Les bonnes comédies américaines sont excessivement rares, alors quand on en attrape une, il ne faut point la laisser s'envoler... Très vaudevillesque en tout cas, cette adaptation (qui reste bien sûr un peu trop théâtrale par moments) a fort bien passé son voyage outre-atlantique : on est loin ici de la bêtise habituelle (de la majorité) des comédies américaines. Il est étonnant d'ailleurs qu'on n'en ait pas tiré notre propre adaptation, car elle vaut bien un Oscar...

Sur fond de quiproquos et de mensonges qui en appellent d'autres à l'insu de leur plein gré, la comédie tourne à plein régime et fourmille de bonne humeur et de rebondissements facétieux. Mais elle n'est pas seulement inventive, elle se repose aussi sur une distribution idéale avec l'improbable duo Walter Matthau / Ingrid Bergman ! un duo qui fait montre d'une subtilité aussi bienvenue qu'inattendue.

Signalons enfin le premier rôle à l'écran d'une ingénue et capricieuse Goldie Hawn qui apporte beaucoup à cette comédie finalement bon enfant mais merveilleusement divertissante.… Expand
