One of the series where I feel the sequel surpasses the original. Fun for adults and children. Good humor for all ages. The story line progresses doesn't regress like many sequels of today.

The comedy is outstanding, I went into a coma in 2013 after I had watched this movie as a result of my detonating, bombous laughter erupting my appendix. I awoke from my coma yesterday evening after 8 whole years of fantasising the 156 dates that Lucy Wilde and Felonious Gru went on before their inevitable, breath taking marriage. However - I must refrain from giving this movie a perfect score; As I discovered something from the film I watched last night with my colleagues in the emergency room upon my awakening. Ghostbusters: Answer The Call features a overlapping actress - Kristen Wiig. This is blasphemy against my incandescent Lucy Wilde as she is the voice actress for this exquisite queen. The fact that Kristen Wiig was involved in such a noxious, putrid and rancid hour and fifty-six minute experience is insulting to the law of God. 9/10 I am very disappointed in this sin.… Expand

I watched Despicable Me only to understand what was the deal with the Minion memes. Although I did understand what it was all about, I decided to take a look at the sequel also, since I found so many things to like in that movie, especiallyI watched Despicable Me only to understand what was the deal with the Minion memes. Although I did understand what it was all about, I decided to take a look at the sequel also, since I found so many things to like in that movie, especially the characters and the comic timing. And I'm really glad I decided to make that decision. Despicable Me 2 is, in every way, better than the first movie. Although I don't really like animated movies which don't hold much value other than giving the laughs, this movie is actually much better than most such movies.
The thing I really like about Despicable Me 2 is that it is able to expand over the story that the prequel did. Normally in animated movies that are just made for the laughs, the sequels don't work so hard to make the story. They just bring back the villain, and bring in more explosions. There are also characters who are suddenly pulled out of nowhere, which isn't something that happens over here. This movie knows it's just made for the laughs, yet it takes the effort of making it more complicated than it needs to be.
Dr Nefarious retires in this movie. I really liked him. He seemed to be something like a grandfather to all the Minions. I still remember the scene where the Minions are working and one of them wears a fruit dress and dances singing something like "Eto hola macarena kala kala macarena" (I don't know what it was, but it was so memorable). Then there's the scene where Gru is invited to the secret agency where the two Minions laugh at Bottom.
The thing I like about Despicable Me is how many characters there are to love. There's the Minions who are so adorable, there are the three daughters whom I feel like pulling cheeks of, there are the new characters in the form of the Mexican man and Gru's wife. They all have characteristics and emotions, and the movie takes time to explore over all of them. In live action movies this is easy since their runtime is higher, but in animated movies where the runtime is less than two hours, this is actually a pretty big deal.
Although Despicable Me 2 isn't exactly what I'd call a memorable movie, it is fun while it lasts; something it promises of being. It's not something that you're gonna carry in your memory for the rest of your life, but that's probably what makes it so much fun to rewatch. It's a definite recommendation for anyone who is looking forward to watching something fun for the weekend with children.… Expand

Si, los minions son super carismáticos y me encantaron al igual que la anterior! Pero siento que se podrían haber aprovechado mas y es lo único que realmente destaca de la película. Cuenta con muchísimas situaciones forzadas y huecos argumentales, por ejemplo, la relación entre Lucy Wilde y las 3 niñas es inexistente! Ya se quieren un montón al final de la película a pesar de haberse recién conocido, y no verse anteriores personajes como Perkins o Vector fue un desacierto. Y en cuanto al personaje "El Macho" y el Dr Nefario, sus intenciones son bastante genéricas, en realidad, la trama se siente bastante genérica y muy pocos momentos de la misma interesaron, siendo los únicos momentos interesantes como ya dije, las apariciones de los minions, el resto de situaciones humorísticas son cliché, o increíblemente absurdas sin tener ningún sentido. Tiene los mismos problemas que la anterior y por eso, creo que la han empeorado. La primera zafaba, pero esta llega a ser algo mediocre. No la puedo recomendar, ya que se siente como una secuela innecesaria que no aporta nada a la trama en general de la saga, pero para gustos colores.… Expand

This movie is the definition of lazy in almost every aspect: From the animation to the writing. The animation is awful and not because it looks bad or the character models are low-poly or blocky, but still manages to look cheap. The writing is awful with a boring predictable plot with boring characters and all the humor is reduced to "Minions doing things", oh yeah, the minions, they are loud, annoying, obnoxious and just made to make laugh the lowest common denominator, which is stupid kids or retarded adults.
The first movie was actually good, sure not great because there was still some dumb stuff, but at least had a creative concept with a decent execution, but this one doesn't have any creativity in any aspect.

