea for years slowly forgetting her family across her lifetime. It's also a lot of fun to see Albert Brooks return as Marlin and it's nice to see how he's become Dory's surrogate family. But Nemo's return was a little more disappointing. He's still the cute and kind clownfish that we knew from the first film, but he never really has much to do in the film other than just tag along.

There's also a range of new aquatic creatures that the gang encounters when they're exploring the aquarium. There's Destiny (Katilyn Olson) a blind whale who Dory knew as a child who offers a friendly glimpse in to Dory's past. A pair of kind sea lions (Idris Elba and Dominic West) who want to do nothing but nap on their rock. Though the best addition is a octopus with a missing leg named Hank (Ed O'Neil) the loner who is says he's helping Dory for his own gain, but is shown to be a creature with 3 hearts of gold. He's also a real scene stealer with a dry wit and some really creative and over the top sequences showing him getting around the aquarium. Seeing him blend in to environments and sling himself across the aquarium does lead to the most visually creative sequences of the film.

Parts of the film does seem a little too over the top at times. Even for a film with talking fish, some moments where we see fish flying through the air or at one point even driving a truck seems a little too unbelievable. But it does always remain fun. Plus whilst the film shares several story ideas and characters to its predecessor, it's still able to remain wholly original by introducing its own ideas about family and has several scenes that will be able to resonate with audiences of all ages.

"Finding Dory" is a wonderful animated film that's funny, thoughtful, well-written, wonderfully-acted, visually brilliant, and of course, full of heart. Sure, "Finding Nemo" is still the better film, but "Finding Dory," 13 years later, still manages to live up to its predecessor and stand as a fantastic film that shows us that Pixar's still got it after all these years! It also serves as a great nostalgia trip for those such as myself who grew up around the time the first film hit theaters. The animation was as colorful, crisp, and beautiful as ever, but this time around this ended up feeling like the highpoint of the film rather than the story. I think it's also worth mentioning that even the post-credit scene felt so ridiculously last-minute and silly. Overall, simply put it's a fun and enjoyable return to the colorful sea and characters we all remember from the first film, but don't go in expecting much emphasis on an emotional story like most standard Pixar fare. With the forgettable and thrown together sub plots to the mediocre main plot "Finding Dory" really can only depend on it's new characters to be somewhat good. Ellen as Dory was so heartwarming but for the rest of the main characters from the first movie. Well they make themselves as unlikeable as ever. Marlin comes off as a jerk in the movie and Nemo comes off as a nagging toddler. The movie really shines where new characters like Hank and Destiny come in. They are some of the funniest and most visibly and virtually endearing/impressive characters in the movie. With Hank's attitude to Destiny's jokes I feel that more than ever did Pixar do a good job with new sidekicks. This movie is only a slightly better Cars 2 and that's the sad truth. It takes a character that was literally meant for comic reliefs into the spotlight. Finding Dory did it better but they really left her disability at the door for a lot of scenes which I think it odd for a movie about acceptance of people with disabilities. The end of the movie is what seals it has a disaster to me. There's a line for what's realistic in a movie like this and they crossed it by a New York mile. Overall there were some laughs to be had but the movie had me feeling as good as ever to just watch the first one again. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 'Finding Nemo' (2003) is my favorite Pixar movie of all time, a movie that I cherished ever since I first saw it. It's a magical and touching experience that cannot be matched by any other, not even a sequel. When I heard that they were going to be making a sequel to one of my favorite animated movies ever, I found it rather odd to take a magical and touching adventure, and making it into a possible franchise.

Thankfully, 'Finding Dory' is not as unnecessary as it feels to be, it's a movie that has a good heart, it's very charming and very funny from time to time. But, it can also feel a little...underwhelming.

The movie starts off where we see a young Dory with her parents Charlie (voiced by Eugene Levy) and Jenny (Diane Keaton) teaching the little Dory everything she needs to know how to cope with having short-term memory loss. It then cuts to present day where Dory (Ellen DeGeneres, not losing her comedic charm) starts having some strange visions and flashbacks involving her past with her parents. She then realizes where she came from, who her parents might be, and how she ended up being separated from them to begin with.

Her friends, Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (now voiced by Hayden Rolence) try to help her get to where she needs to go, and try to understand what she needs to do and how she'll be able to get there since her memory is not on her side. She gets taken away and finds herself in a tank somewhere where she meets a strange, camouflaging and cranky octopus named Hank (Ed O'Neill) who, selflessly tries to help her get to where she needs to go. As long as they have a deal that Hank can get to where he needs to go.

