In Chopping Mall the conflict is merely an excuse for a repeat of the kids vs. slasher formula. Nothing heavy here, just the predictable deaths of the couples who went "all the way," the survival of the virgins, and the best exploding head sequence since Deadly Friend. [05 Nov 1986, p.D6]

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Film we can say slightly mediocre, certainly with a good inventiveness developed in a forced and slightly ridiculous way. Everything in the film seems dull and done without too much desire, moreover all the choices of the characters seem forced and lacking a minimum sense of logic. In the end, many die because of the filthy stupidity of their choices. Moreover, robots are not scary at all up to not even seeming a credible threat at some point.… Expand

80s horror sleaze at it's...finest? Chopping Mall isn't a good movie by any means, but it's an interesting one. The actors in this film do their best with the merely passable script, and the budget of the film clearly went into the robots which aren't that interesting in the first place. This is utter tat – an almost complete waste of a movie. The robot security guards that attack the kids look like a cross between the robot out of Short Circuit (1986) and a rubbish-bin. Their voice is quite funny. I might have fallen asleep watching this movie but it’s hard to tell, notThis is utter tat – an almost complete waste of a movie.