Being a kids movie isn't an excuse to not care. Kids don't deserve to watch this level of stupidity. There are tons of animated movies aimed towards children that actually have depth and can actually teach kids some good things while at the same time being enjoyable for adults, but this movie isn't.

I can't believe this was nominated for an Oscar instead of a movie like Monsters University which was a far better animated movie.

I don't give this a 0/10 because it's at least watchable. A 0 is reserved for movies I seriously can't stand.… Expand

This film is the more than expected sequel to "Despicable Me", which is naturally motivated by its huge box office success. The script revolves around a theft of a chemical formula that turns the most harmless creatures into monsters. The script revolves around a theft of a chemical formula that turns the most harmless creatures into monsters. The central characters of the first film are back, but the entire script is a poor excuse to make a sequel and revolves around the Minions, clearly the stars of the film, almost obscuring the main character. It's worth watching this movie just because of them. It was a conscious bet of the production team, given the explosive popularity reached by these little yellow creatures similar to cheese snacks. It worked. He managed to make the film a success. But the quality of the movie lost with that.

The plot also plays with romance involving Gru or his eldest daughter. This is a more interesting and appealing subplot but its not enough to make the film truly interesting. This is an adventure movie, not a romantic story like "Lady and the Tramp", "Beauty and the Beast" or others. And the truth is that this film has a lot of funny, it's very romantic but it has little adventure and action, and the public that hoped for it later felt disappointed in their expectations.

This movie is not bad. But it's also not as great as the first movie was. The first movie was a good story, with good characters, an excellent comic vein and good animation. This movie had all of this except the good story, which should be the center of everything else. It's still funny, but that is not enough to make it a great movie.… Expand

Well, Illumination Entertainment gave us three years of rest from Gru, his daughters, and of course, the Minions, and decided to release "Despicable Me 2" in 2013. 3 years later, and the series remains as charming as ever: it's hilarious, it's beautifully-animated, it's pretty well-written, the characters are still as charming as ever, and there's plenty of fun Minion antics that, in all honesty, don't get old. Despicable Me 2 is a pretty good example of a sequel for an animated film. The movie is still as cute as the originals. The animation is great and watching Gru interact with the girls is priceless. One thing that certainly improved from the first one. The popularity of the Minions was a little unexpected so the second film had way more of them and oh my god are they ever funny in this movie. Its not hard to see why they ended up getting their own spin off movie. It doesn't matter how old you are you can still laugh your ass off at them. I understand that there will a third film in this franchise and I'll be ready.… Expand

Steve Carell as the criminal mastermind, Gru, returns in Despicable Me 2. He retires from the exciting life of super villainy to raise his three daughters in peace. A secret formula for a chemical that transforms ordinary animals or people into murderous purple monsters has been stolen and Gru, who has been recruited by an international organization that captures super villains, is on a mission to recover the formula and save the world.

I like Carell as Gru as far as it goes. I believe that he is genuinely trying to make children laugh. I didn’t like many of the jokes but I do support the noble intent. Just like the first one, I thought the three girls were adorable. There is a scene in the beginning during Agnes’s (the youngest daughter played by Elsie Fisher) birthday party. Gru tried to order a fairy princess actor to make an appearance but when the actor cancels, what is he to do? He dresses up in the costume and throws fairy dust everywhere. Agnes jumps with joy before turning the other attendee’s attention to cake. Before leaving, she leans over and says, “Pssst, I know it’s you, Gru. I just acted like that for the other kids.” How sweet! The interactions between Gru and the girls are happy, pleasant and sincere. I wasn’t a big fan of Gru’s new super spy partner Lucy (Wiig). I found her goofy and unnecessary. There was a romantic subplot between Lucy and Gru and between the eldest daughter and some ‘dreamy guy’ but it isn’t anything to write home about.

The jokes in Despicable Me 2, overall, were lame standard fare in terms of children’s movies: pelvic thrusts, fart jokes, getting hit in the groin, fat people jokes, etc. Now, why, for all that is good in the world, must we have silly dancing sequences? This movie has three! I’m just going to let this subject go because, I believe, I have addressed it in previous reviews, but it suffices to say that I find such scenes uncomfortable not amusing.