The movie spends a lot of time jumping back and forth between Marlin and Nemo trying to find Dory, Dory and Hank trying to find the place where her parents were, and the many flashbacks that randomly occur due to the fact that Dory would stare at something that looks familiar and she would have a recollection as to where she has seen that before.

What did strike me the most was how...underwhelming I found this adventure. There was something lacking in this movie that the previous movie had, and that was the heart-tugging emotions that the first movie captures so well due to an intense build-up right to an uplifting pay-off. When Dory finally finds her parents, the way the scene was executed, given how much build-up there was in the first two acts, was not as emotional as I wanted it to be. Dory just finds a place that looks familiar to when she was a child, and then she turns around, and there they are, her parents are just right behind her, and I understand that it was supposed to be an emotional scene, but I didn't feel as overjoyed as I should have, and Pixar is usually good at doing this.

Plus, throughout the entire first two acts of the film, everything seems to happen conveniently... whenever Dory would just stare at something, it would lead her somewhere, whenever she met a character, that would lead her somewhere too. This film is like a puzzle that just solves itself rather than requiring a person to solve it in the first place.

The best characters in this movie are Hank, not forgetting Destiny (Kaitlin Olson) and Bailey (Ty Burrell) who provide a lot of laughs and are worthy characters in the Pixar household. But overall, 'Finding Dory' is a charming family film, children will love it, adults who have seen and loved 'Finding Nemo' (2003) like I did will have a soft spot for it surely. I can't help but feel that maybe this story would have worked better as a short film in the vein of 'Tangled Ever After' (2012) and 'Frozen Fever' (2015), just giving you a glimpse of what happened after 'Finding Nemo' (2003) instead of giving us a feature length sequel.

I wish that there were more memorable characters with back stories that go deeper than just one line of dialogue explaining their relationship to Dory. I also feel like some scenes were added for either pure action or nostalgia to Finding Nemo, but did virtually nothing for the plot it was trying to go for. Finally I think that the pace o this movie is just so fast. it was difficult for me to really get engaged with some scenes at the beginning mainly because the movie spends so little time with them. Luckily it evens out near the end of the film. But even with these issues, Finding Dory manages to be a memorable and heartwarming tale that will satisfy both children and adults with great humor and a decent story that tends to get really deep at some points. I cringed even more when I heard that Dory would be the main star because spin offs or sequels staring the comedy relief rarely turn out well. Thankfully this not only turned out to be better than the marketing built it up to be, it also turned out to speak to me on a very personal level. This time Dory needs to find her parents with the help of Marylin once again and Nemo tags on. It starts to feel like a generic sequel with some of the sae events happening like in the first film but after they reach the aquarium the film takes a direction which allows it to stand on its own merits. The film doesn't have the same large scale but it benefits from its smaller environment as this is a more personal story, Dory's short term memory loss turned to be a mental disability as oppose to a mere chracter quirk. The main conflict of the film overcoming her dissability and learning to live with it. Due to this, I instantly identified with the story in this film more than the first one since it spoke to me on a pure personal level. I live on the Autistic spectrum and I always struggle to live with it. I thank Pixar for representing what it is like to live with a mental disability in a respectable manner. Expand

Long Form (mild spoilers)
-This movie is fun and has decent character development, but what I found to be this films greatest weakness was how much it panders the the fact that it is a sequel. It suffers from extreme plot conveniences that wear thin quickly, and then keep on going under the mask of gags. For instance when setting out on the journey in the first act it instantly cuts to the characters traveling in a current with Crush. The entire plot of the first movie shows how hard it is to find somebody in the ocean, and yet they find Crush off-screen. These instances are forgivable, but the first half of the movie has far to many of these, and as a result, feels to convenient to be believable, which took me out of the story.

-The weakest part of this movie was the first act by far, after that point the story really broadens out, introducing fun, interesting characters whom I enjoyed far more then Marlin and Nemo, who have transitioned into fairly flat characters.

