I am generally not a person leaning towards the fantasy genre, in books and, after watching this for the first time when it first premiered, especially movies. The lugubrious story is pitiful to watch, the acting is corny as well as the dialogue, and to see Malkovich and Irons act in a film like this one is disgraceful. Irons should stick to being a villain. I re-watched to see why it was so bad. Now I come to regret letting my curiosity make my decisions.… Expand

Absolutely awful, and I say that having read and enjoyed the book when I was eleven years old and had lousy taste. At least "Star Wars" has better acting and a reasonably thrilling plot; the effects and sets are what little this movie has going for it and they are not on display nearly long enough to redeem it from utter turpitude.… Expand

Eragon just fails.
A sad and terrible adaption of the book. Eragon is shot down almost to begin with over poor writing and a bad script. The movie goes from an action adventure to a crud filled tornado in a matter of minutes.

The worst or second worst movie I've fully watched. My mouth was gaping for a good part of it. It (hopefully temporarily) degraded my mind; I was seriously wondering whether some terrorists had produced this movie.

There are movies you may say have "no depth." But this goes further, because it seemed as if they did almost everything they could to fantastically make situations as shallow as possible. I loved the book. But this...… Expand

I read the books and liked them but must admit that they borrowed many concept and ideas from different other sources like Earthsea, Dragonriders of Perm and you can easilyA weak but not that horrible movie except if you read the books. I read the books and liked them but must admit that they borrowed many concept and ideas from different other sources like Earthsea, Dragonriders of Perm and you can easily relate the characters to their original trilogy Star Wars counterparts;-). The movie however is pretty generic and uninspiring. When you use tropes and archetypes you should do it in a more entertaining way. For me the first few minutes destroyed all hopes. It lacks nearly everything that makes the books interesting and I hate being the “The books are better” guy. Here however it is a fitting description as even the critics said they sucked out the magic out of it. Another point is the acting is sometimes pretty wooden. The special effects and costumes are however really good. The CGI has redeeming qualities and I think it will age very well. The story is condensed and unimaginative. It is however not that bad as in the worst films of all times sense. It is below average and maybe rushed or handle without care. Overall I would skip this movie if you have read the books and even if you don't have read them. It is fast forgotten. If you like reading I would recommend the books except the last one which is an anthology of stories with nearly no content. It is viewed as cash grap and I think rightfully deserved it.… Expand

A mediocre adaptation of already tragically bad source material. The filmmakers basically had no chance at making anything decent out of this, and the finished film feels like they knew it.

Genious Book disastrous movie. Don't get me Wrong the movie in itself is not bad. But it's nothing like the book it depicts. Actually, it's not the same story. Important information is just ignored or deleted from the script ignoring future implications thus dulling the whole experience...