The majority of this movie is goofy and unnecessary so feel free to pass on Despicable Me 2. It doesn’t do the original justice. If I had kids, I wouldn’t take them to see this movie; it just goes to the lowest common denominator for a cheap, immature laugh. I’m giving it a half a point for its efforts at trying to be a pleasant movie and one point for the animation and the few funny jokes.… Expand

The first film was amazing. It had a great story arc and we watched Gru gradually grow and develop as a character.

Gru and his Minions are back. The super proud now dad of three, has left all his evil ways in the past and spends all his time taking care of his three adopted orphan girls.

Everything was going smoothly, Gru was happy and so were theGru and his Minions are back. The super proud now dad of three, has left all his evil ways in the past and spends all his time taking care of his three adopted orphan girls.

Everything was going smoothly, Gru was happy and so were the children, but, as seen in the original first movie, stealing the moon was not just a little feat, and certainly wouldn’t go unnoticed, and as seen here in Despicable Me 2, The Anti-Villain League have come knocking asking questions and looking for answers.

Gru (Voiced by Steve Carell) now spends all his time making different flavored jelly’s to sell, which telling by the reactions of his Minions, the taste wasn’t nice at all and even Dr Nefario was second guessing the changed Gru and his new found actions.

The sun is out and its party time with the BBQ well under way and all the kids happy Gru is questioned outside his home by Agent Lucy Wilde (Voiced by Kristen Wiig) this then lead to Gru being kidnapped only to have this Minions follow for the chase.

Anti-Villain Leagues Boss Silas Ramsbottom ordered Lucy to track down Gru because his actions of stealing the moon even though Gru did return it, it didn’t go unnoticed and because of this they ask for Gru to join forces and go under cover to help them.

Will Gru go back to his evil ways again? All in all this second outing is funnier then the 2010 smash hit in my eyes, its big, its funny, and it has a hint of purple too (which is always a good thing?).

We saw the original Despicable Me animated comedy in 3D and like wise the same goes with the sequel. Just like the first, the 3D is put to good use throughout the whole film and the color isn’t toned down like other movies that cash in for the added ‘Bonus’ of 3D. You will be laughing from start to finish like me and also fall in love with how cute and silly his Minions are yet again. The children in the packed Cineworld Cinema in Nottingham also found it funny as well as the parents making this the best family film of the year so far.

Go see it as you wont leave without laughing at least 100 times. stay for the end credits for a nice little added after credits scene, and like the first one there is some good use of 3D if you’re seeing it in 3D too.

This sequel is intelligent, and it's just as good as the first. Honestly, the minions are hilarious as hell. The film cannot even exist without them. The film covers more on family and romantic situations and it's just all good fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel "Despicable Me 2" was an unnecessary sequel. Does that mean I hate it? Of course not; it's still a good movie, just not one that can surpass the first, in my opinion. The slapstick is taken way higher, some jokes were great while others were hit-and-miss, and though the new characters were funny in their own right, none of them really got much character development, save for the villain El Macho. The two things I felt that just came out of nowhere were Margo's short-lived romance with Antonio and Dr. Nefario leaving Gru to do evil again. The former never lead to anything; they shared about two or so scenes together until Antonio left Margo. It just felt out of place and distracted from the main plot. The latter always confused me; I understand Nefario is the one who kidnapped all the Minions and brought them to one place where they could be controlled by El Macho, but why couldn't El Macho just do this himself? And it doesn't take much convincing for Nefario to regroup with Gru. At that point I questioned why he'd even left in the first place. In conclusion, while some parts were memorable and others just didn't work, I find myself saying again this was an unnecessary sequel. It's good, but not great. The first one can't be topped in my opinion, but if you want to just kick back and laugh at more Minion antics, then this is the flick for you.… Expand

I feel as if Despicable Me 2 is just not quite as charming or unique as the original. I think what made me like the original was the "bad guy" theme; it lacks the originality of its predecessor. I find the new character of Lucy Wilde somewhatI feel as if Despicable Me 2 is just not quite as charming or unique as the original. I think what made me like the original was the "bad guy" theme; it lacks the originality of its predecessor. I find the new character of Lucy Wilde somewhat annoying, and I was rolling my eyes at Margo falling for Antonio as well as Gru marrying Lucy. I also didn't find myself laughing as much as I did during the first film, the film just isn't that funny. The three girls also had a lot less screen time. The new villain El Macho doesn't make as much of an impact as"Vector". However, its still entertaining enough and will satisfy its younger viewers. The minions are still great, at least.