-Unlike the first movie there is much less variation in sets, as most of the movie takes place in the same location, but the art department at Pixar has done a decent job creating variation in these places without losing that aquarium feel

-There was a major punch this movie had going in the second act, but it pulled it largely because it's a kids movie, but it would have earned endless respect from me if it went through with it

-Onto the Big one, the animation is fantastic, and I would recommend the movie on this alone, The octopus character is fantastically animated, and reminds me of solid snake from the metal gear series, giving him endless charm. Although I wish they gave a reason for his fear of the ocean, but I understand that they did not want to as he is just a side character. The characters all look fantastic, the sets are great, and lighting did a great job, despite that fact that several scenes take place in locations that would have no light, such as inside a pipe, but most people wont care of this lapse in logic.

-Interestingly Pixar have recently gone down the route of avoiding having any major villains in their films, having the "Man VS Nature" and "Man Vs Self" kinda narrative, which is fine, but it made the films climax not have the weight it had like in Finding Nemo

-Overall Finding Dory did its job, but early on it beats you over the head with the fact that it is a sequel, and suffers from plot conveniences and a quick ending, which detracts from the experience

The story of Dory is one that had to be told and what Pixar does is bring more life to an already colourful world by telling you where the most interesting character came from. It isn't quite the perfect film that the first is but it is certainly up there with some of Pixar's best work. There are more laughs and inventiveness and a seven legged Octopus (a Septopus) that ultimately steals the show like Dory did in Finding Nemo. Perhaps next Finding Hank could be on the cards. The script is poignant and gives each individual a fulfilling arc whilst also connecting every narrative point into a satisfying conclusion. A lot of fun and reminds us all that when the going gets tough to just keep trying, or swimming if you'd prefer. Expand

In a 21st century Hollywood that is full of sequels, prequels, and remakes, it's not that much of a surprise that we would finally get another trip to the ocean blue to see some of those familiar faces from 13 years ago in Finding Nemo. Most of the familiar faces return and it's nice to see them again. There are times when this movie will pluck at the heartstrings, but this effort feels a little lackluster overall.

As expected, Dory is the protagonist this time around. The character of Dory was funny and fresh in Nemo, but this time it gets old really quick. She has short term memory loss, which we are all aware of at this point, but the movie tends to repeat the same dialogue and Dory's act gets extremely repetitive. Marlin and Nemo aren't really in the movie enough, but the new characters are well done. Ed O'Neill does a great job as Hank the octopus. He really contrasts greatly with Dory and their time on screen is executed nicely.

The problems with Dory are annoying, but probably an even bigger movie killer for me is the lack of a real interesting plot. This is basically an extension of Finding Nemo and is supposed to take place right after the events of the first film. Not much happens here. Some of the scenes are borderline ridiculous and left me wondering what I was watching at times. Even with a brief 97 minute runtime, I still felt bored during the film at times.

In conclusion, Finding Dory is cute. It's worth a watch, but it is not near the film it is acclaimed to be or up to the lofty standards of Pixar.

