The twisty story has a kink or two too many, a problem of whodunit plotting rather than of Bollywood excess. And the war comes across here as a kind of heightened backdrop rather than real crisis. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a sharp, tour de force if it werent for the unexpected gory violence that wasnt needed. The movie has a good story with spice to it, and Rajput is decent. But the buckets of blood, are not needed and slow down the movie.