(P.S, "Despicable Me 3" and a spin-off film "Minions" are in the works!)

My wife and me (27 and 31 yrs old) have been to see this movie at the cinema yesterday (15.10.2013) but we both decided to leave at the intermission.. I don't complain about the animation itself which is enjoyable and well cared but the plot.. the jokes.. too boring. A few initial smiles then I hardly remeber to even heart the others laughing.. but silence rewarding characters' jokes. Disappointing. Could be nice for kids.. but if we compare to Scroods animation then that one I enjoyed very much so the problem is not the age likely… Expand

The sequel is good too, but it is one step below mainly because of the lack of pathos and general likeness: for instance, most of the characters aren't very developed (as in, no real backstory: just few mentions or words) and sometimes it can result in a bit of curiosity... not even Lucy (the partner) hasn't much to talk about her past, and she was an amazing side character! Alas, she is just there for the action...and that's not exactly a bad thing, and simply because this movie is just for the laughs and sillyness. In other words, it is not as good as the original, but it is a good movie nevertheless: it has good laughs, good puns (minions are still hilarious to watch and hard to hate); the 3 girls are likeable; the partner, as I mentioned, is amazingly fun; the action is good and the main character has some good resolution in the end and gets a great reward.

And as much as I liked the first one, this one fell a bit short of my expectations. And as much as I liked the first one, this one fell a bit short of my expectations. Some of the character development was stronger, but I had really hoped for a bit more. The comedy was strong, though at times a bit ambiguous and there was plenty of zaney antics fit for an animated movie. What was missing though was the core of what made the first film so great: a strong plot. While the first movie seems to be a story about a super villain struggling to maintain his status as a villain, it is in fact a story about a fish out of water. A villain who is learning to become a father, but still has to balance his villainy with that lifestyle. This second film is a continuation of the fatherhood aspect and now has less to draw upon as a result. It does well in maintaining a great atmosphere for children and adults alike and I would strongly recommend it for kids of all ages really.… Expand

It was hard to feel for any of the characters, and there were no moments that would make you emotional. The villain of this movie was not amazing either, and he was really pointless because he didn't actually do anything. In the first movie, there was an actual threat. People were getting hurt, there were genuine emotional and moral struggles, and Vector was seen clearly endangering innocent people by actually stealing the moon. In "Despicable Me 2", El Macho turned the minions into monsters, but it was really clear that the only reason it was done was for the amusement of the audience as the minions were "extra silly". The threat they posed wasn't clear, and it's hard to tell that they even truly posed a threat at all.
It is a cute movie, it just lacks depth. Children will love it as it is heavily focused on the crazy minions who are incredibly entertaining to watch.… Expand

If there is one thing Despicable Me 2 did well at was where a lot of sequels fail; the story is self-explanatory. Almost no prior knowledge is required to understand the plot and setting of this film as is proof by several of my friends whoIf there is one thing Despicable Me 2 did well at was where a lot of sequels fail; the story is self-explanatory. Almost no prior knowledge is required to understand the plot and setting of this film as is proof by several of my friends who had not seen the original and yet found Despicable Me 2 both accessible and wildly entertaining.

The characters were also far more diverse in this feature than in the original. Rather than just the main characters (Gru, Dr Nefario, the girls, random super-villain, and of course minions) like in the original, Despicable Me 2 featured a wide breadth of supporting roles that made for a more dynamic environment than the original. The film didn't seem quite as constricted or stale.

Despicable Me 2 also abounded with loads of wonderful slapstick humor. Some might call it toilet humor but Hey! Jokes don't have to be complex. And to be fair, there was a noticeable chunk of more subtle, long-running, and intelligent humor. The antics of the minions classifies as its own category of humor; they are definitely one of the main reasons to see to film.

