With an exceptional Aline Kuppenheim, who drags you with her towards a permanent state of alert, the director and writer Manuela Martelli shows the opposite sides of life in Chile'1976' is an outstanding debut that keeps you on the edge of your seat with a simple but quite eloquent story. With an exceptional Aline Kuppenheim, who drags you with her towards a permanent state of alert, the director and writer Manuela Martelli shows the opposite sides of life in Chile during Pinochet's time: that of the dissidents, persecuted until death, and that of those who continued their life as if nothing was happening. Carmen, the protagonist, moves between both spaces, contrasting the bubble of ignorance and the harsh reality of the persecuted. As a thriller, with exquisite cinematography — essential for a film with few dialogues — and a haunting soundtrack based on synthesizers, the film embraces its Hitchockian influence to captivate with an atmosphere full of suspense. In the end, Martelli captures different feelings and moods of a time that must never return.… Expand

Apostando numa trama mais intimista, diferente do premiado longa "Argentina, 1982", que discutia de forma mais abrangente os efeitos de uma ditadura latino-americana, em geral apoiada pelos EUA, temos o retrato de uma mulher da classe média acuada pela iminência dos horrores provocados peloApostando numa trama mais intimista, diferente do premiado longa "Argentina, 1982", que discutia de forma mais abrangente os efeitos de uma ditadura latino-americana, em geral apoiada pelos EUA, temos o retrato de uma mulher da classe média acuada pela iminência dos horrores provocados pelo regime fascista de Pinochet.
O começo do filme dá o tom merecido e acertado à obra: em uma galeria refinada, a câmera se posiciona nas cores de tintas sendo misturadas e consegue transmitir o clima tenso das ruas, sem mostrar a cena em que alguém é pego contrariando as ordens do regime, um tiro se ouve, e apenas assistimos respingar tinta no sapato luxuoso de Carmen, interpretada magistralmente por Aline Kuppenheim.
Após o prólogo tenso mas não explícito, toda a trama irá girar pelo perigo subentendido. A protagonista então vai a um vilarejo e ajuda um padre a cuidar de um enfermo, vítima das atrocidades políticas. Ela passeia então pelos perigos que sua posição privilegiada de classe carrega, num círculo social totalmente à margem dos chamados "extremistas" de esquerda, opositores ao regime. O filme consegue passar a sensação de perigo iminente, qualquer deslize ela poderia ser pega, e não apenas sua integridade física está sendo posta à prova, mas sua condição de classe, até da família, sua honra.
Quando ela passa a agir como mensageira, tendo que se deslocar para levar informações do rapaz enfermo, que vai se recuperando aos poucos, o filme ganha várias tomadas externas, mas também cai em produção e acaba deslizando na edição.
Eu particularmente fiquei sem entender o propósito de alguns avisos, o roteiro parecia mais esquemático para fazê-la pôr em perigo do que propriamente convincente às suas idas e vindas, e numa dessas um conhecido, que se mantem discreto pode (ou não) ser o estopim para o desfecho sangrento de seu protegido.
Pois bem, o filme começa prometendo muito, e infelizmente não consegue sustentar a tensão, mesmo com um tempo de duração adequado. Como dito, a edição talvez tenha lhe prejudicado um pouco, mas aqui faltou mais um trabalho de roteiro mesmo para convencer o espectador da importância da protagonista sustentar o risco a que se submetera. Como o argumento enfraquece, o filme como um todo decai, até seu final sugestivo e, particularmente, convencional demais.
Mesmo sendo meio desequilibrado, o filme consegue ser um bom retrato de uma situação particular no meio do regime Pinochet, com várias tiradas e umas até mesmo enauseantes (o passeio de barco e o discurso fascista de uma das personagens, lembrando os velhos colegas apoiadores do bolsonarismo no caso brasileiro e entre outros regimes anti-democráticos mundo afora). É um teste para vermos como os discursos de extrema direita penetram lentamente na cultura popular e na cultura da classe média, bem como formas de resistência, que vão desde táticas de guerrilhas a paróquias provincianas, contando com gestos tímidos que indivíduos que vivenciam as contradições políticas inerentes a uma sociedade dividida.… Expand