Finding Dory had some pretty great humour. Not laugh out loud comedy, but more along the lines of “that was funny, I’m going to smile now because that was funny, well played Pixar”. Here are some jokes which I can loosely remember: “Don’tFinding Dory had some pretty great humour. Not laugh out loud comedy, but more along the lines of “that was funny, I’m going to smile now because that was funny, well played Pixar”. Here are some jokes which I can loosely remember: “Don’t bail on me, bailey” and “You trust Becky? Becky is eating a cup”. The stronger laughs came from the visual humour- the slapstick. I would expect this since when I watched the movie the majority of the audience were children. I found myself being entertained the most by the subtle, “adult” jokes that came mainly from the voice acting and animation.
The new characters were all really likeable. I loved the sea-lions as well as the octopus. However Nemo and Marlin (returning fish) felt stale and boring: they created so much conflict in the movie which felt unnecessary and forced, also they hardly added anything to the humour and were mainly there to be damsels in distress. The movie would have been much better without them. Dory on the other hand was great, her quirkiness worked well with every character she encountered and it never got old for me. The only thing that I didn’t like was the whale noise she had to make in one scene that made me cringe a little. Her growth as a character was really enjoyable to watch and I found myself rooting for her.
The moral message of the movie was quite weak. Unlike Zootropolis which did a great job providing a strong, meaningful message emphasised the importance of treating every person equally, to not discriminate on what somebody looks like and not to stereotype. On the other hand, the only message for children and adults alike in this movie is that you should not overthink your life and follow your dreams no matter what. I know this is a positive message but the movie could have done so much more! They could have made a social commentary about how fish should not be used for profit and how their enclosures are unnecessary small so that the paying public can easily watch miserable animals. However, by being anti-sea world they could have potentially faced some sort of law suit for slander and/or deformation.
There was one scene which I really enjoyed and that was partly anti-sea world. Dory and Hank the octopus found themselves trapped in a petting pool for sea life in the children’s section of the aquarium. It was kind of epic how the movie portrayed children as extremely rough, deadly and terrifying, kind of like a tentacle monster. Hands thrusted into the petting pool and created an explosion of water and sand as star fish cowered under rocks and buried into the sand. It compelled me to start a petition to end petting in aquariums because sea-life are not really into touching.
A comparison must be made to the original movie because this is not a stand-alone movie; it has numerous throw-backs to Finding Nemo are not unwelcome. However, the whole tone of the movie was rather different. Finding Nemo was about a desperate father who would stop at nothing in order to find his son. Marlin went through many dangerous and deadly trials as well as traversing so many miles of ocean. Finding Dory is a much more contained experience since the focus is around an aquarium. I remember early in the film Dory says that she is desperate to find her parents and she must reach California to see her parents again. Marlin reacts in a manner that would indicate that California is literally thousands of miles away. Next couple of scenes, boom! They’re in California. I can understand that this was done in order to fit more of the aquarium story line in but it kind of takes away from the first film.
Let’s talk about Hank the octopus. I love Hank the Octopus. He was so cool; he could transform into any object via camouflage, had a selfish bad-ass personality, could perform stunts similar to a special agent and had lost a tentacle (like a decorated war hero). He was always there to help characters out and he was compassionate even though he had a tough exterior (because octopuses have three hearts), he was also beautifully animated because even though octopuses don’t have a visible mouth on the front of their face I could always tell what emotion was being expressed. Another character that really stood out was Gerald the sea lion. An absolute lad. He had a mono-brow, a bucket and a very sassy personality. Resented by the other sea lions Gerald always plotted the next opportunity in which he could bask on the beautiful rock which was always occupied by Fluke and Rudder. I was rooting for Gerald. He was the most interesting and unique character I have ever laid eyes on in an animated film.
Just go and see Finding Dory you will enjoy it regardless of your age because it is a well-made great movie.

Also, the visuals for this move was gorgeous, the scenes were all unbelievably well-designed. There was a lot of character development - Hank was introduced, and he did become a lovable character, and I would like to see more of him. There were also other characters introduced, and I'm sure that children would love to see more of the characters, since they were funny, and they all had different personalities, and like I said, they did all have development, which made the movie even better.

As of flaws, this movie was fast-paced, so some moments in the movie felt like they were rushed. Also, the movie felt like a roller coaster, the movie felt like it was about to finish, but something unfortunate occurred, and it continued, and then once again it felt like it was going to finish, but it continued, which isn't really a flaw, but it is something that I didn't really like. I know that they were trying to create suspense, but it didn't really work in this case.

Overall, this movie is pretty good, and I do suggest people who enjoyed the first movie to watch this movie, since it has the same aspects of the first one, which is good - it isn't entirely different. And this movie is also emotional at times, I've also realised that the directors tried to make it more emotional at certain scenes, but it didn't always work. I also thought that Dory's memory loss would be very annoying, but it was cleverly added into situations that occurred in the movie. If you are worried that this movie wouldn't meet your expectations, don't be, since this movie will. I am a huge Pixar fan, I watched all their movies, and this movie does fit with the good Pixar movies, even if it isn't good as Inside Out, or Toy Story 3.

In Dory, it felt like they kept attempting to place in Finding Nemo shaped holes and then filling them as best they could with new ideas but didn't quite hit as hard and successfully as they did in their first go round. Hilarious and emotional, this was an excellent movie and it belongs snugly in Pixar's untouchable resumé. Expand

With the exception of Ellen "Why doesn't she do more movies" DeGeneres, the voice acting is lifeless, the character designs are obvious and kiddy, and the writing and direction seem flat out lazy.

The characters were great and the reveal of Dory's backstory in small increments was a brilliant strategy. I liked the conflict in this movie on top of that. Sure, there are a series of events that happen, but there's as much happening externally as there is internally, which is why this movie works so well the begin with. As with almost all Pixar movies, the animation is pristine.
However, I think the ending, though enjoyable, lets the movie down a bit, as it is a little too silly. Furthermore, it takes a little too long setting things up in the beginning. It's worthy of a seal of approval, but I can't finish without mentioning the short, "Piper."
"Piper" is perhaps the best thing I've seen all year. It is not only exemplary, but it is the very definition of cinema. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it wins an Oscar for best animated short. Definitely check that out and watch Finding Dory, this year's greatest sequel thus far.