While there was lots of humor to go round, a good deal of supporting characters, and modular plot, I did feel that Despicable Me 2 lacked the heartfelt nature that the original so wonderfully possessed.There was the "I must not cry! Dammit I'm crying" kind of the feel to the end of the original while Despicable Me 2's ending felt cliched. The plot as a whole was sort of emotionless in that sense because you could see it coming from miles away. And when I that, I mean that only in the long term sense of the story. The scenes in actuality jumped from place to place all the time which was frustrating more than it was suspenseful like it was meant to be. It was like they were trying to tell too many different stories with just one movie. And the buildup to the revelation of the supervillain; totally botched. Felt no suspense or surprise whatsoever. One of the worst I've seen yet.

Well besides some need for improvement in the emotions and the plot, Despicable Me 2 did one thing well for certain; it made me laugh till I was out of breath and my cheeks ached. A wonderful comedy if nothing else.… Expand

As time passes, I've liked it less and less until, frankly, I actively hate it now. Final analysis as to what turned me off: it's such a chick flick. It is a romantic comedy with minions. If you are into that genre, as most women are, you'll probably love Despicable Me 2. If you are an adult male, this one is poison you have to suffer through. Luckily the minions launch attacks against the estrogen assault periodically trying to break the monotony (and they do wind up stealing the pic). That is your only consolation.

The main plot and the majority of the subplots are anchored upon various femme fantasies. All characterization of each main character is rooted upon either their romantic or mother relationships, except for the villain. The villain is actually worse than a cardboard cutout villain. He's fat, hairy, underdeveloped, and notably unsexy and unsympathetic in any way. That last point is a huge surprise given the background of Gru and the whole premise of the first movie (sympathetic villainy). Boys are slammed as dangerous and irredeemable hearbreakers or worse, and sure enough the one boy character is last seen smugly breaking the heart of one of Gru's daughters.

The highlight of the film revolves around the shenanigans involving an awkward date in which the "true love" female saves the bungling male from a And of course, the villain is dispatched via what else but a lipstick weapon in an anti-climatic final confrontation that doesn't match the energy of the date scene. The ending is, what else, a giant wedding concluding when the girls declare they finally have a mother they can love.

This movie is good enough. The minions are hilarious, but I have to say I think writers abused of them as fun resource. I also agree with most of the reviews here, the story is a bit flat.

Never watched the first movie until the morning before going to watch this sequel, gotta say my diabetes count that day was off the chart.

The story is quite predictable, but remember that you are watching Despicable Me 2 for the humor, not the story. If you go in with that mindset, you'll not be disappointed. Trust me, you'll laugh, regardless of how old you are (I'm 19).

Ideally with an animated movie there is a basic fundamental story being told so your expectation is 1) Be Funny 2) Story should flow and not belabor the point 3) And give us a nice ending. So my puzzlement with reviews is what are we watching, Despicable Me 2 raised the bar with fun, excitement and sheer enjoyment. I laughed from beginning to end, the story flowed very well and the ending was amazing. With an animation thats all you need in some cases there are failed attempts with freshness, but this movie is fresh and I'd watch it again and again as I have done many other favorites. Yes reviews are someones opinion and point of view, but sometimes it just doesn't need to be so difficult.… Expand

While the original is still fantastic and I liked the villain a lot better in the first Despicable Me movie, I still enjoyed Despicable Me 2!!
It will be one those movies that I will add to the items that I wish to have on Christmas!!
I still really liked it and I would actually like to see the film again either in the theatre, on Blu-Ray as rental, or even after I receive this movie on Blu-Ray 3D as a Christmas gift on Christmas or even after I buy this film on Blu-Ray 3D after Christmas for post-Christmas Shopping!!
I would rate this film a 9.95/10 on a 10-star scale!! On a 5-star scale...I would rate this film a 4.95/5..on a Letter Grade Scale from A+ to an F...I would rate this film an A Grade!!!!… Expand

it did beat the first one! this is how you do a SEQUEL!

every scene is funny and lovely and i just cant stop laughing!

This movie is especially for kids, now in my case the first part was the best (Despicable Me).
Sometimes i feel pretty boring because bad jokes but wt hell, my wife enjoy like a little girl...

I took my family to see it and we all loved it; even my three year old sat still through the entire thing. The minions are hilarious and Gru is a more likable character this time around. definitely recommend this one to any fan of animation.

I read some reviews saying that this film is about minions funny and just that. But today I watched with my son and he laughed too. I only say two things, nothing very good, but nothing too bad either. A good movie, that's all.