This movie is not as good as the original, but still great. They added new characters that are amazing, like Hank, and old characters, like Nemo. Dory is of course the main character but not the only one. I would say it is a must watch.

I could name several examples ofIn the universe of animated cinema, it has been established that a good supporting character in a film that has been a success (box office and critical) will, sooner or later, be entitled to her own film. I could name several examples of this. Dory, a friendly marine creature with serious memory problems, was adorable in "Finding Nemo", and is the protagonist in this film, made specifically to exploit the character's popularity.

The script is relatively simple: after the events of the first film, Dory is living with her new friends, Marlin and Nemo, but she feels something is missing: she doesn't know where her family of origin is, she knows she's lost, and therefore decides to go in search of his own origins, which can be a challenge for a fish with a short memory. Of course, Nemo and Marlin will have to go in search of her when she disappears.

The movie works on the basis of how cute and likeable it can be because the script has little to give us, and it feels like only a partial rewrite of the first movie. There are several moments when the story rings false or seems to fray because it is so sparse, flaws that Pixar makes up for and hides with a high dose of cuteness. All the characters are cute, nice, the world is pink, and it seems incredible that no malevolent characters appear. In fact, the closest thing to a villain or a dubious character is a sly octopus, determined to get out of an aquarium, and who is a master at the art of camouflage.

The film is visually magnificent, Pixar quality, with excellent visual work, good CGI and magnificent drawings, vivid colors and a wonderful deep blue. It's a good movie for the family and especially if there are kids because there's nothing offensive. The original voice cast is much the same as in the first film, with Ellen DeGeneres standing out in the lead voice, closely followed by Albert Brooks and Kaitlin Olson.

That’s how I feel with Finding Dory. I liked most of the stuff about it, especially the gorgeous animation, but something in the movie just didn’t click for me. The storyline was slightly inferior to the first, but that can be expected in a sequel. The movie blends emotional parts with humor pretty well, but the humor is hit or miss, split about 70/30 really funny to “why did they put that in there?”. The dialogue wasn’t great, with quite a few clichés. The tone of voices that the actors used were out of place noticeably some times. In other words, bad acting in an animated film, no easy task. Finding Dory is an okay film that was decent, but from PIXAR standards, a real disappointment. Expand

It has a big package of emotions! I literally felt a lot of emotions, I enjoyed, laughed, cried and smiled. It's hard to find such a decent movie, like Finding Dory!

The animation improved very much, it's an eye-comforting animation, with its colors, details and the sea... Everything went very awesome with the animation!

The sense of humor was so unique and funny.

The story was so related and tight together, in a way that made clap for each chapter in this movie! It was so emotional and unique!

The voices were very very excellent! The characters are memorable and great!

So Finding Dory worth-ed waiting, with its surprising, emotional and funny story, Finding Dory deserves an A+!

Similar to Cars 2 and Monsters University,Finding Dory is the sequel to Finding Nemo and I was super worried going into this movie back in 2016. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie was good, but it's definitely no "Finding Nemo". Similar to Cars 2 and Monsters University, PIXAR takes the secondary character Dory and gives her the spotlight. In Finding Nemo, I already thought Dory was a great character, and in this one, she proves herself to be even more likable, which is big praise. The other characters, minus Hank the septopus, are a bit bland and I don't have much good or bad to say about them. The story works really well for me, and the animation once again is stunning. I am very impressed at how realistic the water and ocean look and the way they can make characters move naturally. My biggest issues with the film are the humor and the ending. The humor in this film is not even close to the level of Finding Nemo which happened to be an extremely funny film as well as touching. This movie has some of that but the emotional levels are not as high, not really even close. And the ending is just insane. It is just pure lunacy, kind of hilarious, but not in a great way. It's this climax that makes me not want to rewatch the film in the first place but I did anyway because I was curious to see how I feel about it now. Then the movie ends about five minutes after this crazy event takes place which was very abrupt and frankly sloppy for PIXAR. Luckily this is overall a surprise and a mostly fun movie that I'm glad wasn't awful at all. Finding Dory is a good PIXAR film, but at this point in time, PIXAR was in another slump again. Expand
